Pep Boys

I live walking distance from Pep Boys and have used them for the sake of convenience over the years. But now twice in a row they have returned my car to me with incorrect information about what they fixed. In one case they charged me for a part replacement and the dealer showed me it was still the old part. They are incredibly slow, I think b/c they want you to shop in their store while you wait. I ordered new tires and when they came in, I was forced to come back to the store in person and pay just to have them installed--they wouldn't even take my card over the phone. Just terrible service and don't deserve continued support.

The 2 people who wrote good reviews about this place must work there. I'm not sure who this "service advisor" that they BOTH talk about is, but I sure didn't have one. I only spoke to the cashiers at the service department, and I've never seen people move so slowly, or care less about their jobs. I needed one tire checked and my oil changed. There were only two cars in front of me. 2.5 hrs later they called me to the desk to try to sell me new tires. I declined. They said to give them a min and my car would be ready. An HOUR later I went to the desk to find out what could have happened. Out of 3 employees on computers and chatting with each other only one was actually helping customers (VERY slowly). When I finally got my car back I found that the tire I needed to have checked (that they said they found no leek in) had only been inflated to 20 PSI instead of the recommended 44 PSI. I would have gone in to complain if I'd had another half an hour to wait in line. 2 hrs later the tire was down to 10 PSI. I'm going to guess my tire does have a leek even though their "great" mechanics who "know their jobs" couldn't find it. Now I guess I get to wait and see what else goes wrong with my car since they've touched it. Go ANYWHERE else.

I recommend this business, greatly. The service advisor was great, the mechanics did their job[s] on my car. I have no problems or complaints about this company.

The service at Pep Boys was great! The service was great, and the adviser was very understanding and helpful, and my car was fixed without err. Although the price was high, the service was top rate, and I have no complaints. I didn't have any other issues with my car, like the previous reviewers, some cars do go in with a lot of problems that the owners neglect in order to save money. But the guys at Pep Boys were great, and they Know their jobs and beyond its' confines. I recommend this store wholeheartedly.

I had a very similar situation happen to the one described in the message posted. I went to Pep Boys because the air in my tires was low. It took them 3.5 hours, despite the fact that there were no other vehicles waiting, for them to 'fix' the tires and replace a punctured spare. 24 hours after leaving Pep Boys my car failed to turn on, the engine was giving me issues, and the head lights were no longer working--1 had totally blown out. There is seriously something going on with their service department!

I'll just explain what happened and let the readers make the decision...

I decided it was time for a maintenance check. I took the car to Pep Boys with no specific or identified issues and they assessed that I needed a tune up and my tires changed. I decided to mull over their recommendations and drove the car back home 0.8 miles away and parked it.

I returned the following week to just have the tires changed. Again, there were no specific issues with driving the car. When leaving the Pep Boys lot after ONLY having the tires changed, the check engine light came on and the engine started sounding differently. I literally drove 0.3 miles after leaving Pep Boys.

In total, I drove 1.9 miles between the time of the Pep Boys assessment and the time the engine light came on WITHOUT HAVING ANY PREVIOUS ISSUES with driving the car. Pep Boys stated that it as a complete coincidence that my engine light came on.
