I live in the neighborhood for 30 years, eaten at Le Jardin about 3 times. It was alright, never great.
ON THURSDAY IT WAS PRETTY LOUSY, APPETIZER SMALL AND MEDIOCRE drowned in balsamic, WINE TOO EXPENSIVE FOR POUR QUALITY. SUPERMARKET BREAD, VEGETABLE GENERIC AND THE SAME FOR ALL THE DISHES, I.E. STEAMED COLIFLOWER, BROCOLI, AND CARROTS. THE WORST OF ALL, MY DINNER PARTNER GOT SICK AND THREW UP ON THE WAY HOME AND HAD HEADACHES. HE HAD MENTIONED TO THE WAIT STAFF THA THE SALMON TASED OFF, TWO YEARS OLD.
I will never go back and never recomment the place

Pros: great selection of wine

"If the weather is good, make sure you sit in le jardin at Le Jardin. It's got a great open atmosphere, and somehow they prevent the birds from doing what they do... on you. Maybe it's only fake bird noises. The wine, according to someone with more refined taste-buds than I, is somewhat overpriced. Except for that, it's 5 stars. Two of us had the cassoulet, and it was just cool enough for it. Slightly salty, but otherwise, WOW! The mussels were excellent as was the steak. The staff was so kind and tolerant, it's worth visiting just for them. I'll be back. --This is an EAT CLUB review (but we're registered as DRINK CLUB)"

Pros: waitstaff, cooks, maitre d' everyone

Cons: wine somewhat overpriced (?)

We had dinner there with friends and everything was delicious. We ordered about half the menu and everyone was happy with everything. The desserts were the only thing that were pretty average.

I the ambiance is nice for a group and you don't have to worry about being too loud.

I've been here twice, and twice have I had a great memorable experience. This place lives up to every hype you have read and can think of about it. The ambiance is excellent, the service is excellent, the food is excellent, what more is there to say about this place? If I HAD to complain and nit-pick about something, we had to wait 5 minutes for our table to be ready. There, something negative about Le Jardin Bistro.

My family goes here to celebrate special events. Menu is limited but everything, absolutely everything, is truly delicious. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting - dim lights, perfect for a couple too. Great neighborhood to walk around in afterwards. Get the creme brulee.

Something abot the word French Bistro that sort of turned me off to this joint at first. Note, I said at first. By the time I sat and tried some of the amazing dishes I couldn't stop telling people about it. The food is great and the atmosphere is sleek and heck even the service was spot on. I had some odd chicken dish that had me coming back for seconds (we have now been back on occasion). Try it, you know, you'll be sooooooooo happy!

This was my fifth visit to Le Jardin Bistro and i have to say that i love it. I have always found the service to be spot on and the food to be terrific. I have yet to come in the summer as i am never around, but this cozy little restaurant is a great go to place for the winter months where you can eat, relax, and be comfy cozy over a terrific bottle of wine.

Not what I expected. For years I have dined at Le Jardin, sometimes a few times a year, sometimes just once a year. But I always enjoyed the experience. It had always been fun and romantic. Not last night. We were seated outside under the grapevines. It was a little too warm, we were a little too close to the other tables. On my left the young couple began to quietly and intensely argue throughout the meal, when the young man was not on the cell phone shouting to his friends. The older man to my right decided that he too needed to get on his cell phone, insisting that his dining partner reluctantly talk into the phone. Not exactly romantic. The bread was not fresh enough. The butter was frozen. The table was too small and the servers made no attempt to help us organize the plates or take anything away so everything could fit. The food was decent, cooked nicely, the hangar steak and the salmon, but the portions were a little too small. When we were through eating, getting the attention of our waiter was nearly impossible. Needless to say, we did not want to stay for dessert and coffee. We finally got the waiter's attention by getting up and walking out of the garden into the restaurant, passing him by. Dining at Le Jardin was more like work than pleasure this time.

The food, the service, the atmosphere...wonderful. I will most certainly be going back and next time i am trying the stew...unless there is another special to lure me away :)

The back garden is charming, but the food lacks consistency. On previous visits I've had the salmon which was very good. But on a recent visit, most of the meal fell short. The endive salad that we started with was very nice, but the Coq Au Vin, while extremely tender, was too dry. The vegetables had almost no flavor. After a few halfhearted stabs at the chicken I pushed my plate aside and focused on the best part of the meal: the wine and the good warm bread. I sampled the chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms my friend had ordered, which sounded appealing on the menu, but was not very good - bland and also dry, the meat not very tender. The server that brought out the water and bread at the start was attentiive, but our waiter was not. For the price, the quality of food and service was not what it should have been. In colder months, seated in the small dining room with a smaller number of other patrons, the service was better.

Being a NYer, you know it is hard to find a great restaurant, even though there are a million out there! Le Jardin is one of those places you can always rely on! There is no drama with reservations or staff. The food is always great and the wine selection matches perfectly. I can't wait to go back soon for my Valentine's dinner!

I first starting going to this restaurant about ten years ago and would come back at least once a year to visit an old friend. Unfortunately, the success and it fashion has taken a toll for the worse. In my last visit, the fish soup was a weak broth that was not worthy of diner food. The mussels were overcooked and the portion much smaller than from years gone by. The fries that came with the omlet were soggy and the omelet was on par with a Greek diner-but much more expensive. As for the desert, the chocolate sauce tasted as if it were out of a Hershey bottle. the only part of the meal I liked was the martini, which was a very good one. While the inside decor is attractive, and the garden is nice space at night, if you ever go and spend time in the garden during the day,a and look at the furnishings and the canopy, the entire space looks as if it were assembled with parts left over from a junk yard. Chairs are beat, tables wobble, and canopy is rusting and held together with twsited wire. For what this place charges, the filth and lack of attention to the surroundings is unacceptable.

I've lived in NYC my whole life and have seen many restaurants come and go, I've been to great restaurants that are still around but are not quite the same anymore. Le Jardin Bistro is one of the few exceptions. It's a CLASSIC, period! Anyone who knows great French food, exceptional value, quality service and has an appreciation for one of the sexiest dining gardens in the city, should be a regular at this place. If you haven't been, then you're just depriving yourself, and if you have and don't feel the same, then you're either not from NY or you just don't have a clue!

Lovely NYC weather is back and there is no place better to enjoy it then Le Jardin! Weekend brunches and romantic dinners are perfect in the beautiful garden. I am a huge fan of the summer menu's cold Salmon and soft shell crabs. Be sure to make a res as the garden is always packed!

Out of many french restaurants in the city, Jardin is the bistro to go back to. It's unpretentious with a pleasant atmosphere. I find that most small bistros have very similar, plasticky food, but Jardin really sticks out with its delicious, well-priced dishes. I tried a few entrees and each one was served with different vegetables and potatoes. The portions are generous and I love the truffle and port sauce for the filet mignon. I can't think of anything better than a big bowl of mussels, great wine, a summer breeze, and a table in the garden.

I was sorely disappointed with the ambience, meal and service. Plastic tables and chairs from Target do not exactly fit my description of romantic outdoor seating.

I do not normally post reviews, good or bad, but after our evening at le Jardin I felt compelled to urge others not to make the same mistake I did.

I was there on a date. My date could not stop raving about the food, she was very impressed and so was I. We had a very nice waiter who helped us pick the wine and did not try and point us in the direction of the most expensive bottle in the house. We found the place to be very romantic and as close to perfect as a small bistro could possibly get. I cant wait to come back in the spring when the back garden opens.

Love this place. Great French food, and apparently, even the french think so! The Brunch menu is even as good as the dinner menu. The atomosphere inside is softly light, while the garden during the summer is unbeatable. And a great looking, professional staff! I'm always there!

This small, unpretentious room and garden serves meals that match its style, simple, casual, homey, delightful. The wait staff enjoy their work, and it shows. The bouillabaisse is the best I have had since a waterfront hole in the wall in Marseille 30 years ago. The Tournedos Rossini sauce is brilliant. The large cadre of regulars having fun add to the ambience. I just love this place

i cant believe that this is rated as a favorite citysearch
outdoor place.
i found it dingy [chipped plates, unlit candles, plastic chairs]

the steak frites were no great shakes. cold french fries
and fatty steak. our dinner took 1 1/2 hrs to arrive and the
staff was less then helpful [not enough silverware, forgot
repeated drink orders and 2 salads all together!] alhough
apologetic at the end it made for an unpleasant dinner.
would unreccommend this place to anyone.

The garden is very nice...and you can get lost in the atmosphere but the place is very loud...we sat on plastic chairs and the food was horrible.

We had the hanger steak and the duck - both were cooked poorly.

The appetizers are very good but not worth ever going back for.
