I have lived in Rhinebeck all my life and I remember Foster's as having pretty decent food. I would recommend it for lunch but dinners are not anything to brag about. The atmosphere is good and so is the service although you can feel a bit rushed when it's busy.

Pros: None

Cons: Everything

I have been going to Foster's since 1975 when I would visit the area. Now as a resident for the last 28 years, I have always loved to come to Foster's where I feel "home." I appreciate the always great food like the London Broil with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes or just a rare Roast Beef sandwich. The service is especially fast and always friendly, never phony. As someone who loves horses I have always loved the whole atmosphere of Foster's based around an old coach house with stalls and decorated with horse paintings, photos, and coach related accessories. The bar area is small and friendly and there are 3 areas for dining. I prefer the booths up front with the old dark stalls and heavy wood tables. It is just the best place to come in to relax, talk, eat great food, even play a jukebox, and then leave happy. I cannot think of a restaurant I would rather go to.

I love this place. It has been in Rhinebeck forever. The food is great and I love the ambience of the darker front dining area. The London Broil rocks. The broiled scallops are amazing. I have not had anything bad here. Even the French Dressing is something special. Becks on tap is pretty nice too. And the prices are beyond reasonable.

I have dropped into this restaurant when I just wanted a simple bite to eat, and wanted to avoid the upscale snobs that populate many of the local eateries. While they aren't the first choice for the vegetarian, the food is otherwise standard and solid. The best thing about this place is its bar. It is a wonderful place to drop in and have a drink and a chat after catching a flick next door.

Pros: cozy bar, atmospheric, non-pretentious

Foster's Coach House is the old friend you never forget. After practically growing up in this place it is refreshing to come back years later and find it is not only what you remembered but even better. i fondly recall those nights waiting for a table eating the complimentary popcorn and looking at the pictures in the hallway. By popular demand I am still waiting for a table but now I know why not for the popcorn but for the food that is the ultimate reward. Mr. Kirwood knew a good thing and never lost sight of that. Great food at a great price!! If only Brian, Tommy and Red were still there it would be perfect!

Cons: the old guard is gone

I have never had a bad meal here. The food is homecooking style, from sliced london broil - my fav to homecooked turkey with stuffing and the works. The prices are affordable and the atmosphere is very nice. I don't particulary like the downstairs as it is more confined, the loft is a great place for private parties. Very rustic and comfortable.

I have eaten at Foster's for many, many years and have found the quality of food to be totally consistent and wonderful. The choices are from burgers to shrimp and steaks and the desserts offer a wide variety too. Everything is delicious and served in a timely and friendly fashion -- I highly recommend this eatery!
