Since its opening 30 yrs ago, Chez Jacqueline French Restaurant has managed to capture the real and true flavors of the Cote d'Azur. Located on MacDougal Street in the heart of The West Village, crossroads of Soho & Greenwich Village. Chez Jacqueline is a charming neighborhood French bistro and as close as one can come to Authentic French Cuisine in New York. Our Specialties include Onglet Grille' & Steak Frites and our Melange de Legumes Grilles is perfect for any vegetarian. The restaurant has a quiet and unassuming atmosphere. The decor is simple, warm, and glowing with pastel-colored walls that feature hand-painted frescos. A bright blue awning shades cafe tables covered in Souleido-type prints. Our large windows make people watching more than just a French sport. Our family table is perfect for any engagement, birthday, reunion, corporate event or any size large private party.

Nice, France Cuisine in the Village

by Fanny K. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 292

Please try the fish soup here, it is really delicious, well prepared with the best blending of subtle seasonings. I admit to eating here through many years - they've been in business well over 20 years so you know they are good. Bad restaurants do not last in the Village and this is worth a visit. Always check the blackboard for the day's specials and be sure to choose from this listing. Enjoy!

Best French Restaurant in New York City!

by Anton Ego

I just ate at this Restaurant last night because it is only a couple blocks from my house and i was blown away. I thought I was eating in France. Even the waiters had accents and the feel was very authentic. I felt like I was back in Paris as I was last year! My girlfriend loved it and it is now on our favorites list!

Pros: Great French Food! Affordable & Romantic!

Fine French Dining! Awesome Wedding Party Table!

by AntonEgo

Chez Jacqueline is the best French restaurant in New York City. My family and I ate dinner there and we were a party of 30. They have this excellent large table that fit us and would have fit as many more as we wanted! The service was awesome and the food even better! This is the perfect restaurant for any large party or special occasion and seems quaint enough for even the coziest romantic dinner!

Pros: Awesome Place for Large Parties!

Great find!

by MNGirl

I went here last night with 10 of my closest girlfriends to celebrate my birthday. We were greeted nicely at the door and a comfortable table was waiting for us near the window.
The waiter very helpful with the menu and he made great suggestions...we took alot of small dishes and shared some main courses. Everything was so tasty...must try the grilled calamari (best I ever had!)
The owner offered us a complimentary bottle of champagne...nice touch.
After dinner we had a few cocktails at the bar and made some new friends. It was truly a birthday to remember and I will definitely be coming back soon.

Not the best service / OK food

by nyc1chick

We went to this restaurant for our friend's birthday. It was a Saturday night 9:30 PM reservation. We were THE ONLY TABLE at the restaurant! We were given very little time to look over the menu as we were rushed to order. The food was just OK. The service was not great and when we ordered desert, around 11 PM, we were given dirty looks since the kitchen and the restaurant were closing. Not a great experience. There are many other French cousines that have much better food and service!

Not as good as it was

by 145antiques

The food used to be a lot better, it seems to have lost it's special appeal. The service could have been less snobbish

Best crème brûlée in NYC

by kevandhel

My husband & I went there for dinner Labor Day weekend (Sunday night) . It was very
quiet and quaint. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The crème brûlée is the best
I've had since my honeymoon four years ago in the French Polynesian island of Bora Bora.
I've been searching for crème brûlée as good as what I had in Bora Bora. I last tried it
at Balthazar and it disappointed me. Plus Balthazar was way too loud and crowded - the
tables were so close together that I could hear the conversations at other tables better
than I could hear my husband. Chez Jacquiline was the absolute opposite. It was rather romantic. We had great seats by the window. Too bad the only view is of an ugly park
across the street. I had salmon and hubby had the quail. I think he had a tarte for desert.
It was also pretty good. The entrees were not bad but also not spectacular. I will difinitely
be going back.

Pros: Desert, ambience

it was scrumptious

by badra_nyc

It was quite good i had the hangar steak and pommes frites (french fries) with a peppercorn sauce and grilled calamari as an appteizer. It was good. The creme brulee was really good. The butter that comes with the bread tasted as if they had just made it. however the service kind of sucked there was only one waiter and one busboy!

Pros: food

Cons: service, small

Good French Food, Decent Service

by arthurbach

I dined here on a Saturday night, and was very pleased with the quality of the food. The menu offered a respectable selection, and all of us enjoyed our entrees. The wine list was long, but a bit on the high side. The host was very welcoming, but our waiter was inattentive, slow, and a touch condescending. I will go back, and will hope for a better server.

Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Host

Cons: Service, Wine Prices

best authentic afordable french restaurant in NYC

by lyon

I recently had dinner at chez Jacqueline, the food ambience and service are all excellent, Jacqueline is always a very gracious host. The food is always beyond expectations, if you like duck, cassoulet, sweetbreads or quails to name a few all that in the 20 dollars price range don't think twice, the wine list also has some great burgundies or bordeaux to go with that! BON APETIT!!!

Fine French

by lab321

After living in Monaco for six months, I returned to New York needing to find a restaurant serving good southern French cuisine. While Chez Jacqueline's food can definitely be beat outside of the country, I have yet to find any better in the States. You must try the Soupe de Poissons Traditionelle as well as the Carre d'Agneau if you want to eat what a Frenchman would.

Pros: Good Food, Pleasant
