If you are looking for an Old World Italian food experience, this is the place. Decorated in "early Sporanos," complete with Red velvet curtains and drawings of the "old country" you'll be escorted back to a time when waiters were professional yet grumpy and there was no such thing as pasta (only spaghetti). The food however, is good, especially the fish specials.

When asked the waiter had excellent suggestions. The fried zucchini could not have been better, nor the eggplant. The service was attentive withouth 'hovering." I would recommend without question for an informal, good Italian meal, or a special event!

I recently arranged a group office lunch (about 15 people) at Bamonte's, a familiar restaurant of mine. We came over from midtown Manhattan and the group was a diverse one, most never heard of the place. When they left they would never forget it and said it was well worth the trip. Bamonte's has been around for over 100 years. They give you a reasonable price fix menus for groups (a choice of three). The price fix menu was excellent, as some have said, just like home. The sauces - whether on pasta, seafood, pork, veal or whatever - are great. The service... excellent! It does have that back home Italian-American atmosphere that is slowly disappearing. I've also been there a few times with groups of four or eight and the regular menu is wonderful. In a world of Olive Gardens and designer restaurants, visit this classic.

Pros: Great food, atmosphere and service. Feels like visiting an old friend.

Cons: Maybe tough to find the first time. Other than that, nothing.

My family and I ate at this restaurant tonight. The food is terrible and overpriced. The chicken scarparella was more like chicken francese and the calamari was undercooked. The appetizers were the worst. The decor is outdated and the service was poor. Save your money, go somewhere else.

Went to this restaurant for a friend's birthday. While the atmosphere was intimate and the patrons diverse, the Went to this restaurant for a friend's birthday. While the atmosphere was intimate and the patrons diverse, the food and the service were absolutely horrendous. I ordered a pasta of the day that was supposed to include sun dried tomatoes, shrimp, portabella mushrooms, etc- what I got was a bowl of plain pasta in bland vegetable broth with a few fresh tomatoes and wild broccoli. I alerted my waiter to the missing shrimp and when I received my dish again it the same bowl of pasta (now cold) with five shrimp piled on top. For nineteen dollars I expect so much more. My friends were similarly disappointed by their meals. This was by far one of the worst meals I have had in a long time.

I've lived in W'burg all my life and have heard amazing things about this place but never could find it. Well, the inlaws were in town over the holidays and we finally found it! They were great at accomodating a party of 16! Service was top notch (friendly and accomodating), food was FABULOUS and the ambiance and decor...well you only see this original, old school style in old movies. Let me not forget to mention the bill...UNBELIEVEABLE, i thought they made a mistake, it was much less than we had expected to spend. The only thing that was missing was Laura's cheesecake. :0) It's worth making the circles to figure out you can't get in on Union and it's only a half a blcok away from the Catholic school.

It's on a little street that might be tough to find for some, but this place is worth the extra trouble or the argument with the cab driver. A slice of family life at the table. Bamonte's is not a place to go if you are on a diet. Many of the wait staff are very old school and have been there for a long time. They have the team approach to waitering; they'll all take care of you.

There is one long rectangular room which is the one and only dining room. The kitchen is in the rear and the windows let you see much of the action in the kitchen. The decor is the era before lighting designers hushed a room with their trade.

Don't order the steak; go somewhere else for that. Order something red sauce; that's what you come here for. Enjoy!

Pros: good to know long running family restaurants can continue to thrive

Cons: a little hard to find -- google it and bring the map

The Best Restuarant I know in Brooklyn. The food is great and the service is top notch, from the guy that watches the parking lot to the waiters.

We live in Michigan and were visiting our son who lives in Brooklyn. He chose Bamonte's for us to celebrate his 25th birthday. Bamonte's is a warm, friendly, beautiful restaurant...definitely the feeling it is run by family. The best appetizer was mussels in marinara...delicious. We also had manicotti, linguinie with white clam sauce and red clam sauce, three fabulous dishes. Would recommend this place to everyone. Can't wait to go back!

After a year in Tuscany, when we took my daughter to Bamonte's she said it was the most authentically Italian flavored food she had had since leaving. The seafood dishes are simply superb and the wine list is superior and NOT gouge priced! Terrific value...great fun. A real NY secret if you only think NY means Midtown Manhattan.

this place is the absolute pinnacle of Italian-American red sauce cuisine. From the maroonish wallpaper and the faux-bronze busts to the stately waiters in black bow ties, from the gooey lasagne with meat sauce AND sausage to the creamy oversized desserts, this place will take you back to the 50's. Bring your granny, bring a date with an appreciation for retro authenticity, but do come try Bamonte's. This place is the distilled essence of Brooklyn Italian culture. Have anything with red sauce (and almost everything has red sauce!) and enjoy!

I love this place! The vodka pork chops with sweet peppers are amazing!! Do not pass this place up just because you have to leave the island, for it will be you who misses out.

I grew up going to Bamonte's. One of their waiters has been taking care of my family, starting with my grandparents, for thirty years. It is like going to my second home and the food is really great southern Italian cooking. Nothing pretentious, just good food.

Bamonte's created the best appetizer I've ever tasted by blending together two of my favorite flavors - clams and bacon. Clams Casino is available at almost all Italian eatries, but Bamonte's does it best. They use large, crispy strips of bacon, fresh clams and the light red sauce that covers the dish is amazing even by itself. I recommend using your bread and sopping up the sauce. Or just eat with it a spoon, no one could blame you if you did.

I grew up eating at Bamonte's for every special family occation. Now that we've moved from Brooklyn to Long Island we still make the trip for one of the best Italian meals NY has to offer. Not as pricey as the Manhattan scene and the portions are fit for a Roman Army. OK so the decor is a little old and tacky but it adds to the atmosphere. Leave room for desert if you can!
