Great little hangout

by Kathy S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 252

There are a lot of other places with better food, but this place has a neat feel with open beam ceilings and pretty wood furniture making a comfortable place to relax with friends and drink an Irish ale.

Irish gem

by Melissa W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,048

Failite (pronounced Falsha) Irish Whiskey Bar is a rare find, an Irish pub that really feels like a pub in Ireland. The first floor has a roaring fireplace, a wattle and daub ceiling, and a beautiful roughhewn wooden bar. The friendly bartenders welcome you with a smile and a cold pint. Failte is also a great place to sample Irish whiskeys.

My favorite bar in NYC

by jackw568

I have been going to Failte since I moved into the area six months ago and it has quickly become my favorite bar in NY. The crowd and bartenders are a lot of fun. The place has a great vibe and the best Guinness around.

Pros: fun crowd, has a pool table, reasonably priced drinks, fireplace

Razor sharp piece of glass in my beer. Bartender was unbelievably rude about it.

by chriswu000

I almost died drinking here. I ordered a round of drinks here and when I took a sip I felt something in my mouth. When I took it out, it was a thin razor sharp inch and a half shard of glass. If I had swallowed, or gone in my mouth sideways, I would have been in serious trouble. When I took it to the bartender, he asked me where it came from. I said I didnt know, and he pointed to the glass (where it had apparently chipped off) and continued to look at me, like I had something to do with it. I just shrugged, not sure what he wanted from me. I'm the one that almost drank it. At that point I said I didn't think I should have to pay for the round ($20) and he said, "now you want a free round, for what?". I said, I could have died if I drank this shard of glass. He said, "are you kidding me?" I said, no, I'm not kidding, I could have died. He said, "f--- you, you could have died". At that point I asked for my card back, signed it with 0 tip. When I talked to AMEX today to dispute my charge, they said there was a $24 hold on the card. I'm still waiting to see if that is just a hold, or if the guy is actually going to give himself a $4 tip that I did not write in. I don't feel they are entitled to charge me for drinks I could have died from. I certainly don't think they should tell a customer to go f--- themselves. I've filed a complaint with the city about the glass.

Pros: pool table

Cons: razor sharp glass in beer. Bartender who thinks its not a big deal.

Always fun

by Cheerios1000

I wouldn't call myself a "regular" however I'm always treated like one at Failte. The drinks are always good and they are great at keeping a consistent "buy-back" ratio. I usually meet friends for happy hour and then end up staying late into the night. They also have a pool table which you can always get a game on. Lately they've been having trivia nights on Thursday's with prizes and a monthly comedy night. It seems that there's always something happening. I heard they might start having live music as well...... Do it! See you at the bar!

Pros: Good buy-backs

Cons: Good buy-backs :)

Consistently Enjoyable

by grtctyskr

Failte is great! The service is always fast and friendly. The drafts are poured well and the place always seems full of neighborhood friends. I love going there on my way out for the night, and sometimes on the way home. It's a cool and comfortable place to relax and unwind after work. My friends and I went to trivia one Thursday night and had a great time -- Failte also has the best burger in the neighborhood!

Pros: great atmosphere, perfect NYC Irish pub feel

Cons: not enough tables

Private Parties are the best at Failte!

by ladynyc

I hosted my birthday party at Failte and it was really great. My friends are still talking about how cool it was to have the 2nd floor lounge to ourselves. I got an open bar package that seemed inexpensive compared to how much we all drank! The music was upbeat and had everyone dancing, which may have been fueled by the open bar, but who's asking, right?! Long story into a few words: Failte is my new spot! Actually, the reason I chose Failte is the great night I ended up having there in my search for the perfect place for my birthday party. My friend and I laughed for hours with the bartender and a couple of guys at the bar. Getting up for work that Thursday was painful, but I'd do it again in a second. Failte this weekend anyone?!

Pros: perfect for drinks with one friend or 30 friends, great pub atmosphere, fun bartenders

Cons: While the menu can be just what you need at a certain time in the night, it's not very healthy.

SO MUCH FUN, MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE BACK AT CAMP!

by zs314

If you are looking to plan a reunion then this is the place! Its bartenders counsel you through the many different varieties of Irish whiskey and the cozy feel reminds you of a warm Berkshire night. Many report sharing a moment behind the pool table located towards the back of the bar which is thankfully where the counselors can't see you. This is not exactly the place to go if you are looking to feast your eyes on celebrities, but I could swear that I saw Bob and Barbra the last time I was there! Wild... I know.

This is a place that you will frequent often

by smolkaco

I always have the greatest time there. The bartenders combination of women and men are fun and lively. The bar has a warm cottage feel unlike most of the nyc bar. It has a lot of character and a comfortable feel to it. two floors the upstairs has a great lounge and is open on its more busy nights and downstairs has a live DJ on the weekends too. Pool table in the rear.

Pros: Great bar to have friends meet at for a drink or two before or after the movies across the street

Cons: none

greedy and poor customer service

by jiffy_always

this place is the WORST!!! DO NOT GO HERE!! CONTRARY TO THESE OTHER REVIEWS (WHICH ARE IN MY OPINION, FICTICIOUS!, THIS PLACE IS A RIPOFF!. THE AMBIEANCE IS OK BUT THATS WHERE IT ENDS. THE STAFF ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN YOUR MONEY AND GETTING A FREE DRINK IS ALMOST OUTTA THE QUESTION, UNLESS U SPEND OVER $1000!! THE FOOD I ORDERED WAS BURNT AND CHARRED AND IT TOOK AN HOUR AND A HALF ALMOST BEFORE I GOT IT! I WONT EVEN MENTION THE RESTROOMS..WELL IF U LIKE THAT STALE BEER AND URINE SMELL THEN GO FOR IT! AND ON TOP OF ALL THAT THE BARSTAFF ARE BEEN TOLD TO ONLY GIVE U HALF A SHOT WHEN U ORDER A SHOT! I MEAN COME OOOOON! FILL UP MY DRINK DAMMIT! I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN HERE AGAIN AND MY ONLY ADVICE TO U ALL IS.....ENTER AT UR OWN RISK!!!!

Pros: THE DOOR OUT!!

Cons: PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING

Went there with a bunch of friends with the intention of seeing the town, stayed there all night with my friend Jack D, listening to some great music and had a blast! Definitely a great spot to hang out, i'll be making another appearence there very soon!

My Home

by tnj203

I moved up the street about a month ago and immediately began shopping around for a great weekday place to chill...I went to several bars, but realized Failte's was the best. Foxy is one of the best bartenders around and the weekday crowd is chill and fun. Its a bit overcrowded on a weekend...but if that's your thing well...

It comes down to this...great atmoshpere, Foxy and Stew are the best, and chill people...what more could you ask for!!!

Pros: cute Irish bartenders, good music, great atmosphere

Cons: crowded on weekends

Failte is super cozy. It has a relaxed atmosphere, and great music. It's perfect to meet friends, and avoid the typical frat boy scene on Third Avenue.

The BEST Irish bar in NY

by servicemojo

A night to remember! Had my boyfriends birthday party there in the private room upstairs and could not possibly have had a better night. The open bar price was very reasonable and the food was excellent. The DJ music was a lot of fun and all my guests loved the room. I will be back.

Pros: Great Bartenders, Fun Vibe, Reasonable Prices

Regretfully

by nac3

It was most unfortunate that a place with such incredible ambiance could employ a staff who would exploit its heavily-spending patrons and never buy drinks back, no matter how much money was spent, and a manger who may not understand the meaning of graciousness.

Pros: Ambiance

Cons: , poor custmr relations, Too earning oriented

Great Bar

by fdr10016

I went there last Saturday night and this has to be the best Irish Bar in New York. My company had a Christmas party in the upstairs room and everything turned out great. After the party we went to the bar on the main floor and had a really good time. The music was hopping, the bar has a great atmosphere with an open fireplace. I would highly recommend Failte Irish Whiskey Bar for a great night on the town.

Pros: Great Bar, Very Friendly Staff, Great Atmosphere
