We've ordered deliveries from them many times and only today discovered they are charging for items that normally are free of charge in restaurant: i.e. get this: lemon slices. Sounds ridiculous right? But, they put in a couple of slices

With all the sushi places to go to, and all the competition, you would think that a place like this would value every customer. You thought wrong. I dined here the past evening, we were seated in a large back room that was empty, we wanted to sit in the front, which wasn't full, it seemed as though they didn't understand what we were requesting. Anyway, service was terribly slow, the sushi was not that crisp fresh taste, the rice was tasteless and mushy.
I will not be back!

Amber is one of my favorite asian - fusion restaurants on uptown manhattan, I absolutely love and very awesome this place. The decor is hip plus some romance, huge Budha in back dining room and the music lounge is one of the reasons why we keep on going back! Food and drinks are always consistent, which's hard to do when the restaurant is always packed on weekend (Filet Mignon Lettuce Wraps and cooktail Budha Kiss are must try it ! ). The sushi is wonderful, and the rolls are unique, fresh, and plentiful. Try the Angry Lobster roll, it's absolutely delicious. The service friendly and attentive in a way that you could tell no matter what table you're at, you won't be forgotten. Lunch, Brunch and dinner with friends--I highly recommend this place.

My friends and I went to Amber last weekend and we loved it!!! First we had drinks at the bar: The awesome bartenders made some delicious drinks for us (You must try the "Budha's Kiss" --so good!). The food was delicious and super fresh. The servers were very friendly and attentive. And we loved the ambiance, too! There's an awesome statue of the Budha in the back room, not to be missed!

We are definitely coming back!!!

(FYI: The place is very popular, so make sure you make a reservation)

I have tried this place twice, place is cute, but the sushi is not fresh. When it happened the first time, I wrote it off for being a bad night, but when I tried it the second time, that sealed it for me. I have also tried some of the dishes from the kitchen, they tend to be oily, nothing special, and expensive for what it is. One good thing is that it is a good place to have a drink.

Pros: Good place to have a drink

Cons: Avoid the sushi

Pass by this place that seems to rely on their "cool vibe" than on being a restaurant. Ate here twice, first time I found the sushi to be less than fresh. I always give a restaurant a second chance. This time it was worse, the tuna was off color and very "fishy", needless to say I didnt eat it. I also didn't complain, and what surprised me that the dish went back untouched and no one asked me if there was a problem. Place is usually less than half full, and I am starting to realize why

When I cam over to the World Cafe, I as very unpleased... The croissants did not taste like the doughy, crunchy bread you find in Paris bakeries and the coffee tastes like cigars and sugar together (I am not a smoker and for those of you who aren't, stay away from this coffee! It's tastes and smells like Cigars dipped in icing). The prices were outrageous considering what an unpleasant meal I had. Later that day, I cam back to the World Cafe witch a couple of friends hoping the dinner specials would be different from my previous meal that morning. Unfortunately, the food was the same, greasy quality and my friends and I soon had to leave after tasting the first entree, even the sodas and beer tasted dirty and gross. I really was embarrassed in front of five of my good girl friends and guy friends when they spat the food put into the (paper) napkins and left me alone in the unpleasant, wooden chairs that scratched my back until the skin was shredded. At the end of the day, I came to my apartment, rented a movie and snuggled under my big cover and nibbled at takeout food from a local chinese place. When my friends and I were gone from the World Cafe, I was so relieved that I felt like clapping and chugging down some hot chocolate. I truly do NOT recommend this crammed cafe.

I went to Amber last night with a few of my girlfriends and was quite impressed. Very pretty ambiance and super comfortable seats - it is a small place so it's a bit squished but hey, it's new york - we are all used to that. I hate places where you have to ask for water, and you do here but overall that didn't matter. I had the indian pancakes with a curry dipping sauce (a random choice for japanese, i know) but it was awesome and then i had some crunchy, spicy tuna (excellent tuna) and also tried the spicy tuna and avacado salad (excellent) and the shrimp padthai (also delicious). Very affordable - regular rolls ranging 4 to 7 bucks; special rolls between 12 and 17 bucks and padthai around 15 bucks.

This modern restaurant is not something you see often on the Upper West Side- the food was inventive, fresh and very tasty. The cocktails were great and the price is right! I would definitely go back!
