I am in NYC once a month and usually walk in to get a manicure. Nothing extraordinary but I have to say mine lasts (shine/buff) well over a week where the ones I get in ATL usually only last a few days.

Pros: Long lasting [male] manicure

Cons: None yet

.

Went in because my mom lost her gift certificate that I bought and gave to her on mother's day. They claimed that they had no record of the certificate having been purchased (and barely looked in their ledger). I even went back with a print out from the bank showing the transaction, and they wouldn't honor it.

Pretty disappointed, and because of their cheapness they lost at least a few customers from this.

Pros: Location

Cons: Management is awful

Keep an eye on your shoes - they have a habit of whisking them away to their shelves and then wrap them up to go home with the wrong customer - and don't think they'll be of any help. Snooty manager and those 'free massages' have dwindled to a pounding 15 seconds... Want a good mani/pedi? Go to one of the smaller non-factory settings in Chelsea.

Bloomies is a pseudo Korean owned chain. They have a host of services, but I have only ever done manicure and pedicure. They do a decent job of both and fit all the minimum requirements for a positive recommendation. They use all the normal salon brands, however, I think you may want to bring in a stronger top coat, as theirs rarely gets me through the end of the week.

PROS: Decent price, nice manicurists

This is my local Bloomie Nail, and I get regular manicures there. I'm not usually delighted (they just don't last more than three days), but I'm almost never actively disappointed. The price is low, the service is quick and friendly enough, and the experience is pleasant. Notably, there's a great range of nail colors, and the waxing services (which I no longer use only because I've switched to threading) are quite good.

PROS: Quick, inexpensive
CONS: Not the best manicure around
