Arlene Grocery

Arlene's is a live music venue split into two rooms. One is solely a bar and the other the stage area with its own bar. It costs nothing to get into the regular bar area, and it's usually about $10 to see the bands. I believe Sunday nights are free. The lineups are generally a bit disjointed and dissimilar, unfortunately. There is a television in the regular bar area with a live feed of what's happening on stage so you can keep track of when the band you want to see is on. Good for you, bad for the other bands.

Arlene's Grocery is not actually a grocery store but a small live music venue on the Lower East Side. They don't usually book well-known bands, but if a band you know and/or like is playing there I suggest checking them out because it's a very small and intimate space. There is a separate bar as well as a bar in the performance room. As far as I know, the cover prices are generally low, and their popular Monday night rock and roll karaoke shows (with a live rock band) are free. I would recommend that newer local bands try to get booked here.

I have seen hundreds of great bands at Arlene's Grocery in the many years I've lived in the LES. They feature original, up and coming bands and the cover is always low. I think everyone I know has had a great time at their Punk Rock Karaoke nights. Arlene's is a Lower East Side staple and I hope it sticks around for a while.
