The Staten Island Zoo is free on Wednesdays, the ONLY time I go. Its only a small zoo so there is not much there. My kids love the petting zoo, you get to feed the animals. Also they like the tropical rainforest. Maybe its not interesting because I been going forever. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Parking is good too.

I take my kids here, because it's pretty convenient, but I dread it. They like to feed the animals and get pony rides, but there really isn't a whole lot to see here. Also, half the time when we go, exhibitions are closed for one reason or another. I would definitely call beforehand, too, to find out if there will be any school trips at the zoo on the day you're planning to go. This zoo is very small, and it gets ridiculous when there are several schools visiting at the same time. I think they should really limit the number of people allowed in at one time. We were actually pretty much forced out last summer when there were TONS of kids there from day camps, pretty much unsupervised by their so-called leaders.

This zoo is good for younger children but adults can enjoy it as well. There is a part where you can feed the animals and pet them which the kids love. The reptile exibit is nice and has a lot of different species of fish, snakes, etc. The zoo is small but everything is close together so there isn't much walking which is good on the kids as they would get too tired if everything was spaced out. Ample parking in the lot across the street and not expensive to enter. On a nice day it is a fun trip for everyone.

The Staten Island Zoo is an extremely small, but educational place. The animals are cared for, and seem happy.
This zoo is best for those with small children with limited attention spans, because of its size your in and out fairly quickly. Its very well maintained and clean. I would recommend this zoo for any one looking for a quick day trip.

PROS: Well cared for animals, clean!
CONS: Very Small!

I love this zoo, perfect for a child's first visit to a zoo. Centrally located in Staten Island, small enough to do in half a day, yet big enough for any child. The animals are adorable and perfect picture opportunities. My parents love taking my son there, its just right for his age - 2. He thinks its the biggest zoo in the world!

This zoo is mainly for younger children or those who wish to have a quiet day with animals. There are no show stopper animals around. Years ago, they talked about closing this zoo and then renovating and reopening, but that didn't happen. It's still a good zoo, but if you want more excitement go to the one in Manhattan or Queens.

PROS: quiet day at the zoo
CONS: needs more animals

Not much to see here unless your are very interested in a petting zoo. It is a good location with ample parking and the price isn't bad. But they must consider expanding. They are not even part of the WCS which means that if you have a memership to WCS for all the local zoos, this isn't one that you can visit freely. A bit boring for the older set, younger children will enjoy the petting zoo.
