Bad client care all around
by Debra D.
Everyone was very nice yet my cat saw a different vet every time we went for the same problem, each vet misdiagnosed my cat's problem, eventually one gave her the wrong treatment that almost killed her. After attempting to correct the problem they sent me to the emergency vet because they were short staffed. I ended up having to pay for the incorrect treatment, correction of the treatment at Hope, and the continuous correction of the treatment at the emergency vet place. When I expressed my concerns in writing they took 4 months to respond by saying I am wrong and I need to pay them for their mistake. There are better vets around that care about their clients.

Nightmare Nurse
by Athena77
I have been a client of Hope Vet for a few years. My experiences have always been favorable from the front desk to the nurses to the doctors. Then, I had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting one of the meanest, rudest nurses who had the aptitude of a flea. My story begins when the nurse came out and introduced herself. She said, "Hi," and her name. It began with a J- Julie, Judy, Jilli, Jaime, something along those lines. My four year old daughter, who doesn't know any better, then replied, "That's a girl's name. You're a boy!!" She did dress, look, and act like a boy. I immediately apologized to this nurse for my daughter's confusion. She then proceeded to take my daughter and I to an exam room. While in there, she demoralized and degraded me on the upbringing of my child. My daughter then began to cry. She has been having ongoing nightmares ever since that fateful day. At first, I was going to change vets. But, since Hope is an exemplary veterinary hospital, I decided against it. Instead, I decided to request that this nurse never deal with my child or I again. To my amazement, I come to find out that she no longer works there.
Pros: The Boogey Man Gone!!
Cons: That not only petowners, but their pets,as well,

?! holistic what?
by mbrown10
I just came in as a new client the other day with my puppy, I will never go back. The receptionist is over weight and incredibly uneducated, saying things very LOUD and inproper english, horrible first impression and is the one next to her her daughter? looks, acts, and has even a worse attitude from her mom, shouldn't she have a time out?. Then I wait in the lobby for 30 minutes, then my animals name is finally called, and another large man approaches me who seemed as though he could care less about my puppy, and he seriosly had the worse body odor. Shouldn't health care professionals not only be in good shape, but bathe as well? He refused to take my dog's tempurature, because he was a pitbull and 'pitbulls may bite', not for nothing but holistic what? THEN it took 3 different nurses to find my puppy vaccine history, and then 2.5 hours later, I finally got to see the doctor, who muzzled my dog yelled at a nurse to 'get a damm light in here', to then tell me NOTHING I didn't already know, and refused to give more than one vaccine.
so:
overweight, rude, uneducated receptionists
dirty, rude nurses
imcompetant doctor
over priced.
Cons: all of it.

I really wanted to like them, but I'm not going back.
by catsnboots
Sure, they are nice in person, and seem competent enough, but they are more assembly-line factory than thoughtful holistic vet practice.
When my old cat was dying, I called them to try to schedule home euthanasia, which they had assured me they did. Never got a call back until after she was dead.
Now, with new cats, I called the vet who saw them weeks ago with some questions about new problems. Left voicemail. Never got a call back, even though the rude front desk people assured me she was in and would check her voicemail. They must have too many clients, or an unclear practice policy regarding communicating with clients. Or maybe they don't call back so you will be forced to bring your pets back in and spend another $400. It's unfortunate, given that they have a human social worker on staff -- you would think they would be more sensitive and responsive.
In contrast to a lot of reviewers on here, I don't mind too much having to wait at a vet if I get appropriate care in the room, and I don't mind paying a relatively large amount for good care -- but Hope charges enough that follow-up should be an integral part of the experience. It isn't. Sometimes this really is the difference between life and death.
I'll be finding a new vet.
And why did this review disappear off yelp?
Pros: probably some good doctors
Cons: don't return calls. sometimes it really is important.

what is everyone's expectation of a vet??
by koxo
I really don't know what all of the complaints are about.
I have been taking my dogs here for the past 4 years. Of all of the vets in my bklyn neighborhood this is the furthest distance from where I live and I would not go anywhere else. Dr. Young, Dr. Ryan, Dr. Lischin and Tom (his last name escapes but he did my babies teeth) are all talented, compassionate amazing people. Prior to Hope Vet, I had experiences with decent vets that have no human skills. Everyone here is great. Every now and then I have experienced a technician who was a little self-important, but whatcha gonna do. Not everyone can be perfect. Their prices have gone up and since I am a worrier and bringing the dogs a lot, it has become a little difficult. But I will look into pet insurance before going any place else. Love.
Pros: Great vets, great staff, clean facility
Cons: Expensive

Uneven service, terrible Front Desk help
by tddy
Some of the vets here are great, certainly the best in Brooklyn. Some of the vets are inexperienced but more troubling, they have TERRIBLE bedside manners (Dr Sarter comes to mind). The front desk staff are unhelpful and RUDE.
Pros: the Medical Director and Eliza and A+ quality
Cons: inexperienced, poor bedside manner of some vets; unhelpful and rude front-desk staff

really like this place
by carollkitty
I went to hope yesterday and really loved this place. Super-clean and everyone there was really nice. Our appt was five minutes late, which I thought was pretty good for a crowded weekend day. We saw dr young and she was wonderful with my cat and with me too. The cost for the exam/vaccine was the same as the vet I saw in nj.

Terrible Vet. Just wrong.
by GummyJoe
Weird how this place has so many 1 star ratings but it's overall rating is still 4.5. This place is definitely not a 4.5 star vet. They offer terrible, rude and overpriced services. Trying to get them to call you back is like trying to get scarlett johansson to return your call, it's not going to happen. I wont give you the long sordid story. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
Pros: none
Cons: rude, unprofessional overpriced service.

This place is awful
by yelpers
Avoid this place if you have any choice. Like the last reviews, this place is unprofessional, disorganized and overpriced. My cat received terrible treatment. It's pretty much the same thing as what other people have said. My cat required surgery, had terrible follow up, was very sick afterwards, charged more money to fix and I ended up having to go to another vet. I can't believe these people are in business. Don't go here, for your pet's sake.
Pros: none
Cons: overpriced, unprofessional, poor treatment

CARELESS, NEGLIGENT
by Schatziq
I had a couple of good experiences with this place initially for routine checkups and shots. But when my cat had an upper respiratory infection, the vet- Dr. Voulgaris, gave him some prescriptions for the infection and then told me she wanted to do an operation to clear out any urine crystals he may have that she thought may be blocking him on another issue. She said the cat would need to be in the hospital for no less than 3 days after this procedure. So I went ahead with it. I was horrified when she called me the day of the operation, after it had been performed, to come and take home my vet because she didn't want his upper respiratory infection infecting the other cats there!! She knew he had this before but just wanted to cash in on the operation and kick my cat out. I had to pick up my cat with only a couple of hours notice. I picked up my cat and he almost died over the next couple of days. I had to go to the Emergency Veterinary Group on Warren Street for the next 3 nights and finally by the weekend, they had to keep him for 2 days and 2 nights to save his life. It took 6 medications to revive him. They told me at the Emergency Veterinary Group that this vet should never have released him and that is she wanted him out of there she should have called them directly to arrange for a transfer. It cost me over $1500 in additional care from the Emergency Group and I almost lost my cat for something that should never have been life threatening. I also paid Hope Vet for the procedure for them to release him. Then I received additional bill for $450 in the mail for after surgery care which I refused to pay. But they did try to collect aggressively for a full year and a half but dropped it when I reminded them what they did to my cat.. They are lucky I did not file a complaint with the Veterinary Board. This is the first review I've ever written but I feel a moral obligation to warn others about this place to protect their own pets.
Pros: Convenient location, they work with the rescue group Infinite Hope
Cons: negligent post surgical care, more focused on cashing in on procedures they shouldn't be doing

Avoid if you can
by wowzawowza
This place is pretty bad. I have never been motivated to leave a bad review for somewhere before, but this place made me register. I got my cat spayed there about 1.5 years ago. They actually had to do 2 surgeries on her costing in the realm of $700! Just to be spayed! The second surgery was to fix the first one, and judging from other reviews, this is not uncommon there. Now my cat is in heat again because apparently after two surgeries costing over $700 they did not get all the uterine tissue. Unbelievable. I probably could have done a better job with a plastic knife and fork.
Oh, and the receptionists are snobby as hell. I can't believe an owner would let people like them represent their business.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER go here.

by NoHopeForThisVet
This place is terrible.
Long delays. I waited over and hour past my appointment time.
Very pricey. I think they charge way too much.
Rude office staff. Anyone that has ever called knows what I am talking about.
Improper instructions. I was not given the proper instructions after my cat was discharged from being spayed.
Avoid this place if you can.
Pros: I never have to go here again.
Cons: This place exists

The Doctors are Talented, the office is Not..
by ampercindy
I was a client for years, I had an aging pet, since deceased, who needed care, and the doctors were caring, warm, affectionate, and thorough.
But after I was seen by a doctor, I seemed to fall into a black hole. For one particular test, they neglected to call be back on a biopsy that turned out to be cancerous. I called, and was told the results were in but that a doctor had to give them to me several days in a row. Finally I got results after getting furious with the front desk.
I really loved the vets, and wanted to give them a second chance after that. I trusted the vets. So..
I brought another pet there, who was having GI problems, once again, test results fell into a black hole. This started a chain reaction and I was at Hope or on the phone with them for 4 months for one thing or another. I finally lost it after lost test results caused her to require a new set of shots and after the prescription food incident.
She was put on Hills Science ID (normal). They neglected to tell me that she needed 2 weeks to transition off this food. I saved 2-3 days worth which is the normal amount of time for a food switch. In order to do the switch I was told I needed food additive powder. When I came in to pick the powder up I found out that I was supposed to transition over that much longer time frame . I asked if they had more ID available. They did not. And they could not tell me where to get any. A kind tech sent me to VERG who sold me enough to get me through the week so that I could run to a store VERG sent me to to get the food.
At that point I requested her medical records, and switched vets. I was given an incomplete medical record with incorrect shot information on it. That I had to request a correction on. And found a new vet.
When she developed a UTI and the new vet ran some tests, and when they called back as promised with results DH and I nearly fell over. She was fine in 10 days. The bill was half what it would have been at Hope.
Pros: Talented Doctors
Cons: Disorganized office, Potential over-treatment

Great Vets and Nurses
by smrtipadme
Ok so after reading the last reviews, i can't believe I went to the same office as these people. I tried Hope Vet because one it is AAHA accredited (and the vet I loved back home suggested I find one) and they offer a holistic approach to treatment (and not just pumping my baby full of medications). There was a wait, but even when I go to my doctor I have to wait. People need to calm down a little bit. And when i went in to see the doctor she took her time with me and my pet. If I had questions, she answered them and gave me handouts to take home. I had some tests done and I got a call from the doctor going over what everything meant, and what options I had for treatment. The front staff seemed nice to me. I don't know maybe the other people were there on a bad day or something. I will continue to have my baby cared for at Hope.
Pros: well informed and trained vets and nurses, clean clinic, great bedside manners from everyone
Cons: great holistic care doesn't come cheap

extremely disappointing
by lrioux
I didn't want to believe all of the negative reviews on this site because I heard such great things about Hope from my friends. My new puppy started not feeling well and the day I called they gave me an appointment for mid-afternoon. I get to the office with the sick puppy when they tell me that the appt. was actually a half hour prior. (I had even called again an hour before the appt. to check whether the puppy should eat or not before I brought him in and they confirmed the time). I then have to wait for two hours in the office....another hour later, I am able to leave. I am told that I would be called the following day with test results. The end of the day comes and no calls. I call them to be told that they would call me back. No call back so I call again and they keep me on hold for 30 minutes. A few days later the problem comes back and I leave two messages and send an email to our vet to finally get a call back at the end of the week. I go in to pick up more medication. It is four days later and my puppy is still sick. I called again to be told my vet will not be in until the end of the week and another vet will TRY to call me back. I called Cobble Hill Animal Clinic and they took me right away and I was in and out of there in 45 minutes
The vets at Hope seem very good but they are way too busy and should not take any new clients. Its too bad because I really liked them but I can not deal with the disorganization. There are not enough hours in the day. I should have paid attention to the comments on this site in the first place and would have avoided much frustration.
Pros: the vets are great once you get to see them
Cons: office staff disorganized, long waits, have to call multiple times to get return calls

disorganized, long waits
by DouglasHH
The front office is chaotic. I'm not quite sure what the issue is there but, they have some exceptional competition now... An hour and a half wait AFTER my appointment time just to get in, gets some vaccinations for my dog and get out, that is just too much. And they have the nerve to call me and ask me why I switched vets??? Now that is just reaching... You want some suggestions? Hire more organized people for your front office. Don't rush your clients once you have them in a room. And for god sake, drop the automated phone answering cr@p and just put a competent human on the phone...
Pros: Great line up of vets
Cons: too bad you'll be stuck on hold and never be able to make an appointment...and if by some miracle, you are able to make an appointment, you won't be seen on time.

Killer kitten bests Hope vet.
by samandjoeshow
Apparently our 9 month, 8 pound kitten was more than this animal hospital could handle. I brought in a kitten we had adopted to be spayed and have shots. This was not a particularly easy kitten to handle. Lots of squirming and hissing, as some kittens will do in a vet office, but she was far from unmanageable. However, even with the vet and her tech assistant double teaming our kitten they could not hold her down long enough to give her a physical yet alone any shots. I was baffled. I have have had other difficult cats in my life and have never encountered a vet who could not handle a cat. This is inexcusable no matter how fussy a cat may be. But the clincher is that instead of apologizing for waisting my time she charged me $60 for a visit where she did nothing.
Pros: Nice staff
Cons: Incompetent vet

Excellent Care, Great Nursing Staff, But.....
by tylerd65
Hope was recommended to me by a friend and fellow pet owner that I trust. I was comfortable with bringing my cat here just on my friend's recommendation alone because she tends to be a woman that is long on due diligence and difficult to impress. My experience in the office was great. The level of care here is excellent and there is an impressive team of DvMs with a wide array of experience. The front office staff and nurses are wonderful. It is most frustrating, however, in calling to make appointments or following up as you are often put "On Hold" for extended periods (2+ minutes). Perhaps an extra hand in the office would be helpful for answering phones/scheduling appointments? Barring that, a good overall experience.
Pros: Impressive DVM staff, Nurses are knowledgeable
Cons: Calling back numerous times and being put on hold for too long

Dr. Voulgaris and Hope Veterinary Staff Great
by freefallnyc
I was left frantically looking for a vet in Brooklyn when my mother-in-law's poodle suffered a fall while staying with us in Carroll Gardens. HOPE was one of quite a few Vets in the area and I chose HOPE based on the reviews I saw here. Needless to say, I was not disappointed with the facility, the service or the professionalism we experienced during our visit. Everyone from the front desk, the nursing staff and DVM met us with a smile which certainly means a lot for an out of town pet owner. There was plenty of attention to detail during the uptake as well as attention/compassion for our beloved 13lb. patient pup, Champagne throughout! Dr. Voulgaris was fantastic in making us (all 3 of us) feel welcomed and making the patient feel comfortable with her, as well. Not being a pet owner myself, I was impressed with Dr. Voulgaris' "petside manor" and her comforting words for my worrying mother-in-law whose poodle is certainly the love of her life and constant companion. I also noted that there was no rush to medicate, x-ray or perform an array of tests since the Dr.'s initial physical exam showed what appeared to be a more sore than broken Champagne. I appreciated her explanation of the diagnosis process, her logic for not medicating at the onset and what we should be looking for should Champagne's condition change or turn for the worse. I'm sure many criteria are considered when choosing a vet, but among them should certainly be top notch facilities and a top notch staff. We can certainly give a big "thumbs up" for our initial experience here and an even bigger recommendation for Dr. Voulgaris. We will continue to bring our furry family members if needed while visiting and be sure to make HOPE our first choice should we add a pet of our own in Carroll Gardens.
Pros: Friendly Staff - Clean Facilities - Attention to Detail
Cons: none

Nice front staff, Great Vets
by julest
I've been using Hope Vet for 2+ years. I agree with other reviews that the wait times are a bit long. But the Vets are always thorough and take the time in the room to listen to all the animal's symptoms and ask questions. Test results are promptly reported and my animals have responded beautifully to all suggested treatments. I've always found the reception staff to be pleasant.
Pros: caring, professional Drs
Cons: sometimes long waits

Money Grubbers
by babsdouble0
I think it's all about the money here. Seems like there is absolutely no management. Cramming people into appointments, causing waits of up to 2 hours. A big joke in the neighborhood.
Staff seems to be trying hard and are usually nice (except for someone named Crisley (sp?) who answers the phone "May you please hold?" (what the hell?). Totally weird and unprofessional.
Strange, desperate vibe in there though some good vets if you ever get in to see them. Whole place is sort of fake earnest-ness. I switched and only go in an emergency because it is close.
Good cat and dog food.
Pros: good cat food
Cons: poorly run establishment

Excellent Vet Experience
by sussler
I got my cats as adults and they came having just been to their old vet so I had never needed a vet in the neighborhood before. Actually Cobble Hill Vet was my first choice based on more positive reviews here but they were closed on the day I called. Hope was my second choice sight unseen but was a close second.
I called on Thursday and they were able to accomodate us on the following Sunday.
We waited about 20 minutes. I found the desk staff to be efficient and somewhat cold but certainly nothing bordering on the rudeness other reviewers have complained about. They did not return a call I placed on Friday to find out if it was okay if the cats ate before their appointment or not. I called back later and got a person who answered the question.
I found the tech and the vet to be knowledgeable and friendly. They were quite good with the cats and the cats responded better than I thought they would. The examinations and the history they took were complete and thorough. The vet offered an inexpensive solution to a small problem one of them is having and suggested we come back or call if it didn't work.
The fees were reasonable IMO.
I'm glad I went there, will go back as necessary and whole heartedly recommend them
Pros: Spotlessly Clean, Reasonable Wait, Warm and caring tech & vet., open 7 days.
Cons: Front Desk staff could have been friendlier, could have returned my call.

Not a lot to recommend this place. Pretty Bad all around.
by catlover555
The front desk service here is generally rude.
They are awful at keeping appointments. I had to twice wait over an hour past my appointment to be seen.
They are overpriced and the job they do really doesn't warrant the price. I took my cat in to be spayed and they really messed her up to the point where I had to spend twice as much as the original spay just to get her back to healthy. It felt like every time I brought her in there she came out worse.
If you do, for some reason take your animal in there, make sure you tackle a tech and get them to tell you EVERYTHING you are supposed to do. They twice "forgot" to tell us what we should do and both times it lead to complications that of course were our "fault."
Really, if you have any option, avoid this place.
Pros: clean office
Cons: rude, pricey, hack jobs

Not hopeful
by citygirl1988
This vet place is not good. It's overpriced with condescending staff and rude front desk. The vets are average. The place is clean, but thats about it . My main beef is that they botched up my cat's surgery and blamed it on me. She was spayed, but by half-week, she was swelling. The collar was on through out. They scrambled for different excuses, all to place blame on me. It's rather disgusting and unprofessional.
Pros: clean
Cons: rude staff, bad vet techs, average vets, overpriced, incompetent

Good doctor, disorganized office
by subpixel
Good doctor, disorganized office. Try getting a call back about a sick animal the same day. Really, I'd rather they employed a full-time receptionist in India than rely on staff that can't get the job done. (That's not a joke, it's a suggestion.)
We actually adopted our cat from Hope, and the crazy thing is, she wasn't the cat we first chose. I signed adoption papers for a particular cat and when I came back the next day he was gone, adopted by another party. I didn't freak out, I came back a few weeks later and found another cat to adopt, but talk about disorganized!

by xcxre8
been going here for years. the negative reviews are isolated incidents from crazy pet people. yeah it bites you had to wait once. it bites your dog at 15 had a ton of health problems and the doctors weren't 100% sure about the diagnosis... that's why they ordered a battery of tests. have you ever been to a human doctor for a real health problem? you can't complain about them not knowing what's wrong, ordering a bunch of tests, and how much it costs. welcome to the real world. this place is great.

I have elderly pets who are starting to have more problems, so I'm in need of an attentive, responsive vet. Hope is not this.
Hope seems to try to handle more volume than they are capable of, so their service is severely lacking. The vets themselves are kind and decent with my pets and they give good and attentive service...when they're seeing my pets, but that is about the only good thing I can say about the place. As soon as my pets are done with the vet, everything else...the place's 'infrastructure' seems to fall apart.
Their follow up...to be frank...sucks. They do not return phone calls (even when things are urgent), they don't place medicine refill orders when asked, they are inconsistent, they seem to be unneccesarily 'test happy'. They ran the wrong tests and made me bring back my elderly cat to retest (which they wanted to charge me for but I pushed the issue and was not going to pay for their error). They have not given my sick and elderly dog the proper attention and care he needs now that he's beginning to decline. They also have no problem laying guilt trips onto their clients for the food I choose to feed my pets, to my lack of 'natural food' diet, to my concern over the cost of all these tests (not everyone has endless walletts). The receptionists are unorganized and often rude.
For a place that claims to be about 'caring' for pets, they display a disturbing lack of attention and care. I do not recommend this place. I chose them based on reviews on this site when I'd first moved to town, and I'm now going to take my pets elsewhere.

Two sides to every story-follow up on Bella
by lbierbrier
I am a Veterinarian and I work with Dr. Young at Hope Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Young is an excellent doctor and a very caring, compassionate person. She took excellent care of Bella and provided Bella's owners with a supportive environment through Bella's many illnesses. That her owners have now turned their grief into an attack on Dr. Young is simply wrong. I felt sick reading their account as it is a very warped, mean spirited version of what happened to Bella.
I knew Bella too and extend my sincere sympathies to her family.
But, please do remember that there are two sides to every story.
Sincerely,

Great Vet Experience
by zoho
We saw Dr. Debra Voulgaris at the last minute, and she was great. She recommended waiting out an expensive alternative in favor of seeing how my dog would recover on a simple antibiotic and time. As others have posted before, the vet took her time examining my dog, and everyone that handled her was kind and gentle, and the office staff was courteous and helpful. Rather than stressing my dog out even more than a vet visit already does, they made no move to put her on an examining table, and everyone involved came down to her level instead. The little things make an enormous difference. Great vet experience, and reasonable prices.

Best Veterinary Care I Have Ever Experienced
by s_shopper
I have never experienced more pleasant staff at any vet clinic. The receptionists were very helpful and did their best to squeeze me in even though I called last minute and was late for my appointment. I am suprised by the previous reviews listed because I had a wonderful experience. Even though the wait can be longer on the weekends, I find that the staff spends just as much time with me as the last person so the wait is definitely worth it. My own doctor spends about 5 minutes with me so I was pleased when my veterinarian took 40 minutes to examine and discuss my pet's health.
This clinic was less expensive than the clinic where I took my dog in Kansas. I was pleased to be offerred natural alternatives in addition to traditional medicine. They have never tried to push ANY products on me and are very considerate about giving cost estimates and considered my financial concerns when I expressed them.
The nurses were very helpful and knowledgable and VERY GENTLE. They match the warm atmosphere that Hope Vet Clinic has-natural lighting (no sterile fluorescent lights). My cat tends to get kind of cranky when he goes to the vet and the nurse gently wrapped him in a towel and covered his face to calm him. She never scruffed him or made him upset. Many of the treatments/vaccines were done in front of me which made me feel much more comfortable. The nurses even drew bloodwork in the exam room while I was there with my dog.
They even went so far as to find a rare medication I needed compounded into a flavored liquid for my cat so it was easier for me to give (since he is really hard to trick into giving pills). The staff at Hope vet obviously do their job because they genuinely care. This is the most important thing to me when choosing a vet clinic. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone-rich or poor!
Pros: Excellent Care, Caring Staff, Reasonable Cost
Cons: none

Reception at any medical office
by cathappy
Some people must not understand what it is to do reception at any veterinary or medical office. If you have been in this office on a Saturday, you'll notice its slightly busy. As a result, the receptionists are busy. They are doing a million things at once, including attempting to get you the information you request. If it doesn't happen right away, this is because the doctors have specific schedules, the technicians have specific schedules, and the receptionists are doing their best to coordinate that with what you are demanding. When it comes to offices I have dealt with in the past, this office runs smoothly and efficiently. I have always been happy with my care and treatment. I chaulk up any seeming disrespect or lack of care to the nature of the job (which I have done in the past) and I think they handle themselves well.

by mrwstokes
We recently got an adult dog and I was refered to this lovely clinic by out neighbors who have a maltese, whom our dog has recently befriended. Our visit to this clinc was a lengthy saturday afternoon, we waited in the crowded waiting room for 45 minutes after our appointment time. And when I proceeded to ask the counter persons when we would be seen, she peered at me from behind her glasses and replied "Well, you were late....so it might be a while!" Shocked I proceeded to sit down till we were greeted by a lovely gentleman that helped us with Sadie and greeted us with a smile.the doctor was very nice and helpfule , but the parking was terrible here also.
Pros: nice doctars
Cons: parking bad, bad secretarys

by kybklyn
all of the reviews re the staff are right on target. I wonder if the vets actually know what's happening at the front desk. Dr. Lischen (sp?) and Dr. Young are great once you get to see them. if you have to follow up with any calls...good luck with the staff.

Condescending Staff
by houseowax
I recently called with a valid concern and whomever answered the phone treated me like a hysterical child. My experience with the doctor there has been great and it's a great facility, but I expect to be treated with respect- I'm an educated dog owner and don't call the vet crying every time my dog sneezes, so why the condescending attitude? Major turn-off.

MY FAVORITE VET BACK IN BROOKLYN!!
by petluv
I couldn't have been more excited when I learned that my favorite Vet moved back to Brooklyn. Dr. Eliza Lischin has come back to join the already wonderful staff at Hope vet. She is the sweetest and most personable vet I have ever known. Her compassion, understanding and insightfullness has never failed to make me and all my little critters feel right at home. The rest of the crew at Hope is professional and great as well.I would say they are the best in Brooklyn..or anywhere for that matter!
Pros: great vets, best care, compassionate
Cons: crowded, busy, poor parking

the best team in the worst moment
by petunia444
I recommend Hope Vet clinic and Dr. Kristine Young with all my heart. Last night, my best cat buddy had to be euthanized. I can't have imagined a better group of people to help bring Inky to his final rest. Dr. Young had been his vet for several years, and her empathy and presence were strong support in a terrible moment. Juliet Sternberg, social worker/co-owner, was a comforting presence, with just the right blend of compassion and professionalism. Along with one of their great techs, Susie, we gave Inky a cozy, warm, painless farewell. My deepest thanks, and sincerest endorsement, to all at Hope Vet.

I wish they treated people too...
by doghousenyc
I'm always amazed at their creative solutions to difficult challenges. They are caring, smart, innovative and thorough. I have used many vets and these guys are the best as far as I'm concerned. From good science to common sense remedy to alternative medicine they are a triple threat.
While I understand another poster's comments about the front desk, I see it differently. This is a new practice which has grown quickly, and for good reason. Yes, I have occasionally had to wait to see the doctor, but this is no more than normal "growing pains". It indicates that development hasn't come at the patient's expense: With the doctor, I NEVER feel rushed. They take time and care to focus on their primary goal: exceptional care. As far as Im concerned, that is how I want it. Nobody has ever treated me with anything but kindness and compassion, let alone rudeness.
Pros: smart, compassionat, creative, convenient, LOTS of services
Cons: none

Great Vet - Unfriendly Front Desk
by mh004g
Love the vets and techs, but the front staff keeps you uninformed and they are rather unfriendly. It's a pain if you need information outside of regular visits b/c you have to go through the front desk. If you can deal with them, the vets are great.
Pros: Caring Vets & Techs, They don't overtreat
Cons: Rude front desk staff

skid the dog says

I love going to the vet to see christine. She is great!! But my favorite person there is Dr. Lori Bierbrier. She has been my vet for many years. The entire staff there is the most caring and kind staff we have ever met. They really do care. Also a special mention to the vet techs. who always hold my paws when they take my temperature, blood, etc. Would I recommend Hope Vet. Me and my 3 kitty sisters and brother give them 4 paws up.
Pros: caring, attentive, intelligent
