This Mexican restaurant, which recently was renovated, has great Oaxacan and typical Mexican food. From moles to Tostadas to tacos, the flavors here are wonderful. You start your meal with homemade chips and three types of salsa then go onto a huge meal, often with rice and beans. The ownership here is friendly and it's a good place to get your fix of Mexican food. This place does take phone orders too.

ordered some tacos and queso fundido...what a mistake. the tacos were tasteless and the cheese that i paid $0.50 extra for was congealed all over. what's worse -- i opened the queso fundido container and was faced with the same congealed mess that was on my taco. even after warming it up in the micro, the cheese was utterly bland. to top it off, there was more lettuce and tortillas in the container than actual cheese! that's $20 that i'll never see again.

I've been going here for almost four years now, and the food is consistently authentic, fresh, and tasty. I'm a vegan and they always listen when I tell them "no cheese" in my burrito. The burritos are huge, or if you're not that hungry, the ridiculously cheap tacos make for a smaller meal. Their guacamole is smooth and perfectly spiced, and the freshly made drinks are also excellent; a glass of frothy liquid pineapple is the perfect antidote to their salsas (which are not for wusses). The only downside is that the place is small, and there's often a wait to be seated...you can remedy this by ordering take out, or by having a drink at a nearby bar while you wait.

Pros: authentic, fresh

Cons: small, waits can be long

Everything here is fantastic, even down to the homestyle cheese. Can't get enough, and at this price? Very impressive indeed.

Pros: Food

Cons: Not good for big parties, but take out / delivery is alway a great option

Dont come here if you expect taco bell. Do come here if you want real mexican food. To top it off, the price is great. What many other mexican restaurants call a chicken burritto, you get at this place for about $3 and they call it a quesadilla. Try some of the more interesting dishes like the stuffed peppers. Delivery is very reliable.

Disappointed after reading all the good reviews. Nothing special, food bland, no air conditioning on a very hot summer day.

This tiny little whole-in-the-wall taqueria has the best and most authentic Mexican food that I have had in NYC, with a great juke box of Latin hits to boot.

This is by far the best Mexican food in NYC. My husband(who is Mexican) and I moved here from California last year and were dismayed at the lack of decent Mexican food here so we were overjoyed when we found this place. It holds its own against Mexican restaurants in California, and is inexpensive, to boot! The tacos are especially delicious... the only downside is the ever increasing wait for a table in this small hole in the wall...

A taste of my old country south of the border, Taqueria Y Fonda has captured the real flavor of Mexico. After eating here a couple of times it became one of the motivating factors for moving to the upper west side.

Don't come here expecting glamour and you won't be disappointed; do come here expecting hearty and authentic Mexican eats, though, because you're sure to get both at this no-frills restaurant, which looks like a real West Coast-style…
