Management changed??????
by letsdrinksalnite
My favorite friedly heart warming manager was gone when I came back from my trip. Very disappointed....
Sushi rolls were same as b4 Chinese style big rolls (very fresh though) nothing so special about them.
Service....what's goin on??? A couple of servers are always running but others kept standing doing nothing whatsoever but chatting. Where was a new manager?????
Drinks....came extremely slow.......and no consistancy......One drink has always differnt tastes...
If you have a chance to go, don't sit at bar, it's so filthy, and you don't wanna see.
All workers there, chef, waitstaff, hostess....all look upset.
I felt bad.......unfortunately, I may not go back there as customers. SIMPLY NOT WORTH IT.
They changed music recently.....I'm ok with it but my friends and I thought it's not good for restaurant, maybe for cheap lounge. We all felt like we're in the gastro pub or something.
Prices kept going up, up, and up. The quality of all kept going down, down, and down.
The owner/owners must have money but no brains.
Some day, we may see them in the show "kitchen nightmares" lol.
Pros: decor
Cons: manager, speed, drinks, music

Amazing value, great food.

I have been going to Damo Damo since they first opened years ago.
They have consistently fresh fish and for the quality, they really could charge more than they do.
They recently revamped their decor and it seems it's always busy, but it's still one of those places you can usually get a table at without needing reservations.
The waiters always greet us warmly and call us by our names! A true gem.
Highly Recommended!
Pros: Ambience, Extremely Fresh Sushi, The Sakura roll!

Good sushi, poor service
by arik10
Sushi was excellent. It was fresh and tasted well in your mouth. In terms of prices, it was reasonably priced for its quality. The only problem was the service. It was very slow since this place seemed to have only 2 waitresses and we had to ask for service several times. Our drinks arrived very late and water was not offered.
Overall, very good sushi for its price, but expect service to take some time.
Pros: good sushi, good decour
Cons: poor service

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME
by cord77
This place has taken all the good things they have done in the past, and multiplied them! They just renovated the whole place- inside and out, and in the process created a comfortable, loungy atmosphere that is hard to find in this area. The food has never been better (heard they recently changed chefs). The quality of fish is outstanding. I have always come for lunch, but the new decor makes it a viable dinner option too. Must try: Blackened Tuna Roll, Black Cod appetizer, Beef tataki, and of course the sashimi.
Pros: New Decor, Atmoshere, Service, Freshness

Good improvement

I have been going to this ever-changing sushi joint since I started working at the Time warner center(about 2 years now) I do agree with some of the past reviews, but they are from so long ago that I think people should see all that this place has to offer. The service has done a total 360', I like cute waitresses like any normal guy but they were kind of ditsy before. Now they actually recommend dishes, and know what drinks to have with your food. Talking about drinks, I thanked God when they finally started making some real drinks.
2 drinks that I am crazy about are the "Asian Pear Martini" and the "Mango Mojito" must haves.
The chef must have changed cause the dishes coming out of the kitchen look great now, and desserts are finally something other than tempura ice cream, My fav is the chocolate cake topped with hot bananas.
Pros: Always a good seat by the window
Cons: closed from 3 pm to 5 pm

Good Food

The sushi is average. The service is below street level; horrendous. A nice place to dine alone or with friends... but I will probably never go back because the service was not too good.
Pros: sushi, near trains, hudson hotel and central park
Cons: service

Great Food, Horrendous Service
by gmoht
Despite the institutional design we were pleasantly surprised by the food. The service was another story. It began when the waiter broke a glass of red wine and I ended up with wine and glass shards in my lap. This was followed by another diner getting smacked in the head with a plate as we were being served. As if that wasnt enough, after another in the group mentioned that a portion of the sushi on her plate was not what she had ordered, the waiter came back with chopsticks and started to remove it (as she was eating!) We were very understanding and tried to make the most of the night but were surprised that no one offered to make good. (No dry cleaning, no bill adjustment). All that was offered was a replacement for the glass of wine. Regardless of the good food, I cannot recommend this place.
Pros: Good Food
Cons: Terrible Service, Crowded, Rude

Excellent sushi!

Don't let the outside appearance fool you - their sushi is the best! They have so many different kinds (I love the white tuna!) and the service is good. It's hidden on a quieter street by the Time Warner Center but you should definitely try it if you like good, quality sushi.

Fresh Sushi
by sushifan1975
My sushi experience here was very positive. Our waiter was very helpful. A little crowded since it was a Friday night but lively to put it nicely. The fish was very fresh--definitely higher quality than most stuff you find in lower Manhattan. Decor was modern minimalist, not your average traditional Japanese sushi house. It was refreshing to meet a sushi chef who actually spoke Japanese. The special rolls were delicious. I would return to this restaurant.
Pros: Cool decor, Fresh sushi, Creative appetizers

Solid choice for good sushi
by nygourmand
This is not a restaurant I will go out of my way to eat at, but I certainly enjoyed my meal there. The decor is sparse and elegant, the service warm (though my waitress was occasionally difficult to find), and the sushi fresh. The superb eel more than made up for the watery green tea, and they were kind enough to give me complimentary ice cream for having me change tables early on to accomodate a large party. If I happened to be in the Columbus Circle neighborhood around dinnertime, I would definitely go back.
Pros: Nice ambience, Fresh sushi, Warm service
Cons: , Expensive a la carte
