Son Cubano

With live Cuban bands every night from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, and DJ's Thursday evening, you'll find a different scene that's uniquely Cuban every night of the week.

People. I suggest everybody to think one more time before making a reservation to Son Cubano, West New York NJ.\r
Before opening, they promised all the residents that it will be a family restaurant and they will close at 11pm. Guess what.

I had a great time at son cubano last night until it was time to pay for my beer. I had set my bag down for a couple of minutes (big mistake) and when i went to get my wallet it was missing. No one wanted to help me. The really short manager (who also works at Flor de Sol) was very sarcastic and treated me like the degenerate that he is. I said "the least you could do is get a flashlight and look on the floor where i was standing, the least." He was not helpful at all. The bouncers were joined in on his fun until i reminded them they are risking their lives to protect that short man who could care less if anything happens to them. Apparently that knocked sense into them and they became very sympathetic. Either way I filed a police report - ya never know. I will never go to this place again and gladly tell everyone I know about my experience. IT's unfortunate because he also works at Flor de Sol (i'm a regular) and now that has been ruined for me as well. I work in Tribeca and trust that I will tell everyone in the neighborhood about what happened.

Pros: good drinks/good music

Cons: Horrible staff

I wasn't impressed with the food or the service. I went with my husband on a sat night. We're both Hispanic and the music was loud even for us. Around 9pm they had a band and that was much better. I had the pernil, my husband el churrasco. The pernil was tasty but the churrasco was bland. The service was ok. For the amount of money that we spent I was expecting a lot more. Next time we'll eat at Cuba on Thompson street where the Cuban food is more authentic and the service is great.

maybe i went on a bad night, and maybe you don't go there to eat, but it was very bad. there was a live band (I've heard the live bands are pretty good there) which was so terribly bad we had to move to a different table to get away from the noise. the food was so mediocre...and ridiculously expensive for what you get. i just ate at versailles in miami which is extremely cheap by comparison, and 1000% better than son cubano. i would put this thing on death watch. there is no way they are going to be able to make rent.

Pros: easy to get a table

Cons: bad food, terrible music

Do not go to to Son Cubano for dinner! The food was terrible and overpriced and I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning from the place. Really great place to party if you enjoy Spanish music, however, do NOT go there for dinner!

Well I love going to this place, mainly for its music. I can listen to my classic spanish rock, salsa, cumbia, merengue, bachata samba, hip hop, and even reggae/ reggaeton, even house. Finding a place that plays all of the mentioned genres is hard. The place is narrow and long, so its hard to get around after1am. Bartenders are hot!!!! not to forget nice. (Drinks are kinda expensive, $12 for cocktails, and like $7 beer) Bouncers are usually ok at the door, no frisking and no cover charge. Overall, one of my favs.

Went to get a drink on a Friday night. Left the jacket on the table and went to the bar. When I returned back to the table, the jacket was gone.
The manager did nothing. He was least interested. He seemed drunk too.

i met a friend for dinner at this popular meathead district spot. during conversing with guest; the bus boy stole my wallet while clearing the table. i was not drinking and know that i did not imagine this. i reported it to the so called wannabe manager and for some reason; this was of no interest to him. he tried to tell me that i did not have a wallet and was making this entire story up. having grown up in the restaurant business; as my parents own several out on the east end, i realize that this is not the proper posture for the manager to take; given the circumstances. i finally got it; there is some t ype of theft thing going on in this place and management is in on it. so ladies, take note: IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR WALLET STOLEN, CASH, CREDIT CARDS, KEYS, ETC. and have no one care, go here-

Cons: everything

I won't go back to Son Cubano because of the manager and the host. My wallet was stolen from our table. We saw it there before the dishes were cleared; it was gone immediately afterwards. I informed the waiter that maybe they took it with the dishes. He said all tables were filmed so they could check. The manager then came and said that our table was not filmed and that it was impossible that it was stolen from the table. He didn't want to check the trash. After urging him as it had a fair degree of cash, credit card, apartment keys, etc. - he finally did. He came back saying he found nothing, and that I could call the police. In the meantime the host became involved and informed me that they "can't find it because you never had it here." He smirked at me in my duress and was condescending. He also contradicted his colleague and stated that they in fact do have the film and no one took it...hmmm. Mind games - unfortunately, we were far from drunk. They both appeared angry AT ME. Asked to speak to the bus boy, the host said that they would never know who it was...the waiter contradicted him and said he knew who it was...hmmm again. Neither the manager nor host ever thought of saying, "Sorry, but if we find it we will call you." They never asked for nor wanted my contact information in the event that it showed up. The police came and the host and manager stated that I never had my wallet. How did they know??? Who goes out for dinner with no wallet, cash, credit cards, keys? They acted aggressively towards me; not at all professional. All the contradictions felt very shady and moreso the fact that host and the manager insisted I didn't have my wallet with me.

I am writing this as I am a believer in ethics. If one supports an establishment, the establishment should at a minimum be respectful. I mostly wanted my apartment key back - they couldn't even offer to take my contact information should it show up when they close. Unprofessional.

Went there for dinner and a little dancing the other night. The menu was way overpriced and the food was nothing special. The worst part was the manager and the host. We were a party of five and they squeezed us into a four top to save a two top near by for other customers. The two top was empty the entire time and there was no apology for the poor accomodations - they just sent over another manager who made excuses to us but still no apology. Not worth the time or the trouble!

I have been part of the Son Cubano crowd for quite awhile and love it! The live salsa band that plays nightly is amazing and the place makes some wonderful drinks! It is especially wonderful on a thursday night when it is less crowded. The dark candle lit tables are romantic and it just relaxes you after a long week. It is definitely overpriced but the food is delicious. For any drink on the menu made right request Rich and for an amazing watermelon martini go to Ronnie. The bartenders are great...at least to the ladies..lol. Definitely worth a visit!

I went here a few weeks ago for dinner & dancing on a Thursday night for a friend's birthday. The rest of the party got there before me, but from what I understood we were seated pretty promptly considering the crowd & no reservations. Our table happened to be right in front of the live band which was a little annoying. We asked to move to the booth behind us, but were told that it was reserved. Strangely enough, those seats never got filled until WE finished dinner & were asked to move there so that our table could be removed from the "dance floor"... whatever. So, we ordered about 4 appetizers which were really just average, especially for the price & portion size. Then I had the bacalao as an entree which comes with a side of yucca & I have to say, it was perfect! I rarely eat everything on my plate, but there was nothing left when our table was cleared! The bill came to about $240 for 4 people, which I guess is average for the area. However, had I not enjoyed my food as much as I did (& the cute waiter), I probably would have felt robbed. The crowd is okay...I guess you could say it's a mix...the DJ played pretty good music, although he was kind of rude & not so hip to too many genres of Latin music, as I quickly discovered when attempting to make a request. While I don't anticipate becoming a regular, I'm sure I'll end up back there at some point, even if its just to salsa.
PS I don't recommend the Champagne Sangria (it tastes like perfume).

Went here on friday night for my birthday with 10 of my friends. I made the reservation earlier that same day. We were 20 minutes late. We were seated right away. Everyone enjoyed their food. I sampled half of my friends' plate and EVERYTHING was delicious and plenty. As for the drinks I had the mango mojito. 3 of my friends had the havana ice tea. And they didn't like it. The service was great. Our waiter was very attentive. The lounge part of the night was good too. The music was good and it got really crowded. One problem I had was that it got really hott in there. But then how could it not with all the bodies in there dancing non stop!!! That was my second time there and I am definitely going back.

P.S. Be prepared to spend money!! The food is expensive. With about 10 people the bill came up to $500.00

i've been here a few times in a group of family and friend and once for a birthday dinner with my bf. Each time i've been here i've had a great time and no complaints. the food is good i ordered grilled chicken and my b/f ordered what is called "ropa vieja" it translates to old clothes but its just beef on top of white rice. Both were extremely delicious.we ordered one apetizer, 2 drinks (which were kinda small but its the city, right?) 2 meals and 2 desserts and it came out to about $100. w/o tip. We made reservations and got seated quickly, The ambience was great, the service great, and if u stay long enough, it converts into a lounge after clearing up all the tables. My b/f never really tried spaish food before and he loved this place. Its great for groups and romantic dinners altough the seats are kinda close. and food is not too over priced since the portions are resonable.

If interested in good cuban food and nice cuban music, this is a good place but DO NOT BUY ALCHOHOLIC VEVERAGES!!!!!! They have a scam when it comes to the drinks...Is as if they are mixing water with tons of colored sugar- One can get diabeties after one of their drinks besides the fact that they are insulting your intelligence and sucking they money out of your pocket like a vacum cleaner without anything in return!....I have been to this place more than once because I like their food and thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt in regards to the cocktails...Now I am completly sure they are ripping people off. The last time I was there for my friend's birthday I kept ordering drinks till I ran out of money but still didn't felt the slightes buzz. I know myself and I know that I'm good with two drinks, maximum three. How come I had order more than six, plus a shot of "patron" and still felt as sober as I came in! They have a scam going on! My only suggestion is DON'T ORDER ANY DRINKS !!! BE SMART WITH YOUR MONEY! Ahh! one last thing, if you get a table, KNOW that they will rush you!!!!

I looove this place! The live music is always so fun and the food and drinks are great. Try the mango mojito's or the white sangria! It can get really crowded on the weekends and reservations are not always easy to get so try during the week or on an off night.

Ive been desperate to find a cool place that plays fun latin music, there are so many in DC and its something that so far , Ive found NYC is missing, well I have to say I went in this place, it was lacking, the music was great but there were way too many ppl that have no clue how to dance, and I couldn't find one guy that I thought was attractive.. At once point a guy came up to me and started dancing in my face.. it was very cheesy and I almost felt like I was in a SNL skit for night at the roxbury.. Its really a shame... this place is nicely decorated and i like me the music, but the crowd is awful... Its probably just the typical NYC thing where after a year or two a club goes out of style just like the latest fashion trend... doesnt really happen in other cities...oh well.. if anyone has a better place to go for salsa/reggaeton/latin music with a more attractive crowd, please let me know :)

Most times and most places change is for the good but this place the change in the area is for the worse. We used to go here every Thursday and had a blast. Slowly the staff was changed and everything is different. They are trying to curtail their operations for the NEW HIGH END neighborhood.
THE DRINKS are bad, THE FOOD SO SO and the MUSIC JUST AWEFUL. THE GUYS AT THE DOOR NEED TO BE better Trained.
I own my own bar/restaurant and I got lot's of my ideas from this place. I think now they worry about the dollars and not the service that's why I think they won't be around much longer.
CHECK OUT FLOR DE SOL, their downtown partner. Still one of the nicest restaurants in the city. CHIC, great food, unbelievable ambiance and the service is 2nd to none. Expect my place.

SIMPLY THE WORST customer service and a rude waiter with nasty attitude. (i was never confronted by a waiter in my life for not eating fast enough, not ordering another drink, etc)
although i have to admit that i did enjoy the band, i will never go back to son cubano. i'd rather follow the band around to other places. so why waste your night and money at a place where customers are treated like trash? we all know there are too many nice, fun, and friendly places to go in the city where customers are treated like customers. DON'T GO THERE unless you want to ruin your day, evening, and sleep.

This was my 2nd time to this restaurant and it was worse than the 1st. I went with 5 friends who hardly ever visit Manhattan Restaurants. They of course turned to me who is a connoisseur on restaurants. I happen to love the Meatpacking District but this place has the attitude that their located on the West Coast. The issue I have is that they charged us a 20% gratuity including on the bill. Our bill was a whopping 400.00 because of the hefty prices of their drinks and tapas. I'm still waiting for a response regarding the reason for the 20% gratuity. No Restaurant will charge a 20% gratuity for 5 persons. Its usually 6 or more. Even top notch zagat restaurants. This place need to come off their high and mighty horse because the competition is fierce in the Meatpacking District or for that matter throughout the big city. They also take your credit card number when making a reservation and will charge you a fee if you cancel. The music is ok but no reason to have all the added charges if that is their reason. However, the food is good but their steak was hard to cut due to numerous veins. Stick to their Tapas.

I went to Son Cubanos on a date last night. We did make a reservation and I would reccommend doing that before you go. The band was really good and we were sitting in the front of the restauarant so it was not too loud. Everything was good, our waiter was nice attentive and gave us insight into the menu. He suggested some nice wines and didn't rush us at all. I would definitely reccommend and come back.

I've been meaning to write this review for awhile. Every time that I've been to Son Cubano for drinks and dancing, the bouncers purposely kept a long line outside when there was really nothing going on inside. I think that one night we just gave up and left after waiting for an hour. What topped the cake was the night that we waited over an hour for a table when there was an empty table RIGHT in front of us. And guess what, that's where the staff ended up seating us. From what I could tell, the table had never been reserved. The tapas are decent but not anything special that you can't get anywhere else in the city. I have never come back to Son Cubano after that experience, too many good restaurants here to waste your time on this one.

I showed up an HOUR late but these guys were nice enough to not make a big deal about it.
The ambience here is great, the decor includes paintings ( i guess cuban) and sheer curtains. The music is pretty loud, it is hard to hear.
the service is great, pretty quick.
the food was good, but nothing special, unfortunately. i was expecting more. i ordered the pollo in garlic sauce. my friend ordered the ropa vieja and it was very chewy.
what i HIGHLY RECOMMEND are the traditional margherita and classic mojito - they were amazing and strong.
aside from the food, this place is a keeper. also located in the meat packing district, so dress up a little before going here.

I arrived outside the restaurant at 11:30pm assuming I would get in with no problem. There was a short line of ten people ahead of me and my date but I was willing to wait. As it turns out, I ended up waiting almost 2 hours. Some bald headed guy kept paying off the bouncers at the door and letting people in off the street. When I confronted the bouncer (who I might add had the I.Q. of a peanut) he didn't have an answer for me when I asked him if there were two lines to get in. His suit may have been pricey but his demeanor was that of an ape. When I finally got inside, the place was a zoo. The bartenders were running up and down the bar trying to accommodate everyone and failing miserably. The hord of people had packed the place so tightly, I couldn't enjoy the music to dance. And our little bald headed friend from outside had appeared to bring in a "younger" crowd. I wont make any allegations of underage drinking but I can say that no one was checking I.D.'s at the door. Utterly disgusted with the entire situation, I just turned around and left.

Cons: Long lines, rude bouncers, nasty bartenders, parking, the list can go on and on

For the price of a yellow cab over the 59th Street bridge into Queens, dinner and a cab back you can get more authentic food at much cheaper prices. Your whole evening including transportation would be cheaper.

Pros: Mojitos

Cons: bland boring and the only way they can get away charging the prices they do is because it is the Meat Packing District

For the price, we had expected better quality - in service, food, and ambience. My 3 friends and I had walked cross town and arrived for our reservation tonight, only to be seated at a 2 ft by 2 ft table. The table was already filled with glasses, plates, and utensils - where were they thinking of putting the dishes of food??? We had requested to be moved to a larger table, which took several minutes as we had to persuade first the waiter, then the manager, who had tried to deter us by saying they had over 160 reservations tonight. (However, we were there for nearly 2 hours and the restaurant was never fully packed. ) It took a while after we were seated at the second table to get asked about drinks. On a hot summer day, wouldn't it make sense to provide glasses of water when the table is seated than to have your diners dehydrate? After some discussion, we decided on several dishes and ordered. (Note that the menu states that each patron must order 2 tapitas or 1 platos.) At this point, we were truly hoping that the food would be so exquisite that all this would be worth it. The cuban sandwiches and sausages were good, but we've had better. The paella was good, but a bit salty. The chicken and rice was spicy, but pretty good. The fish and yuca dish was extremely salty, but tasty nonetheless. During the meal, our waiter, the manager, and the busboy each stopped by several times to see if we were enjoying ourselves. At first, this seemed nice, but after a while, it became tiresome to keep getting asked every 5 minutes. Conversation became more and more difficult as the music was blasting. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience, but I wouldn't recommend it on a weekend and don't expect a quick service. Needless to say, we will not be returning for a second visit.

This review is strictly for the people showing up for the club scene Son Cubano. Last weekend I made my way to Son Cubano at the behest of my flatmate who claims to have visited the venue over 10 times over the years. He is often critical about quality of women and club environment at other clubs so I took his recommendation seriously. I could not have made a better call. Admittedly, there was one hicup: the wait outside was quite painful. We arrived at 11:20pm, but only made it inside at about 12:30am. To Son Cubano's credit, I had self-described regulars in line around me report that this was an extremely unusual wait. Still, I must register what I witnessed.

The entrance snafu aside, Son Cubano gets a 2 thumbs up for every other criterion. I would estimate that 25% of the chicks in that club ranged from decent to hot (a pretty good stat). Also, the atmosphere was very condusive to debaucherous fun. Upon clicking with one chick I had my butt squeezed as my girl and I wove threw the crowd en route to the bathroom. As I peered over my shoulder I encountered a cheeky looking chick (though she wasn't all that great) smirking right back. These are exactly the sort of no-holds-barred antics that make for a fun night out. Though not everyone was hooking-up, the venue certainly attracts chicks that are open to the possibility. Again, a big plus in my playbook.

The music was very contagious. The DJ artfully meshed one fast beat genre with another to provide an energetic flow of musical bliss. Salsa, merengue, latin pop and hip-hop aficionados will not be disappointed.

Though in line with the high price standard of NYC clubs (at $11 a pop), Son Cubano's mojito is quite unique. Visiting this club and not ordering its flagship drink is like travelling to Rio de Janeiro and skipping the beach. Try it, you will be glad you did.

The best thing about this place is the drinks and the live band that comes on around 7:30. The music varies depending on the night you go. YOU MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS. They do not seat walk-ins.

The food is good. Something's are more spectacular than others. The appetizer empiendas were delicious, as were the rib appetizer. The camarones appetizer is so small and tastes OK, it's not worth getting. The cuban sandwiches are fried ham and cheese. I'm not wild about that so I didn't care for it. The Pernil entree was great!!! Order this if you don't know what to get. It's big so be hungry. The Ropa Viejo is good also.

We drank passion fruit mojitos both w/ & w/o mint and they were very good. All the drinks were very good, so you can't really go wrong w/the drinks.

I don't think it's a good one on one date place b/c the two-seater tables are right next to each other so privacy is limited. BUT if you have a group of people or double date I HIGHLY recommend.

Our waiter was Rob or Roberto. He was great. Take his advice, he knows what he's talking about.

Hope you go. Enjoy!

Here is the e mail sent to the general manager of son cubano.

Dear Sir,
I was at Son Cubano for a party on Saturday night. Our total bill was
$578 with an included 20% gratuity. My portion of the bill was $116,
which is reflected in my signed customer copy of the bill. I checked my
account today and I was charged $139.20. As I detail in the below
paragraph, our parties intention was to split the bill. I realize that a
20% gratuity is added to parties of 5 or more, however, that was taken
into account when we split the bill and I did not approve the additional
20% amount on my card. I understand that we were a large party and the
restaurant was busy but I feel like our waiter treated us in a poor
manner.

We needed to split the bill several ways which clearly irritated our
waiter. He hovered over us while we were splitting up the bill and rudely
tossed a calculator on the table while we were trying to figure everyone's
part. After handing him over $100 in cash and a written breakdown of the
remainder for each card he told us that we could only split the bill onto
6 cards. We understood the need to condense the bill and while we
rearranged the remainder of the bill into a 6 way split our waiter
continued to hover over us, huff, cross and uncross his arms, mutter
phrases to himself, roll his eyes and glare at the entire table. All 11
members of our party commented on his rudeness.

This to us was the cap to an evening of poor service. While we felt the
food itself was well prepared, we were served in an inappropriate and
unskilled manner. In fact, the reason we did not complain to management
was that we honestly felt this was the way that you preferred to run your
restaurant. The fact that you have now overcharged me only deepens my lack
of respect for how you run your establishment. I am contacting my fellow
patrons from last night to have them examine their charges.

I went to Son Cubano with the same group on 3 occasions- and always had a great time. The last time however all was not the same. The food was still good- but the staff and most especially the door people were rude and intimidating- when we complained about how we were being treated (after spending around $1000) we were asked to leave and told that "who cares about you -everyone has money"-Not clear as to why the big intimidating bouncer felt the need to make a group of small women feel very scared!! When we tried to complain to the manager by phone it took weeks to get a call back, and only an offer of free drinks. I have lived in NYC my whole life and was never treated so badly anywhere- for the $ we spent and a ruined night -free drinks are no kind of apology.

This place was the hottest in town 2 years ago. What a shame. What happened to this place? The crowd and the music became just aweful. The doorman lets everyone in, sneakers, swetshirts, not selective at all. Son Cubano used to be a trendy, upscale spot packed with pretty people, but that's just the past.

Went on a Monday night and the music was live, which was fantastic. The food was just as lively and flavorful... Our table ordered a bunch of food - all of which was tasty - as spanish/afro- Caribbean cuisine should be. I will admit though, a side of frijoles negros were pricy for being such a cheap ingredient. The drinks were freat - wine, mojitos, some sparkly strawberry thing - all yummy. It's the perfect place to eat and get loud... loved that they played reggae when the band took breaks...

I've been going to Son Cubano for years and I agree with previous reviewer that their service (wait staff) and food has really gone down the drain and is way over priced!..My personal suggestion would be to go strictly there for having drinks at the bar and enjoying the amazing live cuban band!!! They clear the tables around midnight to make space for a dance floor and thats when the party really gets started! As far as the drinks..the Mojitos are to Die for! They make them just as good as they do in miami..The sangria is also excellent! Be warned though.the drinks are pricey ($8-14) but well worth every cent! I have a great time every time I visit but come early because you wont find a place at the bar past 9pm! The place is very clean and fresh..beautiful decor!! Great bartenders too! So of your looking for a great place for drinks and some latin dancing then stop by! it'll be worth the trip

Recently visited Son Cubano on a Friday night with my girlfriend. I really enjoyed this place the first time i went (which was like almost two years ago). The second and most recent time (most likely last time) was a big disappointment. It seems the management changed as well as the menu. The food was well below average. I had the Churrasco steak, which was average, hard to chew, and what supposed to be served with yuca, was served with french fries. My first time there, my girl ordered this meal and was so delicious (steak, yuca, salad w/avocado). This time, it was not the same. My girl ordered the chicken dish with the rice. Also, not worth it. The appetizers, we got this chicken dish (chicken lollipops). THis was a joke. . It looked like the chicken was literally eaten off the bone by the time we received it. Not knowing what type of dish this was, we basically got bones with scraps of chicken left over as the appetizer. It's usually the other way around, chicken on bone, then scraps left over. What a joke!!! The only thing worth mentioning was the mojitios. They were pretty good but thats all I can say about that. The price was a joke as well. I paid $120.00 for basically sitting in there. Your much better off, food wise and price wise at Havana Central in Times Square.

The evening began with our meeting a less than cordial waiter. The wait staff in general seemed determine to remove our plates even before we were finished with our meal.

I ordered Mojitos ( a typical Cuban drink ) that tasted like Limeaid with too many mint leaves. I ordered appetizers that were tiny and certainly no where near their description on the menu. I ordered a "paella" listed at $30.00 that was delivered to my table in under 10 minutes. Normally this dish takes anywhere from 30 - 40 minutes to prepare. The seaford was steamed and tossed on top of a bowl of rice with saffron. The water from the seaford rendered this dish soupy and inconsistent with a traditional paella.

At the conclusion of our rushed experience, I was confronted by an individual in a suit who wanted to know why I didn't not leave more than $ 20.00 tip. I informed him that both the level of service and the food left a lot to be desired.

Tried to have a birthday party there. The music was really great but it was too crowded to actually enjoy it. The bartenders were very nice and really attentive but the bouncers and door guys were obnoxious even by ny standards. We got there early to avoid the line but the bouncers kept bothering everyone to move away from the front of the bar cause it was too crowded. Doesn't make any sense since there was nowhere to move! Some of my friends who got there a little later had to deal with the most ridiculous door guy. The place is definitely NOT worth the trouble especially if your coming with a large party. If your going to go, have dinner there early with just a couple friends, enjoy the music and then leave before it gets crowded!!!

Pros: good music

Cons: horrible bouncers, door guys and service!

.

A couple of years ago the doorman would not let u in with sneaker, the place was trendy and upscale, now it became a place to hook up and with a tip for the bouncer lets you in without ID and wearing sneakers, Horrible...... It is abit pricey but worth the drinks, I only went after midnight that it is when they take out the tables and becomes a dance club, the music is excellent (pop, mix of english and spanish, regeeton, salsa, merenge) bouncers obnoxious but be at the door around 11:30-12:00 and you will have no problem of getting in because it gets packed after that.

Pros: music, bathrooms (upstairs & downstairs), no cover charge

Cons: too expensive on drinks, rude bouncers, crowded

Take your group of friends somewhere else!
A group of 11 of us came mid-week for the $50 prix fixe menu which included a set of 5 different tapas and a choice of one entree. They were so cheap with the food, giving us only 2 sets of tapas (and the tapas were so small) for 11 of us! We asked for more (since they said on the phone when we made the reservations that "there would be enough food to feed the group" and the menu said there would be a set of 5 tapas for 3-4ppl). They gave us 3 more small plates - how generous. Five of us had the cod and it was dry and chewy. The bill came to about $850-ish and 93 cents which included the 20% gratuity. With a large group, we mistakenly missed out on the 93 cents and the waiter had the nerve to run out after we left to ask for 93 cents! The service wasn't the greatest to even deserve the $140 tip, so coming out to chase after 93 cents was ridiculous. None of us will ever go there again.

Pros: None

Cons: Poor value, horrible prix fixe menu

The bouncers were unprofessional and rude. I waited to get in there for over an hour. I will never go back to that place, nor will I recommend it to my friends or collegues. No wonder these business come and go like cheap shoes. They totally ignored about 100 people waitng to get in while all their (the bouncers) friends just walked in as they came. I thought the object was to provide a service and make money, not to stroke the ego of a security guy dressed in a cheap suit black suit. Never again!!! The owners of Son Cubana need to speak some prospective into those muscle bound clams.

Best Latin spot or "Latin Themed" spot in NY. Classy latinos, classy people, even that big security guard at the door is friendly. Nothing but the best experiences here.

I went here a few weeks ago with a large group of people. We ordered the pre fix, which was unlimited sangria and appetizers. This was the biggest rip off ever! The sangria was very watered down and the appetizers were sub par at best. At $90 a person, it was not worth it. Even though the atmosphere was very cool, the food was not. I highly recommend against the pre fix. There are far better options for large group dining in the city.

The food is good. Is it great? No. Is it worth the price. Nah. But the atmosphere, live music, great-looking bartenders and overall vibe (and locale) make it a perfect date spot or drink-and-greet venue. You're guaranteed to look much hotter at this bar than some dive, so dress up and go in for some apps and sangria. No need to do dinner, use the extra money to check out one of the great bars in the Meatpacking afterwards.

Pros: Nice atmosphere, cute staff, bustling NY Vibe

Cons: Very expensive, food is not that great

The food was good, granted. But the waiter was useless. The hostesses were awkward at best. And the bus boys were annoying as could be. Every time we moved they were lurking looking for an opportunity to take something away and essentially make us feel rushed.

Again, good food isn't nearly enough in a neighborhood with hundreds of other offerings. Probably won't be going back.
