Just ate Valentines Day dinner at The Steer. We had not been there in quite some time and were happy to see the remodeled insides... and anticipated that perhaps the food from the new menu would be even better as well. Unfortunately, that was certainly not the case. We enjoyed the calamari appetizer but the meal went downhill from there. Too bad, since its right in our neighborhood we used to go there often... but don't plan on returning again.

I have been a patron of the Steer for almost 18 years it is my Cheers. I watched them from their opening day, when Main Street used to shut down for the carnival on Main Street and the amusement park rides at UB. The first meal I ever ate there was Jamaican Jerk Chicken and boy was it good!! Over the years it became like my second best place to be besides home and I brought more and more friends throughout my 20's and even now at 40. Even when I took a long break from going my friends still went which kind of ticked me off...lol...that's my bar!...lol. Speaking of bar...it is sooooo much more and there's a lot of money in those bricks I tell people. The food has done nothing but bettered itself, the atmosphere is college and adult alike. There's times I've been in there and young and old were having the best of times together. It's not the alcohol either it's simply the people who do not go there and turn their nose up at imperfections, what place is perfect? But I do know the Steer strives to be. So if you've had bad food, a bad time or experience and there were bad people or bad employees there it doesn't mean do not go back, it simply means try it again and let them know what you felt that individual time and believe you me, trust they will do what they can to make that time never have existed. Now do not go in there asking for the world for something that happened five years ago, with an employee who no longer works there about a meal they no longer make by a chef who left two years ago. Simply say, ??ya know I had a bad experience in here once...? and they'll take it from there.

You might say I am sticking up for them and I am. They are growing and the owners are the coolest, most coolest, cool couple I know...lol...and they done good! See if you can get Food Network to come to your house? Hmmmm...well can you? All I am asking is for the people of a city to make a business of city better itself you do not go bash it you tell it to them so they can fix it and thrive. Visit the Steer now, man it looks like a 5 star restaurant that you can put your feet up in the bar stool and kick back in some shorts and a tank top & flip-flops or where a man can take his woman for a tasty romantic dinner of variety and taste then head to the bar and throw back some shots.

The patio is fabulous, it is so cool and you get a posh feeling about yourself when you sit out there in the summer time and the traffic goes up and down Main Street Buffalo, the people walk by and smile at you, the kids ride their bikes by as if they were on a park like bike trail. I have sat there many, many times. And just like a patron we called the Professor, who once visited the Steer every single evening without fail, rain-sleet-or-snow, who ate the same exact meal, sat in his same exact seat at his same exact table with his bankers lamp (provided by the Steer, I might add) until the day he passed away. I will be a lifer too. Why not? I found good thing there 18 years ago. You might too.

Love Celest.

We were there last night for supper and the meal itself was not good not to mention you had to order sides seperately and that added an extra $4.00 to the meal. I've never seen meals without sides if only potoe chips. Anyways, while we were eating some drunk ass young girls came in to eat and they were loud and had no respect for others around them. Also, one of them pulled there pants down and showed her bare ass and thought it was cute. The restaurant is also under renovation and the dining room table was full of dust!!! All in all was not pleased with our night at the Steer!!!

Most people know the steer as just a bar, but it is an excellent restaurant. Everything I've ever eaten there has been excellent. Outstanding food quality in a casual atmosphere.

I had a tab opened for an office party here. Within 2 minutes the bar tender told me the tab was over. They are cheats here because we COUNTED 5 beers that were served. I then was charged 4 times on my credit card when I opened another tab/ all for 2 drinks. The bar tender was awfully rude; the staff was nowhere to be seen when needed; overall this charade cost me over 500 bucks. This place cheats you off your money. Others have complained about this as well. I should have listened. They are also known to write their own reviews to drive traffic to this lousy college bar. Beware

I got in illegally with a pathetic fake id and wasn't discovered until I'd been there for at least an hour when i told my friend to get me an himself a drink with my card that didn't match my fake obviously so the ever vigilant staff noticed this and matched my card with the id i had presented an kicked me out, but somehow they couldn't notice the id was obviously fake. here's to justice everywhere! oh BTW once they kicked me out i had to walk back to my house in -3 degree weather but its OK at least they prevented someone who was underage from having one more drink

I Stopped by The Steer for some wings the other day and wow was I disappointed. First off the bathrooms were hideous. Flies everywhere, Graffiti on the wall, and worst of all no hand soap. Are you kidding me??? Next I ordered the chicken wings on a recommendation of some friends. What a mistake. It took over 45 minutes to get my wings, and I could not get a drink due to the fact that the bartender was to busy working on his crossword puzzles. All in all I would never go back to this establishment due to poor food quality and poorer service. To the owners and managment, time to hire some new help.

We went on a quiet Sunday night and it was deserted. Walked in through the bar and it felt like a college hang out. But, the steak was really excellent.

Always known for its wings and other appetizers. When near the University of Buffalo Main Street ,a good pick for lunch or dinner at affordable prices

I know your restaurant group is capable of much much more, I do not lament the money spent. Please keep my hundred dollars and put it towards next years Valentine's Day.
Moreover, I would never consider using such harsh words if i had not spent over 10 years in the service industry. Restaurant work subsidized my education and It is grueling, demanding, and thankless. But the rewards are happy clients who go home to tell their friends, not write negative reviews. Please prove me wrong, please don't allow another Buffalo institution to fade in the abyss. Down economy or not, we don't dine out to have our food microwaved then rushed out while salad plates and appetizer plates are still on the table out in total silence. Your menu and servers did an excellent job having us out in 44 minutes, too bad we did not have a 9pm movie to catch, because were just sitting here thinking, 'what the heck happened in two years?'
Prove us wrong please

Pros: Excellent humane trated beef and poultry

Cons: Scaled back menu and food quality

My partner and I had a very good meal here. The french fries are hand cut with the potato skins left on - cooked to a satisfying crisp. Steaks are generous portions, but be sure to ask for rare if you want medium rare - they tend to overcook slightly. Salads are terrfic and you can add seared ahi tuna to create a complete meal. Desserts are not generally made in house, except for the apple crisp. Do try it, as it is delicious. Great selection of wines and beers, and a patio where you can watch the world go by and still feel like you are in a private space. The only real disappointment was that they were out of ribs on the night we were there. Oh - and there were smokers on the patio - which made dining a bit unpleasant.

My Fiancee and I had a phenomenal dinning experience at The Steer Restaurant & Saloon... What a great Restaurant!!! I would say it is a casual fine dinning atmosphere... and the food and service were great. The also had a wonderful patio that we were able to enjoy after dinner. Then are server was kind enough to give us a little history and tour. they have a beautiful upstairs banquet room with a roof top patio.... alot of changes have taken place at this restaurant over the years... my parents met here 30 years ago... a definate historical landmark in Buffalo, and a great steakhouse....Thanks we will definately make this a regular weekly event.... and the BBQ Shrimp!!!! Awesome!!! Hey is this really Buffalo's Oldest Steakhouse???
