I've been to many Italian restaurants but Felida has to be one of the best. Their ravioli with pear was great, the most delicious, freshest whole branzino I've had in years. Cant wait for an occasion to go back.

I was blown away by how delicious my dinner was at Felidia last week. Everything I ordered was incredible. I never knew a green bean salad would be worth writing about but it is! LOVED the pastas, my husband and I split two as a mid course. Truly amazing. I cannot wait to go back.

We are a group of friends who have traveled extensively and eaten at great restaurants in the U.S. and Europe, and we thought this was one of our best experiences. We cannot imagine how other reviewers had a negative experience here. Every bite of food was truly delicious from the wafers and pea puree served with drinks to the appetizers to the heavenly pasta to the excellent entrees and scrumptious desserts. Staff was efficient and friendly, and even gave us a card which included printed information on the wonderful wines we had with dinner. We all had a very special time, and I tip my hat to Lidia and her team. I appreciate every detail being attended to as well as the concern for the highest quality food and service. Thanks and congratulations.

Pros: Absolutely delicious food and great service

Cons: Can't think of one

The most authentic and delicious Italian meal I've had outside of Italy. I enjoyed a great tasting menu along with a bottle of Lidia's wine. The staff was courteous and didn't rush us. I will definitely go back.

My son's girlfriend gave us a gift certificate to this resturant about 2 years ago.We live in Brooklyn and frequent all the greatest Italian eateries there. My wife is Italian as is her mother and father. My youngest son is 26 and a great cook.I have a passion for fabulous Italian food.My wife is the greatest cook in the world. She cooks all authentic Italian food and is also the greatest baker bar none.We were very excited to visit Felidias; we went for the special-value three course dinner menu. Her TV show is very good and we have all watched it for years.
Now the review....her wait staff is not knowlegeable, especially about the value menu .... her food was the worst I've ever had.....and the minimalist desert was a disaster. It left my lips swollen and my stomach with cramps.WHERE IS THIS AN ITALIAN RESTURANT ? Nothing Italian there. The biggest disapointment ever.Visited on 02/17/09

One word: AMAZING! I had the most incredible meal with my husband here last week. We feasted on the freshest Crudo I've had in years and then enjoyed a tasting of their homemade pastas. We indulged and ordered a shaving of the black winter truffle over our porcini tagliatelle- I can?t tell you how delicious it was! My husband is from Umbria and he said the flavors brought him back to his childhood. We were made to feel at home at home with perfect but non intrusive service. This is our new special place.

I visited Felidia last night for the first time. While the food was okay, it was not spectacular. The menu was overpriced and the service pushy. My biggest complaint is that their website advertises menu items that ARE NOT available in the restaurant! For those prices, a mistake like that is inexcusable. They need to update their website. Overall, it was a poor experience and I won't return.

This restaurant is very pricey. The service is wonderful, the food is simply prepared however somewhat uneven. Some courses were exceptional while others too simplistic. The atmosphere is elegant a place to go for a special occasion.

I had a reservation for about a month at Felidia. It was made by our concierege. When I arrived with my editor, even though the restaurant had 5 empty tables, I was told we could sit by the kitchen door or next to the chafing dish where they deboned the fish. When I asked the maitre d about the other tables, the very curt reply was that they were all reserved. We finally sat next the work station. The waiter was unfriendly and the table was extremely uncomfortable for three people. Even though this restaurant is owned by a women, all the women who entered without a male companion were given lousy tables and the couples or men alone were given the nice spots. The food was quite good but not worth the attitude of everyone who served us. I have been to many restaurants in NY and quite like trying different chefs, but I have never been treated as badly. I will not go back.

People who pan Felidia's food don't understand good cooking. Only the freshest seasonal ingredients are employed in simple, elegant preparations that reveal their full flavor. The homemade pasta is finished tableside, which only adds to the freshness. I also shared a Japanese organic salmon for two, and we both agreed it was as good as any fish we'd ever had anywhere in the US, Asia or Europe. Highly recommended.

I went to the dinner at Felidia last night and had the most AMAZING dinner. They had local farmers in from upstate NY who brought local produce and meats. It was the freshest food I had ever tasted. Everything was just really perfect. I spent a lot of time talking to the wine director who gave me some really great tips on picking wines that will pair with food. I thought for sure that he would try to sell me the most expensive bottle but he didn't he recommended the most delicious wine I believe it was from their owners label and it was under $40. Perfect first experience at Felidia I will definitely be back.

Pros: Food and wine

The worst!
The servers stood around, talking and looking at themselves in the mirror. The salad was a disgrace, a bag of frisee with other vegetables to be seen. I would have settled for an olive in there. The pasta had to be sent back, it had a funny, sour taste, not the diablo sauce I ordered. All in all, a nightmare and not a cheap one. I will never go back and would warn anyone else to stay away.

Disappointing. We were a family of 8 New Yorkers, mostly Italians, good cooks. Love Lidia's books, shows, recipes, but choice offered us was uninspired and limited (only tasting menu was available because of size of our party.) Outlandishly expensive, including $7 per bottle of water. Lovely wait staff, but would not go back.

I went there with my husband.
Felidia had nice atmosphere. There are authentic furniture and red lights make the mood nicer.
At first, I felt this restaurant must be good. As I thought, food was not bad. I ordered shurimp rock with lemon garlic sauce. It was baked in oven. It was really tasty. But my husband plate was not so good. He oldered sea bass carpaccio. There were only three slices and a few asparagus. It's too expensive, I think.
Anyway, pasta that we ordered were avarage.
But I felt service was so slow and bad. After we checked menu, waiter didn't come to ask order until we call him. It took more than 10 min that he came...
After we had a dinner and finished check, and when we went to cloakroom, it happened.
The cloak lady asked to pay two dollars for each as tip!!
My husband gave her two dollars that he thought he would pay for me as well as himself.
But she must have thought I also would give her two dollals.
And she said to me that I also should pay.
Ofcourse I know two dollars are tiniy and I don't care about the price
but I think she is so mean and greedy!
At that time, I decided not to come back to Felidia. They have too bad service.

We decided to try Felidia again - maybe we were just unlucky on our first visit. Well, after a long wait, 30 minutes, for our 8:00 reservation we were seated at a great table upstairs which really beats the main level due to the "Tokyo Subway" effect of the waitstaff shuffling about the tables. Service was efficient, but we seemed to have four waiters. The wedding pillow pasta was divine - lots of citrus, very fresh and delectable. The bone-in pork loin was overcooked and completely dry to the point where even a steak knife wouldn't cut through it. So the grill guy went on break maybe, I don't know, but that pork was DEAD.
The after dinner tasty sweat treats were divine - A for effort, but with so many other choices in town, the restaurant needs to do better on the layout and food quality to garner a return visit.

I hadn't been back to Felidia for a few years and was in the neighborhood last Thursday night. I managed to get a table with no reservation. The food was better than ever. I had the Bianco Neri with Calamari which was out of this world for my appetizer and then I had the Cod with Tuscan bread soup for an entree. This place certainly still has its magic after so many years. Give it a try if you haven't been there in a while or try it for the first time, it wont dissapoint!

that pear and pecorino-filled ravioli is awesome, I should've ordered it as an entree though the soft shell crab special was delicious as well.

my only gripe about this place was when I made the reservation 2-3 wks ago, they made me give a credit card to hold the reservation and when I called the day of to confirm, the hostess was very rude and said there was no reservation etc. and damn near close to hang up on me. after making me spell my long last name 10 times, she finally figured out the person who took the reservation initially made it for June 29th instead of may 29. thankfully she said not to worry, that there would be a table for us when we got there, but she never apologized for being rude and not wanting to help at 1st. she?s lucky I didn?t see her there when I arrived, I was ready to get stank

After watching Lidia's shows we ended up at Felidia. We were greeted but we were not seated for 5 minutes. Five minutes later she asked us to follow her and she took us upstairs. I don't mind going upstairs but our mother is 89 years old. After reaching upstairs mom wanted to wash her hands but bathrooms were two flights downstairs. Everyone in the staff looked at my struggling mom and laughed at her.
We spent 30 minutes waiting for a table and mom to get climb steps back and forth. Finally we ordered drinks and before we received our drinks we were told our table was reserved. We were not happy but we moved. We received our drinks but this time no one served us water. Our table was very uncomfortable, staff was running around and bumping into our chairs.
Finally when we received our first course and it was great. My main course lamb was over cooked but we didn't say anything. I told waiteress it was mom's 89th brithday but they didn't do anything. No candle and no one from the staff wished her happy birthday.
We spent over $500 and left very unhappy. BTW: 2 people sat at the first table and seems like everyone focused on them.
Sorry Lidia, you won't see us again.

I strongly disagree with the posted negative reviews. On May 10, 2007, we enjoyed a SUPERB dining experience at Felidia -- GREAT food (especially the pasta and game), terrific and reasonably-priced wines (with the help of a very accomodating sommelier) and very attentive service. We'd rank it among our best NY dining experiences overall (and the price was quite reasonable as well, considering all the above). Brava, Lidia!!!

This was my fourth visit to Felidia and undoubtedly the last. The service is consistently tired and seems to lack any enthusiasm, or coordination. Although the food is unquestionably excellent, the space is utterly horrible - not a single table in the cramped brownstone seems immune from the constant traffic in and out of the kitchen. The rustic atmosphere is more suitable to an irish pub than a fine restaurant. The 60+page wine list is extensive, but guest selections are tasted by the sommelier before being served - a practice that some may find condescending (not to mention expensive). The room is tired and the basement rest rooms are what one would expect in a Manhattan pizza joint and not in a place like this (one needs to navigate past a prep kitchen). Our tab for 2 with tip was well over $500 and, while I was in the ladies room, my companion was asked to pack up and leave because they needed the table. He was embarrassed. I was humiliated to return and find him in the foyer, coat in hand. I could understand this completely if it was a pre-theater seating, or if we had lingered. But we ate quickly and each had a single cup of coffee. I don't think that, at those prices, the additional 1 minute it took while I was at the ladies room was worth the offense. I think the $1,500, or so that I've spent in the last several visits would merit better treatment, but for now it's Ciao Felidia.

.

For starters, I had to call the morning of our dinner & add 2 more people to our reservation. I gave our last name & mentioned our reservations were either for 8 or 8:30. I was rudely spoken to by the lady that answered the phone with a "heavy italian accent" (I really hope it wasnt lidia herself...even though it sounded very much like her). She said "I cannot believe how someone doesnt know what time their dinner is, how come you dont know", spoke to me like I was 5 years old, & told me to get a pencil & write it down!!! Very nasty on the phone. We arrived at dinner, we were 6 people & ordered 8 entrees (which are not cheap) & originally asked them to split one of the pastas. I guess when it came to the table, they had forgotten, (no big deal), so we asked them for an extra plate or split it for us. The waiter gave us a very nasty look & never came back. Then he insisted on giving us dessert menus, & when we decided not to, he rolled his eyes & abruptly walked away. It was not much of a friendly atmosphere. Lidia did make an appearance & greeted each table. The experience from the employees all day, just did not make the experience pleasant. The food was good, but not worth going back for. We go out to all great restaurants of NYC...I wouldnt go back. Definately had better italian food, with a friendlier experience. If you go, dont expect too much from the service.

Maybe good food lousy management with the staff, not accomadating, very ridgid , refuse several requests for a regular menu. They insisted we take the tasting menu. A real bad experience. Sent a letter to Lydia in October of 2006 Today is March 21, 2007 still no PR respinse something like we are sorry etc. Good food does not a resturant make. As a tag ling after about 15 miniutes of trying to resolve the matter and being told our way or the highway, we chose the highway. One secnond later the manager comes back and changes his story. Is this brinkmanship or plain stupidy? There are plenty of great resturants in NYC that appreciate your busniess, patronize one of them. So long Lydia enjoy your TV show.

Every year my wife and i go with 2 other couples on valentines to a restaurant of our choice. It has to be top notch. We do a lot of research and choose carefully. This year we picked Felidia's. All 3 couples are huge Lidia fans and could not wait. This Valentine's Day there was a big ice storm but it did not keep us back. We were greeted warmly, seated promptly and served with much attention and great care. Emilgio was wonderful.
Lidia was there and made it a point to come and greet us as well as sign our cookbooks and take pictures. The food beyond great. I have gone to all the best in NYC and Felidia's is on the the top of my list. It is expensive but it was the first time our wives said it was worth every penny. Lidia is so classy with a wonderful smile that reflects the love she has for her food and her restaurant. DON"T LISTEN TO ANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS GO AND ENJOY

Having lived in Rome for a period combined with being a child of an Italian-born parent, I have become quite cynical regarding Italian cuisine outside of the homeland. However, Felidia did not disappoint and per norm, Lidia did make an appearance. I enjoyed several courses over a period of 4 hours and felt I could have stayed for 4 more. The service was impeccable and the unique cuisine delectable. You will not find anything "parmigiana" here.

I can't begin to express how much I loved the food at Felidia. Yes, it's expensive, but I think it's well worth it, especially for a special night out. We had the chicken liver trifolati (which is chicken liver served three ways). Served with polenta and fois gras. Unbelievably delicious and unique. We also had the grilled octopus, less exciting but good. And what makes this restaurant stand out is the outrageously good pasta- We had the Porcini stringozzi with mushrooms, rabbit, and black truffles. My eyes tear when I remember how divine that was. We also had the 30-yolk spaghettini with braised moulard duck. Also incredibly delicious. We simply had no room left for dessert. But we'll no doubt be back soon. Highly recommend this place.

The food was absolutely first-rate, the service formal yet friendly. Our bill for two with wine was $250 and worth every penny. Very special place with a romantic atmosphere. Highly, highly recommended.

I was utterly shocked to see so many negative reviews about this restaurant. I went online after I went there expecting everyone to be raving about it. Clearly many people writing these reviews have no idea what good food and excellent service consists of. I am a tough critic of food and have lived and dined in NYC for my entire life and this was one of the best restaurants I have been to here as well as in any other city for that matter.

The staff was so attentive, knowledgeable and eager to assist you in any way you desire. The food was nothing short of sensational and mouth watering. The menu is different and not the typical italian that most of these people writing negative comments are probably used to. If you have dull taste, this is not the place for you. Worth the money.

My family and I recently went for dinner at Felidia's and was deeply dissapointed. The food was VERY salty, and the service was atrocious and despicable. When my father is spending more then $500, we would have appreciated a more accomodating staff. There was also a very tall male waitor on the second floor that was absolutely rude. Don't they teach their staff how to pour water or wine? They also gave us the wrong check, TWICE. I have no idea why this is considered one of the nicer Italian Restaurants in the city. I would have had recieved better food and service from Sbarros.

I was happily surprised by my family for my bday to go to Felidia's. For those of you, who are fans of her show, I think you'll be surprised by the overall attitude of the service. This restaurant is not good for kids or groups. The tasting menu was good but for the price way too much pasta and few meat or seafood selections. The food was great. The service was poor. Although, some wait staff tried a little harder than others. When you pay that kind of money, you really want the whole experience. And, you don't get that!

My husband and I live in the neighborhood and went here for a special occasion. Although the food was top-notch, the service really needs work. We ordered a bottle of wine a few minutes after we were seated. After it did not arrive and we had started our meal, we inquired about it. A waiter looked me in the eye and said we did not order wine, as if to infer we were making this up. Apparently one of the other waiters had taken the wine order and had forgotten it. We did not mind the confusion, but I thought it was terrible that instead of apologizing, he was challenging us on ordering it in the first place. It would be nice if they didn't have such an attitude with their guests. If they were more gracious, dropping a few hundred dollars on dinner here would have been worth it.

I took my boyfriend to Felidia's for his birthday. It was wonderful. One word of caution: beware of the exploding price on the glass of champagne! I ordered a "glass of champagne" from the bar and although I enjoyed it immensely, IT COST $35.00! Yes, $35.00 for one glass of champagne. I could have killed that bartender when I knew there were many less pricey options. That was the only dark moment on the elegant evening. Oh, yes, the space is cramped but the food made us forget that our neighbors were sitting in our laps. Order the zuppa di pesce or the grilled octopus. Also, we had the pear and pecorino wedding pillows. Mmmmmmm (excuse me, having a moment of blissful recall). Just be careful when ordering champagne! Yes, we met Lidia and we discussed recipes. For a special occasion, I recommend Felidia's.

My family took my 82 year old mother to Felidia for her birthday. My mom is a big fan of Lidia, and we were delighted to find her in attendance. She graced our table with several visits, took a photo with my mom, and signed her menu. Mom was thrilled. The service was impeccable. The food was extraordinary. Great Italian food starts with fresh, local ingredients, and these were found in abundance at Felidia. Thank you, Lidia, for an enchanting, memorable evening.

The overall review is on target, but too understated. This restaurant is not cozy; it's packed, and noisy. While service is good; the food compared to what I've had in Italy (Rome, Milan, Florence) doesn't come close. Indeed, not even close to top American places in NYC, Chicago, LA and SF. Surprised that so much of the menu is "preped"- not cooked to order. Pasta is just ok. Way to many unimaginative "stewed" items; virtually nothing grilled or roasted. Plating is sloppy. One gets the impression that making money is the key philosopical ingredient, here. Celebrity and popularity don't add up to a high quality Italian experience.

Mediocre food covered in overpowering sauces. Were it not for the odd, overbearing staff, it might be passable.

When spending upwards of $200 for dinner for two, I expect better service. Upon entering the maitre d was the model of pomposity: " Can I HELP you?" After being shuffled to a cramped corner table, next to a peculiar pasta hotplate reheating station, we were confronted with at leat 4 different servers, including a very odd, severe woman who immediately read us the specials and rushed to take our orders (not even a cocktail order was taken). From initial seating through the dessert (we read our dessert menus, one with a large burn hole, and decided to go elsewhere) service was rushed, space was cramped and food was gimmicky.

A tourist trap for out of towners enamored of the namesake's show. Go elsewhere.

We were taken care of from the moment we walked in. The bartender was delightful, the wait staff was attentive, without being oversolicitous. The lobster pasta and sea bass were excellent. The food portions were abundant and I definitely left the restaurant satisfied. This was truly one of the better dining experiences I've had in New York.

Lots of hits or misses with Felidia. The maitre'd was very accomodating with a late member of our party. The service was attentive, but confusing with about three different people attending the table, not counting the busboys. Despite the attentive service, there was a feeling of being rushed through the meal. The courses weren't well paced. The pasta specials were awesome. The famed "wedding pillows" were overpowered by the citrus peel.

I went here with my wife for our wedding anniversary expecting good things.

At first everything looks great. The wait staff is courteous, the rooms are intimate and the menu looked great.

After we ordered my opinion changed. A bacala and string bean salad was flavorless and far too big to be an appetizer. It did have the distinction of reeking like bad fish though.

My sweetbreads, described as "crispy" by the waiter, were good but nothing special - and not crispy.

Finally, the lemon verbena panna cotta was glue-like and seemed to be missing the lemon verbena.

My wife's pasta dish was excellent and wine by the glass was good.

In the end, the $160 price tag simply was not worth it.

I'm a big fan of Lidia's, but in my mind, I didn't feel this restaurant really represented her cooking very well. The service was impeccable, the appetizers were delicious (mushroom polenta...to die for). But the entrees we ordered were very bland. I had to add salt and red pepper flakes before I could even taste my broccoli rabe & pasta dish. My dinner guest had to add salt to his sea bass. For my tastes, I think her Becco restaurant would be much better.

I have eaten at Felidia a few times, and have always found the menu to be interesting, the food excellent, and the service to be quite good. If you are obviously into conversation, the server will leave you alone. However, you won't be ignored if you need service.

The location isn't terrific, but that's a small criticism for a great restaurant. Reservations can be made up to a month in advance. Reservations are a must, but don't be surprised about not getting an excellent table at the last minute.

Frankly, I'm surprised at some of the bad reviews for Felidia. I urge you to take them with a grain of salt.

I'm generally pretty tolerable about where I'm seated, but this place upset even me. There seem to be open tables (probably in the nicer upstairs in fact); however, they sat us in the corner of the lower level next to where the waiters hangout and warm each pasta dish on a hot plate that comes from the kitchen to the dining room. Their chatter showed they were not as caring abou the restaurant as they wanted you to think they were. And the head waiter was rude. I had one great dish--pecorino and pear ravioli. My girlfriends pasta (lobster tomato sauce) was awful. The sauce was just oil with a minute amount of diced lobster and virtually no tomatos. Bread had potentitial, but was somewhat stale and everything else was medicore except the price was high

We had a Tuscan wine pairing dinner here and were floored. The wine was terrific, the food delicious and the service attentive yet fun. If you have been to Babbo's think; less stuffy waitstaff with the same lovely ambiance and non-dairy pastas. Best Restaurant when not on a budget. The new sommelier chose well matched wines for each dish with histories and explanations of each bottle. Highly recommeded and I will definitely be returning.

I find some of the previous ratings to be snobby and somewhat silly.

First, if you couldn't find anything to eat on Felidia's menu, you probably should not be dining at gourmet restaurants in NYC. Stick to Olive Garden.

The food at Felidia was imaginative, fun, and full of fresh, bright flavors. My mother and I had exceptional seafood dishes, fabulous homemade breads, and decadent desserts. We even got to see and talk to Lidia on our way out - all in all, an absolute treat and a half!!!

We were disappointed with the menu selections and the service.
The menu is very limited and my wife had trouble finding something that she wanted to eat. The food is prepared well and it is delicious.
Service was another matter. Maybe because we were there on a Monday. Our water glasses were empty and we had to ask for more wine, bread & butter. The bread came without butter & we waited unusually long for it to be served. I'd say Lydia needs to re-work the staff & selections.
