The Scene
Even though the restaurant can seat more than 100, the dining room still feels intimate, especially the candle-lit leather-lined booths. Pools of darkness abound, perhaps to allow the licking of a bloody paw when no one is looking. The music is more Moby than Sinatra, and you're just as likely to see a table of 20-somethings work a cheese fondue as a table of suits ordering magnums of Bordeaux.

The Food
The menu is a paper buffet--pick your cut of meat, dress it in either a sauce or a baked-on chapeau and then pick "accessories," such as Yukon gold mashed potatoes, bitter greens or wilted tomatoes with blue cheese. Meat-wise, it's all here, from rib-eye to the wonderful Argentine filet mignon to the mammoth Porterhouse. Cuts are hefty and juicy across the board.

Key Points

  • Steakhouse
  • Sunday Lunch September 16th
  • Devin Tavern Now open!

The Inside Scoop

  1. What to Drink - Try the Passion Berry Martini with rum, passion fruit, fresh strawberries and lime juice.
  2. What to Drink - Try the Ten Berry Martini with fresh raspberry puree and a Bellini with white peach puree. The Naked New York, made with Peconika vodka and blue cheese-stuffed olives, is another standout.

Great Place in Tribeca

by danielle82274

Excellent hip, romantic atmosphere. Service is impecable, the food is great starting with the strong, yummy martinis to the fondue appetizer to the excellent surf and turn special, filet and lobster tails done perfectly. Its pricey, but hey that's new york.

Pros: Great Service, Romantic Atmosphere, Good Food

Cons: Expensive

Steak and the City

by greenalien

This is a delicious place both for the eye and the palate. With a romantic setting with dim lighting and funky decor, topped off with good service and probably the best steak Ive had, how can you go wrong?

The horseradish mash potatoes and a New York strip with foie gras truffle butter as chapeaux were just divine. The only bad thing was when the waiter put regular tap in glass with mineral water! Oh la la we said service was good, not exceptional.

Pros: Good Service, Excellent Food, Fab Martinis!

GREAT STEAK & WINE

by nabelita

I keep going back to this place b/c I love the steak and wine selection. Try a chapeau on your steak and don't pass on the horseradish mashed potatoes or collard greens with bacon and brown sugar. Everything here is delicious and the portions are standard for a steak place. The service was also attentive and professional.

Pros: romantic, good parking

Cons: can be expensive

Swank and Steak

by delbomber

Chic and cozy, the atmosphere certainly lives up the hype.

The fondue is a fun start and the salmon tartare was a bigger portion than I had anticipated. The dining experience was above average overall (aided by a great zinfandel), but my biggest complaint was with my cut of meat. It's difficult to find the grizzle in such dim lighting, so I found myself ingesting a lot more fat than I like, epsecially for the price.

If dining for two, split the "accessories". Unless you love bleu cheese, pass on the maytag bleu & chive chapeau, as it overpowered the flavor of my NY strip. I traded my bleu cheese topping with my girlfriend for her "wild mushroom & truffle" chapeaux, and we both agreed it was a finer pairing.

Finally, there might be more exciting desserts, but the banana split is simply delectable.

Pros: ample parking, close to the pier, wine list

Cons: unspectacular steak

THE BEST PLACE EVER

by seximonkee1980

Took a lil trip to find but we hopped in a taxi and found it... i can't even begin to say what an amazing place. Me and my date had resevation at 10 and right on time were seated in the most comfortable booth overlooking all the wine bottles. romantic candlelight. The chocolate martinis got me quiet buzzed. I had the crabcakes for appetizer and they were amazing. The filet mignon was superior both cooked the way we asked. chocolate cake was out of this world...potatoes asparagus and mushroom sides were great

Pros: romantic, best service, courteous waitstaff

Cons: none

Like no other

by dgb2001

I went here with my girlfriend for our 1 year anniversary, and it was the most delicious meal I've had in a while. The waiter was exptremely friendly and attentive, the wine list was reasonably priced, and the steak makes my mouth water just thinking about it. You can have your steak prepared with a crispy parmesan and garlic topping that is like nothign you've ever tried. Highly recommended, especially for a romantic evening.

Pros: Ambiance, Service, Food

Cons: Expensive

overated

by chris72

A sexy place that doesn't pay attention to what's cooking. Every one of our 6 steaks was way overdone. And the side dishes are a joke--$7 for 3 tablespoons of spinach!!! This is supposed to be a steakhouse remember--excess should rule. On the plus side, the bar is very nice. Have a drink and go someplace else for steak.

Pros: Decor

Cons: Value

one of the best meals

by triggerhappy

i love eating out and love it more when i am completely satisfied with my food. the waiter i had was cool and helpful, but i must say the steaks my boyfriend and i ordered were amazing. im a huge meat eater and at times disappointed at those expensive restaurants when they cant seem to cook a great steak. but this place was great, the sauces were yummy and i loved the side dishes. yes this place was definatley a little pricey.. but isnt it worth it for excellent food?

Pros: knowlegable staff, friendly service, excellent food

Great atmosphere, decent food

by kennynyc

I've been waiting to try Dylan Prime forever, so perhaps my expectations for the food were unreasonably high. It's a really well-designed restaurant. The extremely high ceilings are really cool. The seating is spaced nicely (so that you're not on top of the party sitting next to you). It's a little loud...but I think in a good way. As for the food, I've had better. Tried the T-bone...the filet portion was miniscule (four bites at most). The strip portion was a little dry...a little too fatty on the edges. Perhaps I chose the wrong cut though. For sides: creamed spinach was good; potato cakes had this strange bisquick-y taste about them. Skipped dessert because the portions were big enough to fill me up. Definitely willing to go back to try other selections.

Pros: GREAT atmosphere, Above-average service, Hip location

Cons: A little pricey

Enjoyable

by heli

We had a great time at Dylan Prime. The fondue was delicious; the filet mignon and sea bass were also good. The martinis are nice too. However, I advise that you be VERY specific when ordering the meat because my husband said "medium well" and got a steak that was well done (with no pink in the middle). Finally, the booths are cozy and it's romantic to sit close together on soft leather.

Pros: food, atmosphere, drinks

Cons: steak overcooked, a bit pricey

A deception in romance....

by kinkiwink

Romantic from the outside, this place has great mood lighting. we got great food and service, but with a lot of noise. I didn't appreciate the seating, couples we're given the least privacy. our table was 6 inches from the next couple, in a row of 5. with regard to the food, it is quite good, but the plate presentation and garnish could use a lot of improvement. love that they use white crockery. overall, i would go again, not for romance, but for a night on the town.

Pros: great food, warm service, good value

Cons: noisy, cramped/crowded

Delicious, Swanky Dylan Prime

by nyc_eats

LOVE Dylan Prime! I have been a few times, and it's one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Not your typical steakhouse in that it's sleek and swanky. The fondue appetizer is great, as are all the steaks and delicious sides!!! HIGHLY recommended!!!

Pros: Food, Atmosphere

Cons: Location

Prime Food - Not Location

by Btrue2all

Wonderful food. A nice suprise. Quality of the food was very good. Steaks prepared perfectly prepared, the fondue amazing - all good. Cant go wrong. Worth the price. Service was weak. They tend to "leave you alone", which is typical of NYC...however it would be nice to find someone when you would like to pay the check. Location? (shaking my head). Right now, it is certainly not PRIME, but I respect the location and what the area is trying to build for the future.

Pros: quality food, menu selection

Cons: location

by sammydog

I would go back - ONLY to drink - the Blue Cheese stuffed olives are genius!!

The steak was mediocure - the sides were ok. The salads were awful - completely tasteless - where does one find bad lettuce?? It took a bigger bite from my wallet than my appetite - I would not reccomend this to anyone that I would want to talk to me again!!

Pros: blue cheese olives

Cons: food food food

A fine dinning experience if you can find it. A little out of the way. Staff was courteous and the food was very good, not great. Better ambiance than Lugers, but the finest steak it was not. Caters to the business crowd.

Cons: out of the way, value

outstanding...dylan prime's location, it's appearance and it's patrons exude pretension and new york chic, but believe me, this is a steakhouse in the truest sense of the word...the steak is fantastic, cooked to perfection...spinach, potatoes, desserts all exquisite...this place is one of those where you keep coming back even if its to have the same meal again...

great meal!!!

by i_know_food

i am a bourbon drinker, and i find myself often disappointed with the way many bars mix manhattans -- but dylan prime DAZZLED -- a truly great manhattan -- perfect balance of bitters and bourbon -- their secret is a twist of lemon and orange oil..... appetizers were not great, but the main course was well prepared -- and the sides were OUTRAGEOUSLY GOOD!!!! -- order the spagetti squash! service was terrible (empty water glasses, etc), but apologetic, so that wasn't so bad.... definitely worth a visit!

Pros: great side dishes, great manhattan, great meat

Cons: bad service, poor appetizers, boring desserts

by taidoughty

One of the best steaks I have ever eaten, and I didn't have to be in a "steakhouse" to get it. This is a really very sexy restaurant with really great food. The waitstaff is excellent they are very attentive without being too agressive. I would recommend this restaurant to one and all if you are looking for one of the best steaks in the city. This place ranks in with my top NYC steakhouses, along with Peter Lugers, and Angelo & Maxies.

This place is amazing. I came with a group for dinner and we had a superb meal. The staff was helpful without being overbearing and the food was delicious. After dinner we hung out in the lounge, relazed and had a few drinks. It was a perfect night out.

Prime time

by Katjh80

This is definitely not your typical steak house. The atmopshere is great and the food is fantastic! The steaks are tender and juicy and the sides are all delicious. I came here with a party of 6 and everyone loved what they ordered from steak to fish. The drinks are great and they have a few huge martinis to choose from that can serve the whole table. The service is prompt and courteous. Although this restaurant is off the beaten path, it is well worth the hike.

Pros: great atmosphere, great food, reasonably priced

Cons: hard to find

We had a great dinner at Dylan Prime. The drinks were big and fabulous and so was the fondue and the steak. Our waiter was top notch.

Went to Dylan Prime for a b-day party. It was superb. I have never had a Filet Mignon taste that good, ever. I was also really amused by the "chapeaux" (hat) you could pick for your steak. Don't miss out on that.

Pass on Prime!

by ekp

What a disappointment. I have been to this restuarant several times since it opened and always thought it offered great food, service and ambience - NOT ANYMORE! From the moment we arrived things went downhill. We waited 45 minutes for our reservation. Our appetizers were served cold, one of which was fondue. The steaks were dry and laking in taste. Fish that was supposed to be well done was served medimum rare. It was so disappointing to look forward to a nice meal out and then have it turn out the way it did. I will not return!

a new classic

by tabber

I first went here about a year ago, on a second date with my current gf and we had the greatest time. It was dark, romantic and stylish, but not pretentious. The drinks were great, we were both treated with great respect and the waiters had absolutely no attitude problem (common to many places like Dylan prime in price and aesthetics).
Anyway, I also found the place functions well for larger groups as I had dinner there in celebration of graduating from law school in May and with a group of 8 people thought at least one would not like it. Wrong, they all loved the variety on the menu and appreciated the non-attiutude (some of my guests were from out of town and also found the service to be quite friendly). Way to go dylan prime...a new classic. Oh and, the steaks are great.

Pros: moderately expensive, great atmosphere, service

Cons: a little out oftheway

Best Restaurant--PLEASE!

by emma3

Listen, I hate to knock at TriBeCa restaurant because we should support lower Manhattan but this isn't evene in the top 50 Best Restaurants in Manhattan! (Just ask the far more reliable Zagat's, at least they were reliable until they changed THEIR voting method to the web.) At best, it's a mediocre Wall Streeter steak house. The steaks are good but the atmosphere leaves much to be desired. And I don't need a huge martini, I need a GGOD one! City Hall Restaurant, right down the street, is a much better bet ALL the way around!

Cons: annoying patrons, mediocre food, misleading ratings

My Favorite Restaurant in NYC

by Dorsia

This place has a little something for everyone. Good atmosphere, good service, dynamite wine selection, a great pre- and after dinner cocktail lounge, and, of course, great food. In the past 18 months I have been no less than 10 times, for all kinds of reasons: business, family, friends, and dates. It just seems to work for all occasions. How can you miss with a table mojito and fondue before dinner, and enough choices to keep even the most ardent red-meat hater happy? Personally, I almost always get he porterhouse when I'm there.

I cannot recommend Dylan Prime enough. There is something for everyone.
