Ratings_icons Century Grill is AWESOME!

Gail S.

My husband and I chose the Century Grill for my birthday party (approx. 40 people) on 9/12/09, as it is our favorite restaurant downtown. Not only were they extremely accomodating with the menu, the food was great! (Century Burger rocks!) Several of our guests were so impressed by the food they made comments that they would be back for dinner. The night of the party, Otis kept checking back with us to make sure everything was OK - which it was.
We've NEVER had a bad meal or experience there. It's just a great, comfortable place to hang out, drink and eat good food.
AND GOD BLESS BACON NIGHT!

Ratings_icons Sataurday at Century Grill

I went to the Century Grill on 2/14 with a bunch of folk before going to Mama Mia. Maybe some of the people from our group had a decent meal, but mine left a lot to be desired. First of all, I would expect a chicken wrap to have something more in it. All that was in the wrap was chicken and lettuce with some ranch dressing. Most places have cheese, cucumber, tomato, something more than just lettuce and chicken. And the chicken was on the tough side. The pasta salad was probably okay. I couldn't eat that due to the enormous amount of onion in it, but can't really blame that on them. The brownie for dessert was good. I did eat that! Asked for unsweetened iced tea with extra lemon...the waitress who brought our drinks told us we would have to taste them and decide who's was diet and who's was regular Pepsi...that seemed a bit odd. As she slammed my ice tea down on the table, the drink sloshed over on the table. As she walked away, she said, "I'm out of lemon"...no sorry, no nothing. I wasn't impressed and wouldn't go back. Would not recommend it to anyone else either. Sorry.

Ratings_icons Rude and uncalled for!

Mark S.

I recently had dinner at Century Grill with a few friends. We did not know that we could not do separate checks. The waitress was very polite and explain the policy, but at that point none of us had that type of cash to pool together or a credit card. We didn't think we needed to. The owner (the woman) came up as if we had insulted her and flew off the handle at us. Yelling that "it clearly says on the menu no separate checks!!!" Ok, i looked at the menu again. We missed it. It was typed at the bottom. However, are you seriously telling me if they have such a problem with separating checks they can not post that info on the door of the establishment? That way it avoids this issue and dealing with this woman? Face it, coming off like that to people will scare away business. I will not go back. Not because of the payment problem, simply because who does this woman think she is to talk to ANYONE like that?

To the owner: You can talk to your customers like crap, but with out customers you HAVE NO BUSINESS!!! Grow up and run you place like an adult

Ratings_icons Great Food!!!

Iris K.

And atmosphere!!! I have been going here for years now. As for the service, I've NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. This isn't a chain restaurant, it is independently owned. I've never had a bad dinner, drink or appetizer. Everything there is FRESH & HOMEMADE, not homemade frozen/or canned.
The prices are VERY affordable.
HUGE fish fry's, best wings I've ever had, spicy chili, delicious pumpkin bisque, heaping plates of nachos & dinner plate size quesilldeas, just to name a few of the scrumptous menu items.
Great place to watch a Sabres game!!!
As for the owners, I have personally seen them wait, serve & clean tables. Not to mention, stopping at tables & asking people how there food is & did they need anything else. I can't say the same for ANY other restaurant I've been in.
Its a shame some of the other people haven't had the same experience, however, after reading their reviews, they probably wouldn't have been happy ANYWHERE they went.

We encountered the rude owner, but thankfully not his wife! We simply asked after a 40 mintute wait about our wings. The server stated they take 20 minutes - do the math! The owner then came over and dumped the wings on our table and told us they are busy and we sat at the same time as everyone else and that it is an event night and the customer is not always right and do him a favor and don't return.

Wow - that this place is still open is incredible!

Thinking you can single handedly take down the reputation of an establishment by having everyone in your party type the same review is retarded. The Century Grill is better without you retards, and i'll drink to that. You tools are the only thing wrong with Century, so stay out.

Ratings_icons Rude cook ruined my Birthday

Anonymous

I have worked in downtown Buffalo for over 15 years and never experienced a lunch like this one. I work for a large Firm and we used to frequent The Century Grill quite often for different occasions. We had a group of 7 of us, one of the girls got a rancid hamburger, (a few of the girls tried it and all agreed) we asked the waitress to take it back, there was something wrong with it. She took it and didn't even seemed surprised which we all thought funny. Nothing else was said or done from the waitress or the owners who both were there. I think we all understood this can happen, and really didn't think too much of the situation. Until...When we went to leave we were approached by the cook and not in a professional manner (who we now know is the owners wife) she asked us who returned the burger, my girlfriend said it was her, of course all of us thinking she was going to apologize. NOT... She was so confrontational I think she really wanted to fight about the ordeal. What she really wanted was to tell us "I wanted you to know, ate your hamburger and there was nothing wrong with it, that meat was just delivered Monday and there was nothing wrong with it.". ,Needless to say we were speechless, and literally had to walk around her to get out. First: who in the would eat anything that a total stranger had started eating, and handled. That's is it just gross.Second: What happened to "The Customer is always right", it was one hamburger we made no fuss about. She is part owner and acted this way she should know better, and might consider taking a class in professionalism. Word is getting around fast, and there approximately 100 people in this office alone who used to frequent this establishment often. Now after reading some of these reviews from earlier patrons I understand we were not the first to run into this problem, it's obvious they are just rude, and most likely won't be around long.

Ratings_icons Bad Experience/Rude Owner

Anonymous

A group of six of my friends and I from a downtown law firm went to the Century Grille today to celebrate one of the girl's birthdays (as we have been doing for some time now). Little did we know it would be one of the worst lunch experiences we'd ever have. One of the girls ordered a burger which she thought smelled and tasted a little funny. She had two of the other girls try it and they agreed something was just not right with it, one of the girls actually stated it tasted "rancid" to her. The waitress who took the plate back to the kitchen offered to bring something else, but never once apologized that there may have been something wrong with it, and actually didn't look surprised by the fact that it was being sent back. After receiving the check, the owner came over to our table -- we thought she was going to apologize for the bad burger. To our surprise she stated "I ate the rest of your burger....there was nothing wrong with it." Our jaws practically hit the floor. She went on to state that the meat just came in on Monday and there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with it. She was downright rude and confrontational. Any owner with half an ounce of professionalism would have apologized, whether there was something wrong with the burger or not. I have never seen such rude behavior. This once loyal customer will NEVER return and will make sure she informs everyone else she knows about the service received today.

Ratings_icons Mean Cook and Owner

You won't find me going back to the Century Grill for lunch again. The food quality is going downhill. I have patronized The Century Grill for a couple of years now. Not anymore. I work downtown and a group of us came in for lunch. One of the girls had bitten into a rancid tasting hamburger. She politely asked to take it back. The waitress did take the hamburger off our bill. As we were leaving the cook (female) stopped us and asked who was the one who had the problem with their burger. Then she proceeded to tell us she ate the burger and there was nothing wrong with it. Who would eat a stranger's burger? That's gross in itself. She was quite confrontational. An apology from the cook would have been sufficient. When I go out for lunch I want to enjoy myself not get into a fight. I wouldn't be surprised if the cook hasn't gotten into a few bar fights in her day.

The post dated 2/27/08 is obviously the owner's wife. Did you know Odie apologized to my friends and I for our experience due to your immaturity? Maybe you should take a lesson in humility from him. He is obviously the only one who has a shred of decency. You are a spiteful, insecure and vindictive woman.

You obviously don't know how word of mouth works. It's not done single-handedly, there are many people involved.

Whatever the reason for your hostility towards I and my friends, it is uncalled for. What comes around goes around.

You need not worry about us coming to your establishment ever again. Why would we subject ourselves to your presence. The mere thought of being in your presence makes me nauseous. You're lucky all we did was write reviews on a web site no one sees.

by not allowing them in their establishment in the first place. A recent lunch experience has left a few of us rather queazy as we experienced rancid beef and bacon that was obviously left over from one of last year's all you can eat bacon Saturday nights! The Century Grill has been flagged by this group - especially after the rude treatment we received from the owner as we were leaving. Instead of coming by to apologize for her disgusting fare - she just had to inform us that the burger we returned to the kitchen was fine, there was nothing wrong with it - because she ate it herself! euwwww! (why would anyone eat after a perfect stranger - what else goes on in that kitchen?) Stupid is as stupid does - but we won't be back to watch it.

Ratings_icons Rancid Hamburger

Anonymous

A group of 7 co-workers went for lunch. My hamburger had a very peculiar taste, I had a few others try it (I'm not a picky eater) and they agreed. One said it was "rancid". I sent it back. (nicely) The owner came up to our table at the end of the meal and told me that she "had eaten the rest of my hamburger and there was nothing wrong with it." Instead of apologizing she was almost confrontational. Unbelievable! She ate my leftover food! There is something wrong with a place that is confrontational with customers for absolutely no good reason. Additionally, the restaurant does not allow children. I am assuming because they can not get along or treat people decently. I'd rather eat at McDonalds on a bad bad day.

Great place to have a casual and comfortable dinner with friends...and you will not find better chicken wings in Buffalo. Period.
I have brought many newbies to this restaurant and they have all gone back repeatedly, for the atmosphere and the food....also a great place to hang out and watch a game.

Ratings_icons Great atmosphere; great food

Brenda D.

In Buffalo on business, I was walking in the deserted downtown corridor pondering a place to dine. The Century Grill beckoned with its neon blue sign. Once inside, I sat at the bar (with its several TVs, I could watch baseball, football, and auto racing, simultaneously!). The menu featured several reasonably-priced items, so I chose the nachos -- based on a prior posted recommendation on these pages. The nachos were wonderful!! Two nights later I returned and had a bowl of remarkable pumpkin bisque.

Based on my experiences, Century Grill is welcoming, has great and imaginative food, and is a good deal, budget-wise. I will definitely return, and would recommend Century Grill to anyone I know planning to visit Buffalo!

Ratings_icons Century Grill - Immature Owner

P H.

I have never been to the Century Grill. I was reading these reviews to help determine if I wanted to check it out. I think I'm going to pass, based on what I've read here. If someone posts something negative, that's fine. Everybody is entitled to their opinions. The whole purpose of this site is so people can post their good and/or bad experiences, and then let the person decide for themselves. If someone posts a negative review, for a representative of the restaurant to sign up for an account and post a reply, that's absurd and immature. Saying "I apologize for the problem" would have been professional and appropriate. Posting something such as "maybe if the kids you brought knew how to behave," and "it's not our job to watch them" is appalling to me. How immature! If the kids were misbehaving, then you certainly have the right to tell them to sit down, or ask them to leave. Posting an immature and offensive comment, as you did here, is simply going too far. Plus, your post is filled with typos, which shows that you are as uneducated as you are immature. You will never see me at your restaurant.

Additionally, I just looked on your website to find your email address, and I see "CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 10 ARE NO LONGER WELCOME IN THE RESTAURANT, PLEASE LEAVE YOUR KIDS AT HOME." Are you kidding me? For a "classy" restaurant, you appear to have no class at all. How about writing, "To create a more enjoyable environment for our valued patrons, children under the age of 10 are not permitted." I cannot believe how such an ignorant person like this, can actually own a restaurant.

Ratings_icons Perfect for Out-of-Town Business People

Tammara G.

The Century Grill is a great option for someone visiting Buffalo on business. On a weekend, it can be challenging to find a restaurant open, let alone a good one, in the business district of the city. The Century is readily accessible, located right across the street from the Hyatt. (And I will point out that even the Hyatt itself has a steak house inside the hotel, but it's not open during the day.) The Century has a casual atmosphere, but it's also very accommodating for a business lunch or after-work cocktail. The staff is friendly, personable and attentive. The owners aren't hiding somewhere in a back room - they are out joking and talking with their patrons. The food is fantastic; the nachos kick!!! Even if it's your first visit, you will immediately feel right "at home". I work at a downtown law firm, and I have recommended the Century Grill to co-workers and colleagues, all of which have come back with very complimentary reviews.

Century Grill has GREAT food, THEE BEST WINGS, reasonable prices and ALL the staff are VERY friendly. I HAVE had my children there, all 3 under 6yr, and had NO PROBLEMS with ANYONE there. My friends & I go here for food & drinks often. I take my out of town friends there when they come in also. As for parking, there is a parking lot located right next to the building, and it is also near the Augspurger Ramp .

Ratings_icons RE : RUDE OWNER

century g.

Hey John O. - - Maybe if the kids you brought with you knew how to behave in public, this wouldn't have been a problem for you or us. We are not chuck e cheese, and we expect or patrons who bring children into our restaurant to keep them at the table were they belong. I'm sure if the kids had gotten hurt during their exploration, we would have heard from your lawyer immediately. Bottom line is, if you can't keep your kids in check , leave them at home with a sitter, it's not our job to watch them !!!!!

I would NEVER go back to the Century Grill again. The OWNER of the restaurant actually came to my table and had the audacity to tell me to "keep my kids at the table". My two NEPHEWS ages 14 and 12 were only looking around the place for 15 seconds as encouraged by me. If the owner of this establishment doesn't want to attract people downtown to spend money and fill a half empty restaurant in already depressed city, then perhaps she should find another job. Actually, that will take care of itself anyway.

Century Grill is located in downtown Buffalo. Right across the street from the Hyatt. Parking is challenging. They offer an acceptable selection of food. I normally go there for lunch on weekdays, and the fish fry on Fridays is what I would recommend. It has a full service bar, outdoor patio and also its 2 levels. The are reasonably priced and I would certainly recommend.
