I have been dancing for years and have recently returned to dancing on pointe. After two very disappointing experiences at other stores, I was a bit wary about finding someone who actually knew what they were doing.
The owner/sale lady was wonderful! She diagnosed the problem with my "old" shoes correctly: too wide leading to my sinking into them, leading to bruised toenails and huge blisters (ouch). She took almost an hour, bringing out pair after pair until I found the right shoes that not only fit properly but looked good on my feet.
During my fitting, a number of other customers came in and she was able to work with them while I tried on more shoes. One mother wanted her little girl (she was maybe 8-9) to have pointe shoes too but the sales person calmly explained (and had some literature to back up her statement) that the child was too young. That spoke to me of a level of integrity that is often lacking in other retail businesses. Yes, the customer was king/queen when it came to service but the child's well being came before making a sale.
I was again pleasantly surprised when it cam time to pay for my shoes which were very reasonable priced. I had paid almost $30.00 more for the previous pair.
I highly recommend the Turning Pointe for knowledgeable, courteous service and reasonable prices.

This is a fun shop. It is in an old building downtown and is quite quaint and large. They have a large variety of dancing shoes ( I was there for a pair of ballet type shoes) as well as dance wear. I believe they also give dance lessons there but am not sure.

Prices are fine. They aren't overpriced but they certainly aren't cheap. Average.

The owner is knowledgeable and helpful and special ordered what I wanted. I got them and they didn't fit so, for no charge, she sent them back and got the next size and all was well.

Dancers who want good name brand shoes and accessories will like this place. People who just like a bit off beat stuff will also enjoy it. Some of their shoes are great looking for stepping out, not just dancing.

I liked this place from the ambiance to the friendly service to the selection to the items I got.

If you want quality dance shoes and accessories, check this place out.

One caveat. They have really strange hours. Call ahead and make sure someone is there or make an appointment.

PROS: Quality, good selection, friendly staff
CONS: Weird hours, call ahead to be sure someone is there
