Ratings_icons Waiting to exhale - Best Buy could be the Worst Buy EVER

Anonymous

Following was posted to the Internet today. I am prepared to revise this posting if a satisfactory response is received from Best Buy's customer care.

I purchased the Stiletto 2 Sat radio for my son's birthday from bestbuy on December 9th 2007. 1st of all it was not the best buy. It costs 20% more than I could have gotten it for at most online vendors. I was going to buy from Amazon, but I paid more from Best Buy because I wanted to treat my son to a satellite radio 'advanced' installation from the Geek Squad and the delivery was guaranteed to be received before my son's birthday December 14th.

I was going to order from Best Buy's website, but it didn't specify if the install required you to also buy a kit or if it was included in the $79 price. Big mistake. The gal who answered told me that the kit was included and she would call the Geek squad and register the order so that installation would be expedited. What a load of malarky. The offer on their website offered a discount on the sirius satellite radio service contract, more on this later.

The radio arrived via ups, however to my chagrin the geek squad validation card was sent by post office and didn't arrive until almost one week past my son's birthday. As to the discount on the sirius satellite radio service contract, it never came.

It gets worse. I called the local store in Westbury NY and was given three options. 1) get store address, 2) get a salesperson, 3) get geeksquad apptmt. When you select 3 no one answers. I redialed and selected 2 for a salesperson. They picked up relatively quickly. I asked if the geeks had gone home for the day. The salesperson replied, no their just busy with other customers and put me through the extension that just rings forever.

Turns out there are two types of installation. You can make an 'inhome' apptmt, which costs more (note they never offered me any alternatives when I placed the original order), or you can go down to the store and wait in line and take your chances that some geek can pull themselves away from serving other customers to do the installation that you paid for.

So far, I've contacted sirius satellite radio, and they offered a lifetime contract for $400. Good deal, but I didn't get any promised discount for buying the radio from BestBuy. Sirius said that they would credit the amount once I get the coupon. I tried calling Best Buy's main toll free number to speak with a CSR, but was left on hold "due to substantial call volume" for over a half hour. Then suddenly inexplicably, the phone disconnected.

As for the Radio, my son's been able to load up MP3's, but the reception has been terrible. He can't get the signal from the sirius satellite radio service to validate his radio even with the home antenna kit that I also purchased from Best Buy. I did get the charge on my credit card for the radio, The home kit, the install, and the sirius satellite radio service contract.

If I wanted to limit my son's options to uploading MP3's I would have stuck with getting him an iPod Touch. At least Apple does what they promise.

It's Xmas season. So maybe BB deserves a break, but I am extremely disappointed and from my perspective, Best Buy could be the worst buy ever.

I believe in giving people a chance to redeem themselves, so I am going to send this post to them along with my contact information.

We took our computer in for repair on 5/27/00. It was sent up to their computer repair facility in another state. There it sat for over 40 days. Why? Because "since you have the service plan, we need to fix then computer ourselves instead of sending it to the manufacturer. However, we cannot order the parts (CD ROM drive and card) because we need to get a part number, then we need to enter that number into our computer system so we can order it. We have no idea how long it will take and we are working on it." Day afer day, I got the same story. Then, miracles of all miracles I call last Friday and "yes ma'am! They just now finished fixing your computer and it's back on it's way to you!" WHAT A JOKE! We pick it up today and the only thing stated on the service repair ticket was "maintenance cleaning". Of course we questioned this and it was like "I don't know....dah". Anyways, we get the computer home and IT WAS NOT FIXED AT ALL!
Meanwhile we were without a computer for 40 days, all for nothing! Tomorrow I will try to get to the bottom of this, and even suggest they get a repair person out to my house, or even wait until those parts come in (where I live) and maybe it'll be fixed?!? After reading about everyone's terrible experience with this company, I am sorry I ever bought merchandise from them, and never will again. Oh, and I will definately cancel my service plan--you know the one that "covers all repairs, even if your little ones spill coke on it". Yeah right!

Ratings_icons Great Store, Great Staff

This Best Buy, located on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown, is a large store with an enormous selection. The Geek Squad in particular is extremely friendly and helpful. They are genuinely interested in helping you out with your computer problems.

Other staff members, especially managers, are terrific. If you have a problem in this store, do not hesitate to bring it to someone attention. They will take care of you.

The parking lot is large, but this store is PACKED during the holidays. You might be hard-pressed to find a spot during peak hours.

PROS: great staff, large selection, clean
CONS: sometimes hard to find a parking spot
