As with any purchase, it is important to protect your interests. I buy my meat at Pic n Pay. However, their meat is not always fresh. I once bought a turkey breast and when I brought it home it was already spoiled. I brought it back the next day. While they did exchange it for a fresh one, they were defensive, implied that it was somehow my fault, and suggested that I tear the plastic and smell it in the future! Needless to say, this is unsanitary and not very reassuring.
Having said that, I will say that 99% of the time it is fresh and the prices are unbeatable.
My friend in Queens tells me that her friends travel from there to shop at Pic n Pay. That's a pretty good testimonial.

Pros: Great Prices on Meat

Cons: Caveat Emptor--Buyer Beware

i have been going to this vendor for the past 20 years. since the current owner took over the business from his father (who was an honorable man), the quality of the meat sold has deteriorated; i.e. smelly almost rotten chicken and the quality of service is terrible. The help there in particular the rabbinical supervisors, are nasty and uncooperative. They are doing you a favor by assisting you. In addition, they cash registers do not display the items that are being rung up on the LED screens so that you have NO way of verifying what is being charged. i have been overcharged several times and when the owner finally was confronted, he indicated that he had been away. however, he would not redress the issue of overcharging. he has not only lost a loyal customer. he is taking advantage of the public's trust in him, which is thoroughly undeserved.

In a class by itself. No other Glatt Kosher establishment in the Metro NY area can touch them on price. I have had no problems with their meat and chicken quality.

Cons: The usual Brooklyn parking issue.

This was my first experience at Pic-N-Pay and it was terrific. Everyone was so very helpful, from the owner who made terrific suggestions, to the butchers, the help staff and the smiling cashiers. I must say that I was apprehensive about going because of a previous review, but I am glad that I did. It just goes to show, when you give a smile, you get a smile. I certainly will return to this store.

Fresh meats are good, and I feel competitively priced. They always seem to be adding new products to their selection. They are selling vegetables now, as well as dairy and baked goods. However, there are 2 things that bother me The first one i see, each time i shop the store. They seem to be phobic about throwing out, outdated merchandise. I 've seen packaged goods, with months old dates. At times the price sticker is conveniently over the date. I've told the management at one time, they took the product off the shelf immediately. I go back the following week, and the outdated merchandise is right back in the same place. It seems like they waited for me to leave, and put it right back. The second item, is purely my gut feeling.I feel that frozen meats are in the cases, at times, as fresh. Pick up a roast, that is rock hard, and they say, "oh its cold, in the fridge". However the items right next to it, are not rock hard. What gives.
Overall, I shop the store on a regular basis, and I would recommend it, but just be wary.

Pic-N-Pay has a varied selection of chicken, meats and other grocery items at highly competitive
pricing when compared to other Brooklyn butchers. They have Empire and other brands as well as their own Kosher brand, If you eat Glatt kosher and are Orthodox, there is a problem since their kosher supervision is by Lubavitcher supervisors (there is an RCA ruling that prohibits using meat products from a kosher supervisor who believes or practices messianic judaism-you would have to find out if it pertains to their current staff). Also, the kashruth by their plant out west is not accepted as being more traditional kosher by many Ortho rabbis. If they upgraded their kashruth, perhaps their pricing would be less competitive. Even if you are more kosher traditional, there is still a great selection of other meats and grocery products with OU certification at attractive pricing - they also have a refrigerated take out section at good pricing (not OU). Enjoy.

Pros: Large, fresh selection of usual and more exotic (like bison) meat, dairy and grocery products (depth here). Mostly attractive pricing

Cons: Not so friendly staff but you can get by. Some challenges for the strictly kosher.

Even if the atmosphere is far from come, and maybe the prices aren't spectacular, Pic-N-Pay is not just a good place to stop--it is a necessity. Every time we come in to Brooklyn to shop, Pic-N-Pay is of course on of our stops, and we find every imaginable cut of meat in any size to exactly suit our needs. Its selection is far ranging with all kinds of meats as well as a few cases of frozen meat and a nice size selection of milichiks and pareve items on the other side. However, keep in mind that it is Brooklyn, and you must remember that a little shopping-cart shoving is necessary.

Pros: Great selection. Everything. Frum.

Cons: Loud. Noisy. Brooklyn.

This place is to be avoided at all costs. Its dirty and they hire illegals and pay them way below minimum. The pwner is arrogant and they are horribly overpriced. There once was a time where it was passable, but they have gotten too cocky. Oh yes, and like another poster stated, the cashiers are indeed horrid. Say "Nay" to Pick and Pay!

Pic n Pay is a good butcher store located in the heart of brooklyn. You can get all types of fresh glatt kosher meats and poultry at very reasonable prices. They also sell all your grocery needs such as milks and juices. Their selection is good and the saff helpful. Their location is also not as bad as some other stores on avenue M because they are at the end of the busy section and parking can be a little easier there.

This is a kosher meat store that sells fresh meat. Their prices are unbeatable and so is the variety. Although kosher meat is expensive you will like going there. They also have dairy and frozen products as well as condiments. What I love buying there is immitation crab sticks and sesame sauce. The store makes the best store made salmi that hangs next to the meat while you shop. A lot of the times they have unbeatable prices of the neighborhood

This place carries a huge variety of self-service kosher meats and many other products such as dairy goods, frozen foods and more. One can find a good selection of gourmet condiments and sauces and they have a large selection of cheeses. Prices can be high, as is the case with kosher meats, but prices on other items are good. They even have a small smoked fish area and a small homemade foods area - both are good. Only complaints about this place are the rude cashiers (especially the head cashier.. never smiles, always nasty) who chatter amongst themselves in their native tongue loudly, and their refund policy, which is very unfair - they take things back if they feel like it. Other than that, I give the place a thumbs up. Oh, and the owner is quite helpful and will cheerfully answer all questions.
