          .

Many people have declared the death of the department store, as stores like H & M and Target rose to dominance, but for me, there??s nothing like roaming the floor??s of Bloomingdale??s and having access to so many different brands and styles and high-end fashions, from Theory, Laundry, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Jones New York, Juicy Couture, D & G, Eileen Fisher (contemporary casual) to Tahari (suits), and in-house ??private-label? brands, to the affordable INC line; that way you can compare and contrast different brands and prices. Instead of seeing just one store or designer??s example of, let??s say, a ??trench coat? or a ??pencil skirt?, you can see 15 different varieties, all within relatively close proximity. Bloomingdale??s positions itself slightly above their sister store, Macy??s, in terms of price-point and quality of goods. They do best with wares such as cashmere sweaters, silk shirts and suits, and wool winter coats, lingerie (comfortable, supportive stuff that lasts) and handbags.

You??d be surprised how cheap stuff is on the clearance racks, especially a few months past it??s season (January/February shopping is the real-time to get Christmas discounts!).
They always have coupons available in newspapers like the Daily News and AM New York. They also will mail/email you coupons if you sign up for their email listserv.

Bloomingdales is one of those stores I thought I would never visit, except for my once a year excursion to pick up my sisters birthday clinique order, because its one of those stores that my mother loved, and seemed ??out of date? to me ?? but I was wrong. Recently I went in with a friend, and found that it was more than just cosmetics and perfume. They have an amazing amount of ultra cool designer gear, and lots of it, including handbags, swimsuits, and dresses, along with a killer shoe section.

While some of its pricey they also have clothing for those of us who are on a tighter budget ?? I just wish there was more of it, which is one of the downsides of Bloomingdales. I also loved the staff ?? they were super helpful without being intrusive, which was a pleasant surprise from many department stores these days. All in all I suggest checking it out because you may well be pleasantly surprised.

This place would be the worst place that a bride in the New York/New Jersey tri-state area could register. I attended an event sponsored by Martha Stewart Weddings and Wedding Wire tonight where Vera Wang and Darcy, the Editor of Martha Stewart Weddings were guest speakers. The event was highly disorganized, one of the Bloomingdales Staff who was showing the lovely Vera Wang China didn't know how to display the china for the actual potential brides that might have registered at Bloomingdales (which looked like it was about 20% of the 150 people that were actually at the event). The show was filled with long lines for everything (again for people that didn't look like potential brides and that they had just walked off the street). Also, Bloomingdales staff gave me grief about getting a gift bag because during the beginning of the show I was supposed to check in with the staff and receive a card that I was supposed to get all the vendors to sign to prove that I went to their table, even though I had called in to RSVP two people for the event two weeks ago and did speak with a few potential vendors. Besides the great talk from Darcy the Editor of Martha Stewart Weddings and Vera Wang, and the lovely floral and table setting displays at the store, the rude attitude from Bloomies employees towards an actual future bride who would've registered at 59th and Lex because of the Vera Wang Waterford Collection displayed during the show will take her business across the river to New Jersey's Bloomingdale's Riverside Square Mall in Hackensack. At least the staff across the river can run a civilized event (attended a Bridal Event there last March where Carlos Bakery, Rockleigh Country Club catered) and promote their products and also treat potential customers with some dignity and respect.

          Pros: Great Merchandise, Huge Store

          Cons: RUDE Customer Service

I love Bloomingdales. I shop here quite often and most of the times I don't get any help from any of the associates. I guess I don't look rich or snobby or high-end enough for them. There was one time I went to buy a few pair of jeans from the denim department and the cashier rung them all up and looked at the total and looked at me as if I couldn't afford it. There was also one time my sister tried to return something she purchased online to them and they sent her to 3 different cashiers in order to get the return done...and it wasn't like they were all friendly anyways. They need to stop "selectively" assist certain people...and help out everyone...it's unfair for the customers, especially when they want to spend so much money at this high end department store. I now take my business to Nordstrom.

Living in NYC for 10 years I have, of course, shopped numerous times at Bloomingdales. I went to register for my wedding this past weekend (right after my recent registry experience at Crate and Barrel) - wow, what a difference. Crate and Barrel - staff was helpful - they will walk you through one section to the other and pass on to another associate if it is not their area. Bloomingdales - I had to repeat info several times - my online site wasn't working for a week . . . nobody helped me, nobody informed me that perhaps making an appointment would be better, etc. etc. I finally got to talk to someone in their department and when I offered my feedback she rushed me off the phone, and didn't want to hear it and instead got defensive "why are you taking it out on me" kind of attitude. Listen - you work in the service industry - it's your job to value customers. If you don't like to hear negative feedback - don't work in this industry.
I went to Bloomingdales to specifically register for all their crystals, blah blah - but forget, I'll take my business elsewhere. They make the experience a headache.

I ordered 2 items from a friend's bridal registry and only one was shipped! I was horrofied to find out one of the gifts did not arrive and this is even after calling them to reconfirm. So I called them up again to re-process the order and their customer service personnel are retarded. I had to keep repeating myself and spell out everything in phonetic alphabet tables! After being on the phone with them for 20 minutes I get a confirmation email with still the wrong billing address! Unbelievable.

Well, I have to say there are two things I don't know where I would be without.
One is my mother and Second is Bloomingdales. And sorry mom not necessarily in that order.
This the only truly original Manhattan department store still around. I know we have so many shops but Bloomies still has so much class. Even the employees are good looking and neatly dressed. They Treat you like you should be when shopping like a valuable customer.
whatever you need you will find it at Bloomies and it will more then likely be a better quality item then found at other department store. Forget about diamonds Bloomies is a girl's best friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the reviewers mentioned that Bloomingdale's is good for plus size career wear which is true, but if you are looking for stylish, trendy plus size clothing, it is a no-go. I shop at Bloomingdale's because they have Lafayette 148 plus size, but other than that, there is nothing to be impressed about.

I recommend if you are looking for younger, stylish plus size clothing, check out a new boutique that just opened in Manhattan Monif C. Plus Sizes on 38th Street.

          Where to begin?

Some dept stores feature a coffee shop maybe, but there's a few different restaurants/places to eat right in the store too. The only one I've eaten at is the Showtime Cafe, it's a little pricey but the food's good.

As for the clothing selection, I border between both the small end of plus size items and large end of misses'/designer clothes. But I needed plus size careerwear, the misses' suits didn't fit me right at all. I was impressed at the selection of high quality designer suits and other conservative careerwear available in plus sizes (FLATTERING and well-made stuff too, not the flimsy shapeless Coleman tents they sell at Lane Bryant and Marshalls/shelf pull type shops!) and the personal shopper I got was very helpful. I went during the huge "private sale" this past weekend and got a beautiful Ralph Lauren suit that normally sold for over $600 but got it for $240 (incl. tax). If I had more time and money, I definitely would've looked at some more designer items on that last trip!

The Shoe Salon is one of my favorite parts of the whole store, the sales help was very friendly and helpful. Sales help was very patient and helpful and I walked away with a gorgeous pair of Lulu Guinness flats to go with my new suit.

Hosiery section is probably second fave to shoes, you can get everything from cheaper good brands like Hue and punk-inspired Z Tights to really pricey designer hose from Givenchy, Roberto Cavalli, and that one Swiss brand that charges $70+ per pair.

Whether you're a native or a tourist I think at least big B-dales trip is integral for the fabuous fashionista. I always leave feeling like a million bucks! Or like I just left the set of S** and the City.

          Pros: Everything above!

Cons: I wish I had more money to spend there! I can usually only afford to go during the big Private Sale, or shop mostly from markdown. And if you're not used to big shops/most NYC goings-on, it can get mazelike and confusing to navigate.

You can't visit NY or live in NY without recognizing the value of Bllomingdale's. Though it is not even my favorite Department store in the city (Sak's is), I still recognize that this place is a New York institution, and that it tends to have better sales than any of the other department stores. This is a place I have enjoyed visiting since I was a child. And as I get older, I can browse less, and shop more.

This store is great. The clothes are nice and are high quality and fashionable. Sometimes they have some great sales and you can get some really nice things. The attendants are a little bit snobby but they warm up to you if you start spending cash. The prices regularly are outrageously expensive. They also do not have a lot of larger sizes.

I've spent endless hours just roaming around each floor in awe at the merchandise on display..From the high end top expensive brands to some of the more reasonably priced items there is something for everyone at this premire location...

One of my favorite things to do is go to the market they have on the lower level...Everything is so fresh and tasty and mouthwateringly displayed. I've never left without some delicous goody tucked away in my shopping bag

          PROS: Fantastic array of merchandise

You can't shop in NYC and not stop in Bloomies. It is a requirement. They have a beautiful jewelry department - more bling than you can imagine. They also have a well stocked perfume selection - be careful you're bound to be spritzed. Their clothing is fabulous and their housewears are very classy. That about sums up Bloomies - class at it's best. Of course you'll pay for all of that class but you wouldn't have expected otherwise would you???

Well, although there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the store itself, the workers are not very nice. I had a bad experience while there. I was ready to buy 3 specific pairs of shoes, but when I ASKED (yeah, can you believe no one actually came up to me?, I had to ASK) the salesperson gave me the run around. They just went ahead and attended other people. Note: everyone else at the store was Anglo. Not only did they lose good business, but everyone will positively know about this!

The selection at this NYC legend is immense. I often wonder what the buyers and managers of this store think when they stock the store with everything from low-end brands like CK and Tommy to the top of the line designers from around the World. On one floor you may admire a $2000 suit and on the next a $25 toaster oven. Go figure! The higher end stuff here is not as exclusive as what you may find at Barneys or Bergdorf's, but still there is a lot to look at (and buy!) The sales staff, for the most part, is dreadful: either ignorant and untrained people or old-style hard sell people (I have had a couple of great salespeople here.) The layout is confusing and messy. Worth a stop, but beware....

Since a young girl my mother took me to Bloomingdales to shop and browse. I always loved it there, all the colorful decorations, and the soft, gentle music, and my favorite part of our shopping day was that I was allowed to buy a new outfit! Still, today, I can't leave Bloomingdales with a bag or two. Whether its for me or for someone else, you can't leave the store without something. I especially enjoy their handbag department: Burberry, Fendi, Kate Spade, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc... And I love there seasonal swimsuits, hats, and evening gowns. Sometimes I buy things I dont even Use!
