Very poor customer service. The sales person was very rude, impatient and condescending. He was frustrated when we asked simple questions and acted like we were wasting his time. I just took my money elsewhere. I can??t believe they can sustain a business with this level of pitiful service. I believe I deserve courteous and professional treatment from a salesperson when I??m spending so much money. Evidently not everyone agrees. If you are getting into cycling, spare yourself the indignity of being talked down to and don??t even step foot into that store.

Between my wife and I we have bought three Bikes from Handlebars, two of them fairly high end. We found the sales person Chris to forthright and brutally honest in his assessment of what is best for our needs. He is certainly not a "yes man", he will tell you what you need to hear, not what you wish to hear. That may not work for everyone (some of us kid ourselves that a three gram titanium bit on our bike will indeed make us invincible). However, I find it refreshing. We would buy another bike in a heartbeat from Handlebars over anyone else in town.

Bike fit / sizing was great too.

As far as mechanics, the bikes were delivered in acceptable condition. Follow-up adjustments were quick and professional. Otherwise I do my own repairs and maintenance.

My wife and I traveled all the way from Toronto to specifically visit a Specialized dealer. As Handlebars was the only one within reasonable driving distance we made the trek. We got there, spent an hour and dropped $700 on gear then left.
Only when I got home did I realize my Shoes were defective. Then the problems started. After nearly two months they returned them to me in reasonable repair (the problem still exists but I can deal with it).
Ultimately, they lied about receiving it, lied about what date they shipped it out and the proceeded to tell me that USPS was incorrect in telling me that a number was missing off the tracking number which Handlebars provided. 20 emails later, with no help on their end I (finally) received my shoes back.
I love the prices, but customer service will always reign king. I don't deal with people who lie, especially not merchants. Since it was winter time when I shipped them down, I obviously didn't need the shoes but if they would have been honest I probably wouldn't be writing this right now.
I will never shop here again, nor would I ever recommend them to anyone.
I just hope I don't need another warranty repair.

Initially, I was impressed by the size of the shop so I decided to take my bike there for a simple fixed gear conversion. However that was dashed by my experience within the store. I asked them to re-dish my rear wheel for conversion and he told me ??You don??t have to do that to convert to a fixie.? Which I corrected him on and he insisted until he looked at the bike and said that he would have to move the hub over to change the chain line and to do that he would have to re-dish the wheel. (I??m not an idiot, thank you very much.) First of all, they told me it was going to take 4 days to do a 1 hour job. Second of all, when I called the morning I was to pick it up it hadn't even been started yet. The guy on the phone assured me that "We will definitely call you when it's done." So 6 o'clock rolls around and I decide to give a call back. They tell me it is done (Thanks for that phone call I was DEFINITELY going to get.)
When I arrived I stood at the desk for maybe 5 minutes waiting for someone to talk to me and finally I was asked if I needed help by the same kid I dropped my bike off to just 4 days earlier. (Absolutely no recognition of who I was even though we chatted for a good 10-15 minutes.) They bring my bike out only for me to find that the cog I had (which THEY sold me) didn't fit. So they decided to take it upon themselves to switch cogs from my 17 tooth Surly cog to a 18 tooth generic cog without so much as a phone call to let me know they were thinking about doing so. I told them that their work was unsatisfactory and that I didn't want an 18 tooth which is why I bought a 17 tooth. Immediately I started getting attitude from the kid that worked on the bike and he told me "No, man I rode it. It rides good." (Which it doesn't but I'll get to that in a second) I told him again why I didn't want an 18 tooth cog before another kid asked me if I wanted them to switch it out. I said yes and he informed me that it would take a week to get a 17 tooth cog that will work on my bike. "Ok what now? Do I leave my bike here?" I asked he told me I could take it for the next week and he'd call me when the cog arrived. As I was walking out of the store I asked him if they put loc-tite on the cog and lock ring. He rebutted "That's all we use." Which didn't really even answer my question. I rode the bike today and guess what? The cog slips. I can't say I'm even a little surprised though, given my experience thus far.
The bottom line? If you don't know about fixed gear bikes, don't pretend you do! It's a fairly simple equation. This shop's actions have been very unprofessional and downright dangerous. That's OK; I'm not that fond of my front teeth anyway. And I??m not holding my breath for that phone call either.

When I bought my current bike I dealt with the owner of the shop. He was into customer service like no other place. He was very willing to spend the time with me to explain the new features of the current bikes and the advantages and disadvantages of each bike. The prices are competitive at this shop and they also offer one year of service for free. Great place to shop.

PROS: Knowledgable and service
CONS: small shop
