Can be a nice atmosphere, but yes, we had a bad experience with one of the rude waitresses as mentioned in previous reviews. The food is not bad, lots of seniors there, as I am. My poached egg was nearly RAW and that's what I asked for, however "Eggs Benedict" is supposed to be that way. The blueberry pancakes were merely some frozen blueberries thrown in the middle of raw batter, while the dough around them remained uncooked. After mentioning this to the waitress she blew up saying she was NOT going to take this anymore. I told her to forget my food and shared my friends breakfast. Actually we should have walked out. They won't be seeing me in there again EVER. The "Soup Nazie" made these people look GOOD

The two sisters (heavy-set with dark brown hair) that run this place are rude and cranky. All they seem to care about is the money you hand them to put in their cash register. They also cough in your food as they are bringing it out to you. Gross. We try very hard not to sit at a table where either sister will be waiting on our table but are not always successful. They speak disrespectful to their employees which is somewhat entertaining but also irritating while we are trying to enjoy our meal. The food is mediocre but you can usually get in and get out quick. There used to be a grumpy old man at the cash register and now the two sisters seem to have taken over his place. Entertaining to say the least. If you eat here, try to avoid sitting at sisters table.

I have eaten here a few times for both lunch and breakfast during weekdays. Whenever I bring my Mother to her doctor's appointments in Delmar we tend to stop at Tool's to eat (doesn't seem to be too many places to eat in Delmar). Food is fair (not great) but we did get our meal quickly. Clientel seems to be senior citzens. One Wed. the woman who waited on us was very impatient with us and slammed things down on the table for what seemed to be no reason other than she was having a bad day. It also seems everyone who works there is related and speaks 'greek' most of the time (which I find impolite).

I went with my mother for breakfast, we had been to this restaurant before with no bad experiences, but this time we left saying we'd never come back. It was very busy and we sat for 1/2 hour waiting for our check, the owner walked by and asked if he could get someone to bring us our check since there was only one waitress working. The waitress came back over and very loudly said ladies your check has been sitting here on the table for over 1/2 an hour...how could that be, the table is only so big!!! Then the owner came back and talked in some kind of giberish that was hard to understand, with a nasty look on his face, something about I didn't think you were ready to leave, it's been sitting here waiting for you to pay. By this time everyone in the restaurant had turned around to look and see what the commotion was about. We promptly took the check up to the register and the owner checked me out with not only a disgusted look on his face but huffing and puffing and slamming things as he did it. I've never been so embarassed for not only myself but my 73 year old mother. We vowed to never go back there again, that's what I call just being downright RUDE to your customers!!

My boyfriend and I dined at Tools this morning after having a reasonable experience last week. To be fair, the only redeeming quality of the previous experience was a pair of crudely palatable omelets served in just under 40 minutes. Still, the restaurant is walking distance from our house and neither of us got sick, so I consider that a net positive. However, this morning we were introduced to the owner, a short, thick man with thinning hair and an affinity for gold jewelry. We waited 5-10 minutes before even being greeted by a server, another 5 to get our 2 cups of coffee. As we waited for our food my boyfriend and I explored several topics of conversation, quite confident that we had exhausted each to the point of inane platitudes before continuing to the next. When our food finally arrived after about 30 minutes, my boyfriend dug in, as his order was direct from the menu without deviation. I had ordered an omelet directly from the menu as well, however, there was a selection of cheese and I had specified cheddar. The omelet I received had American cheese. After waiting 10 minutes for our waitress to make another appearance, I explained that the cheese was not American. She proceeded to argue with me that the cheddar that they use is white. I continued to explain that it did not taste like cheddar. She went off in a huff saying that she would go ask. 2 minutes later she comes back, says that the cook did not see that she had written cheddar and that they would make me a new one. She was back with my "new omelet" in less than 2 minutes. That tipped me off that something was not right. As I started to dig into the food I quickly realized that they had simply opened up the old omelet, tossed in a couple of pieces of cheddar, and possible microwaved it for 30 seconds or so. I could not eat it. We got the attention of the owner and quickly told him what happened. He told us to wait and that he would find out what happened. He came back to the table about 2 minutes later saying "I'll tell you what happened" he went on to say that they omelet that was given to me the second time was made new for me (it obviously was not as it had both American & cheddar cheese), that it impossible to mix the cheeses as they are located in different spots in the kitchen, that he watched my new omelet being made, that they do not cut corners. At that point I was just so upset and embarrassed that I just wanted to leave. I told him we just wanted to pay the bill and leave. Hey yelled at us that he did not want us paying and to "just go away". He stormed off to the kitchen. I still wanted to pay for my boyfriend's omelet and the coffee I drank as well as the toast that I did eat. After 5 minutes of waiting for someone, anyone, to come out and take our money, we left. We will never go there again and highly recommend that nobody else go there. If you could give a score lower than a 1 on this, they would certainly get it.

I grew up in Delmar, NY and Tools was a favorite restaurant of ours. The atmosphere is very nice, but family friendly. Now, when I visit the area, I take my family there. The faces have changed, but the great food and welcoming atmosphere is still the same.
