I don't know how often you go to Queens but Stage is worth the trip.
Their reubens are to die for and I love their salads. The atmosphere is nice and it does get a bit busy sometimes but the food is good and the portions are big!

Okay, so it's basically a tourist trap. But the food is actually decent. And it's fun to go there... when you have friends in from out of town... especially friends from small towns.

If I were starving and came up to this place I would rather die, And if you try to eat there you just might. You can't understand the wait staff as they try to hand you a filthy menu, at a dirty table. Best of all the pastrami is lousy. I could go on and on but I am off to Katz's deli for a real pastrami sandwich.......

Horrible customer service! My partner and i went for early dinner, good enough it wasn't busy, we wanted to sit by the window, Oh my Gosh, it was a big NO NO NO!! by the host, a short bald man, The reason why? Because those tables are for 4people only!! I'll understand if it was busy, but the place was just empty!! Even with the really bad attitude we got from that man, we decided to stay..We should have known better!! Trust me!! The food was tasteless but we didn't complain, we just wanted to leave..The service was ok, t'ill our waiter give us a check including the 'TIPS"!!!! They figure out simpy because we were talking another language other than english. But Guess what STAGE DELI?? We are foreigners that been living in America for the longest!! It's simply Disrespectful and illegal to add Service Charge if not stated on your menu or anywhere clients can see it!! You are lucky u haven't been slapped with a suit yet! Never experienced anything like it, and we go dinning often.

Please do NOT listen to people who rag about the prices at this place. Only two NYC eateries, the Stage Deli and Ben Benson's, are worth the prices they charge for food. Sandwiches are gigantic and fit for sharing, fries are thick and delicious (order with gravy), Dr. Brown's soda is always cold and good, and the cheesecake.....BEST IN NEW YORK, maybe BEST ANYWHERE. A slice can be shared among 5 people. The pickles are fresh and thick and crunchy. Yes, it is small, yes, it is always busy, but you are in New York City. Atmospheric restaurant, traditional loud, New York deli. You want quiet, get the food to go and sit at home. The walls are lined with pictures of the Broadway stars that have eaten there. Some have sandwiches named after them. The wait staff is busy like crazy, so cut them some slack. This is such a terrific, authentic New York deli. Just relax and enjoy!

I went here on a random, rainy Monday night, and let me tell you - it was horrendous. "It" being the atmosphere, price, set-up, and especially service. I have never had to pay $18.95 for a freakin turkey sandwich - I don't care if it piled 5 layers deep with meat, it still is not worth that. Not to mention, that price only grants you the sandwich and a pickle - no salad, fries, or friendly smile to serve you. Our food came out at all different times, the waitress was terribly rude, my water was served warm without ice, and I had to get up and request my check since she was "so busy" with her 1 other table. This place was absolutely awful and I would NEVER recommend going.

We were in New York for our annual trip, and wanted some deli before catching The 39 Steps on Broadway. We've eaten at Stage Deli previously and this time was just as good! Our waitress was a wonderful demure woman who was attentive but not overly so. We split a turkey sandwich and green salad, and while the salad was typical iceberg deli fare the turkey sandwich was delicious. Very filling, and with the salad it was a great meal for two.
We'll keep coming back to Stage Deli - recommended!

I took my wife on a surprise trip to NY for her 40th. The Stage came highly recommended by several people. I can now see why. My wife and I had never tried Pastrami or Corned Beef. We ordered the Triple Decker combo. WOW! What a sandwich. We were not crazy about the Corned Beef but we LOVED the Pastrami. A couple of days later we returned for the Cheesecake. That was just as good. I can't wait to go back next time.

If you are going to the Stage deli, chances are someone has suggested it to you. And here's what else you should have been told, Get the Pastrami, try the Cheesecake and enjoy! If you are going there to have a quiet relaxing, non-touristy- lunch, then you aren't going there for the experience. We read about this place online and had it on the list of places to visit. Our driver also suggested it as it was in very close proximity to our hotel. So after a big day of sightseeing and working up an appetite we popped in for lunch- it was crowded and you'd have thought there were no available seats. But we were seated right away. We split a Pastrami sandwich and a house salad. One suggestion is to get the small house salad b/c that would be sufficient to share between 2 people. It's busy, it's relatively loud, but so is NYC! Enjoy it, you will not be sorry! Go for the specials!

Forget the sandwiches and go right for the cheescake at this theater district mainstay (you won't have room if you don't). The portions are enormous, by all means share. the meat in your sandwich migh be a bit dry and underseasoned. But, again, you go there for the CHEESECAKE, I always get blueberry but you can take your pick from an excellent variety. It's the best cheesecake in the world.

I went here once and ordered a meatloaf sandwich. The prices are a little steep for deli fare, but that's to be expected, I suppose, of any famous or popular Manhattan deli (i.e. Carnegie, or Ben's). The sandwich was gigantic. However, the meatloaf itself was pretty bland. There didn't seem to be much to it, other than a bunch of ground beef and bread crumbs. There weren't any complimentary sides (not even a pickle or cole slaw) and the only condiment available to add any flavor was mustard. AND the sandwich was over 12 bucks! The patrons of the deli appeared to be mostly out-of-towners, which I took as sign that this place isn't exactly a favorite for New Yorkers that regular the authentic delicatessens. If seeking a true New York deli experience, seek elsewhere.

We love visiting NYC, and every single time we go to the Stage-it's a tradition. The food is awesome, service is usually very good, and it's just so New York. For my family a visit to NY without going to the Stage would feel wrong! We love the atmosphere.

I have only had the privilege of coming here once, and it was to eat breakfast on the way to the airport but I truly wish I could come here again since I have never had a better French Toast in a deli in New York in my life.

I reccomend this place for anyone wishing to spend $7 - $10on breakfast and walk out happy and full.

What can be said about this venerable eating institution that hasn't been said before.. A trip to New York for us wouldn't be complete without a meal or should I gigantic meal at the Stage.

For breakfast the bagels and smoked fish specials are incredible, but then again so is the French toast and the Blintzes..For lunch or dinner I have the hardest time trying to decide between the huge sandwich platters of chopped liver, some of the best to be found anywhere, or one of the Corned beef, or Pastrami, or the Reuban, or, the hot turkey or Roast beef platters that literally fill the large plates to over flowing. As you can tell even now writing this I can't decide what is my favorite..I even love the pickles and pickled tomatoes they bring to your table..Oh and the desserts, oh my just thinking about them makes me hungry..

Then the star power.. Located near the theater district, the Stage has, since it's inception, been a hangout of the stars, pictures of these celebrities are on every wall, and if you are lucky you can catch a star diving into a meal while you are there.

The waitresses and waiters are a trip of their own and can be abrasive or sweet depending on who's table you are at..In either case the service will be fast and the meal a bit expensive but in my humble opinion, worth every penny

PROS: Great sandwiches, desserts to die for
CONS: expensive

I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was great, but they've mistaken quantity for quality. I'd much rather have 1/4 the amount of meat with proper sides and presentation.

This place was recommended to me by a friend who went to New York. Thumbs up on this recommendation, it proved to be a wonderful place to eat lunch. Wait staff was helpful and friendly. Loved the pickles they give you. Meat piled high to the sky. It was very crowded but that only added to the atmosphere in this great little deli tucked in the sprawling streets of New York City.

As the queue for Carnegie's Deli refused to diminish over the course of a couple of hours, we headed walking downtown and came across Stage's Deli. A short queue, and we were seated. I ordered a huge sandwich named after some actor who apparently selected the ingredients personally! Sandwich was great, and the place had a good vibe about it. It was bustling with character. We were a little cramed on our table, and my girlfriend's burger wasn't that exciting, but I enjoyed the experience. Service was a little slow at first, but brightened up as the meal proceeded. The charge of nearly $20 may scare some for a sandwich but you won't need dinner after it!

Thought I would give this place another chance after a VERY mediocre (I'm being generous) first go...but the service and food left a lot to be desired. Prices were incredibly inflated for such low quality curing. Take your hunger and money elsewhere!

I regret having patronized this place. $50 for a mediocre lunch with the added pleasure of being treated more rudely than I have ever been treated in my entire life. Apparently, some people think that it's "charming" and "so New York" to get treated so rudely, but it's NOT. When you're paying good money, you should be receiving good food and good service. The pastrami was mostly fat, and the chicken soup was a brine with a few floating pieces of raw, pink chicken.

Stage Deli serves monster sandwiches, but to be honest, so do most NYC delis. Plus, you do pay the price for the sandwiches (expect to take home leftovers). Nevertheless, I really did enjoy the corn beef/pastrami sandwich. The mish mash soup is excellent though I don't like how they charge extra for sharing, though again that is common with other NYC delis as well. Service was friendly and courteous. There was a crazy lady in the restroom, but hey, it's New York! The only true negative is the cramped seating.

It's the worst breakfast I have ever had! The food was inferior and they have the decency to charge you $12 for eggs and sausage that are not remotely close to being good. For that amount, they still charge you $2.50 for a cup of coffee. The sausage even tasted old. Don't ever go there for breakfast.

You won't leave here hungry, the sandwiches are so high you can't put them in your mouth & we love the homestyle chicken soup (the mish mash could feed a family of four)--don't be fooled, you do pay for the lavish amounts of food you get, but the experience is worth the trip.

I usually visit Stage Deli when I visit NYC but I won't go there ever because during my last viist we were very rudely treated by the managers, the food quality was poor (watery perogi, frozen stuffed cabbage) and the tab prices $45 was rediculous. The managers rudely tell people they have to wait outside. They shifted us to the counter and then shifted us again because "we were in the way". What a joke. Walk to 8 th avenue and get better food for half the price.

Every visit to NY must have a deli on the food list. Whether you like corned beef or pastrami you must stop by and see Norman. He has been there for decades and can still tell what you would like before you order it. Try the special sandwiches but be prepared for more than you can eat at one sitting. I like to take the second half back to my hotel
and let it stink up the room to remind me that NY delis are still the best in the world.

It's a New York gem. It does have its problems: rude service, high prices, long waits, but you still gotta try it! The motza ball soup is incredible along with their cheesecake which a slice of is big enough to serve six people.

The waitress was awful, the food was bland and tasteless even if there was a ton of it. If you would rather quantity over quality then this is the place for you. Also there is a $15 per person minimum. I had the meatloaf that I would have fed to my dog had I been at home. My partner had the skirt steak that wasn't that bad, at least it was edible and we both ate it. The only thing that was good was the potato knish, but at $3 a piece one would have to eat 5 to reach the minimum.

So I have been here after the theater, and that seems like the best time to go. I don't like the $15 minimum when you just go in there for coffee and a piece of that cheesecake.
I have no cons, other than that, so I will just go later. Yes, that corned beef is brilliant, and those desserts! A great deli, and the selection is great. Good service every time.

Sandwiches here are never shy on the main ingredient. This is the place to experience a sandwich, not matter what your preference, you are overshelmed by both the portion size and quality. The service is exceptional and the wait staff is exactly what you anticipate-professional. Cheesecakes are all twenty-pounds or more, and it takes all of your strength to finish any dessert solo, so plan on sharing.
