The vibe here was great in the beginning. However, I arrived alone, and the bouncer wouldn't let me in. I was polite and just waited for my friends. Hours later, when I was in, I went to use the women's bathroom. There was a man in there

$40 credit card minimum and there isn't even an ATM in the place. When I ordered my drinks and handed the bartender my card he informed me of the minimum and I said I'm not going to get to that. He grabbed my drinks and threw them out. He didn't even tell me where I could get cash - made it really easy for me not to patronize that place.

I have been going to Sway Lounge in Soho for the past 5 years. It is THE place to go in my book. The waitresses are sexy and your drinks are brought to your table in the blink of an eye. The bartenders, women and men, are probably some of the best eye candy in the city. The young lady who manages Sway is always ensuring that everyone is having a good time. Customer service at a lounge? Unheard of before my visit to Sway. The DJ pumps out hit after hit which does create a problem at times. Dance all night long or sit and chat with friends and enjoy the delicious libations? Amazing music and the best cocktails in the city? The conundrum never ends. Sway is a rare gem amongst dull gray stones. Don't be intimidated by the door policy because it is strictly enforced. And, to be honest, I absolutely love that. It's NYC. If you don't come out looking like you should be invited into the hot spots why should you be? The place is packed full of the hottest girls and guys in NYC. Takes me back to the days when going out in NYC meant something. Sway is definitely following that heritage and tradition. I look forward to the weekend so I can get my good times rolling at Sway! Cheers to Sway Lounge for making NYC nightlife a wonderful and unique experience!

Cons: The party ever ends

This is my favorite bar/club in the city. I have fun every time I go there. The crowd is different every night of the week, but every one is just there to have a good time. The bartenders never shy away from making a good stiff drink and some of them have become very inventive with the libations. The music is always fun regardless of the night, and there is no better place to sit back and do some people watching. The staff is friendly and it seems more like home than it does a bar. I couldn't think of a better place to see my friends or go out for a night on my own, but regardless of who I am with, the night always winds up being fun, crazy, and just a little bit on the edge.

Sunday nights at Sway are a New York establishment. You must experience this Smiths/Morrissey crazy, sexy time. You go there any night, you're bound to have a good time as well. There are good looking people, drinks to be had, incredible djs, and the people that work there are all gems. The atmosphere is also shadowy and incredible. Always fun debauchery.

Friday nights at Sway with a group of friends is one of the best nights in the city. DJ Vito Fun spins a great mix of old and new school pop/dance/house/rock and unabashed dancing from all kinds results.

Never do you get any attitude and never do you feel out of place.

Always a good time!!

I've been a Sway regular for about ten years and I've always had a good time there.

The music is always good, especially on Sundays and Mondays. Sunday night (Smiths night) is the most fun. Thursdays are good too.

Fridays and Saturdays can get a little bankery, business schooly, but on other nights the crowd is pretty cool.

ive been a regular for a long time and i keep going back. sure, it can get crowded, its not the cheapest bar, its a bit out of the way, and getting in the front door is occasionally a thing of luck. still, it does something that i think a lot of new york clubs (at least ones that im conscious of) fail to do - create atmosphere.

the red walls and furniture, the moroccan decor, the darkness lit only by small table candles and corner lights, the heat, the music, they all add up to one hell of an experience. its a dramatic place, and it can make you feel the way movies look, as if sway were one of those places that directors try desperately to recreate, and audiences dont think really exist. on its best nights, everyone dances, everyone has a great time, everyone goes home either happy, with their closest friends, or with someone new, and theres a feeling of "man, things got just a little CRAZY in there" like the entire place could collectively loose control at any point, but not in a bad way.

anyway, whether its the glam-hop kids on mondays, the suits on the weekend, or the hipsters on sunday nights, i think sway is good place to go for anyone looking to just let loose and have a good time.

and the girls are hot.

Sway is a great place to drink and dance your cares away any night of the week. The crowd looks good, drinks a lot and dances like they just don't care! I've spent many a fun night there and have never had a problem with the door or service staff. The music is always great and although the atmosphere is chic, it's down-to-earth at the same time. None of the Meatpacking Dist. bitchy door staff/bottle service crap. Yay Sway!

If you like yummy drinks, a balanced co-ed mix of hotties and awesome music then Sway is where your going tonight. Every night of the week has a different feel and is always unique and crazy. Sunday is usually my favorite night to play, but every night is a HIT!
Try out Sway, you will not be disappointed!

Pros: Music, DJ's, prices, HOT STAFF

Cons: Too much dancing...?

I always have a good time at Sway. It is always filled with real New Yorkers, not a lot of bridge and tunnel goons. They stay under the radar with no sign outside and the door staff keeps the crowd looking and feeling fresh.

You can hear all kinds of music at Sway, there are different DJs and parties every night.

Sway is always a good time!

Perhaps when one has a BMI in the obese to quite obese, it leads to treating people blatantly rude. This is their doorman. On a rainy night, with no line and dozens of nerds leaving, the fattest of the crew simply stood under cover noting no dudes allowed. It was just me and one friend to meet a mixed group of friends. Once I saw the numbers leaving, and no offense, their complete lack of talent, it was time to leave.

Also didn't help seeing rats hanging out in the garbage they apparently don't mind leaving on their curb on busy Thursday night.

Add to that the arrogant bartenders, narrow space and less that compelling reason to go, and perhaps the place learns from a hit on business or quality clients that it needs to change its tune.

Never understood the attraction of the place to some of my friends, perhaps they are convinced to find a new place to spend their money.

i came to the sway to join my (french) friends inside, but the guy at the entrance wanted to see my id to prove i was indeed 30. when i gave him a copy of my israeli passport proving my age he passed it around to his friends, which were very much amused at it (maybe the hebrew letters amused them?). anyway, he became extremely rude and still wouldn't let me in, refusing to explain. my friend came out and tried to talk to the three big-guys at the entrance and to the girl that seemed to be also in charge, but they still refused to explain why they won't let me in. when my friend asked the girl why my israeli passport is not good enough she freaked out and refused to talk to him as well. i was extremely offended, such a thing had never happened to me before. i couldn't believe this was going on.

Whether it is a quiet Wed night or a Sat night that I want to have some fun, I alway have a great time at Sway. Over the years it has become my home away from home and the staff have become some of my best friends. I love the decor, the music, and the people watching. It doesn't hurt that they serve up bottles of my favorite tequila. The crowd is diverse and adds to the flavor of a place that I already find truly unique.

I used to be at Sway with friends at least a couple of times a week. That was back when they still had free Red Stripe on mondays and the people at the door were still kinda cool(the bartenders were always jerks). But alas the times have changed. These days the people at the door are probably in the running for rudest people in the city. Last time I went I showed up with a great girl:guy ratio and they still were jerks at the door, so I'm done. Only time you'll ever catch me at sway again is if Ancor is just WAY to packed.

As a native New Yorker and major nightlife denizen, I've seen my way around the city - from dive bars to being one of the lucky few to tear up 1Oak. Generally speaking, I am easy to please - with three requirements - good music, hot girls, and an easily-accessible bar to quench my neverending thirst for alcohol. Unfortunately, I've now been to Sway three times, and the proverbial Three Strikes, You're Out rule is now in play.

This club is the most overhyped, overrated, wanna-be MPD spot I've ever seen. From the arrogance of the holier-than-thou, hideous and snooty door girls, to the persistent lack of female talent inside, I don't understand why anyone would venture to such a remote location....unless, of course, you truly came to go to Anchor and the place was too packed, so you were forced to have a sub-par night across the street.

The gig's up. The club is unimpressive, your girls are ugly, your music sounds as if an 8 year old is playing an iPod on shuffle, you're located in the middle of nowhere, and you're pretentious enough to think you're in TriBeCa. Since you could care less about the potential of your establishment, please just pack it in. It'd make everyone much happier to not have you around. Thanks for your attention, yeah you, ugly door beeyyotches.......

I attended SWAY on a Thursday night and must say - I have never been more miserable in my entire life. After discussing for 10 mins with the pale, tall, rude, gross, blonde door girl why she should let me and my friend in - we got into this horror show. Extremely rude staff, unfriendly - a similar feeling to a prison. Entire staff is on a power trip - not sure why, the place is a dump. I would never go here again and wouldnt even bother wasting your time. The door girl is a miserable, disgusting human being.

I am a big fan of this place! I have always had a great time here and often find myself leaving other establishments and getting a cab to sway mid-night because its a gauranteed good time. Great crowd full of people out to have a good time and dance- not at all snobby! and great music (usually) mix of hip hop and 80s. However this past Friday, they had a girl Djing and I'm all for Ladies spinning, but she was far below par, she was playing music for the majority of the night that no one could dance to and trust me I can figure out a way to dance to almost anthing!- Sway you should dump this girl!

We're from Manchester.
We walked 30 minutes across town on a very wet Sunday for Mozzer night on Feb 17th.
We were advised as soon as we got there by Mr. Attitude on the door "it's President's Day tomorrow and we're only letting regulars in".
I told him where we were from....he couldn't give a toss.
A complete let-down. Don't waste your time or money there.

We had been trying to contact Sway for more than a week, it was my birthday occasion and we never got a call back. So we decided to go have a nice dinner and head for Sway after wards. I could not belive after traveling from Westchester County, I was turned away with my group. Not only was I rudely insulted, I was told by the girl at the gate to "try going across the street" that she was trying to help me in my situation, by suggesting I "cross the street". I told her dude it's my birthday and I really wanted to celebrate my night with hearing Moz music and that is why we traveled all the way over.. She could care less, and refused to let me see the management. The black bouncer was just as rude. Who do these people think they are.. it's not the China Club!

I've lived in New York, Paris, London... never seen a place like this. Bad music, rude service and they threw my friend out of her B-Day party even though she paid a fortune to reserve a room!!!!!!!!!!! If you want to stay in line, pay a fortune for a bad drink (watered down and all) and then being insulted, then please by all means go there! Oh, and music is aweful too BTW...

This is the first time I have gone to the trouble of writing a review...this place is not worth the trip! A group of us tried to go there after 2am on Saturday night for one last drink, and the rude, obnoxious, fat man at the door wouldn't even look at us when we were talking to him. How great could it be inside that he has that kind of attitude? We go out all the time, and always get a table for bottle service, but you couldn't pay me to go back to this place!

the time has come to officially stop going to sway. used to be a really fun place where friends could meet up and enjoy themselves. the place has now turned into this: obnoxious clip-board-girl (linda) and excessive attitude at the door. you can attempt to call or email for a smooth entry, but unless you are willing to pay for bottle service, you'll have little luck. bummer. sway just lost great credibility and heaps of business. for a MUCH better time, head to anchor bar or the emerald inn across the street. see ya sway!

not only is this lounge located in siberia...what awaits inside, if you even get through the incredibly rude and nasty people at the door, is nothing but more rude bar staff and musty/dusty decor. i wouldn't go back there ever.

Cons: middle of nowhere, rude staff

.

I used to come here once a week when I lived on the UWS. Now that I'm a West Village resident, I'm there a little more than I'd care to admit. While the door has become increasingly difficult (they rotate door people, so it's hard to get an in), it's definitely worth the trouble. Give it a try on either Thursday or Saturday if you're a banker type or if you want to meet one, and on Sunday if you're more of the artsy persuasion. And per NYC custom, guys should bring girls or else plan on showing up on the early side in order to improve your chances. See you there...

Sway keeps the crowds coming, especially late into the evening. This Moroccan themed Soho lounge/bar is known as a trendy nightspot to see and be seen, although you're more likely to see large groups of guys than anything else. Nevertheless, Sway can offer a good time for a group of friends or singles looking mingle - without paying a cover charge. The door can be hit or miss, so it's recommended that you always have a back up plan before you start your evening.

I have been a loyal Sway-goer for the past two years. I usually arrive with a few friends- we're pretty attractive females- and we don't typically have issues getting into places, this one in particular. Not last night, though! There was a girl working at the door and she was letting in a different crowd than usual... this place usually draws beautiful people, but last night, the girl at the door was turning down the more attractive types for their shorter, fatter counterparts. I hope this isn't indicative of the demise of Sway! Because I sure was not impressed and I won't be making my way back any time soon. Also, for the boys that love this place for the "coke-skinny women," BEWARE!

Pros: music, stiff drinks, se xy people

Cons: infiltration by homely people

Really still is one of the best places around. not uppity--like the trendy clubs with minimialist decor. Fun, good music. Everyone seemed to be having a great time when I was there recently. The place is actually really nice, Moroccan themed, intimate, dark. Service was pefectly pleasant to us. I'd highly recommend it if you want to dance and have fun.

If you just turned drinking age, spent most of your 20 years in Ohio or some such place and think that T-shirts with signs are way cool for night on the town, then it is a place for you.
BTW service is atrocious. We were waiting for our drinks for good 15 minutes and left before they were delivered. I would be embarrassed to admit to my friends that I have been at this place.

This is one of my favorite places in NY. I've never had a problem at the door - even showed up once with a group of around 20 - was not on the list - was not with a party and they were cool enough to let us in on a Sat with little trouble. It gets really crowded some nights later on, but they keep it pretty open earlier in the night. Music is great and everyone gets dancing. Drinks are pretty average for NY - but the pint bottles of Bud Light (sounds silly I know) are fun - and the bottle are different and look pretty cool. Everyone talks about how trendy or 'pretty' the crowd can be - the nice thing is that the atmosphere is still pretty relaxed - and everyone is there to have a good time. In my opinion Sway never dissapoints.

One of Sway's greatest assets (and I stress the word 'ass' in assets) is their amazing staff. Pop in any given Friday to pay Mr. Kris King a visit. Have you seen his chompers? Maybe it was the tequila and red bull talking, but I think I'm in love... with SWAY.

Not the uber trendy club that you expect to find in NY, I found myself a girl as soon as I crossed the threshold of Sway. You mention hot girls in your write up (you were right) but nowhere do you mention the fact any of them would have what I like to call "the worst snoring problem ever." Good god was it a tough night, my new ol' lady (her nickname for herself, not mine) keep the whole building awake with her harsh, snorting noises caused by a vibration of the soft palate (after saturday, I looked it up). Nonetheless, the club is a keep. Rock on. D Sanchaise

Recently had a party there, and after bringing in over 150 people we still received an attitude from the stuck up doorman who gave nothing but attitude. The place itself is nice, NOT party-friendly. If you go with a small group you are set. Expect to pay for bottle service after 12, and understand that it is so NOT worth bottle service.

Pros: bartender, music, scene

Cons: doormen, crowded, too narrow

I threw a going away party here for a friend on a Friday and found the space was a bit small. Unless you can get the entire back, there is really not enough room to have a decent (10+) group of people. Not that it is crowded, it's just tough to slide your way through the narrow space.

We came in from a boat-trip round Manhattan. 4 norwegians and 7 new yorkers. A friend of a friend took care of us and got us all in -not to mention T at the door, he really is a cool guy!
Super fun inside, music from the 80's and lots of crazy people made my night unforgettable.

Me and 20 of my friends go to Sway at least twice a week because of Steve the bartender. Not only does he know how to make our drinks the way one could dream of but he's good to crack a joke and has the best smile and laugh on the planet! His service is quick, his drinks are good, and he's hot too!
Why get a drink anywhere else, it's free to get in and Steve is the best bartender around town.

The Turkish-Moroccan interior is fabulous and covers three rooms. The first room with the bar has plenty of big maroon seats and music quiet enough to talk. The back rooms are much louder, with the third boasting attractive blue ceramic tiles that feel straight out of a sultan's harem. The DJ occasionally veers into annoying '80s pop, while the attractive atmosphere could support more ethnic music. The bar is a good value and uncrowded, and the barmaids are friendly and refreshingly prompt. The doorstaff ask, "what party are you with?" and it's advisable to turn up early even if you're part of a party. Unfortunately, the doorstaff actually kept the place too quiet, as the bar was pretty slow at 2.30 on Saturday night.

this place was one of the rudest most pretencious places I have been in the city. i have been to many particular and expensive clubs too and for some ridiculous reason, this bar seemed to think it had just cause to be totally obnoxious to my 4 gorgeous girlfriends waiting on like to get in at 10pm. the totally obnoxious shabby lookin woman at the door turned us away just after they opened saying there were too many reservations and private parties. i have been inside before and this is a regular bar-and nothing more. they're on some ego trip turing people away like that-i give them 2 months with that pretencious attitude and they'll be begging for people to come in...no bar that regular can afford to be that particular-there's just too many better places to go

I went Friday 11/20 and had a great time. There was no line and I showed up with 3 women, one of whom knew the door guy, so we got right in. The place is very cool. Has a moroccan feel. Lots of seating. Good dance space. I recommend it.

Duh? Obiviously those who can't get in are just whining. After all these years Sway is still one of the best places around. They do a good job of keeping the scumbags out which I guess is what people refer to as an annoying door policy. Music's still great and it's mostly cool people inside.

bouncers stare up & down. no diversity at all, just pretenders/social climbers - didnt meet any, but easy enough to overhear idiocy. if u like meat markets, everyones frantically hurrying to find their lovebird of the night while tryin to look disinterested. the music here blows chunks-if youre into stinky funk then this is your place. catty women everywhere w/nasty attitude - example: intentional shoving cuz we're dancin w/guys theyre tryin for - reLAX! we just came for FUN so BACK UP! when 20 NewYorkers all think sway was terrible, there's got to be something wrong. could not mingle w/these people & this atmosphere was so blegh we left. we only stayed because of a birthday and because we made reservations (which went fine). what a mistake-3 hours wasted & can never get back...so if you're looking to chill & have fun, you won't like sway.

Pros: none!, leavin sway=best part, dont bother w/sway

Cons: , JuvenileAttitude,bore, bad dancers,all of it

Sway is still a great time. The point isn't really the random celebrities that still make an appearance, but is more that B&T are kept out. One can always count on getting a little drunk and dancing with some random girl on a table. Sway never dissapoints.

i am surprised at the reviews on the site so far...knock on wood. I had heard that there was a bad door policy before going, but funny thing is, the four times I have been, the door staff and the bar staff have been great! I love the fact that you can actually hear great music here and the drinks are affordable and there is no cover charge. Wondering if the other reviewers arent thinking of "Suede"...talk about rude door staff.
