Had one of my best meals at Meli Melo last evening. The portions are generous, the presentation gorgeous and the prices great. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, can't wait to go back.

I have been going to Meli Melo for the past five years, I work in the neighborhood and have never been disappointed, the price is right, and the food is awesome by far the best around here.
The New York Times wrote about the owner and they were right! Highly recommend the place.

Pros: great relief from the heat and the food was great

Meal did not live up to expectations, and was poor value for money.

The pate tasted as if it had been bought from a supermarket, and I'd rather chew an old sock than repeat the steak. Creme brulee dessert was similarly disappointing.

Everyone in the neighborhood knows that Meli Melo is a place to avoid. The only people who eat there are bridge & tunnel types and tourists who don't know better.

Have you ever walked by a place and just by looking at what's on the plates and the diners' faces you know it's a dud. Well, that's Meli Melo for you.

And by the way the positive reviews are by SHILLS. Notice that almost all of them contain allcaps and three exclamation marks? LIKE THIS!!! Dead giveaway.

Meli Melo is one of the most understated places in the city, we loved it when we visited again last month - and the price was right too! We loved the filet of sole stuffed with smoked salmon and our cousin thought the lamb tagine was a bit spicy, but still very tasty. We went there last night and the steaks are incredible and there is a reason they still do the duck the old -fashioned way - it is simply the best!!! You will enjoy the great atmosphere, good food , discreet service, in this 4 stars place. MELI MELO - A MUST VISIT!!!!!

I went to Meli Melo because it is my brothers favorite restaurant. I was impressed. The waitresses were very knowledgeable and polite. The food was superb and I am a regular food kind of guy. But the way the food was presented as well as the combination of "3's" made for a wonderful dinning experience. The location is just great.I would recommend to anyone.

With about thirty minutes to go until we caught the Acela train, we asked the concierge at the Carlton on Madison if there was any place where we could catch a quick bite, that served Italian food. The concierge referred us to Meli Melo. Upon reaching the restaurant we were seated quickly and promptly (as we were the only ones there!) and given our menus. The waitress was very attentive, and the ambience was there. We ordered the Fisherman's Stew (shrimp, cod, and seafood), ravioli, and salad. The food was horrible; the shrimp was reheated, foul, and unedible. Everything else was worse than the shrimp. The ravioli was the only average dish, the salad had no tomato, was just a mixed-green salad, the taste was 'blah', some of the leaves were wilting, and the vinigrette was the most bland thing imaginable. (Just how do you mess up a salad?!) After a few bites, we returned the F-Stew unaccosted. The salad got a few bites as we tried to manuever around the bad leaves and we returned the ravioli half-eaten. On the way home on the train, we all felt sick to our stomachs. And what did this horrible dinner cost us? Around $78 dollars.

Went here in hopes for some good food, and was completely disappointed. The wine was good but other than that the food is not worth it. The entrees were dry and lacking flavor. Typically we clear our plates and the fact that we couldn?t even make it though half our entrees says enough. After $100 for two people we left there hungry and finished our diners at McDonalds.

We had such high expectations for this restaurant after reviewing their website and reading other reviews on citysearch. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. We were seated promptly but it went downhill after that. We asked about the amuze bouche and our waiter didn't know what we were talking about. We asked someone else and were told that it was goat cheese stuffed pastry...so we thought we would try it. We ordered appetizers as well. The crab cakes were so bad that we had to struggle to swallow the small bite that we took. I can't even describe what was wrong with them except that I really don't think they used crab! I don't know how anyone could make crab taste that disgusting. We were brought the amuze bouche after the appetizers and they were equally disappointing. It was gorgonzola cheese, not goat cheese and it was melted into a small stale pastry cup....really, really unappetizing. We ordered the duck, the lamb, chicken scallopini and the scallop special. The meat on the dishes was adequate but every single side dish was terrible. I had the barley risotto and it tasted like cardboard with absolutely no seasoning or creaminess at all. The best dish was the scallops but again the side dish was terrible. The desserts were not good either. We ordered a chocolate dessert, I can't remember the name. It was a chocolate ganache type mousse served in what is best described as a used coffee filter. When it came to the table we laughed about how it looked like they had just cleaned out the coffee maker on our plate. The chocolate was good but the "wrapper" was inedible. The cheesecake was a joke, we had better at the deli around the corner. The creme brulee was decent. All in all, it was a terrible dinner and I would never, ever eat there again. I recommend that you don't risk it either.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a former colleague. She happens to personally know chef Bernard Ros, and called in the reservation for me. She has been going to Meli Melo for the past 10 years with her family. However, please don't let that make you think the service would have been any different. I don't believe that a restaurant of such caliber could treat their ordinary guests any differently than the guests that they have mutual friends with. The waitresses were amazingly sweet, on point, and genuine. Mr. Ros had greeted us personally, and sent out many delicious foods that we hadn't even ordered, to our table. I'll admit, my boyfriend and I looked at the website prior to going to the restaurant to get an idea of the menu. We assumed food portions would be artistically beautiful, yet tiny. A bit skeptical. We were wrong! The food was so delicious and filling. And everything was beautiful.

Mr. Bernard Ros is an amazing chef, and person as well.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful anniversary, thanks to Bernard, his restaurant, and staff.

I have been here several times since I found this great restaurant with great service and great food. One of my favorite drinks before dinner is a "Negroni" and I most say that in many other places, they don't know how to make a good one, Meli Melo does.
The owner-chef Bernard is a perfect host. I will be back many times more.

My wife and I were cruising on the Mediterranean Sea and at our table for diner was a couple of japanese people and one night we exchanged some restaurant names in New York. To my great surprise they suggested Meli Melo restaurant, on Madison and 30th street, 2 blocks from my office on Park and 31st street. It is funny that we have to go overseas to learn what is happening in our garden. I want to share with you this charming place, with greatest seafood and one of the greatest veal chops, topped with porcini mushroom. I highly recommend this place - put it on your must list!

I have walked past this place several times not realizing the treasure that waited within. I have had the pleasure of eating at several upscale restaurants in New York and this place was a pleasant surprise because it is so unassuming. The services was warm and friendly. Chef Bernard came by to give us recommendations. The foods presentation and flavor was impeccable. The escargot was delicious! I had the angus steak which was delicious but my friend's dish of cold salmon with sea scallops and asparagus was amazing...truly So fresh, the perfect summer time dish. The desserts look like works of art and tasted like a small slice of heaven. They almost seemed too pretty to eat but we couldn't resist.

And the pino grigio was a the perfect compliment...unfortunately I forgot the name but I'm sure you could as Chef Bernard will match your food perfectly.
Wonderful quiet evening with friends that I will never forget.

Dear readers,
I live on Madison Avenue and 28th Street in Manhattan for the past 20 years and this was a very low-profile neighborhood. When Meli Melo opened its doors, about 12 years ago, the blessing came with chef Bernard and his followers - his regular crowd and customers have changed this area, so it became a top place! Since then 5 high-rise buildings are up and 9 hotels have been converted to 3 and 4 stars classy places!!! Many star-chefs and sophisticated restaurants opened around or near by and lot of them are long gone and vanished.
No other chef has done such a job for New York City. I still have in my drawer a copy of the Newsday from June 23rd, 2003 - "Meli Melo keep on asserting itself being the best in midtown we all are glad to have this restaurant in our neighborhood and we highly recommend it." This is still true today!!!

Dear New Yorkers!

I usually don't waste my time reading cries on the Internet, but this one I can not pass on!

I read globadda's martyr talk about his Valentine Day dinner, dated April 2nd 2007 - it took him 48 days to wake up and still remember all this details?!?!? Strange statements - every move made by the waiter remembered and observing what was going in the restaurant instead of enjoying his Valentine day???? Sounding like a frustrated waiter upset with himself and bringing his problems to a dinner table on such a day?!?!?!? And 20% service? Is it something new in New York? No! I think globadda should have left after the first 5 minutes after he entered the room, choose another restaurant or go home, cook & serve something clean and be happy, with nobody to blame !!! And to have even more opportunities to cook for Mother's and Father's days, New Year's eve and more... There are always those weekends with nothing else to do - cook at home and enjoy eating away from people and social life!!!

I am a waiter in an upscale New York restaurant and Meli Melo does a better job for half the price. It is the best deal in midtown Manhattan - I highly recommend it!!!

Dear readers & food lovers,

For many years i have been faithfully following the suggestions of good eating in the city, reading regularly the New York Times, TimeOut and many more. While mostly disappointed, simply put 8 times out of 10, and still in search for simplicity and good execution in fresh food that is reasonably priced, one day while walking on Madison Avenue I have discovered this little jewel that I want to share with all of you, called Meli Melo - between 29th and 30th Street. Bring you friends and family - I highly recommend it!

On Valentines I took my wife to MeliMelo. When we arrived and weren't seated where we wanted even though there were seats available in the back, but the person seating us didn't seem to want to clean up the table of our interest. It did feel that there were simply not enough servers and waiters for such a densely packed restaurant. In any case, once seated it took us 10 minutes just to get menu and probably another 20 just to get a waiter come to us. Once he did he never asked us whether we want water, never brought bread and so forth. Later on we asked server for water and were served tap??, somehow it never occurred to anyone that we may want sparkling or bottled water. At the point I got up and got waiter to come to us telling him that we're not getting his attention (yes everyone was busy but how can a waiter pass table 3-4 times without simply asking if anything is OK?). The same waiter was asked for a wine list yet failed to come back and take the order for wine so we never got it and decided in favor of sparking water instead.

We asked server about Amuse Bouches that was listed on the menu yet he told us that it meant "have a good appetite"?? Our table was also broken and when we asked to be reseated at one next to us, server refused to seat us where we wanted and seated us at another table. The table wasn't even properly cleaned up as we found a straw?? under table cover.

Main course dishes: lamb was burned and we could taste a charcoal while duck was completely stiff and was barely touched (which waiter didn't seem to even acknowledge). The complimentary wine (after theater promotion) was brought not with deserts (that were barely touch either) but at the very end when after three-hour torture and patience on our part we voted for the check. And they added a 20 percent gratuity charge for the most horrible service

Meli Melo is right by where I work so I often go there for lunch with co-workers. It is one of my favorite dining places during spring and summer when I can actually sit in one of those outdoor tables. The food is amazing, even though it's French, but they also add different ethnic essences to their menu, my favorite dishes are the roasted duck and the lamb chops. I like how the servers are not over attentive.

My office is just across the street from Meli Melo and for the past 10 years I've been seeing trucks delivering every day fresh fish and meat! I am the customer with my family in this Manhattan jewel for a decade - I love the snapper when available as one of the specials, my husband loves the New York steak, and our son can't miss the veal chops. The service is consistent, discrete, and efficient.

In a few words - Meli Melo is a great value for your bucks!

We had the best dinner in a long time! We come very often to New York from Minnesota and after trying many places, now we know where to go - Meli Melo! Great food, vines, and fabulous deserts!!!!! And the owner who greets you with a smile and hospitality (thank you Bernard for the bottle of that delicious red vine)!

We are coming back to Meli Melo - that is for sure!

This was by far the worst place we have ever had dinner. The food was not fresh and the service was nonexistent. The wine list was incomplete and appeared to be heavily overpriced although lacking vintage and complete producer names, it's tough to say. This place is begging for "Restaurant Makeover" to show them how to create fresh and vibrant dishes!

Meli Melo is simply an average restaurant. The food is good, not great. The bread given to us was nearly stale, certainly far from fresh. My chicken dish was good but the potatoes were terrible. The wine list is ridiulously over-priced. The restuarant itself has no feel or decor. Service was spotty at best, I had to ask a couple of times to get more water and the waitresses were rarely available. If you are in the neighborhood keep walking because there are definitely better options than Meli Melo.

Meli Melo is simply an average restaurant. The food is good, not great. The bread given to us was nearly stale, certainly far from fresh. My chicken dish was good but the potatoes were terrible. Cons: Overpriced and food is just ok

.

Lame atmosphere. Strange music. Poor wine list. Sub-par food (even the bread and butter was poor quality). Mediocre service.

My wife and I had a late lunch at the restaurant, I ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer and the lobster ravioli (both of which were delicious) and my wife had the duck which was excellent. We ordered a bottle of wine whichwas very good and reasonably priced.

As others have noted, the restaurant was not particularly crowded, we were seated promptly and the service provided by our french waitress, while not five star, was reasonably good. We particularly liked the ambiance (fresh flowers, the mural is charming and the cozy, quite feel of the place).

The crabcakes were cold, and the place was empty for lunch. I took my mom here. She got the entrecote de paris (stringy, also cold). I got a chicken breast roulade (not cold, but greasy greasy) which was stuffed with goat cheese (good) and HALF A STALK of asparagus. The waiter was okay, but he got surly when we didn't order wine (at 11:45 in the morning?), or dessert. The best I can say is that the place is cute (there's a neat mural that wraps around the dining room), and if the crabcakes and steak had been hot, they would have been tasty.

We were there on a recent Saturday night and enjoyed the experience. My wife liked her lobster ravioli better than I liked the hangar (flank) steak.
I wore a coat and tie but others in the place seemed dressed to go bowling. The flowers are a nice touch and our Russian waiter was good but not very friendly. The wine list is good and very well priced. The place is pretty small but that makes it cosy.

I went here for lunch today and I was apalled by the service! There were only 3 other tables occupied in the place, so it's not like it was crowded. When having to get back to work, and requesting our check, it took over 20 minutes for it to be brought to us, and that was after it took them 35 minutes to bring out my field greens salad! And it wasn't even that great.

My girlfriend took me for a special occasion and now we are regulars.
The flower arrangements were beautiful and fresh. The complete dinner was a definite bargain, the food was quite well presented, especially the desserts. The wait staff was very attentive and quite cute.
It's one of those places that is good for small parties or just hanging out late night for a quiet drink and an appetizer. Definitely a locals type feeling.

WENT TO THIS LOVELY BISTRO FOR DINNER THIS WEEK. OUTSTANDING VALUE AND SERVICE. HANGER STEAK IS ONE OF THE BEST I'VE HAD OUTSIDE OF PARIS! PRESENTATION IS TOP QUALITY, AND THE PRICING IS VERY REASONABLE. SERVICE IS GOOD, ALTHOUGH MY FRENCH WENT IGNORED, UNTIL WE REALIZED THEY WERE EASTERN EUROPEAN. GREAT SPOT!
FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS ARE 4STAR RESTAUANT QUALITY, TOO.
