I WENT LAST FRIDAY NIGHT AND IT WAS VERY BUSY. EACH BAND PLAYING HAD ITS OWN SOUND. IT WENT FROM BANDS PLAYING FUNK, TO ALTERNATIVE, TO BLUES, TO HARD ROCK. IT WAS A WONDERFUL MIX. A NEW BARTENDER THAT WAS THERE WAS FAST AND QUICK. AND SAID THANK YOU EVERYTIME YOU HANDED HIM MONEY. HE EVEN BOUGHT A ROUND OF SHOTS. THAT'S UNHEARD OF IN LIVE MUSIC BARS IN MANHATTAN.

Pros: EXCELLENT SOUND, CLEAN, GOOD MIX OF MUSIC

Cons: NONE FOR THE NIGHT I WAS THERE.

My band played here recently. Contrary to the other reviewer, the bartender was actually really nice and attentive. And the sound system was great. Unfortunately, it was dead as a doornail, and though part of that was that we couldn't get any of our fans to go to the Upper East Side, the free bar upstairs didn't seem to be any better. The only group that was there was a bunch of loud, heckling frat boys who seemed to be friends of the owner or something.

Went and saw a pretty cool band, but the service at the bar was some of the worst service I've seen. I had bartenders and owners with me and they were so frustrated. We've all seen far busier places and we couldn't even get the grumpy staff to look at us. Upon collecting the first round of empty glasses, there was no offer for another until we got the attention of another bartender 25 minutes later. I can't imagine why anyone outside of friends of the bands or bartenders would return here.

Pros: Live music was good

Cons: Service was laughable for a New York bar.

Not too crowded on a Thursday night. Most of the folks go downstairs for the live music, I guess. Beware, there's no food here. The bar has a load of somewhat out-dated delivery menus, you can call for Pizza or burgers, if you want. The bar-tender is nice and extremely easy going. The place is nothing special, but doesn't try to be. The music is a bit too loud, and the crowd a bit too white, but otherwise it's a good place to get pleasantly sloshed. --Drink Club is a Roving Groupn of NYC Drinkers

Ever since we moved into the neighborhood last summer, this has become our regular bar. The bartenders are great, the music is always a good mix of classic and new songs, the crowd is fun and it's the perfect place to go with friends for a low key evening. Basically it's everything you'd want for your neighborhood bar. In the back there are pool tables and darts and downstairs they have another bar, The Underscore (entrance is separate), with live music on most nights.

Bar East is the best neighborhood bar on the Upper East Side, bar none. Great bartenders, drink specials, pool tables and a fantastic juke box. They have a new DJ spinning great rock and pop songs on weekends, and the Saturday night crowd is a ton of fun. Last weekend was a blast!!

I love it, I love it, I love it.
For a single wacky crazy girl who likes to have fun with plenty of drinks (especially long island iced teas) and mingle with the some of the greatest guys the city has to offer, Bar East is it.
If I didn't have to go to the hamptons every weekend, I'd definately live in this bar. To get a perspective of how fabulous Bar East is, let me tell you that I party all over the place, from Connecticut to Jersey to New York, even as high up as Guilderland (don't ask), this is among the most lovely bars I've been to. I love the relaxed atmosphere and I don't have to deal with immature college frat boys like some other places. I just love this place..
