After 2 years of looking a decent place to cut my hair, I found the place.
I was sad and frustrated, all those fancy salons and they don't know how to cut fine, thing straight hair.
At Sam Brocato Salon, I found Chelsea Turner, SHE IS ABSOLUTELY SWEET, and took the time to understand what is going on with me in regard to my hair.

I will be back and recommend people for sure.
And I forgot to mentioned the price is very reasonable.

I have been on the search for a good colorist for years!! I finally hit the jackpot when my friend recommended I go to Mary. I get hightlights and they are exactly what I explained to her. She is young, and hip but down to earth like a normal person ( I hate when stylist have a "i'm better than you attitude") The whole staff was nice and the salon is huge for soho standards. All and all great experiance!!!!

This is my third time at the salon. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I am using Lisa, who is a master stylist. In addition to giving a fabulous cut, she listens to what you want. In addition, there are no airs here. The stylist does the wash, the cut, and the blowout. It's a beautiful place, with plenty of privacy, yet you don't feel isolated. Highly recommended.

First off, the price is half of all the other treatments. The salon was great, and I was lucky enough to have the owner, Sam Brocato, assist in on the treatment. The treatment, Curl Interrupted, is more of a super conditioning treatment with a relaxer. I just washed my hair today, and it is much less frizzy. Sam was fairly conservative on the treatment. He told the stylist to not treat the top half of my hair since I have hi-lites. He was very cautious in using the treatment on the top half of my hair, since he thought it would cause breakage . So he conditioned the top part and applied the full treatment to the bottom half. As far as what I can tell with my hair, it does seem much softer. I washed my hair, and it tried differently. Compared to other treatments, I think Curl Interrupted is less aggressive than the Japanese and the Brazilian. I still have wave but my hair does not look like a mushroom cloud.
I would say that this is a great conditioning treatment that relaxes the curl, but does not make the hair straight. I like the wave in my hair, so I will probably go back. With the treatment, the salon also gives for free the shampoo, conditioner, and moisture treatment.

I recently discovered Joy La Rosa at the Sam Brocato Salon when desperately seeking a chic, economically priced haircut. A coworker recommended me to Joy, whose cuts are pro-rated as she's new in town and thus considered "new talent" at this up and coming salon to the stars. What a steal! She gave my fine, thinning, wavy hair the perfect vintage-inspired bob. She cut my bangs according to the specific slope of my scalp- the same scalp she gave an exquisite massage to during my wash. In the past, I'd been texturized (aka: thinned!) to death by various fancy-pants stylists in the city. Finally I have the body, thickness and real sass that I want.

I have now gone to Joy for two cuts and two blow outs (also really fierce!). I liked her so much I sent my boyfriend. It was as though Joy was sending me a love letter through my man's hair- the perfect pseudo-hipster meets Mad Men cut. He, in turn, sent his good buddy, who now sports a wholly unique Joy-devised John Lennon-esque crop. She really listens to what you want and gets a sense of your personal style before pulling out the sheers. After seeing her work on many a friend's head, I wholeheartedly put my faith in Joy. Go now while she's still inexpensive; her cuts are truly priceless!

DOPE! I love this hair salon. It has a super laid back comfortable vibe, where you can still expect to receive all of the special treatment a Soho salon would offer. All the fun without the pretense. My FAVORITE thing about this place is my crazy talented stylist - Joy. If you have fine hair - she's your girl. She cuts extra volume into your hair - it's sort of a miracle. My hair feels fuller - like there is somehow more of it now. I get bounce and movement too, which is pretty amazing for fine/limp hair. She isn't scared to do something fun, which has led to some of my most flattering cuts. She recently cut a seriously heavy bang on me....I am getting compliments from every direction. People adore it. That's Joy - she creates miracles! They're at a bargain price too. A cut with her is only $55....um whaaaa! She gives you the hair you would pay any amount for. Gotta check her out!

I made an appointment with Leah and got an amazing cut for only $65! She was very professional and personable, when considering the location and hig end address(SoHo) you'd expect an intimidating experience.
Lead offered tips on how to blow dry my hair and suggested some styling techniques and even gave me a personal kit of shampoo and conditioner as a parting gift. The next time I am in NYC I will definitely return, Leah is an asset to this salon!

Just got a cut with Leah - the best cut ever. Highly recommend her. She is highly professional, gives you great advice, knows what she is doing, is fast and a pleasant person - what can I say more? Oh yes, that the cut was the least expensive I had in years...
Loved the whole experience. This is definitely going to be my salon in NYC.

found salon from a friend and loved the experiance. I got a cut with sara and she was so sweet and helped me figure out what would work best with me and my crazy lifestyle , and the summer weather. I had my highlights done with mary and she gave me the best highlights I have ever had I get compliments daily! She was also really nice and fun as well. All and all great experiance, one small downfall is they are going through rennovations so the bathhroom is a little unfinished and some of the floors, but they assured me that they will be done soon.

Heard about this place through the grapevine and thought I'd give it a shot. I had a great haircut with Sarah- she listened and gave me just what I was looking for- which hasn't been my experience at other (some very notable high end) salons in the area.
Had such a great experience that I thought I'd come back for a glaze and a few highlights with Mary- again, she also listened to what I was looking for and came up with a color that was perfect- me only better. I've never gotten so many compliments! Great colorist, fun personality!

Went to Sam Brocato after I came across the salon on Citysearch while looking for a GOOD, inexpensive haircut. I booked "new talent" at Sam Brocato and got a fantastic haircut with Leah! Two weeks later and the long layers are growing out perfectly - just what I was looking for. Leah has a new dedicated client with me! On top of that, the salon is large, clean, and has a great vibe all around.

I love Sam Brocato salon, but I have been a long time customer of Bushi, as his skills are incomparable to many stylists. Bushi actually just opened up his own lovely salon very recently! His salon is called Salon Musa. Definitely one of the best in Soho NY!

I went to the salon by chance after a horrible color mishap at a nearby salon :/ . I went to Mary and she handled my horrible hair with grace and didnt make the fact that my "highlights" , were less than perfect. She worked wonders and I have had so many compliments since!! And she has a funny quirky flavor to her!!

Fairly new to NY from Boston, I had been trying to find just the right salon- a place I could get a haircut that had a relaxing and comfortable environment with excellent talent, but somewhere below the $300 dollar price point.

After asking several friends, and randomly searching for hair salons in the downtown area, I came across the 2010 NY Magazine's review of this salon and thought I'd give it a go...and it was an EXCELLENT FIND.

Cool space, not pretentious or too over the top as I've experienced in Boston and NY. Friendly staff to greet and assist you to a changing facility and coat area- also salon offers a wide array of refreshments , and the pre-wash massage is great!

Jiwon was excellent. I am a busy individual and don't have the time or patience to try anything trendy, short or cutting edge (However- I know many of the stylists here are cable of executing those types of cuts, which almost does make me want to try something new!)

Jiwon still listened to my wishes and had me leaving the salon with my long hair in tact, but in much better shape. The cut left my hair much more polished and full of life, which is often hard to achieve when your hair is long. She was not pushy with her own agenda and I will definitely come back to her in the future. I would even trust her to cut my hair if I did try something radically different. I was amazed at her precision and expertise.

Overall an A experience and I look forward to coming back in the future.

I used a groupon to go here and I think its the best groupon success story I have! I made an appointment with Lisa who is just amazing. She talked to me in length about my hair and how I wear it and what I'm looking for...we then proceeded to get my hair washed which in itself was a great experience. My haircut came out looking fabulous! I didnt even get anything too edgy or drastic...but all my friends were shocked at how good my hair looked. Lisa taught me how to style my hair and then showed me a few products that they sell that could work for me. I'm very wary about buying hair products because I dont feel they do what they should. She gave me a few samples and OH MY GOD these products are mind blowing! Apparantly Sam Brocato himself creates these products and they are truely the best products ive ever tried. Ask about the hair clay...you wont regret it! and if you have curly or wavy hair, use their curl karma shampoo/conditioner/styling cream. I swear by it. I have literally hooked all of my friends onto this salon...or at least onto their products. Buying that Groupon was the best thing I ever did! lol

I just moved from California and have yet to find a New York salon to get my hair done. I initially went to the Salon because there was a Groupon and I thought I'd check it out for the price, but I went and I loved the whole experience. The guy at the check-in desk was super nice and I loved Sarah who did my hair. She spent a good amount of time chatting with me about what I wanted and was willing to go super edgy if I wanted but I couldn't bring myself to do it so we agreed on a slightly less wild 'do and the end result made me really happy.

She even gave me tips on how to do my hair myself at home and wasn't pushy about selling any products and I am sure that I'll be coming here again. They offer refreshments, and the space despite going through renovations is still perfectly nice and it's definitely a find.

they listen to you, honestly ask about what you want and make their recommendations according to your hair type and face shape. On top of their professionalism, they are very amiable without over doing it and they pamper you from beginning to end. I had the nicest interaction with one of their young former stylist.
i highly recommend this place, it is the most amazing rice quality ratio i have ever found and heard of. plus their salon is a vey well-thought architectural place.

Tried the salon today for first time with a Groupon deal. When I called to book and told them my hair type, I was recommended two stylists in particular. Chose one, showed up today, and with but a short consult, ended up with one of the best haircuts I've had in years (and I've paid a pretty penny for some upscale salons in NYC). Lisa listened, then promptly got down to business. Oh, didn't even mention the brief intro head and shoulder massage, the stimulating hair mask... FABULOUS haircut and great experience. I'll be back! (Also, the staff there were genuinely friendly: no attitude? in a Soho salon? Even Sam's [proprietor's] wife was on hand and was warm and friendly. Free samples, warm tea: now I'm just rambling about all the good stuff. Highly recommend!

Jeremy cut my curly hair, and it has never looked better. He has a special method, used by all hair stylists here, whereby cuts are suited to the shape of your skull. My curly hair falls really nicely, the layers are amazing. He is so reasonably priced too, $65.

I also had the Keratin straightening treatment, which will be available in January, and it has defrizzed and silkened my hair tremendously. My curls are smoother and better defined.

Truly an amazing salon.

Sam Brocato is a salon where I finally felt comfortable to cut my hair. I met with Bushi earlier today and explained to him that I wanted to cut my hair short but I was afraid. He reassured me that short hair would look great and my cut came out AMAZING! I would highly recommend Bushi and the salon to anyone. The service was amazing and staff was extremely friendly!!

When I called the salon, I requested someone who knew about curly hair. I really am never happy with my hair. Yesterday, Lisa Lord did my hair. She was very friendly, gregarious, and easy going. She took time to talk to me about my hair, and really seemed to know what she was doing and made me completely comfortable and hopeful that *this* cut would be different than previous cuts. I have yet to wash my hair, but I doubt that when I do tonight, I will be disappointed.

Generally the price would be 128 for a hair cut with her. I had a groupon so the salon was very affordable for me this time. For NYC, 128 is still a pretty good price for a good hair cut in a nice salon, I think. I would definitely go back to see her (if I can afford it!)

Just found out about this salon and went in on the recommendation of a friend for a total makeover. I'm so glad I did, because I LOVE this place! From the front desk to every staff member I encountered - all were friendly and accommodating. I felt relaxed and at ease the entire time. And, best of all, I received a fabulous haircut and hair color for which I've received numerous compliments. I can honestly say that I've never been happier with a salon. I highly recommend!

The hair dressers have a following and are well practiced but the place is in a basement and smells very strongly like sewage.

From start to finish I was made to feel at home. From the front desk to my colorist, Ann, to meeting Mr. Brocato as I was leaving. It is the warmest, friendliest salon you could ever find in New York. My color was flawless and I have received so many compliments. I can't wait to go back! They are consummate professionals and better yet, know how to treat their clients. This was the best salon experience I have ever had.

The uniqueness of this salon is in its unwavering attention to what the client really wants and needs. I have seen several stylists and colorists there (a function of schedule, not dissatisfaction) and every one of them has been terrific. The cuts here last a long time; my pedicure lasts three weeks or more. The little perks the salon offers are also lovely - computers available while you wait, fresh fruit, brownies, thoughtfully selected magazines, occasional give-away contests and special events, and staff who remember who you are and what you like. And I appreciate that there does not seem to be a distinction between the service that is offered celebrities and other customers - everyone is treated well here. Warm, competent, fun all at once - it's really New York at its best!

Computers available for Clients' use. Nice music. Refreshments and treats provided. And as many ladies know who get their hair colored and cut, it could be a time-consuming process but at Sam Brocato Salon, their process is seamless (from the colorist to the hair stylist) - never a wait. I LOVE this place !

Lisa gave me one of the best haircuts I have ever had.

No matter what i do my hair looks good, mainly because the bangs I have are amazing. I feel and look younger and have had more younger men comment on my hair than I ever had.

Last week, I had extensions put in my hair for the third time at Sam Brocato. After being fed up at looking at other women?s beautiful heads of hair day in and day out, I booked a consultation with Jason Wilkerson for extensions last summer. I?ve always had to wear my hair up because I had such little hair and it always looked stringy and thin. Without sounding vain, I had major self esteem issues as a result of my hair. I have bought every hair thickening product marketed but always resorted to putting my hair back up in a ponytail because I was embarrassed at the little amount of hair I had . In the consultation, Jason examined my head / hair to ensure I was a good candidate for the extensions (thankfully, I was). He took the time to patiently answer my many, many questions and explained how to care for the extensions. I went back a week later and after about 1.5 hours, I emerged from the salon with what a full head of hair.

For the first time in my life, I don?t cringe when I am getting ready in the morning and doing my hair. Thanks to Jason, I can wear my hair down without feeling self conscious. I?ve had other girlfriends who have had extensions but you could tell as the stylist did a poor job putting them in. In contrast, no one has ever suspected I have had extensions. I?ve received numerous compliments on my hair (most of my friends have never seen me with my hair down) and feel great about how it looks. Gone are the days of looking longingly at other women?s heads of hair.

If you?re feeling self conscious of your thin hair or even just want a little thickening, I highly recommend booking a consultation with Jason. He?s sensitive to women?s relationship to their looks / hair and will be honest with you about what he can do for you. I can genuinely say that I have never felt better about myself, I owe a lot of that to Jason.

I recently visited the Sam Brocato Salon for Great Lengths hair extensions with Jason after extensive research. I'd been dying to have extensions put in my hair for years but was never ready to make the financial commitment that comes with such a process. I'd researched all different types of extensions and learned that Great Lengths is the most natural looking and best for your hair, leaving NO damage upon removal. While the service is on the pricey side, it is WELL worth it. I had a consultation with Great Lengths specialist, Jason Wilkerson, before the big day. He talked me through the entire process and chose the correct shades of hair to blend into mine. The hair was ordered and it shipped within days, so I was able to have the extensions put in just a few days after my consultation. I wanted to add several inches of length to my hair, as well as thickness, since my hair has always been fine, stringy and lacking body. Great Lengths has transformed my hair. Not only is it long, but it is SOOO thick and natural looking. The entire process took around 3 hours. Jason was so quick, precise, and delightful! He happens to have an impressive celebrity clientele (who knew!), and I believe he is the best kept secret in New York City. While I thought the process would be long and grueling, it was completely painless. I had a relaxing time at the salon with the friendly, professional, and accommodating staff. I've had my extensions for about a month now and I'm obsessed! The upkeep is fairly simple--my daily wash/condition and blowdry is the same, now I just have to brush my hair out a few times a day to prevent matting. Instead of dreading doing my hair in the morning, I'm actually excited to get up and do it. My hair even looks great in a ponytail. I've never received more compliments in my life. Thanks to Jason, I will never have to live with thin hair again! My Great Lengths have changed my Life!

I had a great experience at Sam Brocato recently. Jeremy was a pleasure and gave a great, simple cut. When I first walked in they offered me a drink and, while I declined, I noticed one of the options was wine - nice touch!

The room itself is very spacious which allowed this cramped New Yorker to sit back, relax and breathe!

I would definitely recommend this salon.

I had been stalling to switch hair salons into NYC since I moved here a few years ago and continued to go out to NJ to get my hair done b/c of the ridiculous prices salons charge here but finally gave in and was recommended I go here by a couple friends - I have to say now I have finally found my NYC salon :)

I first checked the website - which is so user friendly and you can even book your appointment online which I loved - and the prices are so reasonable!!! I get a partial highlight and cut every time and it wasn't that much more expensive than my old place. I was recommended to go to Ann for my color and Sarah for my cut. Both of them were great! They made me feel so comfortable and welcome to the salon and actually listened to what I was saying about what I wanted to achieve.
From the internet access while you wait, to the wine, and then the neck massage to start off with, everything is well worth it.
Sarah also suggested I use some new shampoos and conditioners -which I purchased I and they were also VERY reasonable ($15 each). She even gave me a sample of something else we had been talking about to try. I also happend to meet Sam and his wife while I was there and they are both very pleasant people and not uptight or pretentious at all - like some salon owners.
Basically - this was a great experience - from booking to walking out of the salon. Quick tip - make your appointment for a week day or night - when the salon is slower than the weekend so you can really enjoy it - mine was on a Tuesday nigth and there were maybe 4 other people there and it was great to relax.

Take my advice if your looking for an amazing haircut and a really cool salon don't hesitate to go here!!

I was recommended to to this salon from a friend, and it was AMAZING. My hair was about halfway down my back and I wanted to chop it off, and I'm glad I did! I met with Sam Brocato himself and he recommended a stylist to me since I had never been before. Sarah was sweet and nice. She ACTUALLY listened, gave me advice and then gave me the best haircut ever! My hair is now chin length, cut about 10inches total, and so easy to maintain! Everyone has been asking me where I got my hair cut and I suggest everyone try this salon once, they treat you like superstars with wine, internet, massage and free travel size samples! I will be back no doubt!

I followed Matthew James from his old salon to Oscar Bond because its a fantastic cut! I never worried much about my cut (only color), but now i'm hooked. I've been stopped on the street about where I get my hair done several times. Even when I dont have to time to dry it, it still looks great. I'd follow him to Kansas...

Wendy is a great hair colorist, so I continue to come back here, even though the prices just recently went up about 20% for a hair coloring! I like the space and the majority of people are v. nice. However, my reservations are as follows-
there is one short, brunette, sullen girl who sometimes works as a receptionist, and they should fire her if they haven't yet, she has an unfriendly and unhelpful attitude and projects a bad image for the place.
There was one junior hair colorist I used once when Wendy was not available and she did a lousy job of covering my roots- so much so that I returned for a redo (which was graciously done for free- but it was a pain to come back down).
Sometimes it takes a while for someone to be free to dry my hair after the coloring is done (Wendy doesn't do it herself) and last time it took so long that I finally did it myself because it was making me late. In short, go for Wendy and be happy if you get great service everywhere else (50/50 chance you will).
