I recently visited NYC and was looking for a nice watch. Just when I was giving up hope of finding the watch I wanted for a good price, I stumbled upon Joseph Edwards. They gave me a fun experience, were very trustworthy and went for the extra mile.

I'm very happy I bought my watch here at Fifth Av, it's another good memory for us of New York. And I deserved it :-)

I would like to preface that this experience was years ago and only involved 1 employee behind the desk.

I came in to leave my vintage watch for repair. The salesman asked me if I wanted to sell it to him. I said no. He asked repeatedly saying he would give me a good price. When I finally cut him off and told him to stop asking me, he replied by saying "you're smart. You know what you have." Then he went on to tell me about how a week prior he had bought an incredibly expensive watch from an elderly woman for almost nothing.

Cons: Salesman tried to rip me off

Walked into this shop for the first time at the end of the day (July 3rd before the holiday weekend), and was assisted by Karla.
She had great knowledge of the watch I wanted, was willing to work with me on price, and always with a great smile on her face. All a very pleasant experience for this watch collector; I will buy again there.
Thank you Karla.

Pros: Selection and Staff

Cons: Small temporary location...they are moving

I bought a watch here after going to Tourneau and waiting around for a half hour for someone to help me. I was so upset actually that I spoke to a manager and complained about how terrible the experience was. There are literally 100 sales people buzzing around Tourneau all jockying for a position to sell you something. I wanted a more personal experience so I went to Joseph Edwards. The sales experience was actually pleasant. I left with a $5,000+ watch and a promise from the salesman to call me about a new band (I wasn't fond of the one that came with the watch). He never called.

1 Year later I began having issues with the watch and had to send it in for service (it was still under its 2 year warranty). To make a long story short, I sent it in for service (to the watch company, not to Joseph Edwards) 3 times. Each time it took about 2 months to fix. So in the last 8 months I've had the watch on my wrist for about 4 weeks total.

I was frustrated with the experience with the manufacturer so I called Joseph Edwards hoping they might have some more pull than I did. I was transfered to Sandy (I see she's mentioned in previous reviews as well), and was a bit put off by her response. She blew me off by saying I had to keep calling the manufacturer and there was nothing she could do. I asked if she could just provide me with a new watch because this one appeared to be defective. At this point she laughed and said "It's 2 years old! That falls outside the new sale window." Now I realize that the watch breaking 3 times is not their fault, but we're not talking about a Swatch here. This is a $5,000 watch and frankly I expected more help. She could have at least called the manufacturer and TRIED to help. Oh well. Next time I'll go to Kenjo.

Pros: Small store.

Cons: Poor service after the sale.

I JUST CAME ACROSS THIS POST AND DECIDED TO TAKE THE TIME TO REPLY. BOTH OF THESE POSTS ARE FROM THE SAME CUSTOMER WHO PURCHASED A WATCH AND AFTER WEARING IT DECIDED THEY WANTED THEIR MONEY BACK. JOSEPH EDWARDS WILL EXCHANGE THE WATCH FOR ANOTHER AT THE SAME OR HIGHER PRICE BUT WILL NOT REFUND THE PURCHASE. WE WILL THEN TAKE THE RETURNED WATCH CLEAN IT UP AND SELL IT AT A LOSS TO A WEB DEALER AS A RETURNED ITEM. THIS INSURES THAT OUR CUSTOMERS ALWAYS PURCHASE NEW MERCHANDISE AND NOT RETURNS FROM UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS.

Although this store looks to have an "air" of legitamacy to it..it is anything but. These people use misleading sales practices and their return policy is ludicrous at best. You could buy a $50,000.00 watch from them and return an hour later and they will act as if they're doing you a favor by talking to you!

They will never refund a penny regardless of the situation. The salseman Sam is a lying weasel. I understand he is planning on leaving Joseph Edwards to start his own watch store in Great Neck on Long Island...so if you ever happen to run into a small weasley man named Sam in a watch store in Great Neck...beware!!

Victor who owns the shop is a real piece of work. Better make sure everything is 100% perfect and that you realize once you give him your money...it's gone and so is any semblance of customer service.

Sandy is his coorperate store manager who you will be sent to when no one else in the retail store wants to deal with you. All she can offer you is to try and upsell you to a more expensive watch or to say "Sorry...store policy...sorry store policy". Useless as a customer service rep, but excellent as a stonewalling, screw you out of your money enforcer for Victor.

If you are going to buy an expensive watch in New York City...please, please DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE!! Go to Tourneau or Kenjo as these store are very reputable and their prices are always better anyway.

The absolute worst!!!

Do yourself a favor, do not buy from these people. There are plenty of stores in NYC to buy a watch from, plenty of whom are honest hardworking people with a love of watches. Joseph Edwards is not honest nor hardworking. They are only interested in getting the most money possible and have no true sense of customer service. Save yourself the frustration. Additionally, do not be fooled by the simple Sam. Both he and the company are misleading - half truths, information misrepresented, and manipulation run rampant. Do not give them your money. I recently spent a lot of money there, more than $10k, and was shocked to discover how unaccomodating they were when I had to return a purchase. Although I was told it would be no problem to bring the watch back - they did not clarify it was for exchange only. They were unpleasant, rude and frequently tried to pressure me into making more costly decisions. Ultimately, you do not want to do business with these people. Good Luck.
