My husband went to Carriage Trade Pastries to get our son a SpongeBob cake, i left it to him because i was busy with other things. After he left Carriage Trade - I asked what kind of cake he ordered - he said he told Carriage Trade to "surprise him". i was not happy with that! BUT, when he opened the box and i saw that cake, my jaw dropped! it was the most beautiful cake i have ever seen - it was a Spongebob toy sitting on top of mounds of seaweed and coral. The coral was white chocolete sculptures sticking out the top of the cake and circling the rim - it was like a work of art! every thing was edible - i couldn't believe it. At the play center we were at, workers and people from other parties were coming to see our cake - everyone was in awe!

I just taste-tasted three upscale Buffalo bakeries for a lemon, golden sponge cake for my mom's 90th birthday. And the winner by a long shot was Carriage Trade. The cake itself was flavorful and obviously made from scratch, the lemon curd was delectable and sufficiently tart, again freshly made, and the buttercream frosting was dreamy. The other two bakeries either used a commercially prepared fillings that was way too sweet or overdid the whole cake by adding white chocolate, etc. , thus ruining the lemon flavor. While ordering the cake at Carriage Trade, I also bought their lunch special for the day -- potato leek soup and a cheese scone, plus some delicious looking cookies for my co-workers. This is a winner of a place. Definitely try it out!

The Carriage Trade Pastries shop is now located across from the Elmwood Fire Station near Great Arrow having moved from the Elmwood strip. While this discourages walk-ins, the parking lot makes for easier car access.
The desserts and pastries are still the same high quality and have the same excellent taste. Lovely cakes can be had for a reasonable price. This is still a very small operation, so any cakes ordered for a wedding require an appointment. This bakery will only make two wedding cakes per date, so you need to book well in advance.
