We stayed at the Lodge for 2 nights while attending a wedding. When we first arrived we were introduced to a room with water all over the toilet seat and floor. When we told the office about the situation, we were told that it was our fault there was water everywhere because we took a shower and left the curtain outside of the shower. This would have been understandable if we were in the room for more than five minutes and actually did shower. The office did take care of the situation and switched us to the room next door, which was a little cleaner than the previous room. While switching rooms, they left us with the master key explaining that it opens every room in the "hotel" and to make sure we return it when we are done getting ready. Thankfully we are trustworthy people and didn't take the opportunity to enter someone else's room while given the master key. Needless to say, this made me feel a little less safe at this hotel. Later that night we decided to check out the game-room and fitness room. This suggested play area for your children is beyond disgusting. When entering the basement your hit with the smell of mildew. This was just the beginning. There was a children's thomas the train play couch which seemed to have a brown stain on it. The toys were all over the floor, which was just cement, and not taken care of or clean. When entering the fitness room, we saw equipment that appeared to be from the 1960's. Most of the equipment looked as if it was broken and nonfunctional. I would not recommend adults or children to use anything in either of these room. It is not only unsafe, but seems like there is probably bacteria crawling all over everything. We then proceeded to buy a pop out of the vending machine outside of the office. The machine did not have a "out of order" sign, so I assumed it was safe to get a drink. I was wrong, the pop was over a year old and was extremely hot. Obviously the machine was not working properly but the owner did not seem to care. On our final morning we woke up late and had to get ready to go to a brunch for the wedding. There was no hot water and we, along with three other friends that we met, in two separate rooms, were unable to shower. I called down to the office to tell them about this and was instructed to wait 15 mins and try to water again. We did this, and the water did turn hot, but lasted a total of 2 minutes before going back to cold again. We all left the hotel without a shower showing up to the brunch not feeling presentable. When we asked to speak to the owner upon checking-out of the Lodge we were verbally attacked. He accused the five of us of being liars/complainers, and explained that we were part of a wedding group and all we were looking for were discounts and refunds. First of all, its important to understand that none of us knew each other upon booking these rooms. We met through the wedding and therefor did not enter the hotel as a group booking. We were also told that they did not care that we were paying customers and that they could not provide a receipt of our stay or do anything for us until the next day when they do their billing. So, I then told the owner about the pop i had bought and asked for a refund. He then looked at the expiration date and threw his hands in the air and yelled "is there anything else you want?" He then ran to the office. I followed him, which his wife and mom I think, followed me while yelling accusations and vulgar comments at me. When I entered the office I was not handed my refund for the drink but it was thrown at me. After leaving the office the three people began yelling that they hope i dont treat every hotel this way and what can I expect because they told me its not the Taj Majal.
After this event we were charged the full price for our stay. The owner should not be a businessman. This was not an appropriate way to handle criticism. A good company takes complaints and betters their business based on these complaints. This owner does not appreciate customers what-so-ever and is degrading and rude. I would not recommend staying at this lodge for any reason. The only enjoyable part of our stay was the friends that we met. It is sad that the owner could not do something about our situation. As a way to make this experience aware to the public, I am not only posting reviews, but contacted the BBB and the chamber of commerce. I would highly advise anyone to rethink their stay before booking this lodge.

reserved for 2 night stay, didnt even stay more than a couple hours. mildew smelling room with the oldest television I've seen since I was a kid. Dull decor looks more like a cheap motel than "lodge". Paid more than $200 for dinner for 5, soup in cup came with LIPSTICK marks...perhaps some else tasted it and didnt like it? Left after an hour in the room because it was too smelly and was causing breathing problems for asthmatic children.....was told "no problem" and they wouldnt charge a thing. A charge for 2 NIGHTS showed up on credit card bill within days after leaving. Had to fight for the charge to be taken off after PROVING that they promised NO CHARGE!! RIP OFF SCAM ARTISTS! If you like rat holes run by crooks...stay at this roach motel!

Overpriced, bad food. Dirty and dumpy. And now there's an OTB counter? Bad bad bad. My review - terrible.

I stayed there with friends this Fall and the owners were really nice. The place was clean and they serve a good breakfast. My one complaint was that the whole complex is sort of lit up like a used car lot. I go to the country partly to get away from street lights and flood lights and see the stars. But they were nice folks.

I walked into Kindred Spirits for the first time, greeted by smoke from the warm fire. Apparently, the flue wasn't opened, so we had a slight smoke problem! But no problem for the staff; we were treated to an amazing experience. A handcrafted bar, 15 beers on tap, locals galore with their stories of Alien Abductions, etc. Well, anyway, the salad with raisins was superb, the bar food was well above average. Although I proved to be the best pool player in Palenville, NY that night, I didn't let it get to my head. The owner was very attentive to our needs, and played down the obvious shame he felt upon the previous review. In fact, he confided, that despite the fact that he wasn't even the owner, he felt shamed. Sure, reviewer #1, had a bad night. But, apparently she came in at 9pm, close to closing, and obviously didn't want to pay for their meals!

Everything, our party of five had was great. The local stories of monsters and vampires only helped to embellish the legend. The atmosphere was eclectic. The bathrooms clean, the waiters and waitresses excellent. We even had the opportunity to speak with the cook! Overall, a excellent local experience.

First, I'm not one to normally sit down and feverishly write reviews, but after the single WORST dining experience of my entire life, here I am...we chose this restaurant because of it's close proximity to The Woodbine Inn (FABULOUS, by the way) and arrived around 9:00 pm on a Saturday with just 3 other occupied tables in the restaurant. Our party of 9 sat down and ordered. We were there for a fun weekend with friends and spared no expense when ordering! TWO HOURS later, we had only been served salads (which took nearly 45 minutes). We inquired with our server and miraculously our food appeared...and it was COLD, and truly NOT able to be consumed! My "maple mustard pork" was as tough as a lacrosse ball and had NO glaze for which it was mistakenly named. Others who had ordered steaks found that they had been sitting out so long the glaze/sauce had a thick skin on it. Worse yet, those who had ordered pasta found it literally cold to the touch! When we asked for the owner, in a disgustingly cocky manner, he said "what do you want me to do? Sometimes it takes this long." If I could have the time back, I would've made PB&Js at home than have given this establishment a dime!

Our room was in a separate building from the main lodge. It has not been updated since the 1960s. Upon opening the door, we were hit with a musty, stuffy smell that was a combination of pet odor, mildew, and dirty carpets. The tiles in the drop ceilings sagged as if they were about to fall down any minute. Lifting a tile along the wall provides direct access to the room next door (as well as sounds). The ceiling in the outdated bathroom is badly stained due to the lack of a ventilation fan. The room did have an air conditioner, which did not work. There is a shared balcony, but the chairs were metal and therefore completely rusted. Although this was a disappointment, especially at $105/night (when their website says $95 for a single queen bed on the weekend), we were still glad to have a weekend getaway in the Catskills.

However, on our first morning, we woke up to find no hot water. This was around 8am. The water was not even luke warm, it was ice cold. We let it run, and run. Still no hot water. We called the desk, they said "Let it run." When that didn't work, we went to the office. No one is ever at the desk, you have to hunt them down. When we found someone, we were told that it was impossible, there are 3 boilers. When we finally convinced him to come up to our room, he ran the water for about 5 minutes and then realized it was simply not getting warm. He said people were taking showers, it uses a lot of water, and left. Other guests said they had ice water when they tried to shower. It was a least a couple of hours before the water heated up. This is unacceptable, and we felt that we should receive some money off of our first night because of this HUGE inconvenience. When we went to the office to check out, no one was around, we had to hunt them down (again). When we did find someone, at first she didn't believe us when we told her we had no hot water. When we said we had someone in our room and he saw that there was none, she told us that "this is a big place, lots of people take showers, you have to wait. If you don't like it, don't come back!" When we said we wouldn't, she said "Good! I don't care!" Oh, and by the way, they charge your credit card at check-in, so they are guaranteed to get your money. Is this any way to run a business? Now a family that has been staying there for years will not return. I have never been spoken to in that way. And I will add that we were never rude to them, we didn't show our irritation in any way that would make someone speak back to us like that.

The lodge has become very run down, old, out of date, and the people running simply do not care to help you or to try and accomodate their guests in any way. I suggest spending your money elsewhere.
