Terrible service, the server seemed to be inconvinienced by us. Wings were awful. Go to Duff's, better wings and better prices.

It may be showing its age, but it's still great to eat the original Buffalo wings, and it's always fun to take friends here when they visit from out of town. I kind of like the simplicity of the place. It's a bit like some of the old NYC places I ate. Service could be a little faster, but it's still a unique place with its own low key charm.

Good but Duffs is better. And I'm referring to the Duffs in the Southtowns. If you go to Anchor Bar you have to get the extra hot.

the wings were simply ok, nothing special. the service was quite bad, the plates were dirty and the waters had chunks floating in them. there was no music playing so we almost had to wisper so that it didn't sound like we were screaming

if you are thinking about doing an online order. DONT DO IT. this is the most rude place and people i have ever spoke to. i placed an order online close to a $100 and never got any of it. when i tried to get in contact with them it took about 4 to 6 days for anybody would return my call. then when they did they said they never got the order. i said i am holding a copy of the ticket do yo want me to fax it to you. then the guy flipped out and said he would get some one to call me back and he never did. i call nobody will return a call. this is the worst place i have ever delt with. i will never try to order anything again.

I know this is the original. And my Italian heritage won' t let me say anything negative about the birthplace of the best culinary contribution from upstate NY but... The wings are crisp and excellent but ridiculously small. I actually was able to try Duff's out the same night because they were so small. You have to make the trip to pay homage to the birthplace of wingdom.

We are big wing fans and decided to stop here on the way from Michigan to Boston. The host, who did not seem the least bit enthusiastic sat us at a table for 2 in one of the 2 dining rooms - the one without the entertainment. At that point we should have asked to be reseated, but did not want to trouble anyone. We ordered the wings and found them to not be up to par with Buffalo Wild Wings or Hooters. The sauce was not as impressive as everyone mentions. Also be aware that there are not free refills on fountain drinks - unusual for any restaurant these days. We did not finish our food (which is unlike us when it comes to wings) and had to request our check from the server. Got the check and the prices on the check did not match those on the menu. Server blamed it on the computer system. None the less we were not impressed with the food or service at the Anchor Bar.

My family loves to eat at the Anchor Bar, which consistently provides great service, especially for children. The wings are awesome--I always bring out-of-town friends here and they are always impressed! It's always busy when we eat here, whether for lunch or dinner. I find the servers to be very attentive and the wings (I like my crispy, extra hot), are very good.

Pros: chicken wings have lots of flavor; good service too

Cons: parking can be an issue because it's all busy here!

First off, as a local resident, If you want chicken wings, go to DUFFS!!! Secondly, they are frauds. They stole the idea from a small African-American restaurant on Jefferson Avenue which received none of the credit or the glory. Last but not least, during a surprise snow storm back on November 20, 2000, this place tossed everybody out so they could close for the night. Businesses all over the city were taking in stranded motorists and pedestrians and putting them up for the night. The Anchor Bar couldn't be bothered!

There's about 16 places with better buffalo wings than this old shrine to fried food. Go to La Nova or Duff's or your corner pizza place and you'll be far happier.

Don't waste your time.

Location isn't worth the time it takes to get there.

I heard about this restaurant on Food Network. They said they had the best wings. We went to Niagra Falls and went across the border to Buffalo. They were right! Large wings, cooked crispy and drenched in the best sauce. The service was top notch and the entertainment that night was a blues band that kept the crowd interested. You must stop in when your in town.

This place is a must visit when you go to Buffalo. It is where the wing originated and their Buffalo sauce is amazing. The pizza here is also pretty good and I would definitely check it out if I were you.

We visited this place, obviously due to the fame behind it, while in town for a Bills game a few years ago. We sat at the bar, had a few beers and some wings. I thought they were great and had no problems with the staff as other have suggested. Maybe we lucked out, who knows. We'll find out though as we are heading there again this football season.

Pros: Food, tourist value

Cons: not in the best looking part of town

.

walking into this place may be neat because it IS the birthplace of Buffalo Wings BUT you will be better off turning around and go to ANY of the HUNDREDS of other restaurants in Buffalo that serve wings. Walking in at dinner time will be crowed as expected ( I'm suspecting mostly tourists), but that doesn't justify the long waits and the rude wait staff. I have been there numerous time only because any friends that come in to town want to see the historic place. Every time I have been there I was waited on by someone who seems to feel that they have the right to be inattentive and rude because the are an anchor bar waitress and they are special because of this.

When you order wings, expect to wait about 45 minutes to an hour for them to arrive (as you sit there thirsty because of the previously mentioned staff). Close to the end of our dinner a small band got up on stage and started playing which was ok, UNTIL i received the bill and there was an extra charge because we were there when the band was playing.

Living in Buffalo my whole life, I've eaten a LOT of wings. I'll try wings everywhere I go and I will say that I have had better. I have had the suicidal wings here and they have an overpowering taste of black pepper. The mixture of hot flavors doesn't really blend that well because of this.

If you need to see the history behind the chicken wing, stop in, take a picture, buy a t-shirt and go to Duffs on Sheridan. If you do decide to stay, don't expect the wings to be phenominal, service to be quick or the staff to be friendly.

This is a nice place to visit every few years with good atmosphere and decent food in the down town area. It's full of tourists almost all the time and there is a reason for that - the locals all go to Duffs because that is where the best wings are at. The wings were nothing special at the Anchor Bar and the pizza was lousy, but maybe the cook was having a bad day the 3 times I've visited there over the past few years???? I keep going back because all the tourist's books I read and some people I know swear by their wings, and I keep giving them a chance hoping to see what all the fuss is about. But there is absolutely NO question in my mind. Average food with a better dining area than Duffs, but I go for my monthly fix to Duffs with no regrets.

We came up to Buffalo, for the National Buffalo Festival; we had heard great things about the Anchor Bar, so we thought we would check it out for ourselves. The place was overrated with average wings. It may be the "original" Buffalo wing place, but we have had much better. The bartenders were slow and a guy that we walked in with waited 45 minutes for 2 pound! Buffalo has a lot of bars that have wings; don't waste your time here!

Everytime I go to Niagara Falls, I always go to two places: Anchor Bar and LaNova. Anchor Bar has the best wings. LaNova has the best pizza and a close second in their wings. Anchor Bar is the original place for buffalo wings and I wouldn't have it any other way. These are THE best!

The original home of the chicken wing is still the best 40 years after they made the first chicken wing. Buffalo knows how to make chicken wings, and no one does them better than the Anchor Bar. At a dollar per wing for a single order, these wings are by no means cheap. However, they are worth every penny. Mild, hot and suicidal wings are offered in small, triple and buckets.
I would recommend Anchor Bar to locals and tourists alike.

The wings are great, in the top 5 in the area, but there are better. If you have never been to the Anchor Bar, you need to go, at least once, just to say you've been to the place where chicken wings were created, that's a MUST!
Next...on to service, a big thing with me. This is a tiny, tiny place and the tables are right on top of each other. If your claustrophobic, go once, try moving your table away from others, get your wings and that's the end of your experience, you won't go back.
BE WARNED - on the weekends there is a cover charge PER PERSON to listen to live music, whether you've gone for the music or not. The woman who sings is legendary in the Buffalo area, but if you're not a jazz fan, pick another night to go.
The other food at the Anchor Bar is pretty good. We always enjoy an order of Buffalo Chips, and their lasgna is pretty good, too. The other items on the menu can be pricey and not worth the money, so choose wisely.
The service is sporadic. There have been times we've gone and it's been very good, and other times it has downright SUCKED.

PROS: THE ORIGINAL CHICKEN WING PLACE! Go just to say you did
CONS: Small, a bit claustrophobic, has a cover charge per person on weekends

I can't say bad things about the originator of the Buffalo wing... And they do make good Buffalo wings, no doubt. The other food, from what I've tried, is not all that impressive, but then again who really goes to the Anchor Bar for food other than Buffalo wings, right? I do have to say that these are not the best wings I have had, although they are up there in my top 5. The suicide wings are pretty hot - if you like spicy stuff, give them a try and you will get these little souviniers congratulating you on surviving them.

I remember when the Anchor Bar first started serving chicken wings. They were free and placed on the bar so customers could snack and buy more beer at the bar. When chicken wings really took off, the Anchor Bar was the "Mecca" for chicken wings in the entire North American continent.

Unfortunately, over the years as chicken wings became more commercial and mainstream in all restaurants, the Anchor Bar has slipped. There are at least three places in WNY that have better "wings" by far.

Everyone from out of town wants to stop at the Anchor Bar for chicken wings but the local population goes elsewhere. The Anchor Bar put Buffalo, NY on the map as the Chicken Wing capital of the world but sadly, the competition has caught up!
