We arrived to find the water glasses on the table all had to be removed as they were dirty. Then we ordered, and 10 minutes later were informed that one of the dishes (tuna burger) wasn't available, so a reorder was issued for a veggie panini. 4 out of 5 of us were served, and 10 more minutes passed before the person who was forced to change her order received her meal. Problem was, it was the wrong thing - instead of a veggie panini (as she's a vegetarian) she received a turkey and bacon panini! 15 minutes passed before she received her veggie panini and at that point everyone else was long finished. They still charged us for the panini. Not one of us will ever return to A.O.C.

""When one has tasted it he knows what the angels eat"" - Mark Twain. \r\nLet me make it clear that this was a place that even the ghost of Mark Twain wouldn't venture near.\r\n\r\nI went here with a few friends and ordered the escargot & confit de canard. The ecargot were chewy and sadly done. The confit de canard was surely reheated and an unfortunate choice. \r\nThe plus side was sitting by the windows watching the people walking by (to eat decent food - presumably!)\r\nI might visit again but not to eat - more to sit by the window and watch the world go by...

I cannot say enough good things about my dining experience at the A.O.C. And I say ""experience"" because it was more than just the amazing food - it was the flawless service, the perfect lighting, the fabulous seating... \r\n\r\nOur staff provided the best service I've had in....gosh, maybe forever!!! That person floated in and out, always attentive, but never interrupting or over bearing. Server made amazing suggestions and took on all of our special requests. The Soupe A L'oignon was to die for and I had the lamb chop whic was delicious.\r\n\r\nI think I'm in love!\r\n

The enclosed garden provides a wonderful intimate setting. The menu is a bit overwhelming but the standard French fare was solid. Definitely try the hangar steak and shoot for cozying up in a corner of the garden.

The great thing about this place is that it's not busy in the morning. Unlike places like Balthazar, you can enjoy your eggs in the peaceful garden or inside by the window without breaking the bank. My server was pleasant and my coffee cup was never empty. I recommend the french toast.

Great location, and generic but ok bistro food but why bother when the staff are rude, sullen, have an attitude, and obviously don't enjoy what they do. Abrupt, ill-mannered, bordering on insolent. It's not the famous French personality - it's just got good enough. Why work in a restaurant when you aren't a people person?

Eating out in New York is tons of fun and every now and then one wishes for a fun place to eat and have a drink without thinking about the bill.\r\n\r\nIt has been 3 years since I first ate at this bistro and I find myself going back over and over again. OK, I'll admit it. I eat there 2 to 3 times a week. The food is astonishingly good value (try the mussels or even the tuna burger). They serve a solid, no nonsense breakfast until 4pm. I love the staff. Once they get to know you it is like family.\r\n\r\nA fun, unpretencious place to eat. Great vibe too!

My friends got cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery and we went to A.O.C. for coffee/tea. The ambiance was great. The waiter/waitress will not rush you out the door, they allow you time to sit and enjoy your company and the conversation.

Small intimate french place with a calming atmosphere, excellent service and food. A good place for couples or small groups of friends (no more than three). It is a bit on the small side but not cramped.

If you can eat beef, try the hanger steak. The burgers are also very good. I agree that bottles are more worthwhile, though they usually serve Hoegaarden and other beers on tap. There are many restaurants to choose from in this area, though AOC really has great service and food.

I was at AOC earlier tonight when outing with two of my friends. The decoration is lovely but the music was fairly American, country songs that does not remind me a bit of Paris or Europe. The food was most excellent, I ordered the endive salad and the vegetable risotto, the salad was so big that I didn't get a chance to finish the risotto, which was nonetheless possibly the best I've ever had. Oh, and they also have a VERY cute bartender, I am only 17 so I didn't go to the bar, but one more reason for going.

A.O.C. looked inviting from the outside so we decided to check it out. We had a really friendly waiter. The wine & beer selection was good as was the tasty cuisine. I don't often enjoy popping in to places but A.O.C. was a stroke of lgood uck.

I went to AOC with two friends on a monday evening. It was not crowded. We ordered a a cheese and meat platter and some fried shrimp to start with, and some salads as entrees. We didn't see our waitress after she took our order at all. And most of the time we had to chase down another waiter. It was difficult to get his attention by just saying ""excuse me"" when he would walk by. Our salads were brought out when we were still having appetizers. The duck salad that I ordered had hardly any duck in it. After we finished dinner, we stayed there for another 45 minutes trying to get our plates cleared and the bill. Very french service. I would not recommend this place.

After sitting, we waited 20 min. to get asked if needed a drink. This is also when the waiter told us that half the menu was sold out. After ordering our drinks and food all at once, it took another 35 min. to get our appetizer.\r\n\r\nHalf an hour after our appetizer was cleared, the waiter told us it would take more time to get our main courses. Then he disappeared.\r\n\r\nI finally cancelled our order, the waiter came back in 5 min with our plates. Unfortunately, I accepted the food.\r\n\r\nAfter all this ""cooking time"" for our salads, mine turned out to be completely empty of the main ingredient (duck)\r\n\r\nAfter 25 minutes of trying to get the bill settled, we just hunted around and found the manager. He was nice enough to take our drinks off the bill, but frankly, I'll never get those 2 hours back.

some old drunk guy who claims he is an American born in France seems to be a regular at the bar, he sat down next to us, listened to our whole conversation then started aggressing us verbally, and the waiter took the longest time to intervene. we even feared to leave the place. our worst experience in a very long time.

I actually mistaken this place for another restaurant here in LA but stumbled right in. What a great mistake. The service was so incredible. Everybody had a smile on their faces, enjoying themselves and dancing to the music (including the servers). Our server was so nice. He recommended a few things, made certain that I loved it, even told me that I shouldn't be drinking my cappicuno with the soup because it'll throw off the taste and that he'll make me a new one afterwards. The entire night he made sure everything was right, including all the other people there. Not to mention they had a projection of Beat Street in French on the wall, the place just so friendly and welcoming and the food was comforting at a great price.

A must try for all those in the Village, A.O.C. is a great place where I have already returned twice. The food is pretty good, and so is the service, though on my first visit I told the waitress I wanted my tuna black-and-blue and she had no idea what that was. Generally speaking, not overpriced, and not a risky bet for a decent meal. I wish they had live music - it would be a great atmosphere for some nice french jazz.

Living across the street from AOC, I used to go here all the time, but the last time I had brunch there, a couple of weeks ago, our waitress started complaining about the 17% tip we gave her, saying it was too small. I was with a bunch of french people so she probably thought we were tourists, but I was REALLY pissed off this girl had the nerve to complain about 17% tip for a brunch (and this after waiting 30 minutes to get seated)! Don't think I'll go back for a while....

I had an old Zagat's so I thought it was still Grove when I called..... however the new team at AOC has done a great job creating a spot for eating and relaxing. There is a gorgeous garden out back (I swear they filmed a recent episode of Sex and the City here...) and the staff really made our experience memorable. Would definitely go back

Well, I've been going there for a few weeks for lunch every now and then. I normally sit at a table near the window and work from my laptop. I decided to sit at the bar one day and thats when I met the owner! Apparently he comes in quite often around lunch time to check up on the place. He is a very courteous person and was asking me for suggestions on how to improve the restaurant. Its nice to know hes not another\nabsentee owner that will let the place go to garbage. The food is great and I always\nget good service. And on sunny days, the garden is PERFECT for relaxing.\nBeing allowed to smoke outside is always a plus. Everyone is very nice and I always\nsee smiles on their faces.

Recently I had the most fabulous experience, twice . . . at AOC that left me wanting to tell everyone about my new find! Whether you sit in the beautiful outside garden in the back or the front restaurant itself - both experiences were perfect! The relaxed atmosphere lends itself to the perfect romantic date, buisness meeting (as you are never rushed, however the staff was always attentive without being overwhelming) or just getting together with friends. The food was outstanding, both brunch and dinner, and I understand that the restaurant is now under new management . . . I was greeted immediately each time and upon leaving the restaurant, the Manager waved good-bye with a huge smile, as she did with every customer! Bravo to them as they have created a new dining gem in the West Village!

Went to AOC for Sunday brunch. We were able to order right away -- but over half an hour later no food or server to be found. When a member of our party got up to see what was going on, she was ignored by every employee she could find. In the meantime, the host came to take her chair away and make her sit where there was no leg room. When her boyfriend told the host that she would like to keep her seat as it was, he grabbed a chair and slammed it down very hard on the floor. That was our cue to leave and go to a new place around the corner (Havana something?) which was great -- and even gave us free drinks after hearing about our AOC ordeal!

Forget the garden and get the corner window seat for a people watching view of Bleecker Street. Very friendly and accomodating service, especially after realizing I had left a bag in the taxi that dropped us off there. The staff was kind enough to offer phone and phonebook to call the TLC and even bought me a drink over my tough luck. Food was good, though nothing spectacular - good for a neighborhood bistro. Prices are moderate, perhaps higher than average in lieu of location. NOTE: BYOB for a $10 corkage fee per bottle and drink like a fish for significantly less.

I have dined here occasionally for many years and recently went on a Saturday night for a late dinner.\nThe service was delightful and specials menu was all we needed. Conveniently located and always a good meal. Prices reasonable and semi-circle booths are the best in winter although the garden is also a plus.

I have not been there in a year and things have certainly changed. We had a birthday party there and everybody was rude, from the hostess who asked ""why would we expect the table to be ready just because we made a reservation"" to the waitress who when asked what choices of beer they had said ""you expect me to list them all,"" never mentioned they had specials. We waited twenty minutes for her to bring us dessert menus, and then after waiting another 30 mins we had to find her and ask her to bring the birthday cake we had pre-arranged. Also, the garden is not that special.
