Have eaten here dozens of times and always felt we were getting a good value for our dollar. But at our most recent visit, the food was terrible. We had a tasteless vegetable soup. (The salad was its usual great self.) And our pasta dishes were so dripping with oil, it was amazing we did not have a gall bladder attack on the spot. I could put up with the deficiencies of this place before - but if the food is going to be so poor, we will not patronize any more.

Pros: usually decent food at a good price

Cons: food just didn't do it at our last visit

I had dinner tonight with friend of mine at this place. Overfull, very unkind women at the cash register (assuming manager) kicked us out of the restaurant because its 10:30 and they are closing! Our bottle of wine was half full, but she didn't really care. She just wanted to be out of there. Not first time that I'm shocked from this place how unkind people (usually manager/host at the door) are (never waiters, they are OK). So, as a local who live next door in SoHo, I would not recommend this place and I will not came back. Don't even think about bringing friend or something, unless u wanna be embarrassed. Food is mediocre anyway...

I recently ate here this past weekend and realized that I should have listened to the reviews before stepping into the restaurant. First off we had a party of 4 and was not seated because only 3 out of the were in attendance. I told the hostess that my son was parking the car. To our dismay the hostess said sorry and seated another party ahead of us. When we finally got seated we were only given 3 menus. They said they ran out. I must say the food was subpar and I actually exp. The no wine after your meal ordeal. The food is subpar yet the service and owner run this place to the ground. It is like a military food camp. Get you in and out just as fast. I will not recommend this place to anyone

I love Italian food, but this is the worst place to eat, even if the food is half descent.!! The Owner who is nasty, rude, only to chosen customers as I observed, can ruin your appetite and dinner experience all at once. I had inquired about my order being wrongly served and she apologized without any real sincerity and move on without a care in the world. I gather, because she has already established a client base, she didn't really care for other new customers, is how I felt about her attitude.

Please spend your money elsewhere, this place is not worth your time and precious night out.

Pros: never going back

Cons: Rude & Nasty Owner & Service

The food is sub-par and the manager is DISGUSTING, RUDE, SARCASTIC and CONDESCENDING. They have no sense of customer satisfaction and should be AVOIDED at all cost.

She refused to seat us when there were THREE empty tables in the restaurant because "only 5 out of 6 people were there."

When the waiter brought us the wrong dish, the manager responded by saying "pasta is pasta they all taste the same." Who would have expected such a response from a restaurant that supposedly serves decent Italian food. Not only did they fail to apologize, they did not let us order another dish and only after continued complaints did she respond in a completely sarcastic tone saying "don't worry I already removed it from your check." For the rest of our meal she continued making snide remarks and blatantly mocked and laughed at us for complaining about our food.

No New Yorker or tourist in their right mind would eat here. There are PLENTY of similarly priced and better tasting alternatives that will treat you with RESPECT.

Pros: None.

Cons: Extremely rude. Will not correct mistakes.

not only have i never experienced such a dismissive and disgusting attitude from a hostess in all my years of frequently eating out in new york city but i have never had a restaurant experience that was so insulting that i felt the need to post about it either.
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS RESTAURANT.
they have NO interest in their customers. they are entirely rude and pushy. you are not allowed a second glass of wine. they state to their clientele almost immediately that you should be out in 30 minutes or less. they will not seat you without all parties there even when the entire restaurant is empty (literally).
they made my father (a sixty something year old italian man) and i feel unwanted and the hostess laughed AT us when we said it was upsetting and that we really just wanted to enjoy an authentic and relaxed italian meal there.
I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN AND ENCOURAGE ALL CITYSEARCH READERS TO DO THE SAME.

I'm really bothered that i've been forced to write this review. I've gone to this restaurant consistently for the past 8 years and have always raved about their service. The food is excellent, really inexpensive and the variety of pasta is a major plus. However, after having dinner there yesterday (which was a Friday) I will never give them my business again. My party of 3 ordered 2 appetizers, 3 entrees and a bottle of wine. After finishing our bottle of wine, we asked the waiter for the wine menu to order another. He comes back to the table 5 minutes later and says he can't serve us another bottle because they need to free up the table. I grabbed the owner/manager and asked her why we weren't being served another bottle. She proceeds to give us a long rundown about how "it's bad for their business to let people sit a table and drink when they need to keep tables open. That a $6 glass of wine isn't worth it for them because there dinner menu is too inexpensive. They can't afford to lose other business. If it were a Tuesday not a Friday it would be different and on and on"... Gasp!... I could not believe what I was hearing, in a restaurant, from the manager. I'm also more confused because we were about to order another "bottle" (not a glass) which would have likely turned into another bottle, plus dessert. Who's to say the next customer may have only ordered 2 entrees only and no alcohol???... Sorry, my rant is so long... ugh!... Still fuming! This is not an acceptable way to treat a customer and totally ridiculous... Time to look for a new neighborhood Italian spot!

Pros: excellent inexpensive Italian food

Cons: bad service

The food is fine and affordable, but when I asked for another glass of wine they refused to serve me. Mind you I wasn't intoxicated, I only had one glass of wine. But they have this "policy" when they serve you dessert they will no longer serve you wine. Their reason is because they don't want people to take time sitting drinking wine when they have people waiting for tables outside. Well I feel that is ludicrous because if you had ordered a bottle of wine you would be sitting there drinking it regardless of the course. I told the maitre d her argument was invalid and she refused to accept she was wrong.

I wont be going back again after years of going there. I would advise to find another Italian style restaurant as there are plenty others around serving the same food, for the same price.

The prices are very reasonable because they don't spend much on flavor. How is a fried chicken breast with salad greens on top a "special"? I was there for a birthday dinner and tried many of the pastas on the menu and many tasted the same. The ambiance is a step above a diner and they take great pride in their 16 year policy of not seating incomplete groups, even when they're empty on a Wednesday night - AND, no joke, if someone joins a seated party, they won't let them eat. What kind of policy is that?! Too bad they care more about their policies than the customers or the food. I won't return.
p.s. Like all review sites, be wary of any great reviews as most are written by the businesses themselves.

Pros: Location

Cons: Food, service, decor.

This is a cute little restaurant that serves up satisfying fresh pasta and yummy pizza. I always end up ordering the squid ink linguine with shrimp, prosciutto and peas in a tomato cream sauce - SO GOOD! Also recommend the four cheese pizza. The service could be better but I'll keep coming just for the food.

I lived around the corner from Il Corrallo for 15 years or so, and have eaten here many times (maybe 20?). I never had any problems with the staff, although this is definitely the sort of place where you eat, pay the bill, and leave. (Cheap places like this need to turn over the tables to make a profit, so I could see the staff getting huffy if a table wanted to linger and chat.) This place is a solid option for a quick, inexpensive pasta meal. The pasta is really quite good.

Watch your credit card statements, they added in extra money (extra tip?) After I already left a %30 tip. I had to go to my bank. I wondered how many times they had done this before. I was a great customer

Stay away from this place, I can?t believe how they treat people there. The food has either no taste, or it?s just pure salt and it?s served cold. Me and my friends ordered so much food, and we wanted a bottle of wine with it. They gave us a bad wine, literally it went bad so we politely refused to drink it but the waiter told us we should give it some time to get some air and then it would be fine (?). After 20 minutes the wine was of course still bad and not safe to drink so we asked if we could order some other beverages and they refused to take our order for beverages! The manager came out to us and yelled at us that if we order something we should stick with our order and not pretend like we know so much about wine, and if we don?t like the service and wine so much then why the hell did we come here in the first place and that we should have gone somewhere else! Our jaws dropped, we haven?t even complained much about the wine, we simply asked the waiter for more other drinks since the wine seemed to have gone bad. And she just came out to yell at us out of the blue, making a scene in front of other customers! That place is insane!

I totally agree with some people here. The 5-star reviews of this restaurant must have been written by the owner because there is no possible way anyone could genuinely like that place. All of the people who I know and have been there had an awful experience! The waiters are beyond rude, the hostess is completely crazy. They will tell you how much and what you can order and what not. They will refuse to give you beverages during meal saying you should be finishing your food faster!! Don't even deal with the hostess, she will defend her staff and yell at you that you should eat faster ang go!!! They will ruin your meal and you will leave angry or sad. Moreover, the food is not that good, it was ok... lacked any flavor really. And the restaurant, epsecially the back of it is very dirty. I don't think it's even safe to eat there. I just cannot believe this place is still in existence. They must be able to run it still only because of the location that delivers them constact tourist clients. Because any New Yorker in the right mind would not go there twice!!

I have been to this restaurant three times before (by coincidence each time really because the food isn?t anywhere near great to make me go back a few times to eat there). Each time I was there, the hostess/manager seemed to have an argument with some guests, and they would end up leaving very angry. Finally it was my time to learn the truth about this place. I arrived a bit late one night and my friends were already sitting down and their food was just arriving to the table. When I asked for the menu right then it was refused to me since the place ?does not serve late parties?. The waiter just walked away. My friends then decided to order something more for themselves so I could nibble on it as well, and the menu this time was refused to them as well, the waiter saying angrily that they cannot order because they would end up giving the food to me (pointing his fingers at me), and that if I want to eat I can be seated at another table because they won?t serve late parties. Mind you, the restaurant was half empty so it wasn?t as if they were worried about us staying there late and keeping the table busy with me ordering late. This time we asked for the manager, the server said angrily that she will come out. She did not. We asked again, again we were told the manager would come out but she never did. At the end the desert was refused to us as well and we finally got up and went to the manager, who with a smile on her face said that the there is a sign saying the restaurant does not serve late parties and if we didn?t like that, then perhaps we should have gone someplace else. And she walked away. We could not believe our ears. I have never been that disrespected in any restaurant in NYC or in the world. Please don?t ever take your friends there, the staff is incredibly rude and you?ll be ashamed having brought your friends there!

I don't know how this place stays in business! The food is so good and so cheap. Where else can you get seafood pasta for $13.95? A friend lives nearby and I was looking for restaurants in the area, and after reading the reviews, we thought it might be entertaining to see how rude this hostess was. She was so nice, smiling and pleasant, and she was the one who brought our bottle of wine over and opened it for us. Maybe it's a different hostess? Definitely check it out, and get a pasta with cream sauce, the pastas with garlic & oil were good, but not as flavorful.

Very rude hostess! Would not recommend in any way to go there! The woman thinks she is the queen and can do anything she likes. We were witness when she kicked out one person from the restaurant because customer asked to see menu again (?????????). Then refused to bring us coffee, with words "you are staying long enough - time to leave" (??????). We spend $120 for dinner and we are staying "long enough"? Is she crazy? I see from reviews that people have similar experience, why this restaurant still open? NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL!!! CRAZY SERVICE, GOOD FOOD, BUT NOT WORTH TO GO, YOU WON'T ENJOY IT !

i have to agree. the hostess is incredibly rude and at my last visit there my friends and i were asked to leave the table way before we were done..i had never seen or heard anything like that before. needless to say, we stayed until we were good and ready to leave and i've never been back since, nor will i ever go back. this city has such great restaurants with such great service that i would never recommend this place to anyone, unless of course they get new management bc the food was good.

Most horrible service ever! The manager (or owner, or hostess) may come to you and ask you to leave the table any time WITH NO REASON! I think all 5-star reviews here she wrote by her self! Horrible service, some weird fees, terrible hostess - no way I will be coming around this place again!
JUST DON'T GO THERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO RUIN YOUR DAY!!

I went to have a dinner with my friends who just arrived from Europe and she came late to table - they refuse to service her and for her question the hostess said - NO SERVICE FOR LATE BODIES (????) . And mexican (probably illegal immigrant) said that "this table is closed, no more service for you" - at 8pm ??? Then she took different table and asked for menu again. No service still. same time she gave menu to new-walked people and throw her things on the floor from her sit just to sit these people !!!! And restaurant was half empty!! So rude hosted, very surprised that people still goes there. Big bowls of pasta? Give me a break - you can find dozen good restaruants just next block from this witch. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE AND RUDE SERVICE AND HOSTESS!! I WOULD VOTE TO CLOSE THIS RESTAURANT!!

My friend and I had lunch at Il Corallo and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found it through menupages.
The lunch special for $8.95 is a true find. The service was acceptable to us, not over the top. This is the kind of place you go to get a delicious meal at a great price for NYC-not for top of the line service. I would return.

The lunch special for $8.95 is a true find. The service was acceptable to us, not over the top. This is the kind of place you go to get a delicious meal at a great price for NYC-not for top of the line service. I would return.

Pros: great food and value

Cons: tight space

GO DOWN TO MACDOUGAL TO LA FOCCACERIA FOR SOME TRUE ITALIAN & UNREAL SERVICE.
Where can I begin.I love discovering great new places and am quite loyal when finding something worth my money & time & all I can say about this nightmare of a place is to Avoid and go elsewhere.
*The temperature was scorching and these cheapos had only the fans running.
*IT TOOK THEM OVER 25 MINUTES TO COME ASK FOR OUT DRINK ORDER.HALF OF THE OTHER CUSTOMERS WERE GIVING EACH OTHER "CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS LOOKS"
*Food is beyond oily, greasy and tasteless with has the flavor of a dominos.I would rather eat at & Little Caesers
*Saw 2 seperate servers pick their nose and lick their fingers right after serving people their food and im sure they did not wash their hands.
*The Owner looks like she got lucky on a leave and has no business owning a restuarant as she floats around counting the money in the drawer over and over and over and over again while completely ignoring the is happening in her restaurant.
*We had our 2 bottles of wine (FOUR 4 PEOPLE) one of our party tried to order one more beer after we had eaten and they actually had the nerve to tell us "They do not serve liquor unless you order dessert or unless you are eating"
I had the owner come over & explained to her one ONLY ONE PERSON WANTS 1 BEER Before we leave.
This trash had the audacity to tell us they do not serve drinks so people can "hang out" and not eat..lol
Meanwhile we had just finished our food 1 minute ago literally..lol
If we wanted to be treated like children we would have gone to eat at our mothers which would have more likely had better food.Thankfully the food was so terrible I have no regrets in neer returning.

Go to Foccaceria or Franks on 2nd ave. This place can Screw themselves. You would think Batali was in the kitchen the way they treat people.

First off let me say this place does not take reservations, and they are extremly rude and want to set you down so fast. If you have a large group this is not the place for you and your group. What I am not happy about is the bald headed older guy that works their his attitude is the worst. Now my co-workers and I found seats in the back and their was a table with two seats that he refused to let us have(BTW their was plenty of 2 seat table left). Their was only 10 of us, so after giving up on that table we were just telling everyone to just sit anywhere then he yells and tells us to get out and talk outside. This is the second time since we got their he told us to leave, btw none of us are being rude at all, the first time they told us to leave and wait outside was because our whole party was not they (btw they were entering the restaurant when he said this). As we get fed up with his attitude we simply leave and he curses at us. Again we never rude it was just a bunch of co-workers wanting to take a fellow co-worker out to lunch for her last day.

So from this I will never eat their again. Its not a place for a large group.

Five Stars: Highly Recommended

There may be a good number of quality places like Il Corallo in Rome, but I seriously doubt whether any of them are as favorably priced. The $8.95 lunch special with its dozen or so choices is unbeatable. But don't just stick to that. No matter what you order from the menu, it's hard to spend very much money.

What's good at Il Corallo? The simple answer to that question is "EVERYTHING." The large menu ranges from the wide variety of pasta dishes to suit all tastes (among my favorites are the spaghetti with clam sauce, farfalle del mare, rigatoni rustici, fettucine maremonte, taglierini pesaro and the list goes on and on...), to the score of different pizzas (thin crust and crisp to perfection), to the daily entree specials of fish, meat or chicken, which are large enough to feed two persons.

For wine drinkers, there is a pleasing selection of reds and whites. Or try a glass of the excellent homemade iced tea.

Those who leave room for dessert will not be disappointed (try the tiramusu). And please don't go without trying a cup of their marvelous cappuccino or espresso.

So, my advice is to run, not walk, down to Soho for a superb dining experience. Once you try it, I guarantee that you won't be able to stay away.

Pros: Great Pasta Dishes and Thin Crust Pizza, Friendly Atmosphere and Pleasant Service

Cons: The only drawback is that the food is so good that you will probably want to eat too much.

This place came highly recommended by someone who grew up in the neighborhood. After we walked through a pouring rain to find it, we were offered a table in the entrance with the door open and underneath the whirling ceiling fans. A draft was not what we wanted on our wet bodies. We asked how long a wait for a table inside, the arrogant hostess said "at least 45 minutes and you could wait outside", mind you it was pouring rain. We were tired and hungry so we took the offered table. The hostess/whatever, was arrogant, snootly, unfriendly, absolutely unaccomodating. Food - middle of the road, service, OK. WILL NOT BE BACK. Don't recommend, they don't deserve your money.

If you like to be treated as though a restaurant is doing you a favor by letting you eat there than this is the place for you. This is by far the worst service in the city. I have had the displeasure of dining here twice, and on both occasions the service was sub par. In a neighborhood where there are delicious restaurants on every corner this is just totally unacceptable. The food is okay and the location is great but this in no way makes up for the rude attitude. From the moment I walked in the hostess/ manager was rude and gave us a problem about seating our large party of 8 although they had plenty of open tables and do not take reservations. They have rules posted all over the place. There was ham in my dish, when I explained that I am vegetarian they simply said it shouldn?t have ham but made no apologies or effort to replace the dish. My list of complaints can go on and on but the point is don't bother eating here.

If a ticket to the streets of Italy are out of your budget, transport yourself for under $20 bucks with this amazing little jewel. It's tiny but perfect for a small party who wants inexpensive but delicious food. For self-important whiners who need to park their baby-strollers -- stay home or hire a babysitter. This is an intimate spot with appreciative repeat customers served by no-nonsense but friendly staff. Expect to wait ... a wait well worth it. I've taken people from all over the country and hands-down everybody loved it.

Pros: Perfect pasta with a choice suitable for everyone.

Cons: Small! Can be loud & hot but get with the spirit of things and enjoy.

Though we were seated right away, the overall atmosphere was rather hot and stuffy. Our waiter came quickly and offered the specials. The bread was served promptly, but it was stale and we had to ask for olive oil that tasted as if it had been cut with something rather tasteless and cheap. I ordered one of the specials, a breaded chicken cutlet covered with cold salad (not the way it was described). I took one bite and not only was it also quite bland, it was overcooked and rubbery. We called the hostess (see other reviews on this woman...no lie, she's akin to Morgana, black leather skirt and all) and asked her to replace the dish. She told us that she would bring something else, but that she would charge us for both. So, instead, I asked for some red sauce to at least make it pasable and she said they had to make it up fresh (right, at an Italian place) and that she'd charge us for that as well. She went on to defend the dish saying it had been a special for 15 years (tasting like it was made 15 years ago imho) and that people love it. She was not open to the fact that it hadn't been well made. I will never go back because of her. In my opinion, there are plenty of really great Italian places in this city and much friendlier accomodating wait staff and hostesses.

If you're looking for a decent, relatively inexpensive bowl of pasta, and you're willing to accept whatever you get and unconditionally abide by "the rules" of the establishment, then you'll probably have an ok meal here. But if, god forbid, you, the paying customer, should have any problem whatsoever with the food or the service (which may be more likely than not) then be prepared for a level of rudeness, arrogance, and pettiness that will leave you muttering to yourself. It is quite clear that the woman who operates, and presumably owns, this place, simply does not care, and she will communicate that to you in no uncertain terms should you have the temerity to express the slightest dissatisfaction with your dining experience. The fact that this place is consistently busy is simply a testament to the draw of a cheap meal in an otherwise expensive neighborhood. Avoid it on principle. They don't deserve the business.

Despite what past writers have said about the supposed health risks at this place, I have been eating here for over six years and have never been affected by this so-called "smell." In fact, this is one of the best "secrets" in SoHo. It's not really a secret because everyone goes there. People say the hostess is rude, but I'd say she's more like a machine. She has very strict rules and she sticks by them. The main rule is that you cannot sit down until your whole party arrives. Big deal. They do this because a)the place is tiny and b) it keeps the traffic moving. The menu is extensive and inexpensive, and the bottles of wine are never more than $25-30. My only complaint is that they've had the same "specials" for two years now. C'mon, just put the specials on the menu and create new dishes!

Tonight we were eating at the restaurant when someone from the staff opened the back exit door. A strong and iritating air filled the restaurant, causing half of the restaurant's patrons to cough uncontrollably while others yelled "what is that?!". Several tables immediately got up and left. After we were able to control our coughing episode, we approached the hostess to inquire about what was the cause of this. She answered that she did not know but suspected it was due to the cleaning solution that was coming from the courtyard behind the restaurant (and into the restaurant through the door that was open). When we asked the hostess to close the door, she refused. She then told us it was not her fault and refused to accept any responsibility for this, despite the discomfort all her customers were experiencing. She refused to engage in any conversation and told us if we were unhappy with our dining experience we should not return as she did not need us as customers. She then resorted to insulting us. In reading other people's comments on this board, we find it outrageous that despite all the complaints about the hostess, she is still employed there - maybe she is the owner? The bigger problem, though, is the HEATH RISK that we feel people will face when eating here. Apparently, from speaking to other people that have eaten here, as well as restaurant staff, this is a common occurence. PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS HEALTH RISK. We have notified the Department of Health about this and they will investigate. We STRONGLY advise people NOT to eat here until the cause of this toxin in the air from the backyard - which, again, permeates through the restaurant (and in the food, etc) -- is resolved. Hopefully, in the interim, they will also fire the very rude hostess.

Love this place! My husband and I have been going to Il Corallo for years and love it every time. The food is always fresh and I have never had a dish I didn't like. The prices are great and the portions very generous. They have a very large menu and a few of our favorites are: Crostini Pomodoro, Ravioli Porcini, Fettuccine Molisane and the Tiramisu!!

It is a small space, so seating is tight, but its definitely worth it for the food and the price. I always feel like I've traveled to Italy for an hour and am dining in Nonna's kitchen. Some other reviewers complained about the hostess/manager, but we have always had a pleasant experience with her. After our 2nd time there, she knew our names and greets us by name each time we go. How often do you get that in Manhattan?!! A couple of times we have arrived without our complete party and she told us we would have to wait to be seated, but understandably so. The restaurant is always busy, and if you've ever worked in the food industry you know how frustrating it can be for a party to take up an open table while waiting for friends to arrive.

We have recently moved to Chicago, and have yet to find an Italian restaurant that compares with Il Corallo. Dinner at Il Corallo is a part of our every visit back to New York and we recommend it to anyone looking for great Italian in the city.

I have been to this place several times and would say the foods good and price is right. However, the service and attitude are lousy. The hostess is a total witch. We ordered couple bottles of wine and chill for a bit. The hostess came to our table and told us to leave. She sarcastically said the place is a restaurant and not a bar or cafe.

this place has totally delicious food, good wine, all at totally reasonable prices--but i would NEVER send anyone else here unless i knew the hostess would be off that night (fyi, i've been here a number of times and she has, unfortunately, always been there).
on an empty tuesday night, she made my mother and i stand by the bathroom (or, she offered, outside in the freezing cold) while we waited for the third in our party to arrive. (and no, they do not take reservations).
this woman has some serious social malfunction; she is nasty, petty, and totally disagreeable, but she is the only major negative if you're looking for good, inexpensive food downtown.

From the minute we walk through the door, we were accosted by a hostess that refused to seat us in the empty restauraunt (we had a part of 5 with one person running late). When we told her we wanted to order food, and get a glass a wine, she told us there were many bars and we should do that.... NICE... Finally, we asked for a table away from the drafty door, but we were seated right next to the door. The food was ok, but then the bill came. Our great hostess blindly added tip to our bill--- She said it was policy for parties over 5... I asked.. she conceded it wasn't written anywhere. She removed the gratuity, We left... As we were leaving, she had the nerve to make snide comments that tourists should make resevations or go elsewhere... Worst Hostess Ever!

This is one of the worst places I have ever been to. I usually do not bother to write reviews, but the management (particularly one woman) at this restaurant was so nasty that it is worth my time to post a negative review. There are so many good, affordable italian restaurants in the city that you should not waste your time with this one - it's not worth it.

Once upon a time, I would have recommended this "amazing Italian" Soho restaurant to anyone and everyone. I live just around the corner and have tasted most of the dishes on this impressively copious menu. However, I recently invited my brother and sister-in-law to join me. When we brought to the attention of the manager that one of our meals was unsatisfactory, she engaged in the most intolerable, obnoxious behavior I have ever encountered from a restaurateur. Now, I would not even send my most hated enemy to encounter the wrath of its miserably-rude manager. I was a frequent customer, but now I will never return.

A friend recommended this place because of the pasta which wasnt all that bad. However, our experience was the worst restaurant experience ever. First of all, two of us ordered different salads with different dressings. We asked for a side of dressing but the waiter told us that all the salads just had oil and vinegar so we should just use the oil and vinegar that was on the table. We got our meals and my wife was supposed to have a white wine saucejust oil of course. When we told the waiter, he said he will have them put some more on. When we told the manager, she became completely defensive and started yelling at us. She was the rudest most irrational person ever, and outright mean. We got up and left and will never go back to this place again. I strongly recommend that you never go there.

This place was a great find for dinner. The list of pastas seems to run forever, and I considered just letting the waiter recommend a dish. The waiters, although very friendly, did not seem overly familair with the specific dishes beyond what I could read on the menu. Never mind, the my rigatoni with lamb, mushrooms, finocchio, and herbs was al dente and finger-licking good. This may be the best pasta I've had outside of Italy. The place is absurdly cheap for the neighborhood. Most of the complaints here have to do with service, and it is plausible that there would be some bad experiences as it is the kind of place that gets cramped and crowded quickly. I'd advise coming in off-peak hours. My new favorite Manhattan Italian. (PS there is also a very affordable wine list)

Pros: Delicious pasta, Cheap, Affordable wines

Cons: Close seating

What prices! Most pasta dishes less than 10 bucks--and they are very large portions. Salads (about $7.00), equally very large. Pizzas (about ($8.00)--good thin crust baked in a wood-burning oven. Ingredients for all are well-above standard.

At these prices, turn-over and maximizing seating is essential; which must be why some reviewers complain about not being seated when they arrive with missing members of their party.

Pros: Inexpensive, Big portions, Nice neighborhood

The menu is incredibly long. There are so many pasta dishes to choose from. I highly recommend the fettuccine pescatore...it's excellent. The wait staff is very helpful and friendly. The restaurant has a very casual atmosphere. It's very small and brightly lit inside, so it's not the most romantic place in the world. Still, the food is super yummy.

I am not a huge fan of Italian food but I love this restaurant! I discovered this through a co-worker and now I take all my out of town friends when they come. The menu is huge, so many choices, the prices are extremely reasonable and the food is consistently good. Not to mention, their desserts - especially the hazelnut tartufo - is to die for! I highly recommend this restaurant.

I've been going to this place for years. The owner and staff are extremely friendly. The negative comments about the staff are unwarrented. They have their seating guidelines, I assume because of the small size and high volume. Patrons must respect a restrauants policies. I have never had a rude word spoken to me from anyone there. I always take my out of town visitors there as well as business clients for lunch. Great food, great atmosphere, great people.

I used to love Il Corallo just because it reminded me so much of Italy itself. I fell in love with the food so much so that I could taste it last week as I rushed up Prince Street to meet friends. One friend was stuck in traffic and the staff, one lady in particular, was incredibly rude not wanting to seat us.
After realizing that our friend was stuck deep in traffic we asked for a glass of wine while we waited and were told,"No! There's a bar across the street"
We took ourselves not only out across the street but never to return to that Il serviced-establishment!

We arrived and asked to be seated, explaining that a fifth person would be joining us shortly. The hostess refused us the available table, saying that we'd have to wait. I am disabled, and showed her my leg brace. "No problem" she said and pointed me to two chairs in a tiny hallway in the back. When I sat down there I discovered that I was directly across from the open men's room door. A friend opened the door next to me to give us a little fresh air and the hostess came and slammed it shut. Our fifth friend arrived and we were told that, now, there would be a twenty minute wait. We moved to the front of the restaurant to get away from the restrooms and were told, most rudely, that we were in the way. We left.
Il Corallo was my worst restaurant experience ever!

I've been here a couple of times and everytime I go, I always come back again. The food is delightful, and delicious. The dishes are big and the menu lists forever. Also, during lunch time they offer a Lunch Special menu which is wonderful. This is by far my favorite place.

Chose this place at random while walking around SoHo and we were very pleased. It is small and crowded, but the atmosphere is very Italian. We were a party of five and were seated right away without a reservation. The menu is very long and has has almost too many choices. The antipasti we ordered were great and each of the entrees was exceptional. We didn't order pizza, but they had a good selection and they looked good. This was better than anything I've had in Little Italy or almost anywhere. On top of it all, it was very inexpensive. The same group had eaten at another Italian restaurant the night before and the bill here was half what it was there.

This quaint Italian restaurant is one of my personal favorites. The staff is always warm and friendly. The menu selection is extensive and everything my friends and I have ordered has always been absolutely delicious. The food is great, portions are perfect (not huge and not tiny) - all very reasonably priced. This is definitely a great place to go with friends or on a casual date.
