ordered delivery from here - food showed up 2 hours after i ordered and 45 minutes after i cancelled the order. the manager had the nerve to wonder why i was upset and why i didn't think i needed to pay for food when i was long gone from my apartment when it eventually showed.

Even though we had plenty of drinks at the table, the manager and waiters started hovering and trying to kick us out after an hour - when the restaurant was EMPTY! They were incredibly rude and had no reason to want us to leave - we were quiet and the restaurant was literally half empty. The drinks are also gross!

The nachos were greasier than need be and getting water refills was like pulling teeth. Not going back, the restaurant Cilantro is MUCH better!

Me and the boo went here for Valentines Day and there was a wait - just like every where else that day. But at least we got a chance to sit by the bar and have a few drinks until our table was ready. The drinks were really good, sangria was SLAMMIN (got a lil buzz) the price was average. Its suppose to be a 'Mexican' spot but they seem to fancy for me. The food was more decor than tasty but all we had were some appetizers. The quesadillas were so so, I hated the Guacamole... this is suppose to be a Mexican spot that Guacamole should be one of the best thing on the menu, this turned me off but the calamari was delicious. The total bill came to $100, which I think was rather cheap for the Patron shots and cups of sangria we had. Service was good but like I mentioned before it was V-Day and they were pretty bussy. Nice spot to go on a date or chill with a few homies.

Pros: atmosphere, music (not so loud)

Cons: GUACAMOLE... LOL

Highly recomend this bar speacially the drinks . Happy hour never stops, good music, good chips y salsa, good guacamole side and good bartender. The bartender really took care of me as always buying me drinks back. Good friend and funny guy, very entertaining ,dances behind the bar (only when he drinks, that's a shame because he is muy lindo). Keep the good work Cuba.

I just move to the UWS and i'm trying to find a good mexican restaurant in the area. After reading the mixed reviews from Rancho's i decided to give it a shot. Besides what the other review said the cuban guy at the bar is not entertaining at all ,maybe for spanish speaking customers but he didn't understand my orders at all. My margarita was only sour mix and ice and my friend order a strawberry daiquiri and he gave her a strawberry margarita. After that we finally move to a table, the chips and salsa are so small and cold. My appetizers came together with my entree. The plate was hot but the food was cold. Our drinks took forever and took a long time after we finish for the waiter notice us again. When the check finally came everything over there was really overprice.Never again.

It's giant frozen margaritas are the best on the upper west side. The food is fresh and fair portions. My boyfriend and I are mexican food lovers and theirs is very tasty. So I highly recommend it and don't forget to get their made to order guacamole.

How can i start about this place, the bartender took half an hour to notice my presence not because he was busy but because he was talking to somebody. The bartender was nice but he didn't understand english. The margarita had more ice than anything else and that for only $10. $ 10 for only ice is to much.Poor service and loud music.

i'm amazed this place has good reviews - that is, until i realized nearly all of the glowing recommendations were by people who had ranked only one place. yeah, i think it's obvious that the rave reviews were written by "plants" and/or racho staffers.

anyway, the service here was AWFUL - our food took forever, we did not see our waitress again after we ordered (i had to stop another server just to ask someone for our check) and we couldn't even get someone to fill our glasses with water. wtf?

the food was mediocre at best - what kind of mexican place rations its chips and salsa into infant-sized portions? entrees were okay in taste but pretty skimpy in terms of portions.

oh yeah, the atmosphere sucked - super, super loud and obnoxious. not that i mind that per se, but this place needs to make up it mind as to whether it's a "nicer" resaurant or more sports-bar/festive in nature. regardless, it needs new management and servers who give at least 1/2 a sh*t about the patrons. i'll be back there again around never o'clock...

O Rancho, where should I start. Problem number 1, ordering food and drinks. Let me start out by saying an appetizer once ordered should arrive before your main dish, not alone side your main dish. That small problem Along with the time it took for my dish to finally reach my table was unacceptable. Problem number 2, Drinks o drinks how do like my alcoholic beverage and not a glass of ice. This wasn't right at all. My Drink, which was a gin and tonic had more ICE then GIN and fine I took it in stride but when I ordered a shot of tequila and received the check, I noticed that one small shot glass of tequila was priced at $10 dollars. Nope that's all I can really take. high prices and long waits for food that quite frankly shouldn't take so long to produce, scores this RANCHO a 1.

I went there to celebrate my best friends birthday by having a dinner here. They kept getting our number of guests wrong. I understand that it was partially our fault for being so late, but that does not excuse the bad food and the fact that they stole our birthday candles! I brought cupcakes to celebrate her birthday and after kicking us out of the ?party area? and rushing us to eat super fast they took us to a crappy table that didn?t even fit all of the guests to sing ?happy birthday? well they stressed out my poor best friend and she had such a bad time, I felt horrible they didn?t even take the time to put the cupcakes in a better tray, and the candles we brought to make the cupcakes a bit more special were nowhere to be found! I will never go back to this place ever again! Over priced for mediocre food and watered down drinks!

Their margaritas are fantastic, but you have to balance this with the fact that they consistently provide terrible service and mediocre food. They even ration the free chips and salsa by providing a small side plate with a dozen chips and two ounces of salsa. Word to the wise, steer clear of the dining room/patio and sit in the bar. At least there you can get a cocktail right away while you wait forever for your food order to arrive. Plus, by the time your food finally does arrive you'll have a healthy buzz going and no longer care how uninspiring the food was.

Went for margaritas. They were fine. Tried the beef nachos and not only were they tasteless the cheese was rubbery. Yuck. The place was fumigated recently and smelled horrible. The salsa comes in tiny little serving cups and is lacking of flavor as well. The music was blaring so it was hard to hear my companion. Do I need to say more?

We were looking for a modest mexican restaurant, and the positive reviews prompted us to make a reservation. Big mistake.
$9 Margaritas should taste like such, not like the margaritas one might get in an inexpensive pub. "Guacamole in a Molcajete" should not be served in a dainty small white ceramic bowl. We were told that it was prepared to order, but hard to believe given the mushy texture. And too bad they don't know how to use salt. Chips served on a plate look like the restaurant ran out of bowls. Entrees were no better, flavorless and poor presentations. I had ordered a sampler, the sauce served with the overcooked stuffed jalapenos had the metallic tang that one can only get by aging in a can. Perhaps it wouldn't be so frustrating if the prices did not approach Rosa Mexicano levels. Our daughter - 6 years old - ordered a quesidilla. 2 6" totillas with cheese sliced into quarters, with grease drippings on the plate. $8.75. Wow!
Service was classic diner service, yet at half the pace.
Upon leaving, I mentioned to the hostess, who I believe was Eastern European, that the food was really dreadful. Her response was "yes" with a big smile. She clearly didn't understand. To bad management doesn't understand what a decent meal is.

I've lived on the UWS for 10 years and continue to adore this place....the food is always fresh tasting, service is top notch, and I find the decor inside to be cozy, charming and perfect for an upscale Mexican experience without being too uppity and overpriced. Whether out with girlfriends, my boyfriend or family with children, we've always enjoyed ourselves. Definitely would recommend it. Chicken fajitas are my favorite as are their margaritas!

We have gone to many Mexican restaurants and have found some good ones like Mama Mexico's and Dos Camino's.

Then a year ago, we moved close to 88th and Amsterdam. Naturally, we were eager to try our new local Mexican eatery. We couldn't have been more pleased.

Rancho's Happy Hour is incredible. They have 2-for-1 Frozen Margaritas and food at the bar from 4-7pm. The Margaritas are HUGE and AWESOME. Ask the bartended to pour a little crushed strawberries on them once in a while... MMMM. The bar staff is real friendly and nice which is rare these days.

Their Chicken Chimichanga's are to die for. Their Fiesta Platter is a great deal when having drinks with friends. I will compare their food with any in the city.

I am not getting paid to say this... I just like this place a lot.

We never should have gone back after a first dismal experience at Rancho, but good reviews here and living conveniently close let us back for a seccond try. Again, the hostess had a horrible attitude and the waitstaff was discourteous. At least this time there was no smoking at the bar. I would never return to a place who obviously so doesn't value their customer's business.

Not the typical cheap Mexican joint with loads of bland fillers, thus its more pricey than some but worth the price difference. Marguarita's are delicious and not missing any taste or liquor! The food is great tasting and protioned appropriately.

It's true, their mango margaritas are unique. The weak alcohol is NOT, however, worth dealing with a disrespectful staff. If you're in the mood for slow service, being ignored, and waiting for the bartenders to stop gabbing and actually notice you, then drop in. Outright customer disrespect truly makes for a bad evening. Take your business elsewhere! Check out "Ariba Ariba" on 9th Ave.

I was visting a friend of mine from college to celebrate her 25th bday and we decided on mexican food. After being turned away from Mama Mexicos because they were crowded and the wait was ridiculously long we decided to check out Ranchos which was right around the corner from her apt. (We passed by it earlier that day) The wait was not long at all. We didn't even have time to finish our drinks at the bar before we were seated by the nice hostess.
I've never had mexican before so it really was a treat, the restaurant is a nice size, i didn't feel like i could hear everyone's conversation. And yes the sangrias are worth the trip! Good place to take a first date, girls nite out, etc. I'm sure we'll go there again when we return to ny.

My boyfriend introduced me to his favorite Sunday restaurant, "Ranchos" when I was last in NYC. IT was pouring down rain when we entered the cozy and warm decor of Ranchos. Then the music, the food, the Margys.. all a 10. I could not get enough Margaritas, so he has promised not to go back to Ranchos until I return to NYC. (I don't think he can really wait...but I hope so)

Good margaritas and tasty food. Not many vegetarian options. There's a small area where you can sit outside which makes it worth the trip in the warmer weather. Better than Mary Ann's but not nearly as good as Mama Mexico.
