Arrived around 10:30 on a Wednesday night after late flight . We were exhausted and couldn't be bothered to put on coats, gloves, etc to brave the weather. This was inside the hotel. The place was pretty much empty, not surprising as it was mid-week and January.

Yet, per the host, the only table available was the one immediately adjacent to another couple. By immediately adjacent, I mean so close I could smell the guy's aftershave. It was a first date; we know because we heard every word. They were adorable.

We were surrounded by empty tables. There was no reason for us to be jammed together. The place was empty. But, when we requested one of those many empty tables, the host claimed they were all reserved by after-theater diners. I had to refrain from asking which version of reality he was logged into. Again, it was a Wednesday night in January and, oh, right, we're in the midst of a recession.

It took over 20 minutes for a waitress to take our order, another 30 before our entrees arrived. The rolls were rock hard and could have served as lacrosse balls. They'd clearly been over-microwaved but were lukewarm. The butter was frozen.

Entrees, when they finally arrived, were decent but nothing special. Service was distracted and haphazard.

As for the after-theater rush - that consisted of three guys who came in at 11 for drinks.

It's New York, there are hundreds of great restaurants, many within 1 block. Don't bother with this one.

My friends and I went to Blue Fin after seeing a show. We ended up showing up a half hour earlier than our reservation. We were seated immediately. We started off with a selection of sushi rolls. Those were gone in no time. I had the Lobster/Shrimp bisque. I really wanted to order another one as it was so good. Instead of having lumps of lobster and shrimp on top, there was a little salad...almost like a seafood salad. The mixture of the celery and green onions added a little extra flavor to the bisque. Only thing that I would have asked for would have been a little topping of creme fraiche. I had the Sauteed hailbut with lemon herb gnocchi, mushrooms and lump crab. I'm not a fan of gnocchi so I only ate a couple of them. The halibut was so light and flaky. Everything was cooked perfectly. For dessert I had the Upside Down Chocolate Souffle cake. OH MY GOD!!!! It was chocolate goodness. There was a nice size scoop of ice cream along side the cake. We were so full that I wanted to get a room at the W and just sleep off the food coma that I was in. The only reason I won't give 5 stars is because of the placement of the downstairs bathroom. It's right near the kitchen and server area. It's a unisex bathroom which isn't a big deal but there's only one. There's no good place to stand if there's a line. I would have gone upstairs but my foot was in an air cast and stairs are not the best for me. Other than that, I'd go back to Blue Fin again. The food was excellent.

chose this restaurant because of its location and online menu, but when ordering, was told that there was a foie gras special as an appetizer. unless you are familiar with this barbaric practice of expanding and extracting goose liver through torture and suffering, no reason to think this is an issue. if you aren't familiar with it, please educate yourself and insist that restaurants ban this item from their selections. i would never have selected blue fin had they listed this option on their online menu (which may be why they keep it a secret). blue fin - if you're listening - please do the right thing so that i can come back in good conscience and enjoy other items on your menu. otherwise, portions were small but tasty, prices are steep, and service was excellent. if you're a local, sit upstairs away from the hordes of tourists in TS.

Pretty much the only restaurant worth going to in Times Square. Small bar looking out to the street, but big beautiful restaurant in the back. Typical BR guest restaurant: great food, service, wine, drinks and atmosphere.

I ate at a lot of sushi places and this place has the best yellow tail. It melts in your mouth you dont even need teeth to chew it. All of their sushi is good you cant go wrong. I ate here many times and i've never been dissapointed. If there was a 6th star this place would get it for sure.

I went here last night with my friend for Summer Restaurant Week. Ironically I did not order from the Restaurant Week menu as there was nothing interesting to choose from. So I ordered the tuna crusted with sesame seeds, cooked medium rare. The tuna itself was delicious, prepared just the way I like it, however I was dispointed with so little sides (came with white rice and vegetables). Interesting enough this place does have one of the freshest seafood I've ever had. (I also ordered the spicy tuna roll, very yummy). The ambiance was great too although it's a tourist's spot since it's in Times Square, so the noise was loud. I recommend going there later than 8pm to avoid the broadway show crowd.

We ducked in to Blue Fin when it started sleeting after being dragged to Grease! The all glass bar on the street level was packed but the host told us there was seating on the second level. After making our way up a gorgeous wide stairway we found our new favorite Times Square bar! There was a jazz duo in the corner and a great wine selection to help warm us up. Then we found out the full dinner menu was available at the bar and my wife had a bowl of great clam chowder and I had a crab cake that was a little small but perfectly tender and not too greasy. We were so happy to have found the place that we had another glass of wine and stayed until the band packed up and went home.
I never have high hopes in Times Square but this was one of those memorable nights when you stumble upon something that is just perfect. I wonder how much longer until word gets out and the upstairs bar is as crowded as the downstairs.

The girls and I tried this place out for Restaurant Week and I must say that I was impressed. The Staff was warm and attentive (the manager was a cutie) and the seafood was really fresh. The decor was impeccable and this all nestled in the lunacy called Times Square, lol. A definate must do for seafood lovers who can appreciate a trendy atmosphere. I enjoyed everything that I ate and I am not a seafood lover and very picky at that. They have an extensive wine selection so if you'd rather not dine there's always the bar. I'd go back, next time preferrably on a date.

Blue Fin is a great place for seafood lovers. The decor and atmosphere are very beautiful. They have two great bars if you just want to hang out for a drink. The staff is friendly and attentive. If only two of you are dining, you don?t even need reservations, as the place is huge and they turn tables pretty quickly. The sushi is very fresh at this place, and they put together delicious options. However, the best thing about this place is the fish. They take high quality cuts of fish and prepare it in innovative ways with great ingredients. The specials always change and are always awesome. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes fish. The desserts are good, typical of the BRGUEST restaurant group.

I tried out Blue Fin recently, taking advantage of the restaurant week prix fixe deal, and was very impressed. The staff was what impressed me most. I expect a good meal and well-made cocktails at an upscale restaurant, and they delivered. I also sometimes, sadly, expect a little attitude from the staff, but I was pleasantly surprised when the hostess offered to seat me as soon as I arrived, which was a little before our actual reservation, and had no problem when I told her one of our party would be a half hour late. Many places won't seat you until everyone is there. Our waiter was also very good, managing to appear whenever we wanted something, but never hovering. It really is the service that can make or break a restaurant, no matter how good the food is, and Blue Fin is impeccable in service and atmosphere. As far as the food goes, my friends are I thought it was very good, I especially loved the cheesecake desert. The only advice I would give to anyone is if you order soup and you have a preference for hot or cold soup, ask. I had the corn soup with crab as an appatizer and it was very tasty, but I was a little surprised that it was served cold, as I usually just assume most soups are served hot. All in all, we had a very pleasant meal and I would definately return.

I still can't bring myself to say the $700 I spent for two was worth it, but once I forget about that (with the help of champagne at the time) it was a wonderful experience. It's not the best position on the Square, but it's the best all things considered.

Server was very friendly and unusually accommodating for New York, food was good, ambiance was good save for a cretin manager going around with a pair of scissors randomly and systematically stabbing balloons starting at 10PM. The look on the guy's face was disturbing - just put the scissors down champ.

When I found out my boss reserved a table for 4 of us at the Blue Fin during our annual kick-off meeting, I immediately went to Citysearch to read reviews. They were all over the board from very bad to very good. I went with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive. Two of us thought the food was 'good', and two of us (including me) thought it was Fantastic! I had the tuna tartare appetizer (fresh, tasty, nice presentation) and the chilean sea bass entree which was out of this world. My boss had the seared tuna entree and was thrilled with it. Our coworkers had the halibut entree and the salmon entree which they liked, but said it was nothing special. Dessert was very good, the cherry-chocolate tasting was really quite a treat with 3 different desserts to sample. The almond pear tart was also very good. We sat in a booth on the ground floor, in the back of the restaurant. It was very comfortable, though a bit noisy. I plan to go back sometime with my husband who is a seafood lover.

It's so sad that most of the restaurants in times square are so horrible. Guess it's because they constantly have an influx of tourists so they don't need to worry about actually having a decent establishment. Blue Fin's ambiance is quite nice and the waiters are very friendly. That being said their food is nothing more than average. I own a seafood store so am quite picky about the seafood I eat. Not saying the fish was old but was not particularly fresh. The portions are TINY and the price does not match. Think a main course fish entree was about $40-$45 and it was about 6 ounces of fish. Most of the fish were overcooked. Sauces were average. Not worth your visit unless you're a tourist interested in seeing the big city, big lights.

This is a very good restaurant. Great location in Times Square. Everything we ordered was rated good to excellent. The service was really special. I was with a large group and they did a nice job covering the tables on a timely basis. I had the Big Eye Tuna entree and it was beautifully prepared. The place is pricey but after all you are in New York. Price value is good.
I returned in Nov 2007. Still a great place. Sea Bass was amazing!

Lets begin with the customer service. We had to wait long periods of time between sightings of our waitor, and when he did wait on us, it seemed like forever before he would bring back whatever it was we requested. Thank goodness we weren't on a schedule, because we were stuck there for over 3 hours waiting on the waitor to wait on us!
The sushi was horrible. They bring out 5 small pieces and charge a small fortune for sushi that is barely edible. I spat my first piece back into my napkin and didn't finish the remaining.
The atmoshphere was pleasant and the martinis were good, but too expensive.
My husband and I ordered two martinis each and one order of salmon sushi and our bill came to $110.00. I was not impressed.

You would think that a restaurant in the theatre district would have their pre-theatre dining experience down. Alas, that is not the case. If I have to call the day of to confirm my end, they better have my reservation when I walk in. It wasn't. Ended up sitting @ Sushi Bar for a B'day dinner. Food was late and we left.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! One of my new, favorite places in Manhattan! Went there for a Blue Fin Martini before catching Toni and Tina's Wedding around the corner. We were a large group of friends that had a great time at the upstairs bar. The martini drinks were incredible. I also personally recommend the sushi and crabcakes (yum, yum). Thank heavens we had something to eat at the Blue Fin, because the food was yuck at the wedding! It was pricey but worth it! I loved that you could sit and drink at the bar downstairs and people watch over time square or march upstairs to dine in their beautiful restaurant like you were a million miles away from it all. Can't wait to go back in June!

Pros: Blue Fin Martini , Sushi

Cons: Loud, busy time square

Elegant decor, great food, substantial wine list, MAGNIFICENT DESSERTS. Worth every penny! You must try Creme Brule -- its served with a demitasse spoon dipped in white chocolate. All the other deserts are great, too. Ive tried various dishes over time and was never even slightly disappointed.

I took a gamble recently on this restaurant. I had 6 colleagues with me with VERY different tastes and food preferences. I had been to Blue Fin previously for drinks and appetizers and thought the atmosphere was very good (expecially for people watching). As it turned out, all of us had xcellent meals and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We even had a trainee waiter who had never waited on a table before. He did an excellent job. The service was prompt, friendly and VERY accomodating!

Sure it may be pricey... but what NY upper scale restaurant isn't.... especially in a centralized touristy area like Time Square!!!!!!!

If you want a great dining experience with picky colleagues or even a group of friends... this is a great place to go for that "total" dining experience!

My wife and I had Tuna Tartar, Chilean Sea Bass w/roasted red peppers, and crusted Halibut w/feta gnocchi. The tuna tartar was flavorful and excellent, the olive relish was wonderful on bread. My wife raved about the sea bass, it was moist and cooked perfectly. I swooned over my halibut, but the feta gnocchi was almost as good. Our server, Christian, was extremely knowledgeable on wine, gave us several excellent options along with the bottle we selected. Dessert was also to die for, save room. With tip, we spent about $150 and didn't regret a penny; one of the best meals we've had

I went here with 3 girlfriends and we had a blast....when I first walked in to wait for my girlfriends arrival...I met two guys at the bar....the service at the bar was pretty decent. For dinner, I had salmon and friends had crab cakes and tuna which they raved about....personally, I can't say the food was that great but the atmosphere and cute guys was well worth the hefty tab....this time.

We love to come here before seeing a show in Times Square. The food is always fresh and excellent and the ambiance is very hip and trendy. I especially love their tuna tartar appetizer which is a delicious concoction of tuna with scallions and seaweed mushed up with sesame oil. Mmm mmm good! They have a nice selection of bread with flatbreads and all kinds of yummy other stuff. The fish and the sushi entrees are always excellent and the waitstaff is always very accomodating. The bar is cool too. I always enjoy dining at Blue Fin and I'll be back many more times!

Last year when I was in NYC I made it for Superbowl night. Being Brits in NYC the last time we saw men running around in shoulder pads was when we went to a Spandau Ballet concert in the 80s. So we opted for the theatre and asked the concierge to recommend a close by restaurant that wouldnt be closing early for the Football. We ended up in the Blue Fin Restaurant which as the name might suggest favours fish on the menu. Ive had good fish and been disappointingly hungry afterwards and I have had good fish when I have been so stuffed that I could hardly walk out afterwards. The Blue Fin definitely fits the latter bill. In truth the portions were absolutely fine for most tastes and the quality towards the better I have had. The problem came when the guys thought they could have a platter on the side while we were waiting for the main course. Dont go there. Suffice it to say that the food comes out not on a platter, but on a stack of four and was carried out by three waiters. The Only thing I like was the fresh sushi they had made, is some of the best I taste for the money I paid for.

Way too pricey for the bad service and small portions. Go to someplace off the beaten path away from Times Square. You'll be disappointed. Too many restaurants in NYC to waste time here.

This is the place to take your out-of-town guests for a Martini while looking out at the Great White Way. Be sure to get their signature drinks as long as you're going to blow that kind of cash.

If you stay for dinner, the crowd is somewhat tourist, and brave midtown regulars. Nice presenentation, decent meals, nothing to positively write home about.

The food quality was mediocre for the price. I had the big-eye tuna (one of their most popular dishes according to the waitress) and was unimpressed. Veggies were lukewarm, the tuna itself was dry, and the whole think tasted of too much soy sauce. My wife had the raw sampler which was a real rip-off - 2 small shrimp, 2 crawfish, 4 oysters, a couple of small clams, and about a dozen dried out mussels, all for the value price of $75! Rediculous.

Blue Fin is the best restaurant in Times Square. Very cool atmosphere, great menu (the lobster was awesome) and great service. I would highly recommend.

Having eaten at may restaurants in this city, Blue Fin pales in comparison. The service was really sub par. When you have to chase your meal, it's annoying. Furthermore, there were mistakes and just general misteps (appetizer came before the drinks, wrong dish, bus boys grabbing plates that were still being eaten from). This might be sort of forgivebale if the prices were not so high, but they are. I expect more, and get better in other similarly priced restaraunts. Not worth it.

For $25 lunch entrees, you might expect better service. It was as if the waiter was above doing his job. I'm not normally too much of a complainer, but when you cant get your bread refilled after asking three times and have an hour and 15 minute lunch, you start to wonder what you're paying for.

Modern, sleek and trendy this restaurant serves up excellent seafood and makes you wonder if you're really in Times Square. Prices here aren't cheap with mains around $26-28 and costly drinks. Eating here last night my friends and I ordered 2 appetizer dishes each, we shared some East & West Oysters then I had the crab cake for a main. The appetizer portions are just that so if you're famished go for the main - we weren't and the meal was perfect. Other dishes ordered was the salmon, roll and caeser salad all of which were excellent. If I'm in Times Square looking for a dinner venue Blue Fin will be on the list.

Very nice place to go AFTER the theater. Sushi was excellent. Try the BBQ eel. Great Manhattan from the bar.

You can't fault them for serving up some pretty good food, even if it's a bit overpriced. But the place is overairconditioned to the point that if you sit on the upper deck, you have a better than average chance to catch a cold or at least dine on a side of AC condensation drops - no fun. Obviously a perennial problem, since they have a special sponge on a stick to try to keep diners dry. Didn't work with this one.

The food was pretty average as was the service. However the sushi bar was a better option within the restaurant, and the front bar looking into Time SQ is good fun. Worth a visit and even worth going back.

This place has some problems.
1. Our napkins were damp.
2. Our waiter forgot about us for long periods of time and never even offered us a dessert menu. (I'm fairly thin, so I don't think he was putting me on a diet.)
3. You have to tip a guy in the restroom if you want a paper towel to dry your hands. (A not uncommon, but disgusting practice. I will not return to any restaurant that does this.)
4. The food was good. But it's good at lots of other restaurants with better service.

The bar looked like fun, but the restaurant didn't exactly seem packed. Not surprising.

Dined here late night and had impeccable service and amazingly fresh seafood for a Time Square location. The wine list is one of the best in the city, with vintages that are hard to get anywhere and beautiful surroundings for the dining experience. Additionally the bar upstairs is picturesque and spacious, even though the techno music is horrible.

Just went there with family and the ambience is quite nice. I did see a show afterwards so it's location was extremely appreciated. However, considering the prices (avg $25/entree), the food did not meet expectations at all. If you care more about where you eat than what you eat, go. Otherwise, skip it.

Blue Fin is ground level Times Square and it has tons of windows which gave me an uneasy too busy times square feeling. It's all too touristy for my taste. The food is not superior, the wait staff not attentive and overall I wouldn't recommend this dining experience. Being a younger person I got lots of attitude from staff- I was entertaining a client there. Never again, I'll stay downtown.

Walking around Times Square can leave anyone weary. However, upon entering Blue Fin, one easily becomes relaxed. Blue Fin is composed of 2 levels with high ceilings and a full length wall mural of sand and birds. The decor is decidely artsy chic with a mix of hotel patrons and trendy new yorkers. Overall service was average, entrees were standard to pretty good and desserts and appetizers were great. Prices are decent given the caliber of the restaurant. Great place to have a leisurely meal while soaking in the terrific ambience.
