Akwaaba, which means "Welcome" in the Ghana language is synonymous with comfort and elegance all hidden away right here in Brooklyn!

Ever wanted to "go away" without leaving the area? Need someplace to relax and act like a tourist while being pampered?? Akwaaba is the place for you. Akwaaba Mansion is an elegant 18 room restored 1860?s Italian villa with an Afrocentric touch. This lovely mansion features exquisite architectural details, including 14-foot ceilings and ornate fireplaces. Located in historic Stuyvesant Heights, Akwaaba Mansion is nestled in a quiet tree-lined community with some of the city's finest brownstones. The historic neighborhood is rich in culture, and the excitement of Manhattan is only 20 minutes away by subway or car. We used Akwaaba recently for a family get together (we ran out of space) and our relatives wanted an alternative to a pricey hotel.

This place is highly recommended. You have Private baths with Jacuzzis, Afternoon tea, personal concierge, hearty breakfasts and genuinely personable staff to help you.

PROS: Beautiful Establishment, Gracious Staff, Happy Experience
CONS: None

Akwaaba is a fantasy-come-true for its owners, Monique Greenwood (a former publisher who dabbles in decorating) and her poet-engineer husband, Glenn Pogue. The couple found the landmark mansion, neglected despite its historic stature, in a…
