I stayed here twice a few years back and it was a very high class, nice hotel. Good for families, although pretty expensive. Concierge was very helpful and accomadating.

We stayed at the Helmsley Park Lane back in February. It was truly a lovely experience. However, we were left with a very sour taste in our mouths when we waited, outside, with our luggage, for almost TWO HOURS for the valet to get our car! To make matters worse, an employee of the hotel was badmouthing the young lady who worked at the counter, where you hand in your claim ticket for your car, openly and to anyone that was willing to listen! He called her an "idiot" and a "moron." At such a fine hotel, it was a shame that this experience put such a damper on our stay. I would not stay there again.

We have had the pleasure of staying at this Helmsley property twice during our trips to New York and had extremely good experiences on both occasions..

The building itself is an imprssive sight as it towers over all the hotels nearby with it's 46 stories which, on one side, overlooks Central Park...This hotel, is the flagship for the entire Helmsley group and not only is it accross the street from the park but it just a half-block from Fifth Avenue and all that fantastic shopping.

We've stayed in those park view rooms and have found the rooms a good size with lovely decor in a tradional European look with it's floral prints and deep colored accents. The room and bathroom are well kept and spotless, with the finest thick towels and toiletries..Best of all is the ovesized window with the most magnificant views from the higher floors .

My advice is to ask for as high a floor as possible, even if you don't get a park view the city views are very impressive from up there

The restaurant on the premises is truly first class and very expensive but with all the restaurants in the immediate area we have always chosen to go outside of the hotel for our meals..Harry's Bar, a world famous bar in it's own right, is a nice place to sit for a spell, have drink and watch all the action around you

All in all this is one of the finest hotels in the city and can't be beaten for the views of the park or the city and it's wonderful location.

The prices can be steep, but there are deals to be found if you search for them and reserve rooms far in advance or during the off peak season

PROS: Beautifully maintained rooms, spectacular views, great location
CONS: Pricey
