Thank you very much for your support over the last 26 years, especially during 2010 when my illness forced me to work only half time. I am now back to full time (as of May 10, 2011) and the surgeon says that complete recovery will take one year (November 2011). The support of customers and friends helped me maintain a positive mental state which has helped me recover faster than expected. It is gratifying to know that if one sells a product that people love and service at a fair price, the people will keep coming back and will be willing to wait. Even if they could get it somewhere faster. It is my hope that I can lead a normal life despite having major surgery. I hope to be an example for all people with ostomy to show that life can go on as before. The lessons learned from this process are valuable in that one learns to be grateful in a more real sense.
This business began around 1970 on Culver Road. Original owner Ted Gunkler sold it to me in November 1985. I have maintained the original goals; transportation alternatives, touring and local discovery. I sell all kinds of bikes, rather than specialize. I try not to be like those stores that make ordinary people feel uncomfortable. With bikes for kids as well as adults, recumbents and standard bikes, my one person business will try to cover all the bases.

The owner is helpful and honest. He doesn't rely on clever sales tactics. He doesn't push you to buy things you don't need. If you ask for advice, you'll get a knowledgeable recommendation, not one based on greed. It's a great shop for power-bikers who want to race until they drop, or for people who want to coast around town with a basket of groceries on the handlebar.

He is a one man show at Freewheelers. He makes maps for customers and helps people out with whatever they need. He did an excellent job on my tune ups and was very knowledgeable and helpful about the questions I had. I recommend this shop if you want a 'small town' feel of a local shop.

This bike store does nice tune-ups for your bike. The guy there is very friendly, and will spend the time to tell you what needs to be done to get your bike working well. His prices are good, and he gave us a year's worth of tuning up when we had the bike fixed up there.
