I have used Flat Rate several times before. My experience has always been a positive one so far. This time, Mother Nature did not quite cooperate? High winds and rain made the move so much more difficult! I am happy to say that once again flat rate impressed me with their level of professionalism-the crew worked very hard to make it quick, efficient and painless. The quality control rep called during the move to check on us and it was greatly appreciated and very reassuring. Thank you, Flat Rate for yet another fantastic moving experience. I strongly recommend using flat rate moving- they are the best!

We hired Flatrate for our move because of the security of knowing the cost of the move with no surprises. We were misled from the get go. The company representative claimed Flatrate had an Art and Antiques section...not true...and that they would be equipped to handle our move. He also said to us that we must have our own insurance, and wouldn't need theirs. Very slick. The movers broke four legs of an antique English partners desk. They were told the desk was fragile and could not bear extra weight...they did not listen. Someone from the company said they would repair and restore the desk; additional damage was done, and the cost to us to repair and restore the desk was $3000.00. This does not include the loss in value which is many thousands of dollars. Next, the movers were unable to figure out how to move an unusually shaped dining table base through a doorway. They pushed and pulled the table, until I explained to them that dining tables are 29 and 30 inches high, and by simply turning the base on it's side, it could be walked through the doorway. Damage to table base, $950.00. Finally, we were told the crew that moved us out would move us in, not so. Consequently, a mover was standing next to a tall, narrow carton, which was standing on it's end...he looked away and it smashed to the ground, shattering a glass table top. Replacement cost: $1,100.00. In addition, keys were not taped to the inside of an antique armoire, and so they were lost...they were original to the piece. $265.00 to replace the keys, loss of value to the piece. We have been offered a little more than $300 by Flatrate, after waiting two months. If you hire these people, you do so at your own risk. Do not be misled by a friendly rep and crew, competence is the name of the game, and it's sorely missing here.

To make a long story short... my boyfriend and I moved apartments recently, and felt harrassed by the movers sent to us by Flat Rate Movers. We payed over $1000 to move, and are obviously upset because of that. The three guys who came to our apartment to move us figured out we were gay (it's not that hard) and decided to make fun of us by writing "funny comments" on one of the moving boxes. As you may know, moving boxes list names of rooms on their sides to identify what room the contents belong in -- for example, "living room," "bedroom," "kitchen", or "other." These guys, when we weren't looking, checked off "other" and wrote in "GAY ROOM". This is totally unacceptable, especially since we felt we hadn't been anything except nice to them. When we complained to Flat Rate Movers, they basically said that they trusted their movers, and that they didn't believe they would do something like that. Which is completely absurb, because they stupidly left the box behind at our old apartment. Please don't use Flat Rate Movers, and if you have the time, please call them to complain about their homophobic policy -- call them at 212.988.9292.
