decent food but slow service
by diner fan
I noticed alot of changes during the grandreopening of this establishment. To be honest the food is still decent but not as excellent as people make it out to be. My wife and myself tried to give them another chance when we came for dinner and really liked the guy with the bald head and glasses that served us he was even nice enough to let us in the store by saying hello come right in while he was standing outside. we were seated quickly enough and given our food fast enough compared to a few other people who use to serve us a long time ago. I also noticed there is a young blond lady running the place very uncool doesnt say hello to the customers or say have a nice day when they leave. This guy Eric was the best server in the place and took care of everybody in the store. We come back two weeks later to find out he only lasted one day which really was disappointing because it took haif hour to be seated and served, when we asked what happened to Eric we were given a rude tone of voice such as I dont know! I cant believe we were treated like that and it took too long just to get a coffee and a refill after the meal. Iam sorry to say that if our waiter doesnt come back we wont come back he should have stayed everybody in the area knows him other people from the heights even ask us if we have seen him around and iam like sorry haven seen him lately, we will go where ever our waiter works.
Pros: newly renovated
Cons: alot of changes

Stop Complaining
by HeightsLover
I also disagree with all of the negativity being reviewed about Armando's reopening.
Last year, what did you have here...terrible Spicy Pickle loser franchise gone bad, LaTraviata, which is filthy and the ill mannered owner at Cafe Buon Gusto?
You prefer an owner that is all smiles and runs a crappy restaurant or a interested proprietor that runs a no-nonsense landmark establishment.
I know these people and they are hard working, caring owners that will take care of any legitimate request or complaint to accomodate their customers.
Yes, the staff was not great the first week or two but theat has been fined tuned to what I can see and things are starting to run fine....try the bar....great bartender and friendly people always there!
Hey, stop whining and give the place a chance. If you got a problem, make it legit and voice it directly with the owner in a place of the restaurant that the whole place is not an audience. Have class when voicing disapproval.
Try it again with a positive attitude....Ive been in many restaurants all over Brooklyn and this always was and will be #1 with me.
Pros: Cozy, Romantic and Great Atmosphere Overall
Cons: None

Back and Better then ever!!!
by Bridgetann
Armando's was my favorite place in the heights for years. I was heart broken when they closed!! I was also ecstatic when I found out they reopened!! I went there last night and I could not believe it! They are even better then before!! They added a few new additions to the menu but kept all my old favorites. They also remodeled the inside and it looks amazing!! After dinner my boyfriend and I decided to have a drink at the newly remodeled bar and ended up hanging out for a couple of hours!! The staff was so friendly and the drinks were so good we could not help it!! There are very few places in Brooklyn Heights that have a Bar where you can just hang out. I am so pleased with the new and improved Armando?s!!!!

Great lunch at Armandos
by mereditheats
I was in the neighborhood (i work all throughout brookyln) and i saw that Armando's had reopened. I had heard about the opening and i had been planning on stopping by. Wandered into the restaurant for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. A lot of places in the heights just rush you out and dont really pay attention to you. I was greeted warmly shown to a nice table (since eat alone alot sometimes people like to stick me in the way front or way back which pretty much sucks) The waiter was nice...didnt hover but didn't forget about me either.
The food was great. Everything that i could have wanted in a nice Italian lunch (i had spagetti and meatballs fyi!) I will defintiely be back next time i am in the Heights!!
Pros: great food great lunch

Thank you Lord they're back
by Lewis101
I am so glad the best Italian restaurant in Brooklyn has just reopened. The Ravioli is amazing but I have to say my personal favorite is the Filet Mignon. Our waiter was very polite and made our experience memorable. During the holiday season this is a great place to visit with the parents.
Pros: Great atmosphere
Cons: It's in Brooklyn and I live in Manhattan

renowned for my patience with this place
by Crl profoundly eats
I ate here with my man three weeks after this place reopened alot of things are not the same. Prices went through the roof. The people who work there are not friendly and dont explain the menu, asked what happened to the old menu alot of things missing. The server answers stop your cryin and tell me what you want to eat.
The two owners appear to be a father and daughter team not difficult for me to figure out. one as weak minded as the other the first thing you do when people walk in hello how are you, where would you like to sit. they just ignore you even when you have a question. I couldnt wait to get back to my office. The second thing that annoyed me was the waiter who wasnt serving my table but thought he was being gracious by giving me an expresso and trying to strike up a conversation was already in a bad mood wasnt in the mood for some weirdo to try and talk to me never again will I go in this place. by the way heights residents and employees microwaved food stinks it flatens the food and ruins the taste.
Pros: it is two blocks away from my office
Cons: food and service are intolerable

great neighborhood spot
by bkhts
I have to strongly disagree with the reviews below. They all seem to be posted by the same person, probably from a local competitor. My boyfriend and I moved into the neighborhood about 3 months ago and have finally found a great restaurant in the neighborhood. The ambiance is welcoming and romantic with low lighting and candles, and the employees are super nice. The first time we were there was on a Friday night and they we re very busy. We waited about 20 minutes for a table, but the girl upfront who was a hostess or manager was ever so sweet. She sat us in their little lounge area and brought us some wine while we waited- a Malbec which I loved. When our table was ready (a quaint little booth tucked away in the back) she apologized for the wait and told us to let her know if we needed anything else. The food was fab- I had fried calamari and the linguini carbonara..both were divine. My boyfriend had the filet mignon which was awesome. Warm chocolate cake was the perfect end to a great meal. We will definitely be going back. Great addition to the neighborhood.
Pros: food, interior

has deteriorated to a large degree
by tasting choice 74
I noticed when this res reopened again a few weeks ago alot of people were making a big deal out of it. I haif to be honest the microwaved pasta that they served really didnt do it for me and the owner is still wickedly rude little man.
He doesnt say hello to the customers when they come in,noticed a new young lady who is helping to run the place is no better doesnt greet the people and looks lost in the wilderness. The cappachinos took forever to be served because our server didnt know how to make them and had to look for someone to help him out, when it finally came it tasted like water when we wanted to say something the boss said stop whining and just finish your food. These people dont know how to run a business very arrogant to customers what they really need is mental help real soon and there are plenty of doctors in the heights to offer it.
Pros: they have a small bar in the front
Cons: arrogant staff and profoundly tasteless food.

not worth $ for the portions they offer
by frankie foods
I felt very disappointed when i ate here with a few friends the other night. Italian food should not be microwaved we cook at home and know the difference, they pulled this kind of bias a year before they closed the place for a year and a haif. The food was so flat and small of a portion for the check that we paid. Lasania is not suppose to be tiny and flat for the 16$ price we paid and 12 for a bottle of wine which wasnt chilled enough. We believe in giving a store three chances before we stop going there apparently they used them all up. nobody knew how to make an expresso which made it even more of a pain waiting 20 min for an experienced person to come along and finally make it. The owner is not friendly doesnt say hello to the customers and frowns at everyone if he thinks he will get anywhere with the way he is doing things he needs to get his head very carefully examined with a few doctors get some help sir you need it.
Pros: alot of changes
Cons: It wasnt for the benefit of the customer!

what a waste of time and effort
by eids foods
I ate with my uncle vic last week in this place and even though i love italian food, you dont put lasania or pastas in the microwave it dismantles the taste. The experesso took forever to be served and when it did come it tasted like poland spring water. I noticed a new girl managing the place while the owner is in the front she looks profoundly lost when i told her the expresso didnt come out right she was like oh its natural. The lasania made me feel like i was eating pancakes for breakfast the boss needs to go see a shrink for a while because this new place isnt going to cut it, not only that the servers move extremely slow as though they just got up in the morning. Unless i see improvement i might not come back for a while.
Pros: outside seating
Cons: poor service and food.
