This is often the first place we go for dinner when we visit New York. We've tried almost everything on the menu and it's all been exceptional. We love sitting in the tiny front patio when it's warm enough; on cooler nights, the indoor seating is cozy and relaxing.

Went here last night, wife and I both ordered the Maza with meat, which basically consisted of a little of everything of their appetizer selection. On one hand none of the dishes really stood out, but collectively everything was really good and made for an excellent meal. Also $19/person seemed reasonable considering how much food we were served.

I recommend Salam but I'm not running to go back, especially considering I'm not local to the neighborhood; and I seriously question anyone who gives this place 5 stars. It's good, maybe really good; but nothing about the menu, decor, value, or service says "excellent"...besides the Maza

Although the service is not always fast enough, the food is wonderful. I always have lots of appetizers instead of an entree. The mergezzes sausages are wonderful, the kibbies, the vigne leaf wraps, the hummus, the spinach pies, lamb pies and the pita bread is always fresh and even the desserts are good. The best part of Salam for me are the prices , it s more than affordable so i recommend going in groups and getting lots of appetizers, u won t be sorry......

Salam not only has great food, but the atmosphere matches very well to that of the middle east. Service is prompt and courteous, and as the banner says, the food is the best around. The dishes served over rice are fantastic- lamb, chicken, beef, ground lamb, and seafood items are all available. The falafel is crisp and tasty, as are all of the other appetizers. Everything good about Salam!! Give it a try and you will not be disappointed!!

The first time I tried this restaurant I was totally thrilled by the taste and quality of the food. Quickly, it became one of my favorite take-out places. The vegetable Ouzi reamins a personal favorite, I still highly reccomend it (especially for vegetarians looking to spice things up). However things did come slightly burned a couple of times, and lately the look of the food is far from apetizing. It seems that the more you order, the worst it gets- at least this was my personal experience. Also, you get less food if you're having dinner there. It seems like the luck of the draw when it comes to this place.

there was a good atmosphere to this restaurant, you really felt as if your eating in a middle eastern restaurant. the waiters were very friendly and recommended the best dish in the house. if you go order the lam chop with corinda ! (it was really good) and ask for mia, he was a wonderful server ( told me what to look out for in the menu). over all i would recommend this place to my friends for a nice casual dinner in a pleasant atmosphere. Its something differnt from all the other hussle and bussle restaurant you go to in the city. you can actually sit down and relax without someone timing the amount of time it takes for you to finish your dinner.... also FYI try the ouzi... it sounds weird but its a great meal wrap very exotic.

While the service was a little slow and the meal may take a bit longer because it's made to order, I still enjoyed it and think it was worth the wait.

My friends and I had a wonderful meal at this Mid Eastern restaurant. We shared the maza, which had a variety of tasty hot and cold appetizers. We also tried lamb chops, which were delicious, very juicy and flavorful. The shrimp coriander was another dish everyone loved . We followed with a mixed pastry dish that had some of the best and most authentic baklava I've had in the US. Everyone had a great time, we sat and talked and enjoyed the Lebanese wine that the waiter recommended.

i went here after reading the reviews and I must say, I am horrified at the quality of food and service. we were waiting for our server for almost 10 mins before he acknowledged us. I would wave at him, but he would ignore me. the food was stale and tasteless. the hummus etc., were so tart that we could barely swallow it. overall, poor food, bad service, good decor. I have eaten better food. not worth the trip.

I found out about Salam through citysearch while looking for a Middle Eastern restaurant to go to for my birthday. I went there with my girlfriend and was pleasantly surprised by the service and the food. Both were EXCELLENT! You could tell that the ingredients used very fresh and of good quality - an excellent meal. If you go there, make sure to ask for 'MIA', the waiter who served us. He was very friendly, warm and accomodating in every way. He suggested the right wines, and even had us taste a few till we finally decided on which one to go with. He was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of, without being over intrusive. When I went to the restroom at one point of time, my girlfriend and Mia planned on giving me a surprise at 12 Mindnight (my birthday). It turned out beautifully.

The decore is simple but very colorfull. The atmosphere is very good. The sevice very friendly. The food is authentic and some of it is just like I make in my house in Atlanta. I grew up in the middle east ( damascus, syria) and I love food. The place is simple but clean. The price is average. The owner very friendly. I strongly recommended if you like middle eastern food.I went on sunday and the place was 65% occupied. Best baklawa in town. Do not forget to order it for desert.

Salam has a warm exotic atmosphere and great middle eastern specialties. The chef has created some tasty and unuusual main dishes. The chicken ouzi is a delicious pillow of curried rice and chicken baked in fillo. The grilled dishes are delicious, especially succulent lamb chops and garlicky chicken breast. Salam has all the great syrian and lebanese appetizers and salads. A reasonably priced wine list makes this a great place for a not too expensive night out that will make you feel like you treated yourself!

If you like Middle eastern food, this is the place for you. Excellent Shrimp oozi (sp) and great appetizers, the stuffed grape leaves are incredible.
The desserts are very authentic.
I have lived and worked in the Middle east and find this to be upscale and authentic.

I've gone to this restaurant twice, and although the food was great both times, the service wasn't.
The service is very slow, and you will have to wait a long time whenever you want to get the watier's attention. In addition, both times that I went, I used a restaurant certificate, and was given an obnoxious attitude each time I used it. The first time the waiter kept emphasizing that I pay the tip based on the whole price, not the price after the certificate. I obviously knew to pay the tip on the original price of the meal. The second time the waiter kept trying to make me feel guilty for how little I was paying in the end, and how I should order more next time. He was clearly very annoyed and wanted to make sure that my girlfriend and I knew it. We got the picture alright, and I doubt we'll be going back any time soon.
After we paid, we didn't leave right away, but the waiter kept giving us dirty looks as if to rush us out. We got the hint eventually... I only wish I could take back my tip.

GREAT Food / HORRIBLE Service.
The food here is of very high quality (everything is freshly prepared). If the food weren't so good, I would never go back to this place again. It is actually a lot quicker to order the food for dleivery - if not you are looking at a 3 hour+ meal.

Because the # of customers eating at this restaurant varies day to day/hour to hour, at times the wait-staff of 2 finds themselves with little to do...however, when the restaurant is at full capacity (mostly Fri-Sun nights) the restaurant still only employees 2 waiters, which causes a severe dsiruption in the quality of service...

On Fri-sun nights be prepared to wait forever, repeatedly ask for things to be brought to your table, receive incorrect orders of food, etc. - the last time I was there I asked for my bill 6 times before they ended up bringing it to us). The owner of this restaurant needs to improve the service (how expensive is it to hire an additional waiter on the weekends???)

I can't believe that the other reviews make no mention of the service issue - it is a BIG problem.

In summary: GREAT food, but the HORRIBLE service leads to the 6 rating (when restaurant is empty I give it a 9).

This restaurant is a family favorite for delicious week night dinners. Try the ouzis or the grilled meats and fish. They have delicious garlicky hommos and babaganouj and great lamb sausages. The low lighting and soft decor make it a perfect date spot for conversation with someone you want to get to know.

I've been going to this restaurant for years and have never had a bad experience. It's a great place to bring adventurous out-of-towners to show off New York City. It's also a great place to bring friends for a calm, relaxing, and delicious meal. I almost always order the mazza. It's a lot of food that just keeps coming.

Salam is a place to go for incredibly good food, wine, middle eastern decor and respite from the hustling world of New York. Don't expect a rushed experience. We had a beautful time, from the pouring of the hot mint tea, through grape leaves, chicken ouzi and turkish coffee. Try a Lebanese wine called Les Bretchens. Something special.

This restaurant is absolutely delicious, and the decor resembles an authentic harem. And the best part is, nobody has heard of it, so there's never a wait, not even on a Saturday night. Try the ouzi, it's particularly sensational! And there's a wonderful room for private parties.

I'm a a semi-regular at this place and every time I go, I have a good experience. The ambiance is perfect and I'm always able to get the table tucked away at the corner.
The mazza is my favorite...you get to sample different dishes family style. The wait staff can be slow sometimes, but this is the type of place one would go with good friends and/or date--relax, have good conversations and linger over the meal.

I have eaten several times at Salam, and on each ocassion have found the food outstanding. I've seen a few comments about slow service and am not sure I understand what the problem is. I always found the staff accomodating and never had any complaints.

This place has some of the best baba ghanoush I've ever had. The lamb ouzi is also one of my favorites. Between the food and the ambiance, it's my favorite place for a relaxed date.

Dim lighting, warm colors and mirrored walls make Salam a romantic setting for Syrian and Moroccan specialties. The soft booths invite the diner to sit and peruse the inexpensive menu and wine list by candlelight. Tasty appetizers like…
