Non-Chinese just wouldn't "get" this place. Already opened for 30+ years, they're really well-known all over town. Sure you can buy $0.30 noodles at HK Supermarket, but that's not why ppl shop here. When you want real deal groceries like dried scallops/mushrooms, meds etc. you're buying quality here. They're PACKED all the time, so you know their inventory turn is fast. AND they speak English & are nice. So naysayers, go somewhere else if you want the cheap stuff, or want to avoid old people and crowds. Old people know where the good stores are, I'm following them...and straight into Po Wing Hong.

After going there for the first time. I come to the conclusion, its better to shop at Hong Kong Supermarket or Kam Man on Canel St. This place as no selection & everything is waay OVERPRICED! Not to mention all the gloomy miserable old people. Reminds me of the hospital or cementary. Not good. Thats like the last place I like to be at. I say hold your breath, DONT waste your time & keep on walking.

Two Thumbs Waaay DOWN!

Pros: Lots of poisionous ginseng NOT FDA approve or fakes

Cons: No real selection on Asian Products & gloomy & miserable

Po Wing Hong has many of the little things that most people who shop at Asian stores would want. They have a huge variety of random items that span from food to tea leaves to home care items that aren't found in too many western shopping markets. Usually pretty good prices but rarely do they run specials since they're fairly good deals to begin with. I believe they now accept credit cards, but last time I checked it was still cash only. Most of the works are able to communicate in English, but of course Chinese is much more preferred.

This is a purely Chinese runned, chinese grocery store. The selections are not the best for the average shoppers. Mainly sells dried chinese produce. Has a large selection of tea for the tea lovers. They do sell frozen food but it is expensive. Also sells chinese delicacy's such as dried seahorses and ginseng. This is the place to go to buy ingredients for herbal medicine.
