This place is pretty good. It's in less then a block from my boyfriend's house so we go a lot and get take out, maybe once a week. It's definitely not the best ever, but it's pretty consistent, cheap, and we never got sick, lol. It's kind

I am writing this today after spending 70 dollars on the worst service of my life. Oh, and for those that are wondering, I have eaten at truck stops in the middle of Idaho with waiters that smoke while talking to you. Yes! This was the worst service I have ever had in my life. In fact, it was the first time in my life that I didn't leave a tip. Not a penny.

So how did my first and only night at Neko's start???

I walk in with my fiance, and ask for a table for 3, we were meeting a friend. An old, bitter woman walks away after I tell her the number, and one of the sushi "chefs" says: "3? Over there..." Motions us to an area with four empty tables. When I start walking towards the table the bitter woman appears again, and points to a seat. She then leaves.

About a minute later our friend arrives. He sits after we stand up and show him our table.

The lady, who I haven't decided yet if she is a hostess or waitress comes to take our drink order. We order a large Saki and 2 22oz Sapporo beers. She brings us the Saki with only two glasses, and she only pours about 3 ounces of the two beers into the glasses, sets it down and walks away before we can even ask for a third saki glass. Comes back about a minute later and asks what we want.

My fiance and I eat sushi, and we wanted a good night tonight. We usually go to Hokkaido but it was closed. I had some money in my pocket I wanted to burn. So we ordered about 40 dollars in sushi, some dumplings, and she got Miso soup. My friend is vegi, and he ordered two vegi rolls and a seaweed salad.

About two minutes later the dumplings and salad came. No soup. The salad was from Gadaledos sea food up the street so of course he liked it. The dumplings tasted like horrid crap. Oh, and no soup.

So we drink and wait for the sushi. During the time we waited three tables came and went while we sat. We didn't feel like getting drunk so we just kind of sipped the drinks. By the time we were done with both bees and the saki it had been 20 minutes since we finished the dumplings. I was faced away from the cook area but I kept looking back and I noticed there was a plate of sushi sitting by the register.

I started to get upset.

About ten minutes later I finally grabbed what looked like the manager, and asked him where the food was. (now keep in mind that the bitter woman that had served us originally never came back to our table except to clear our dishes for a second, it took her about 20 minutes to do this, and she didn't say a word to us).

The manager then came with our food in a split second. And guess what, the order was missing one 7 dollar roll.

We ate the crap sushi, of which our vegi friend said the tempura tasted like dirty grease, and he actually couldn't finish his meal. We got the check and they had added both dishes they didn't give us onto the ticket. I was livid. My fiance is more diplomatic so she handled getting the bill reduced.

I am currently working in service industry. I typically tip about 25 to 40 percent of the bill because when I got out I like to share the wealth of this hard profession we all find ourselves in. I had over a hundred bucks in my back pocket and was willing to walk away without any of it at the end of the night. When I got that f*cking bill I literally counted the amount out to the penny, and didn't leave a dime.

THIS WAS BY FAR THE WORST SUSHI, WORST SERVICE, WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE!

Never go to Neko Sushi

Neko Sushi is where we often go as a family for sushi. The restaurant is usually busy with people we know, and it's location in the heart of New Paltz makes it easy to walk around town a little and grab a bite to eat. My husband has an 'account' with them, so they send us coupons after we eat in the restaurant a number of times. The food is great with a big selection.

The sushi here is mediocre. It isn't horrible, but it is pretty close to the sort of stuff one might pick up in a supermarket and be satisfied with at 4 AM. I would only go here again if the other two sushi restaurants in waking distance suddenly disappeared.

Pros: location, outdoor seating with view of drunk college students, rarely a wait

Cons: so-so sushi

I have been going to Neko for some time now. And I have never had a bad experience. Always the sushi is fresh and melts in your mouth. The staff is always freindly and helpful. If you want the best Japanese food around, you should try Neko!!

Pros: Great Sushi.....Always Fresh!!

This is a really nice Japaneese restaurant. The staff is extra friendly and accomadating, and the food is delicious. The nice thing about this restaurant is that it is a place that everyone in the family can eat, even if they don't like sushi or japanese food. There are vegetable and chicken dishes that they can eat. The menu has enough of a selection to accomidate everyone, and it is very reasonably priced for a sushi resturant. A very nice place to have a sit down meal.
