They advertise half price Cocktails to the tourists at happy hour.
Sign board earlier in the day had $5-7 dollar cocktails.
When the check arrives they charged $12 for a puny weak Margarita. When I questioned the price with the hostess she pretended to not speak English, then the manager came over with a table card (not to be seen on any tables where the customers were) that showed the price at $12. WHAT A SETUP!
DO NOT GO THERE! THEY ARE A RIP OFF!
The food was bland - My Salmon with Sundried tomatoes had about 2oz of Fish with big hunks of rubbery tomato. No kidding 2 inch square piece of bubble gum texture bland tomato, in a dried out sauce. Probably had been sitting under a heat lamp for awhile. SERVICE - they delivered our salads and two minutes later the entrees. My wife's penne pasta with vodka tomato sauce also was dried out with no flavor. We would have been better off with a can of junk from a store. A waste of time and money. TOO BAD THEY PREY ON THE TOURISTS. WE will never eat there again!!

We stopped there because it was so big with inside and outside "service". What a big mistake. The hostess was friendly enough but it took a while for our orders to be placed then I received what looked to be, a dirty glass! I ordered fish and chips. The fish, (Cod) has no seasonings, it was floured and fried in oil that was too hot thus some of the fish had runny flour mix(??). The fried were cold. My son had chick which was cooked in hot sauce??. It was a real mess and just a tourist trap. If you want well cooked food don't go there.

Pros: Outside seating

Cons: Slow service and baaaaadddd food

I am not one to write reviews, but I felt it important to warn others about this s***hole.

THE FOOD IS AWFUL! WAIT SERVICE IS USELESS! THIS IS AN OVER-PRICED TOURIST TRAP! IN A WORD: SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME AND DON'T EAT HERE!!
As my husband so aptly put it as he warned someone who was about to enter: "A Filet O'Fish from McDonald's is several steps up the rung."
The calamari was soggy and the mashed potatoes where not "real" - they were flakes; you would think you would get real potatoes for an entree that cost $18.
The most disgusting thing I witnessed: A custodian left the bathrooms after mopping with a string mop and then carried that string mop over his shoulder swaying to the breeze through the restaurant where people were eating. GROSS!
BEWARE: If you do wind up eating here, THEY ADD A 35% TIP TO THE BILL!!! (WHAT?? For a party of 3?)
DO NOT RE-TIP; in fact, feel free to lower it for the crappy food, filthy and disgusting health code violations and non-existent waiter activity.

I, like many other reviewers here, was fooled into coming here because of the location. The nice outdoor seating in front of the Sea Port was tempting. I always see people eating there when I'm in the area, so I figure the food had to be good too. I couldn't have been more wrong.
I ordered their "special" 18oz steak. My girl ordered the so called "Paella". Our appetizer was some type of shrimp dish. The appetizer which cost $14, had 4 small shrimp. The paella was soggy, cold and the seafood in it tasted like it was clearly frozen for ages, not even close to fresh. The steak they brought me was TINY, after I complained, they brought out a bigger one but it was still nowhere near 18oz and definitely not worth the $24. The service was ok, but we still did not leave their 20% gratuity. For $87, we got the most sub-par food we've ever had at a restaurant. This place clearly stays in business thanks to it's location. Stay away! Go to "Red" instead, it's much better and has a terrace too.

Pros: Location

Cons: Awful food, very expensive for what it is

Little to say. The food is terrible. Taste like it came just out of a can. Service is lazy. This is the tipical turist trap. Avoid, avoid, avoid at all cost!

We were down at the Seaport to see the waterfalls and needed a place to have dinner. We chose Il Porto for the terrace and were seated quickly. I had the steak which was nice and my wife had the paella, which was better than expected. The seafood was fresh and the flavor authentic. We enjoyed the live entertainment and the kids loved the desserts. Overall, we had fun!

I had a very nice dinner at Il Porto. The terrace is lovely for people watching and my waiter was charming and professional, and took care of all our needs quickly. The special pasta of the day was very nice and overall my friend and I had a very nice dining experience. It was also nice to have dinner with live music playing. The guitar player was great. We will be back.

This was the worst place I've been to in NYC - and I've been to quite a few. Saying the service is bad is an understatement. The waiter finally showed to take our orders and then disappeared. The drinks came and we sat and sat. The waiter finally came over and asked us if we would like anything else - dessert? We asked for our dinner - our mistake. The pasta was cold and undercooked. The eggs were over cooked and the salad - which should have been a main dish for the price was tiny.

Oh and they add the tip on to the bill - which I was able to get backed off. Hope this helps at least one person avoid a bad experience!!

Cons: Everything else about this place is a con.

Passed this restaurant on the way to the mall down at the Seaport, and decided to go there with my boyfriend to sit outside, people watch and have a bite to eat. The girls at the front were very nice, and we only had to wait about 5 mins for a table outside. Once seated we were given bread, and water, waiter came and took our order....(so far so good).
Tick tock, tick tock.....A half hour later we still did not have our appetizer, so my boyfriend called over the nearest waiter/busboy and said 'Excuse me, can you get our waiter please?' So the guy says 'Well, I see him inside, he's busy though'......what? busy? Both my boyfriend and I are not very confrontational, but we were hungry damn it! Finally the waiter comes over and seems perplexed that were were inquiring about the wearabouts of our appetizers. He didn't even remember that we ordered any, and then looked into the restaurant and said 'Oh yes, the clams...I see them' He walked away.....tick tock, tick tock.....5 more minutes go by, and we decided to get up and walk out. As we left we informed the girls of our experience, and went over to the nearest hot dog stand, and upon reading these other reviews on here, I think we made the right decision (economically and taste wise).
I do not recommend this place considering that there are a couple of other cute little non-touristy places right around the corner (in addition to the hot dogs for 2 bucks each by the pier).

This restauant is a tourist-trap extraordinaire. Right at the entrance to Seaport, it entices you with its convenient location. DON'T BE FOOLED. The food was TERRIBLE. My boyfriend and I each ordered Italian food that was the worst we had ever eaten. The Spaghetti was overcooked and the clams were so chewy that I couldn't even swallow them. Service was very slow, despite the fact that the restaurant was practically empty. A terrible plate of greasy spaghetti ran us $16 not including tax or the 20% gratuity that they automatically added to our party of two. The only redeeming part of this experience was that the waiter politely removed my meal since I had eaten only one bite before deciding that this dish wasn't worth the calories.

After 5 minutes wioth out someone taking our drink order, our drinks came and the red wine was luke warm. we sent the wine back and when they brought a "new" glass of wine was shaken over ice in a cocktail shaker. Food was aweful 45 minutes after we ordered. Service was the worst i have ever encountered. the manager tired to remedy by knocking off 1 drink and one meal. they include tip on the bill which is good since no one in thier right mind would leave a gratuity after that meal. we didnt even finish our food before we spoke to the manager and got the hell out of dodge and refused to pay. DONT go to this restaurant. Look at all reviews on this site and other and you will find that this "restaurant" is nothing but low grade dog food which is merely in service because of tourists.

Not worth recommending. On a Saturday evening, the restaurant ran out of calamari, shrimp and provided only ussels in their Fruta De Mare dish - some without musscels.

If your looking for a place to sip some coffee and watch people go bye, this is a great restaurant. but if you like to eat, this place is terrible. The service is nice on entry but when seated the waiter puts on a pretty good show at acting busy and ignoring your request. not to mention the food is insignificantly tasteless and expensive. My date and I, ordered an appetizer, two drinks and a single entry, to share for lunch and was charge $60.

Bottom line: DON'T EAT HERE! The only thing good about this place is the view and the receptionist at the door. I PROMISE YOU THIS PLACE TERRIBLE! Try some place next door its probably just as good, if not better...

Day before memorial day..lots of people out on a beautiful day. 4 of us sat down, I was handed a greasy, filthy menu. So bad I had to ask for a napkin and a new one. I order an NA beer they had listed on the menu (Klausthauler) and the waitress looked at me like I was purple. Then we get our drinks, she serves me my beer with a 80z. plastic Dixie cup. Then, the menu didn't have any Itallian staple dishes like parmgagiana listed. actually, nothing in a red sauce. The waitress said they have marinara in one dish and the pizzas. So I ask for a parmagiana. She tells me that she's not allowed to change any of the dishes, because "It's a line kitchen, and special orders slow the kitchen down. So I order pizza. After 15 bminutes I look around and nobody anywhere near us is eating. No food has been served. (Where is Chef Ramsey when you need him. Finally we got up and left. Thqts when I realize no one on in the outdoor section had food. About 15 tables of angry people, and no apologies

We were hungry and had friends in town, so the 2 for 1 happy hour sign brought us to Il Porto. That was the only good thing out about the place. While coming off as an Itialian/Seafood establishment, it was more like Reb Lobster with pizza. My boyfriend and friend has the tilapia and I had the pizza. Their food was mediocre and my pizza tasted like it came out of a frozen box.
Also, the staff was not attentive. The gratuity was added to the bill for any size party, so you they don't really have anything to work for.
Even if you are a tourist - you can go elsewhere for better food and more reasonable prices! If you want the pizza - Grimaldi's is just across the bridge; if you want seafood, hop the A or C to West 4 and go to Bleeker St.

I spent $27 on my lunch hour drinking a okay-sized Stella and eating soggy calamari and a tomato and mozz salad that I could have made for myself with discount cheese from the dollar store. For $12.50, my friends and I received less than 12 pieces of soggy calamari with store-bought sauce and a wrinkly lemon. My friends had the shrimp and avocado salad (which was really lukewarm half-peeled cocktail shrimp with a few slices of avocado and sandy arugula), and the seafood salad (a mix of the same pre-fried calamari and cocktail shrimp with the sandy arugula). It was beyond horrible, and we had to stop by McDonald's down the street to get the taste out. Since it was a nice day during lunch, the place was packed and there were only 4 waiters a/v. The service was therefore almost worse than the food. We were forced to take a long lunch because we spent a total of 45 minutes waiting, 10 minutes eating, and 15 minutes at McDee's and walking. I'm just happy I didn't get ill from the seafood. I have truly never been to such a terrible place. Oh, they also charged us a 16% gratuity that we refused to pay. I wish I could give it zero stars.

Cons: Absolutely everything

The South Street Seaport has many tourist-trap restaurants, and Il Porto is at the top of list. I've been there several times over the past 7 years, and the experience is always the same - mediocre food at inflated seaport prices. The service is inconsistent. You'd be much better off trying one of the newer places on Front Street, around the corner.

a genuinely welcoming restaurant. the staff went out of its way to make us feel special -- plus the food was really lovely (pizza alone gets two thumbs up, and the menu is far more extensive than that!) . this is the kind of place the whole family can enjoy as much as a group looking to unwind after work. i was especially impressed with the wait staff, bartender and dessert menu. in the past, i haven't really made it a point to visit the seaport area, but il porto has given me good reason to come back -- and to turn my friends on to this really relaxing, excellent dining experience. the ability to dine outdoors in the summer is an even greater selling point -- and rather a nice way to wrap up a date.

Best place in the seaport. I celebrated my 21st birthday with my friends, luckily we arried in time for the happy hour. We were not regulars at the restaurant, yet we were welcomed as if we were. Having the food on the terrace was a tasting experience. my Friends had some crispy fish and chips, ceasar salad and pizza with prosciutto and I had the steak served with a lovely pepercorn sauce. After dinner, we had the homemade cheese cake, wich was delicious. I really enjoyed my dinner last Thursday , I had a good time. The food (especially the steak) and the drinks (especially the mojitos) were always perfect and the server's never seemed to have a bad day.
I highly recommend it.

This was the absolute worst service I have ever recieved. Five of my friends and I went out for out traditional Sunday dinner expecting a nice relaxing dinner. When we arrived, we waited about 10 minutes to be sat in a half empty restuarant. Fine, we can deal. We are seated, and had to wait for 15 minutes for someone to even approach us. After drawing attention to our table, a woman finally came over, claimed she was not our server but she would take our order anyway. They were out of pepsi, and root beer, refused to leave the salsa, sour cream, and guaq off my friends quesidilla, and refused to even check with the kitchen if my friend could have red sauce instead of pink on her raviollis. We should have walked out then and there.
We had to ask for bread to be brought to our table. The woman took our oder, left and we never saw her again. No one once came to our table to refill our drinks, we had to get up and ask who our server is, and no one knew. We ended up going straight to the bartender (the only nice person there) to get more drinks. We had to get up and ask where our food was. Our food finally came (35+ min later) and one of my friends who ordered the fish and chips (the easiest meal to cook out of all of ours) did not recieve her food. 5 mins of waiting and we had to get up and ask about it. Some other server came to our table, asked what she ordered, and said he'd "check on it." Well, another 5 min and he comes back to tell us it would be 10 more minutes before she got her food. So basically her order was never put it. NO APOLOGIES from anyone working here.
We were passed around, and treated horribly. Long story short, they never told us their managers name, calimed they had no buisness cards, and would only comp her meal. Someone who claimed to be the manager, but didn't act like one, listened to our story and never once said he was sorry for the awful service,
Worst experience ever. I hope they go out of buisness.

Pros: I left without getting in a fast fight with the horrible staff.

Cons: Picture your worst customer service experinece - multiply that by 10.

.

By far the worst service in NYC, do not go there! We had to wait 20 min for someone to come to our table just to bring us water. When she got there we were ready to order so the waitress took our order while informing us that she was not our waitress but she would take our order anyway. 30 min later our food arrived.. all but one persons dish. We wanted to wait for her food to arrive but everyone was starving, the bus boys who had brought our food never said anything about her plate being missing so we had to get up and ask the hostess who our real waiter was so we could ask him about the food. He finally came over minutes later and said he would check on the food, when he came out of the kitchen he avoided our table for another 5 min before telling us her food would be out in 10 min. The rest of our party had almost finished eating by this time so we asked to speak to a manager. The rest of the wait staff gave us round about answers as to who the manager was and the hostess said "IF" he comes downstairs I will send him over. We finally asked the bar tender who was the only decent man in the place and he sent us someone in charge who came to talk to us about the situation but never apologized once, he offered free dessert which we didn't want and he informed us that the waiters didn't care about service since there gratuity of 16% is included in the bill. This made the situation even worse so we asked for it to be taken out. I wont be going back to this place again."
