Lombardi's is authentic! My husband and I live in southeast Texas and were only in NYC for a few hours yesterday (yes, just a few hours) and wanted to eat supper in Manhattan--preferably classic, NY-style pizza. We started walking up from the tip of lower Manhattan at Battery Park and stopped a NYC officer and asked his opinion. He told us about Lombardi's unique and special-tasting pizzas and how it was the first pizzeria in America. Well,...we knew we had found the kind of advice we were looking for to experience a great, NYC pizza. It was well worth the walk up to Little Italy because Lombardi's did not disappoint. The host was very friendly and seated us immediately (about 6 pm on a Mon. night), our waiter was pleasant, and our excellent Italian sausage and pepperoni pizza was served to us very fast and very fresh. We ate it with delight enjoying the savory tomato sauce, appetizing cheese, and flavorful meats. They were generous with all portions of ingredients (sauce, cheese, meats)...no cutting corners here. You can enjoy a Brooklyn Lager or ice-cold Coca-Cola (as we did), and your beverage will nicely compliment this one-of-a-kind pizza. Whether you're from one of the 49 states not priveleged enough to have Lombardi's at your backdoor or a true New Yorker through and through, either way, Lombardi's is the place for award-winning pizza. As far as pizzerias go, Lombardi's was the first and will outlast the rest. Do your tastebuds a favor and get on over to the corner of Mott and Spring and see for yourself!!

Pros: Pizza that makes your tastebuds say, "Thank you!"

Cons: Cash only (but they have an ATM...and, it's well worth it...leave the plastic at home for this delight)

Overpriced average pizza. Pretty much everything was average except the house wine and the price. Doubt I would go back again.

I don't care what anyone says good or bad about this place. Before I had been to Lombardi's my perception of pizza was skewed. Here is why - I live on the West Coast. Has the West Coast even heard of pizza? NO. Lombardi's showed me how pizza should be. I think this place is on the ball, great ambiance, pizzas are piping hot, fresh and fast with only the finest ingredients. Let me tell you something, I have been here three times and I only have been to New York twice... once for one day (yeah, I know - one day??) and then another time for a week. I ate here three times and I loved it. If you like thin crust Italian pizza, there here you go. If you like fast foot greasy give me a heart attack please now pizza. I can't help you... and I hope you wake up from your disillusion towards pizza soon. I don't have time for it.

Pros: Great pizza, executed perfectly. Yeah thumbs up quit asking.

Cons: That I won't allow myself to eat three pizzas at once because it's good enough where I'd like too. But that's rediculous to actually do.

If you are in NY, you HAVE to eat here! I ate here a couple of days ago, had the meatball pizza and after a couple of bites dicided to remove the meatballs and eat it plain, the thin crust, fresh melted mozzarella and the awesom sauce (you know it's 100% tomatoes with little more) does not need any topping, just perfect! Plus it's the first recognized pizza restaurant in the USA, now that is the original.

Pros: Pizza how it's meant to be!, worth the waiting

Cons: long waitting for a table (30 + minutes)

As a native New Yorker who now lives in California I always make it a point to eat as much pizza as I can when visiting NY. The pizza in CA stinks! Anyway on my last trip to NY I tried Lombardi's for the first time and it's definitely the best pizza I've ever had! I just had the plain cheese pizza. The crust is thin and crisp and a little burnt which is eactly the way I like it. The sauce was superb! I'll definitely go whenever I'm in NY.

OK, the pizza here is excellent. Just by tasting it you can tell that it's the most unsuccesfully copied product in the world. The crust and the toppings are superb. The sauce and cheese are excellent but not better than Angelo's (see my review) in Midtown. If you're anywhere near this place it is certainly a great idea for lunch. You can't really rate New York pizza until you've had the one served at Lombardi's. Don't dine alone here unless you're going straight home to put the leftovers in the fridge.

Whenever anyone asks me, "Where's the best pizza you've had in New York?"...well, you get the idea. Honestly, I've only been here once, since I live in Queens, but to me, this place is the epitome of New York City pizza. I recommend the Pizza Margherita (basil, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and garlic). It's simple, but that's what pizza is supposed to be, especially if it's from Little (or Big) Italy. Naturally, with such a historic landmark restaurant, there are long waits for tables. Believe me, though, it's worth it. The interior feels old and charming. There is an upstairs that offers additional seating, so be grateful, otherwise the lines would probably be twice as long.

If you have enough room for dessert, Rice-to-Riches is across the street. They serve nothing but rice pudding.

We had lunch and it was not only reasonable but delicious. Fresh Mozzarella on the pizza, great sauce.
The service was friendly and prompt. We even got a tour of the kitchen and coal fired oven. Don't miss this restaurant. (late weekday lunch was not so crowded)

I thought I had eaten pizza till I came here. Manager and waitress were wonderful. Very friendly. Great service and the best pizza I have ever had. Went to New York for a visit and had to find Lombardis. Can't make another trip to New York without going there. Well worth finding it.

While I haven't been to Italy, I have tried pizza everywhere I have traveled globally.
Lombardi's is absolutely the best!
I live more than 70 miles away but,
I have spent more than $75 just to travel into NYC for the sole purpose
of having a Lombardi's pizza.
It beats all the competition hands down.

My family and I were visiting from Arizona and absolutely loved the pizza. We are originally from NJ and it was by far the best sauce ever. Pizza in the west cannot compare to that of the east. But now I can say Lombardis is the best in the country!!

Just returned from a glorious summer weekend in New York and am so thankful that we stopped at Lombardi's for pizza and a beer on Saturday afternoon. First of all, don't be put off by the crowd waiting to get in - we were pleasantly surprised - seated in ten minutes. The pizza was absolutely incredible - super fresh toppings - coal oven crust - and the best pepperoni ever! A definite must for any trip to Manhattan!

This was the absolute best pizza I ever had. The crust was thin and cooked perfectly..dark spots around the perimeter (where the heat from the hot coal oven hissed at the crust) and the sauce was not overdone..it didn't overpower the pizza (like most) but was like a melody of flavors that blended perfectly in every bite..

WHAT a disappointment! I could not wait to see the Famous Lombardi's- but after the quick wait ( I arrived Early) it was still not worth wasting my tastebuds. The pizza was more crust then sauce and cheese. funky shape- pizza should be round, not like a smashed up stop sign. Hey !!! this is NYC -I want real pizza pies that looks and taste like a pizza should.
The dough tasted very doughie, partially uncooked in some areas- Sauce was very scare and bland, but cheese was tasty, but that should not be the only thing good on a pizza, if that -just sell me a handful of the cheese. what happened to New York pizzerias, what happen to the little ol' Italian man who used to make the pies when I was a kid. I was Embarrassed to bring my out of town guest to this waste of Money Lombardi's. I tell everyone how aweful and a tourist trap this place is, there are so many more little pizza palors around NY, that taste like real pizza. Even John's on Bleeker is better than this place

The best pizza I have ever had! I have been to all the other "famous" pizza places in NYC and Chicago, which all have good pizza, but none at as good as Lombardi's. The first and the best!

i read about lombardis and i really wanted to go see "Americas first pizzeria" when i arrived the host told me that i had to wait because he had to check for a table.. i was ok with it because it was his job. what was wierd was that ALL the tables were open, anyhow i had a waitress who i think said... "welcome to lombardis can i get you started on your drinks are you ready to order?" you would think after waiting 15 minuted for her to notice us the questions were just dumb. i can not remember my waitress except for the fact that she had dirty blond hair... anyhow she took our order: i order a italian soda that was delish and my boyfriend had a beer served on a hot glass..when i asked another waitress if she could change the beer she took it but didnt bring it back... the bread sticks were hard and didnt have flavor. Now the pizza was a dream come true... it was all done to perfection... when we were done eating, we wanted some coffee but my waitress was no where to be found but the bussboy gave us our drinks...the waitess came by and asked if everything was ok and gave us the check were she charged us for the beer and she after ten minutes she tells us that lombardis doesnt accept credit cards... anyhow we pulled cash out but it took her another ten minutes to bring us change... i gave her a $3 tip since she didnt do much. overall i think the ONLY good thing about lombardis was the pizza, other than that it was BLAH

This is how pizza is supposed to taste, not salty yellow mozzarella, but creamy white fresh mozz. Fresh herbs with roasted red peppers, wild mushrooms, and a sauce to bring them all together. Fantastic, I'm sure your favorite pizza toppings are equally delectable atop a Lombardi's. We got 6 breadsticks with sauce, for 2, and only ate 2 before the 'za arrived, then we savored our 3 slices each.
The service, let's see, the manager took us in the back and showed us the oven, a waitress from another table asked how we liked the food, as did the busboy, all personable and friendly. They all looked happy to be there.
The ambiance, just have a look at the celeb photos gracing the walls, they say Jack Nicholson is a regular when in town. Marilyn and Joe DiMaggio ate there.
Value, you get what you pay for and I'd have paid double for what I got, so it's worth every penny in my book.

We will visit Lombardi's on each subsequent visit to New York guaranteed.

I went there with my girlfriend, left feeling very disappointed . The wait was not so bad, but the pizza was not better than in any electric oven pizzeria in New York. The crust was very soggy and the toppings and tomato sauce were very bland. The service was poor and rude at times, as described in many other reviews.
Not recommended.

Not since my first trip to meet my relatives in Sicily have I had pizza as fresh and delicious as Lombardi's family-style pies. With fresh mozzarella melted over the sweet sauce made just like my grandmother used to, the pizza delivered just the kind of old-school satisfaction I was seeking. It was well worth the wait. There was one downside to this restaurant though: the adorable curly-haired, scruffy-bearded waiter that served me rebuffed my shameless flirtation. Politely but firmly he informed me he had a girlfriend, and his loyalties prompted my 40% tip. But I'll be persistant. And if not, there's always the cute bartender that kept me entertained while I waited to stuff my face. It's NOT the waiters that'll keep me coming back. It's the pizza, it's the pizza...

Cons: I wasted my paper napkin by leaving my phone number. Perhaps if I'd wiped my face with it instead, he'd have called me back...

I can't get enough of Lombardi's. A 45-minute wait for my pizza was rather inconvenient. However, the waiters kept us entertained with their charm. Chivalry thrives at the bar with Richard with his delectable margaritas and corteous service. Can't wait to plan my next big dinner out at Lombardi's. I'm in love. The end.

I recently visited NYC in Jan-07 again. Starving for pizza I walked 50 NYC blocks to Lombardi's Pizza. Pizza being my favorite food, I have to say the pizza at Lombardi's was the BEST PIZZA EVER!

The atmosphere in the restaurant was fantastic along with the friendly service!

I can't wait to go back!!! Lombardi's is Numero Uno!

I have had Chicago style pizza, and now I have had New York style pizza. There is no comparison. Lombardi's New York style pizza is absolutely the best. The crust is thin and crispy. The toppings are flavorful and plentiful. We had no wait for a table and we had our food within 10 minutes of placing our order. I don't why anyone would give a bad reivew!

Went there the first time- a bland pie with too much tomato sauce and not enough salt/pepper. Figured it was an off-night. Came back- a bland pie with too much tomato sauce, canned mushrooms on top and burnt sausage.
What's the hype about?
Tottonnos' in Coney Island is by far superior.

I agree with missyg12. Our experience was less than stellar, to say the least. It began when we put our name on the list for the "20 minute wait"--well it was actually about 45 minutes! We sat down, and the bus boy came over with waters for the table and ended up knocking one over onto my boyfriend. Well, we should have left then, but we stayed. No apology was offered nor did anyone offer any compensation--in fact, most of the staff simply stared, as we cleaned everything up. We ordered and our food arrived in a timely manner. The pizza was very good-but that's about all this place has going for it. We never saw our waiter again. We had to ask another server for more drinks, and she "huff"-ed at us and had someone else do it! After we finished, we could not leave soon enough. The food was good, but the experience was horrible! Neadless to say, we will not be returning.

Pros: good pizza, but there is better.

Cons: Horrible service.

.

Pizza was pretty good. Everything else was awful. From the moment we walked in; the host asked how many in our party. We said two. She was wearing an earpiece to communicate with someone else regarding seating. She spoke into the earpiece and said "party of two" and then asked the people behind us how many was in their party. They said 3, and a stroller. She then spoke into the earpiece a 2nd time and said 3 and a stroller. She looks at us again and said "HOW many in your party"? It wasn't even very busy.

We got seated and 5 or so minutes later a server walked over and said "do you need menus"? Uh, yeah! Isn't that standard? So we ordered and the pizza was good. Not to die for, but good, but of course we never saw our server even one more time until she presented the check (not asking us if we want anything else mind you), basically saying "here's your check, now give me my tip".

I have never done this in my life, but I told her point blank that our service was terrible, and I explained why. She told me that the reason she didn't ask if we wanted more drinks is because they don't offer free refills on drinks. I said "and"??? I would have paid for another round.

I told her if she wants to make money for herself and for the restaurant she needs to make sure her table has everything they need and not just drop the food and reapper 40 minutes later to collect a gratuity. She apologized and was very nice and understanding, but I still felt this place was a train wreck.

With all the thousands of restaurants in NYC owners need to make service a big priority. Forget about the food, the decor....if I get bad service I'm not coming back. I won't be back to this place!

I love this place. A bit of a wait for seating but worth it. Great simple pizza. Not hiding anything behind seasoning or sauces. Simple delicious old world pizza.

Lombardi's is a place where anyone who loves pizza and is visiting NYC needs to go. The notariety and experience are well worth it, not to mention the coal-fired brick oven taste of real pizza. Glad we made the trip!

Don't miss the chance to take the rail to America's first pizzeria! This will be the best pizza to ever touch your lips. It is full of flavor and not full of grease like some pies. I was in NYC for personal business and took the F and Green down to Spring St. To get to our table we were toured through the historic kitchen. It was awesome. I was really looking forward to trying this pizza as I try pizza in every town in which I travel and it was the BEST I have had. 2nd best is actually mid Manhattan off Lexington. The staff was great. The server was not great. I love the NY style of attitude, but this guy was just plan rude.

Don't miss Lombardi's!

The pizza is okay certainly not the best and yes OVerrated. However for some reason we order there from time to time for the office, that's b/c its usuallyafter work and were serve alcohol with it and I guess that's why they love it. But believe me whenI say there's something always missing and you can't quit enjoy it

My wife and I saw a special on the History Channel which featured Lombardi's and learned that it was the first pizzarea in the united States. (1904) We made it a point to visit Lombardi's on our "Christmastime" trip to NYC. We were not let down. Not only was the pizza excellent, the atmosphere and staff was great. I asked if someone would take a picture of us by the original oven. Not only was that done, but the entire cook staff got involved and participated in the picture. We now have a great picture with the oven in the background and some very happy faces. If you are going to NYC, you must visit this landmark. You get some history and a great meal.

Our family of 7 always tries a local pizza place when traveling. We hate eaten pizza from Chicago, St. Louis, Denver, New York, and quite a few others. This has become a vacation tradition. What we have found is there is nothing better than Lombardi's. We loved the atmosphere and the pizza is second to none. When back in Wichita, KS we were asked about our favorite part of New York and all of us agreed it was Lombardi's. 6 months has past since we have eaten at Lombardi's and we still talk about going back to New York and a stop at Lombardi's. If you are traveling to New York do not pass this great pizza place up. If you live in New York you better get over there to eat, you should know the best pizza in America is in you backyard.

I love this place, and I'm lucky enough to be in their delivery area so I order from them quite a bit. The pizza is delicious - the small, spicy pepperonis are amazing and the sausage is quite good as well. I've heard good things about the clam pizza but haven't yet tried it. Great for delivery except in the winter when it'll get cold by the time it gets to your door.

Pros: Very tasty pizza

Sweet sauce, fresh toppings, thin crust, somehow it all comes together like no other pizza in New York. Added bonus, they have a wide delivery range so I can get one at my apartment when I'm too lazy to walk to the restaurant. When it comes time to order a pizza, this is always my first thought.

The pizza at Lombardi's is AMAZING. My husband and I visit New York several times a year and visit Lombardi's each and every time. We always order the white pizza and a pepperoni pizza (leftovers are always great!). Back in Baltimore, I find myself craving the white pizza (my favorite) and wishing someone around here made one like it. The staff are always friendly and quick (even when they tell us the wait is 30 minutes, it's often half that long).

On our last visit, my mother left a bag of items she had purchased from the Met. Unfortunately, she didn't realize it until it was too late to go back to get it before we left for home. A quick call to Mike and Gilbert and the bag was in an envelope on its way to my mother in Ohio. They really went above and beyond the call of duty. The people and the pizza they make are the reason Lombardi's is a MUST DO when in New York City.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Lombardi's. We look forward to many visits in the future!

The pizza here is terrific. Up there with Arturo's and Grimaldi's. But they have to do something about the temperature of the tap beer. It's lukewarm!!!! Last time I was there I saw a customer send his warm beer back. Go for pizza, leave for ice cold beer.

My husband and I have been to Little Italy several times and had never eaten at Lombardi's. I'm so glad we finally did! We were seated promptly and the food was excellent!! The fresh pizza sauce, homemade meatballs and especially the to die for crust were amazing!!! The only complaint I had was the server didn't come around to refill drinks etc without us having to call her repeatedly back to our table, but in fairness the place was busy. Aside from that it was a wonderful experience and if you love pizza this is the place!

Weeks before coming to New York all I heard from my boyfriend was "I can't wait for Lombardi's!" From the moment we walked in the front door everyone was so accommodating. We had two beers in addition to the tomato and mozzarella. When our pizza came out we barely said a word to each other because we couldnt stop eating. So much flavor and freshness! Our server was great, and the atmosphere makes for the most perfect dinning experience. Next time we are in New York, Lombardis will be our first stop! Unforgettable.

Sure there is a lot of great pizza in New York City, but Lombardi's has thee pizza! My neighbor here in Arizona is retired NYPD. When he heard that I was taking my son to Yankee Stadium, he told me NOT TO MISS Lombardi's if I wanted the best pizza I had ever had. I wasn't disappointed. The aroma when you walk through the door is fantastic! The pizza is better!
Service and ambience was great, but I would go back for the pizza even if it wasn't.

My husband and I recently visited NY again and my husband insisted our first stop was Lombardi's Pizza! For 2 weeks before our trip all I heard was "I can't wait to eat at Lombardi's" WE BOTH LOVED THE PIZZA! It's amazing that you can actually taste tomato and basil on a pizza. Now that we are back in CA our so called "pizza" is just so not pizza. I know when we return to NY; Lombardi's will be a main stop again. My husband is now going through Lombardi withdrawals! I have to say I was also impressed with the cleanliness and stellar service of the restaurant. Thanks Lombardi's for allowing my husband to have his picture taken with your 1905 Lombardi's Mosaic in the background. We need you in California Lombardi's!!!!

My father was in New York after 9/11. He work in a Disaster Relief kitchen. His group made meals for workers and others who needed them. A few of his group decided to eat out one night. They asked a "local" where was a good place to get pizza. The first name out of their mouth was Lombardi's. They told him the location was neat, the staff fantastic, and the pizza was heavenly. They gave it a try and LOVED it!!! They recommended it to all the other workers in their group. My dad isn't a pizza person, but he hasn't stopped talking about to this day. I was impressed with his being impressed. If we order a pizza, he says "I wish we were at Lombardi's". I have recommended Lombardi's to several friends who have visited New York. They all have the same response - WONDERFUL!!!!

Fortuanately, Dad married and Itallian lady, so homemade pizza was as normal as fresh anchovies. Throw in home made sausage made with wine, squid, snales with a fancy name and you got the picture. We ate alot of Sicilian type pies also, so the thin crust at Lombardi's was OK, blackened a bit on the bottom.. I'm used to golf ball sized meatballs so these were OK, a bit salty, not quite enough cheese inside, but that's OK too. Making pies is an individual thing, like an artist at work, so the beauty is in the beholder..and every pie maker is unique, and to me wonderful. I really enjoyed the warm atmosphere, it's definitely a great night out.

The atmosphere is casual and but sophisticated. There is alot of history at this place, but it's super hip! It's a really lively place and a great romantic atmosphere as well. The original pizza is awesome! It is sooo good, my mouth is watering! I've never had a pizza quite like this before...the service is quick and friendly and the Italian soda is really good too! You have to try this place out! Especially if you like Pizza...but if you've never had any this is a good place to try it out too!
