I hadn't gone back for 3 years, but I thought I'd try this place again because I love Indian food. Same rude servers, oily meat dishes and careless appetizers. Whoever is putting the food together in the kitchen doesn't care and it shows in the food.

Service was THE worst restaurant service I have ever had in my life. Water was not refilled once, they actually just dropped the food on the other end of the table and didn't check on us until we flagged down the waiter for our check. Our pakoras were fried burnt batter. They were supposed to have vegetables inside. They were rock hard, empty and we had to ask for sauce twice for they got cold and harder. There were 8 on the plate for $5 and we couldn't finish one - they were that bad. Total waste of money.

My friend had extremely salty grilled fish and lamb. Again, he couldn't eat it. I had chana saag and it was forgettable.

Really, it is the service here that is so offensive. When we asked for to-go containers the server rolled his eyes and acted like he was doing us a favor by letting us take the food we paid for home. Who wants to feel like they're in combat when they go out for dinner? Especially at such an over-priced place.

I used to recommend this place for take out, but it's not worth it. NYC has so many Indian places that are far superior and do crazy things like smile and say thank you and cook with pride - I won't ever go back to Kinara.

This place was very bad. I went here on a Thursday night with my girlfriend. We walked to the front and looked inside and no one was there. It was like 9.30pm or so. We walked in, looked around, and there were no patrons there. There were just 5 dudes standing around near the back register just looking at us. My gf asked them if they were open and they said yes, so we sat down. We got a weird vibe from the place right from the start. The bathroom was pretty disgusting on a side note.

So we ordered our food, and I asked for extra mint sauce for our samosas, and the waiter said no. We asked for extra hot sauce, and the waiter said no. I was drinking my kingfisher beer, set it down, and then when the waiter was cleaning up, he snatched up my beer, which I didn't finish. During the whole time we were eating, no one else came in. We were in there alone the whole time. My gf and I then asked if we could split the bill on our credit cards, and the waiter threw his arms up and made a stink about it, like it was a big inconvenience for him. Then as we left, the waiter quickly beelined to our table to check our tip and bill, I think to see how much we left or something. It was a pretty miserable experience.

The dishes were overpriced, the service was horrible, and the ambiance was horrible too. I would stay away from this place.

My wife and I decided to try Kinara's. Right off the bat,
I noice the waiter's attitude as soon as I entered. He comes off as though he doesn't want to be there.
If that's the case then get out of Dodge, and allow someone that treats people with warm hospitality to take your place.I asked this rude waiter about the soup of the day.He said he had chicken and Lentil.I ordered Lentil. He then brought me a soup that was neither Chicken or Lentil.I then asked hm for the Lentil soup, and he said that it was Chicken/Lentil soup. By the way the soup had no Chicken or Lentil in it. To top things off there was a lemon wedge emersed in the soup, so of course the soup was bitter. I tasted it, then put it off to the side. The shrimp Curry was tasty, but my mind is made up. We will never patronize Kinara again. I usually tip well when the service is good, even if the food isn't.. And in this case he not only lost a good tip but also a customer.

Absolutely love the 1/2 price lunch specials (eat in only). What a great deal for the amount of food you get, and quite tasty too. A couple of our favorite vegetarian dishes are aloo dum and saag panir. Our girls also really love tikka masala.

They used to be really good. In recent months I have noticed their food declining. I ordered the Goan Shrimp curry. There was an inch of oil on top, the shrimps were over cooked and rubbery and there was not taste. Its the last time I order from them. Shame : (

I'm kind of picky about my Indian food - I had a great place where I lived growing up, but since moving to NYC, it's been difficult to find reliably good, inexpensively priced, Indian food. Until I tried Kinara. I really love the food here, though I like it more for delivery than eat-in. (Service is not the best when I've eaten in the restaurant). But the food is terrific! Some favorite dishes: Chicken lentil soup, kachoris, matter panir, palak panir, bhartha, and the okra (can't remember the Indian name).

The chana masala was way too salty, the naan rubbery, and the chicken tikka masala tasted like tomato sauce. The samosas were the best part, but I wouldn't exactly describe them as good. Delivery was prompt but I will not be eating here again. Overall, it was one of the worst meals Ive had in a long time.

I am a poor student so when I ate at the restaurant 1/2 price before 4 I was ecstatic, but was put off by the service. I let it go because I figured that it was just a bad day and decided to come back. I came back a few times and realized that there are only 2 waiters and one is extremely surly. Avoid if your waiter is the taller one with a permanent bad attitude. I can take indifference (the other waiter) but this guy is just offensive especially during the special. Make sure you arrive early because I have seen him deny people if they show up at 3:30. Aside from that during the summer months it gets really hot inside and there were a lot of flies hanging around. I felt like I was in a 3rd world country. I have been there mult. times but have been avoiding the place for longer and longer periods of time because of the negative atmosphere. But I would recommend if service doesn't matter to you at all.

Pros: Good food, Great deal on lunch

Cons: Bad service, makes you feel like a criminal for eating lunch special.

Only eat there if you're not used to real Indian food. The food was OK, but it was nothing like real Indian food. If you are Indian--avoid it.

The combo and lunch deals are the best - far better than ordering from a greasier restaurant and just feeling gross afterwards. Kinara's food is delicious, and not too heavy. The amount they give you should satisfy for 2 meals, so it's definitely worth the price (which is low as it is for an Indian restaurant).

Pros: prices, delivery service, combination meals

Been waiting for a good Indian restaurant in the Park Slope area for years, and finally found it. Very fresh ingredients, high quality spices, and a very, very good deal. Vindaloo chicken and fish are delicious, as are the vegetarian dishes (spinach saag is my favorite). Very friendly staff, who will be more than happy to make your meals extra-spicy, as they made mine. Great naan bread. At last, wonderful Indian! Easily just as good as the "best" Indian in Manhattan.

after being consistently disappointed by the choices of Indian food in brooklyn, i am so glad to have found this place. i've ordered take out only, and when i picked it up i found the dine-in area to be a bit too cold and dreary. but the food was good. the best part is the 13 dollar combo that includes rice, naan, appetizer and entree, a very good value and a huge amount of food. two can easily eat from ordering one combo. another attractive feature is that all the vegetarian dishes can be ordered as sides for a lower price, so if you want some veggies with your dinner it won't drive up the bill as if you had ordered a whole extra entree, which is usually what happens at Indian places. The chicken tikka masala was good, not overly seasoned. the samosas were huge and crispy (though they have a little too much potato) and the saag panir was excellent as well. food was fresh and not too heavy or greasy.

I've never been inside, but order takeout/delivery from Kinara at least once a week, and have never had a negative experience.

Kinara has the fastest delivery times of any restaurant in Park Slope, and a great, cheap takeout/delivery menu: $13.00 (incl. tax) for your choice of one appetizer and one entree, plus naan, chutneys and raita. The chicken tikka masala is consistently good, and a bit less sweet than in many other places (which i like). Samosas are great, and come topped with chickpeas and cilantro/tamarind chutneys; only problem with this is the inevitable sogginess that comes when you don't eat them immediately. The sweet and sour eggplant is okay - basically battered and fried eggplant slices topped with tamarind chutney. Seeth kebab appetizer (minced lamb) is extra tasty. Most other dishes are just what you would expect, taste fresh and are well-prepared. Staff - delivery and on the phone - are always polite and efficient. You absolutely can't beat it for the price and convenience.

though you could also eat in, we've have only ordered take out from them and enjoy the saag paneer and dum almoo. Samosas are mediocre, though.
