I came to Jane with a mess of black over-processed mangled, and botched hair. My experience at Grace Heaven Salon was fantastic! Jane was honest, witty and highly intelligent about my hair, organic products and what I needed to do to

DO NOT GO HERE
this woman needs to learn about customer service. she tries very hard to portray herself as a village hippy type (giving out optimism pins... puh-lease! what a joke she is not "optimistic") but she is BITTER,BITCHY, ABUSIVE, DISGUSTING, MEAN, and worst of all A BAD HAIRDRESSER!!!! I really tried to like this place because it is a cute hole in the wall- I went 3 times. jane did my blonde highlights the first two times, and had to FIX it up afterwards both times because she COULDN'T get it right the first time. she gave me a very hard time and was MEAN and horrific about having to fix up her bad job! the last time I was there I went to Yuki- who ALSO did a bad job on my highlights, and refused to fix it for me when i pointed out that i had just payed for highlights, and still have noticeable roots... WTF... its almost laughable. I will NEVER go back here again and neither should you. this place seriously sucks and I hope it closes down.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the negative reviews I've read here about this place. I too wanted to like this place, but I am disappointed to say the least and I can't believe I spent so much money on such a terrible cut.

It pains me to give this woman even 1 star. I went to Jane hoping to find a fabulous place where I could get the "safest" color. She did an absolutely terrible job with my color howevver. Brassy highlights, and just an overall botched job. She offered to fix it for me which I appreciated. However, just as I thought, when I arrived she proceeded to tell me how much better my hair looked now compared to the first visit and she did nothing wrong . This did not surpirse me in the least because from my previous visit I knew she was a person who would never take responsiblity for anything - always blaming someone else. She did proceed to fix it and because I was grateful she did with no charge I said I would return for a haircut. She refused to see me again because she thought I was too difficult. (I was never really planning on going back because this woman was extremely rude and abusive to her staff - embarrasing her assistant and talking to him with absolutely no respect ). Save yourself time, expense and aggravation and stay away from this woman.

My haircut ranks as one of the top five worst cuts of my life.
You know the feeling when you want to cry when you get home.
Jane cut my hair and she did not pay attention to what I asked for and basically hacked away at my hair. If anything it seems as if she did the exact opposite of what I asked for. My hair is a mess and will take quite some time to recover from this nightmare cut.
The concept is great, the staff is charming, the atmosphere is down to earth, but the professional execution is just not there.

I recently moved to LA from NYC and in searching for a new local hair stylist and coming up empty, I am truly aware that no one matches the wonderful talents of Jane Webb and no salon matches the intimacy of Grace Heaven. I went to Jane on a citysearch whim and in the 5 years of seeing her have been inundated with reviews and requests for her number (and sent many happy clients her way). I am a serious color junkie (been highlighting since I was a teen) and it has been incredible to finally rid myself of the toxic chemicals with Jane's natural products. She is remarkably talented through all my phases--from beachy super blonde to chocolate brown--her color is alway multi-faceted and fits your skin tone flawlessly. The dry cuts are superb. And the special 2-chair salon peppered with Jane's flea market finds, farmer's market flowers and dreid fruits from one of her recent travels feels like a home, a welcome change from the factory-feel of so many salons. Jane herself is cultured and full of this interesting combo of hippy and fashionista sensibility and I always looked forward to my time in her chair to catch up on conversation. I've tried unsuccessfly to get Jane to move here, but for now have to be satisifed with her yearly west coast trips or my weekends back in NYC.

Pros: Intimate Atmosphere, Expert Skill

Cons: I can't convince the owner to move to LA (where I now live)

I was lucky enough to find this place almost next door to me when I first moved to the city 5 years ago, and even though I now live on the other side of town I still go back here every month. I trust Yuki completely: regardless of whether I am looking for the same as usual, or if I ask him to recommend a new style, I've always been satisfied with the results. The place is small, and often quite busy at the weekend, but the staff and clientele are both very friendly. You can just relax and be in your own space if you prefer, or join in what is usually an interesting conversation. Best of all is that the unhurried approach and natural philosophy means that I always leave feeling relaxed and reinvigorated.

Jane's space is undeniably the most beautiful boutique salon in New York City.
Her talent for design, not just with hair, is evident by her gorgeous salon, Grace Heaven.
She is a master at what she does and I am constantly surprised at how much I LOVE my new hair cut/color/style, after I visit her salon. Each time, each style, something different, and it is always followed by a tremendous amount of compliments! And most importantly of all, Jane knows all about the toxicity of the beauty industry, and knows how to care for you better than you can care for yourself. You will not be exposed to harsh chemicals, and synthetic fragrances to say the least, and will be exposed to the best and most cutting edge natural and organic products and information to help you make better and more informed decisions about your own personal beauty program. If you want to look good, go to any salon.. If you want to look great, go see Jane at Grace Heaven.

Got my hair cut by Jane after reading the spectacular reviews and deciding it was time I treated myself to a great haircut. I was not disappointed, not only did my hair look amazing in the salon but it looked runway ready when I let it air dry as well. I have a lot of fine wavy hair and an oval face and as I can't blowdry it to save my life, a lot of stock long layered cuts leave me looking like a frizzy poodle when my hair goes wavy. But this was the best haircut I've ever had. In fact when I finally had my hair cut again 7 months later by someone else in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil my Carioca stylist was floored when I told him how long ago I had cut my hair. He had never seen anything like it, needless to say the cut Jane gave me grew out beautifully. I couldn't recommend her more highly.

I've never posted on Citysearch before, but feel so strongly about this place that I think it's time for my inaugural review. I found Grace Heaven a few years ago on Citysearch and due to their high ratings took a gamble and booked an appointment with Yuki. I have curly/wavy hair and have NEVER found a stylist that I've gone back to more than once - for some reason no one can figure out how to cut my hair properly: they either do one of their stock cuts for curly hair that doesn't necessarily work with the shape of my face, or they just don't know what to do with curly/wavy hair period. Not so with Yuki! The first few times (jaded due to my past experiences) I brought him pictures of the EXACT haircut I wanted. Not only did he happily replicate (while always using the photo as reference and checking in with me about it), but he also offered suggestions as to adjustments to the cut that could work with my face shape and general style. He's kind and gentle and listens, and I now go in without any photos at all because I completely trust his taste and creativity. He's also a wiz with hair color (and I've tried tons!). Add to all this the warm, cozy, friendly atmosphere (including yummy beverages and head massages while being shampooed) and I am happy to spend hours there. I even regretfully tried another salon recently that others had recommended and now can't wait to go back to Yuki. I'll never stray again!

I've been going using Yuki at Grace Heaven monthly (I'm male) for nearly 4 years. He is patient, meticulous, unhurried, attentive and delivers cuts that look great when you walk out the door and when they've grown in. Jane, the owner, is a sweetheart, and has created a warm, inviting bohemian environment that anyone can appreciate. I moved from Union Square to the UES over 1.5 years ago and I still make the monthly trek to alphabet city, because no one else that I have tried comes close to the quality cut that I receive at Grace Heaven. Cliente is as diverse as the city. Highly recommended.

I like Jane very much and dug the vibe of the cozy salon. However, I have super thick hair and over the course of two haircuts, she managed to thin it out way, way too much. It's medium long, and I've subsequently had to cut several inches off the ends because she just left thin wisps.
Also, despite the East Village location, the clientele seems to be all the hippest moms from Montclair. Yawn.

I love Jane Webb. Being unable to find anyone in the MD/DC area who met my hopeful-standard of non-toxicity in hair care products, I started searching the NYC area, because I am frequently in the city. Hooray! I found Jane! After my first cut and highlighting experience with Jane, which was the best I'd ever had, both in skill and concept, I wondered how Jane could possibly repeat such a wonderful performance, but she did. In fact, the second time was even better than the first. I'm completely sold, a solid, enthusiastic, grateful fan of Jane's. By the way, I was able to go 3 1/2 months between the first cut/color and the second, and I was getting compliments on my hair the entire time. I have medium-short hair, and have never been able to go longer than 6-7 weeks while still maintaining a good shape. Jane is a rare gem.

I love Grace Heaven Salon. Her place really is Heaven. The stylists have awesome styling skills and they really know what to do with curly hair such as mine. They always make it look curly instead of fluffy and frizzy like other stylists. Plus they never use funky harsh chemicals on my hair. The cuts usually run you around $75-$80 which in Manhattan is practically a steal.

Grace Heaven is a jewel box--petite, precious, and perfect. Jane Webb's shop-front has all the core services that make a boutique salon worthwhile: excellent hair and color from a stylist who truly *listens* to her clients, a super-friendly but never ingratiating atmosphere, and a consistently blissful hair-washing experience. But it's the little touches and amenities that raise Grace Heaven above the rabble...nothing is careless, from the fresh flowers to the collection of homespun brooms to the rotating cast of adorable assistants, everything about Grace Heaven Salon is delightful and eclectic. I always leave with the haircut I imagined--she reads your mind--and my well-cut head swimming with essential oils, excellent conversation, and a pervasively positive attitude. You cannot go wrong.

An absolutely great place.Being new to the city I was looking around for a hair salon and came across this one with some nice reviews and decided to try it out.And Yuki did a lovely job he really knows what he is doing.I get a bit intimidated walking into those big splashy salons but this is lovely a small comfortable setting that invites you to come in and relax.

I am a hairstylist in the film industry, which took me to LA four years ago and created a dilemma. I now wait to have my hair colored and cut until I'm on a job in NY. I can't find anyone as good as Jane Webb. There are hairstylists and there are artists. Jane is an artist, in both cutting and color (a rarity, believe me). Fortunately, she gives a cut that will "grow in" so well I can go for as long as it takes to get back to NY. Highlights as well! I tried hairstylists in LA who were three times Jane's price and was never happy. I've sent bona fide movie stars to Jane and never worried for a moment that my reputation will be compromised. Jane's shop is a jewelbox, every detail created with the same care and talent that makes her haircuts so spectacular.

I was refered by a co worker to Jane and I'm so glad that I went to see her, I was a little skeptical about herbal coloring but I decided to give it a try and see it for my self, not only am I happy with how I look but so are all of my friends and best yet is my husband who is usually oblivious to my hair complemented me for the first time in ages . Thanks to Jane for the wonderful experience and for offering a natural alternative , this place is the perfect antidote to factory assembly line hair salons.

It's so exciting to have finally found a place and people I can trust with my hair. Both Jane and Yuki are priceless. They're great listeners and extremely patient. Most importantly, they're incredible hairstylists. Their expertise made this girl less fearful of an experience I once likened to a visit to the dentist. Yuki gave me a hairstyle that looks better than expected. It's a look that really fits who I am.

Everything about the place is relaxing and comforting--from the ambiant music to the delicious peppermint hand soap in the rest room. It's not a big joint---more than five people can make for a bit of squeeze. However, even this contributed to the whole intimate experience.

Lastly, I really apprecieated that no one pressured or pushed their products on me. If there's someone to blame for the $300 hole I'm in now...it's me:).

Jane is the best! I moved from NYC to Illinois and book appointments with her whenever I'm visiting. Borris, Yuki, and Jane make you feel right at home without any pressure. I have had people stop me in the street to compliment my hair. She really understands hair and your needs. I'm only scared that she'll become to popular to fit me in when I move back!!

A rare find... reviews cannot adequately describe the experience. One visit to the salon and you are hooked... I am!

A relaxed, intimate atmosphere... Jane, Yuki, and Boris, were extremely hospitable (yet, it did not feel as though they were pretending)... it felt like i knew them all before... it was comfortable... their attitude was genuine!

I was welcomed and offered a spritzer or something to cool me down (it was a hot day). Later, I was offered some freshly made organic ice tea.

The shampoo and massage are designed to spoil you. Yuki consulted with me regarding what i wanted. I got a great cut. I referred to Jane for information on haircoloring... she is very knowledgable.

Aside from the excellent service... I truely appreciate the unpretentiousness of the entire experience.

I went there on the Citysearch sale... the usual haircut price is $80 but the sale made it $60. My haircut came out nice but it wasn't anything spectacular or *outstanding*. I felt I got a good deal for $60. I might have felt a tad bit ripped off if I paid the full $80 though.. I usually get my haircuts at another pricey salon for about $90 but the detail in the cuts always come out phenomenal at my usual salon place. The head massage was great though... the atmosphere and staff were wonderful! Very unpretentious and cozy to the max... I really like that.
Just for the cute cozy atmosphere at Grace Heaven and nice clean cuts I might go back... my stylist was precise and asked a ton of questions about my home styling.

Pros: cozy unpretentious, knowledgable, precise cuts

Cons: transportation is FAR, $80 for a haircut?...

.

Grace Heaven is a perfect salon: small, warm, friendly, with natural products and the small space is stuffed with talent. I got an amazing haircut and color, the best shampoo massage in the city, some delicious iced tea and an afternoon of relaxation. Jane and everyone are really warm and neighborhoody. After cuts from Bumble and Bumble to Rumor to a million other places, I think I've finally found the perfect place for me...and probably for anyone else too!

I recently tooka trip to NYC -- I'm from Alabama-- and I searched a while for a salon to visit. Fortunately, I found Grace Heaven through City Search. Jane cut my hair into a super cute style. I have never been brave enough to let anyone else cut my hair short but Jane did an excellent job. My hair is so manageable now and I have received lots of compliments. The only problem is Jane is in New York and I am in Alabama!! Thanks, Jane!

I've been going to Jane Webb at Grace Heaven for about a year now and I've been very happy with the results. But the most recent cut and color I got have brought more compliments from co-workers and friends than any other do I've ever had! My cut is interesting and low-maintenance and the color is gorgeous.

I recently had a haircut/highlight done by Yuki. He made me feel at home and was very thorough and professional with his work. He also asked me detailed questions about my preferences throughout the time, making me feel that he was paying attention to and incorporating my input in doing his work. The salon is intimate but I didn't feel that it was cramped or too small - the bathroom is small but I love what they did with the decor! I highy recommend Yuki and the salon.

Jane Webb is fabulous! I absolutely love my new cut/style! I've never received so many compliments on a haircut! Jane really takes the time to determine what style is best for your face and hair type. She gives a great cut that you can actually manage to keep up at home. The salon is intimate and adorable, and the staff is pleasant and accommodating. After years of searching, I've finally found a stylist I love!

I've been going to Jane for ten years and I'm really glad she's in her own beautiful salon now. It's a wonderful place to go and relax and I always always walk out with a great cut and color.

Jane Webb is the best colorist and hairdresser I've ever been to (and I've been to a ton). She has a great atmoshpere and wonderful salon. People stop me constantly in the street and in stores to ask about my haircut and color. I would recommend her very highly. She is also quite inexpensive and one of the only bargains I've found in New York.

Great Salon! Very personalized and dedicated! I felt at ease and felt that JANE WEBB knew what was best for my hair & hair type....I had no fear! The best part was that she was willing to cut less and then determine if we needed to cut more unlike most places that go sisscor crazy! The prices fror NYC too are great. I did not try her for color yet I will go back!

Overall, this was the best 'salon experience' I've had in years! Yuki Ushiki gave me a great cut, and took the time to discuss with me exactly what I wanted. Everyone in the salon was really sweet and the atmosphere (tho teeny) was very relaxed and comfortable. For great service and a great cut, the price was also very nice.

I made an appt. at Grace Heaven, after a long and arduous search her at Citysearch. I met with Yuki Ushiki, and immediatly I felt like I was in good hands. We spoke about what my options were with my hair and what he can do with the pictures I had brought in. I have never felt so comfortable in this intimate salon. Yuki has been in the business for over 20 years, and really knew what he was doing and talking about, but more importantly he listen to me and addressed my needs. When left the salon I looked at my reflection in a passing window and almost cried, because this is the happiest I have been about my hair in about 6 months. Thank you Yuki, I love my hair!

Pros: Great Stylists, Great Space, Great Value

Jane & Krister (rumored to now be gone) area wonderful pair. The salon is admittedly tiny but they use excellent (and primarily all-natural) hair-color products. I found both to be genuinely attentive to clients. Your requests and concerns will not be overlooked! Prices are about average for a NYC salon, but the personalized experience and attentiveness if well above average.

i can't tell you how many compliments i get after jane highlights my hair. this is top of the line color at a third of the price of madison ave salons. service is great- so it won't feel like a bargain, but it certainly is
