Editorial by Citysearch

The Scene
Asia Roma is located in what used to be a part of Little Italy that has since become Chinatown. Go there for "Italian-Chinese fusion," if that's what you're hungry for, but go mainly for the karaoke bar downstairs. Asia Roma has finally solved the age-old dilemma of the karaoke virgin: How do you get good at karaoke without practice? And how do you get practice without being lynched by an angry mob?

The Draw
In Japan, there are karaoke parlors which rent out private rooms so that you and your friends can get silly without embarrassing yourselves in public. The idea met with limited success in the U.S., but at Asia Roma, you and your group can sing yourself hoarse in absolute privacy, for nothing more than the cost of your drinks. Despite a lot of fancy equipment and a giant video-screen, the room remains empty most nights.

Key Points

  • Great for Group Parties !
  • Karaoke Lounge Drink Specials
  • Great Song Selections

Best place for a karaoke birthday party! seriously...

by Irene1175

My boyfriend planned my birthday party at Asia Roma and we had such a great time. We had it on a Saturday night starting at 8 pm...and somehow didn't leave until close to 1. We had a 4 course meal and 2 hours of open bar. The food was surprisingly good, although the portions were just a bit small (mostly the appetizers). The staff was super friendly and accomodating and the place had an overall casual, easygoing feel. We had about 20 people and had the whole downstairs area to ourselves. We chose this place over a private room Karaoke type place because we heard the food was great (it was) and there is a DJ who plays the songs for you (you fill out a slip with the song) Plus you are not cramped with a large amount of people into a tiny room. It was great.

Everyone who came had such a great time. The Karaoke was even more fun, because the videos that accompanied the songs looked like bad home movies from the 1980's. We are not serious Karaoke singers, but just wanted to have some fun and this totally fit the bill. I would 100% recommend this place, and we had done a lot of research to try to pick a fun place (looked at other places like Japas 28)

Our server Julian was especially accomodating and just a nice guy! May was the woman who helped us plan the party and she was great. What a fun time!

Pros: great service, can have the downstairs to yourself, affordable karaoke

Asia Roma!

by bijou32

A nice find in Chinatown. After eating a delicious dinner, we enjoyed some karaoke. There was a very good song selection and we sang our a**es off. Also, good drinks and a very accomodating staff.

Pros: Karaoke, Staff

Guranteed Great

by kewlest1979

Asia Roma is one of the best places I ever ever been in the city. We had a holiday work party there and everyone had a wonderful night. The food was incredible and the service was incredibly attentive all night long. The owner, Mei, is totally awesome, really cool, and came over herself to check on us throughout the night. The karaoke ROCKS! They have a huge selection and an kickass room. The regulars are way cool and friendly also. Some incredible singers too. Very reasonable overall considering the calibre of food you enjoy and the top notch service. Highly recomended to anyone looking for a great night out or a sublime dining experience.

Pros: good times

Cons: LES is a bit gloomey

Best Hostess - Mei & Angel

by vargagallery

I love Asia Roma! Mei & Angel top all other hosts and the food is excellent to boot. The best place for a karaoke party. Love the downstairs, upstairs there's a nice cozy bar & you can always meet a good lawyer. Have yet to eat at a better Italian/Asian fusion restaurant. My favorite are the spring rolls. I want to be there now. I wish I was doing Tai Chi in the park across the street. The whole place is lovely. Go now. EAT.

Pros: Excellent Ambiance, food

Cons: closed sometimes.

Fun Time Karaoke!

by melaniejor

Saw this on Citysearch so I went with a few friends. We sang our hearts out to some classic tunes and had an awesome time. The people we met at Asia Roma were very friendly and the food(Asian & Italian selections) upstairs was very good as well. Glad we found it!

Pros: Karaoke, Sevice

PLACE TO CHILL !!

by tinlizzie21

love this place. you can sing when you want or just hang around the bar. there's no room charges like some other places so you can just hang around as long as you like. We really went the first time for karaoke, but to our surprise, the food was very good. We enjoyed it and we've been going back. it was fun watching other people sing too.

Pros: friendly, casual, good menu

Cons: can get too crowded

I'll go roma somewhere else...

by glitter08

For karaoke, it really shouldn't be like this. Asia Roma has a terrible selection & only two microphones. Also, it's such a small space that you can't escape the howlings of the drunks at the microphone. Not recommended - at all.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Small space, terrible song selection, very crowded

yOU gOTTA lIKE IT !!

by gigime

this place grows on you. been here a few times after a great party we had there. find myself coming here on a nights we feel like hanging out. the food is always good ! one of the things I enjoy here. and the karaoke !! as corny as it seems, but it's great fun ! staff remembers you and greets you like a regular. and most of all... the drinks are HALF of what you pay elsewhere. can't go wrong here. sometimes gets really busy on weekends. there's always a lot of parties there.

Pros: food, reasonal prices, nice new decor

Cons: slightly off path

Not the best Karaoke Experience!

by jamilahjones

The food was ok. More Roma than Asia. The karaoke was very very very outdated. It is not the place if you want to sing anything remotely current- strictly 2003 and earlier. Some of the tunes were labeled incorrectly as well. The service was good and there is some interesting artwork hanging on the walls- lots of floating fruit...

Pros: Those paintings

Cons: outdated karaoke selection

HAD A GREAT TIME

by kcahn

This is like karaoke in the remake. I was kinda shy about singing in the open, I've only been in a private room. But this is the BEST... it brings out the best in you. We had so much fun, met new friends, it was great. food was great, drinks were reasonably priced. Really had a good time.

Pros: nice crowd, inexpensive

Over-Priced Food, Outdated Karaoke

by jantonette

Went for a relatively small Bachelorette Party. Service was great, except from the Chef/Owner herself who has poor customer relations skills. The food is just average, but not surprisingly overpriced. Their Karaoke system, equipment, and list of songs are very much outdated; the equipment continuously shut down mid-song, EVERY OTHER SONG. Definitely was not a crowd pleaser, especially when you are wrongly rated as the #1 Karaoke spot in the City.

Cons: , overpriced

Worst Restaurant Experience

by ilysse

It was one of my best friends birthdays, so she called in advance to make sure they could accomodate our group of 25. Of course the owner said it would not be a problem. When we arrived, it looked shady with no decor and no customers. The sat us in separate tables. One table had their drinks, appetizers, entrees and check before we even had our sake. They were out of all wines, except the most expensive one. There were not enough Sake glasses for all. Not only did they not compensate our party, they were rude and tried making excuses. I would never go back and I certainly don't know how they are still in business. Absolutely terrible!

Great New Find!

by xyzpdq123

My boyfriend and I went there for Valentine's Day per the reviews at CitySearch. We were a little skeptical at first, but once we got there, we found ourselves pleasantly surprised. There was no crowd, our waiter was very friendly, the food was great, and the karaoke downstairs was fun! Everyone was very accommodating. We are looking forward to coming back again and inviting our friends!

Pros: Great food, Good selection wine, Fun Karaoke!

Sing on, Girl!!

by virgin_mary

I went with a bunch of my friends to Asia Roma on a whim last night, and couldn't believe how much fun we had! The best surprise of all was the terrific food. It is nice to be able to eat, drink, sing and boogie all at the same time. It is a really cute place and the crowd is diverse too.

Cheezy Fun

by Chraziness

Excellent for first timers who enjoy karaoke and for friends bringing first timers.

Great for drinking and song. The appetizers are OK.

Better to book the whole downstairs, otherwise prepare to be familiarized with a lot of asian karaoke.

Reserve all of your songs at the beginning of the soiree, otherwise your requests and dollars will be lost in the shuffle.

Have fun!

Pros: inexpensive, easy to reserve, karaoke cheap

Cons: food is eh, chance to sing less
